While every Emmy win is noteworthy, several this year were downright historical.
Take Atlanta auteur Donald Glover, who early in Sunday night’s ceremony became the first black person to win an Emmy for directing for a comedy. Ever. And this was the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony. (Later in the night, Glover claimed a second prize, for lead comedy actor.)
“I’m glad I was able to make history, but that’s not what I was trying to do. I’m trying to make the best product,” Glover said backstage after winning. “I believe the people deserve quality, and when they taste it,...

The Fast and Furious movies aren't the only ones with great car chases. Join us as we take a look at the 50 best car chase scenes in film. This week, we’re looking at #50 through 26.
Like peanut butter and jelly, car chases and movies are two things that just go together perfectly. A chase is inherently interesting to watch - someone is trying their best to get away by any means possible, while the other party is trying to stop them from doing so. The danger involved, the threat of violence, and even the thrill of the hunt are all part of why we often can’t look away. A car chase is the next level of chase. They are fast - an embodiment of man and machine together. They are also dangerous - the stakes are incredibly high, and not just for the people involved in the chase.

1. Doctor Strange Has Lots Of “Magic Hero” Predecessors Let’s go back over a 100 years, when magicians where a popular part of live entertainment. “This is not a game.” — Barack Obama, March 6, 2012
“They weren’t dreams, they were codeinic jogs of the memory, little twitters of the past, good and bad, adult pain and laughter, sophomoric actions and reactions, a life of too many faults and failures and an overabundance of rabbit-foot luck. From my insane kaleidoscopic walk on earth, I end up hand in hand with Mommy. Let some Chaldean of the couch explain that.
We—by we I mean the fliers—celebrated the false alarm. We all got loaded, had a fight with the navy, made a shambles of the Coronado bar, and twelve of us goose-stepped off the long pier that used to extend out from the beach of the hotel. It was at night, there was a strong wind, and the waves very very high. We had on our uniforms, complete with the officer’s high boots. It was great fun.

After a few non-formulaic weeks, Alphas went back to the Alpha of the Week in “A Short Time in Paradise.” Garret Dillahunt (Raising Hope, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) guest-starred as Jonas, an alpha who has an ability to overcome people under a hypnotic spell, where they feel connected to each other and the rest of the world. Jonas believes he’s been blessed back in 1980 when he “illuminated” his reverend father, who shortly after illuminated his congregation in flames. In the present day, news of Cameron’s (Warren Christie) ex-wife and son moving to Nevada sent him back to his Alcoholics Anonymous meetings where he meets a grown-up Jonas, who takes the entire group under his control. Jonas doesn’t believe what he is doing is bad, he believes he is blessing people with his ability, to give them a taste of the “truth” and saving them from the darkness of the world.

One of the problems Heroes had when it was airing was how it approached its villains. They all seemed to be cut from the same cloth: power hungry mad men. Whether it was Sylar, Adam, or Samuel, it all came down to raising themselves above regular folk. Don’t worry; this is still a review of the new Alphas episode, just bear with me. Around Heroes’ final season, I was beginning to wish the series had played around with a different kind of bad guy, and one idea I had was similar to the Freak of the Week in Alphas’ “A Short Time in Paradise.”
My idea was to have someone discover they have an ability, but misjudge it as a gift from God. They would use their ability to attract followers, and soon you’d have a dangerous cult on your hands. The whole idea revolved around this man...

I figured Burt Chance ran something more than just a landscaping business, didn't you?
On "A Short Time in Paradise, the spotlight once again shined on Dr. Rosen, who has the unenviable job of protecting his team from all sides, whether that include the government or other Alphas, while also serving as a judge and jury to them.
It all came to a head this week.
Rosen could no longer stand behind logic and persuasion to get his point across. His back was against a wall with Jonas, who wasn’t listening to logic and preferred to burn thousands of innocent people he brainwashed to death. So Rosen had no choice: he pulled the trigger and killed Jonas.
It was a pivotal moment for the doctor and I have to commend David Strathairn for showing the weight and remorse Rosen felt in that scene. It was palpable. So where does Rosen go from here?...

Through the years, early May has evolved into the start of the summer movie season, even though the actual summer doesn't begin for another month and a half. This year is no exception with the release of Iron Man 2, which follows in the footsteps of the first Iron Man, Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3 among past early May/summer kick-offs. Five Years Ago - 2005 While early May had seen huge numbers before 2005, this weekend was anemic as far as summer starts go. Director Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven was the would-be event picture, being a historical epic positioned to repeat Scott's Gladiator success in 2000. But its Medieval subject matter was less appealing and its marketing less focused than Gladiator, leading to a relatively modest $19.6 million debut at 3,216 theaters. Additionally, few cared enough to see Paris Hilton get slaughtered in House of Wax, the weekend's other major release that opened to $12.1 million at 3,111 sites.

Straight up this has absolutely nothing to do with black cinema, but it’s fantastic example of action cinema. I came across this car chase sequence from a long ago completely forgotten 1990 comedy Short Time. All I can say is Wow! Yet another example of what they used to do backnot that long ago and now with all their so-called advance technology just can’t seem to do today. If they tried to it would be mostly CGI crapola and suck big time. So just watch it and have fun...
