On the night of April 13, after the apparent leak of his diss track “Push Ups (Drop & Give Me Fifty),” Drake posted a screenshot from the movie Kill Bill on his Instagram Story. It was the film’s iconic fight scene, during which Uma Thurman’s character takes on a room full of ninja assassins only to emerge victorious. The metaphor couldn’t be more applicable to Drake’s current situation, as he fends off what many are describing as “Rap’s Avengers,” out for blood since the release of Future...

Many people would claim that Frank Darabont has made the best Stephen King adaptations ever put on film, but did you know that over a decade before making The Shawshank Redemption, it would be Stephen King himself who helped Frank Darabont become a filmmaker? Frank would use one of Stephen King’s infamous “Dollar Babies” where King would allow aspiring filmmakers to license one of his short stories for just $1. Darabont would adapt King’s short The Woman in the Room which would be short-listed for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short film in 1983. Despite not getting the nomination, and not even particularly liking the short, King was a fan and for $5,000, granted Darabont the rights to adapt another of his short stories: Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.
Of course, Darabont wasn’t quite ready to tackle something as massive as that story just yet, so he made...

The horror genre thrives upon cautionary tales where arrogant individuals believe that they can outsmart some supernatural force for their own gain. It’s for this reason that the greed-quenching Djinn and parables where people learn to be careful what they wish for, usually in the most morbid ways possible, are popular horror tropes. Djinn are a fascinating concept, but they’ve struggled to truly make their mark in cinema between largely-forgettable films like Jinn, The Djinn, Wish Upon, and even George Miller’s Three Thousand Years of Longing. But Djinn stories can still be fun and effective in the right context. And Robert Kurtzman’s Wishmaster is still the premier djinn horror film over 25 years later.
Wishmaster is a movie that understands the unabashed joys of a big, dumb plot where there’s a giant magical gemstone that’s the key to the Djinn’s powers because why the hell not?...

The year was 2001, in the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11, many studios struggled to find the proper way to market and release their films while still being sensitive to what had just happened. Many films were moved off their original release dates to give the studios, and audiences, more time to figure out the proper way forward. One film, however, was deemed a slam dunk: a feel good story about a man who loses his memory and is taken in by the people of a small town when they assume him to be a long lost son and World War II hero, set against the backdrop of the Hollywood Communist witch hunt of the 1950’s from a respected Oscar nominated filmmaker and starring a lead actor who was in the midst of a dramatic left turn in his career with back to back Golden Globe wins for Best Actor.

As the beginning of his IMDb bio states, “Every horror film buff will recognize the name Jacques Haitkin.” Haitkin was the cinematographer on one of the most popular horror movies ever made, the 1984 Wes Craven classic A Nightmare on Elm Street (watch it Here). And while Craven didn’t return to the helm for A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge, Haitkin did return to be the cinematographer on that sequel. Sadly, we have to share the news today that Jacques Haitkin is no longer with us. This news was broken on the Facebook account of filmmaker Tony Randel, who is best known for directing Hellbound: Hellraiser II and worked with Haitkin on Galaxy of Terror, Ticks, Fist of the North Star, Rattled, One Good Turn, and Assignment Berlin.
Randel posted, “I knew Jacques Haitkin practically my entire career. We met on a Roger Corman horror/sci-fi epic – Galaxy of Terror.

Ghost Town takes place in a boomtown gone bust and involves prostitutes. But that’s where the similarities end, rather than a drama this is a horror film about what seems to be a rather literal ghost town.
Solomon is a drifter in dire straights. His horse has died, he’s out of money and his gun has gone missing. Luckily for him, there’s a town visible in the distance, and a job working for Hagan the owner of the local saloon and whorehouse. He’s not five minutes into the job when one of the customers is shot dead while they’re talking to him.
As if that and having an “insufferable prick”, as one of the girls calls him, for a boss wasn’t...

Where to start with The 100 Candles Game? How about the fact this is actually yet another one of those direct to DVD anthologies made up of numerous unconnected shorts which are contained within a wraparound story filmed specifically for this release – think Zombieworld, Galaxy of Horrors, Battle in Space or A Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio. And its the latter anthology that is most connected to 100 Candles, as both films come from producer Nicolás Onetti; with A Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio‘s writer Guillermo Lockhart also directing here – namely the wraparound segment of the film.

In his 2014 memoir “Even This I Get to Experience,” TV legend Norman Lear writes about the busiest period of his life as a time of “joyful stress.”
The 1970s were the pinnacle of Lear’s success as an uber producer, and at one point he simultaneously had eight shows on the air — including such landmark sitcoms as “All in the Family,” “One Day at a Time,” “Sanford and Son,” “Good Times,” “Maude,” “The Jeffersons” and “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.”
“Even doing your best work and enjoying the results of that, there is a reasonable amount to a great amount of stress,” Lear tells Variety. “And if one can learn to accept that joyfully, one can be stressed and understand that he or she is having a good time also. And so, I’ve enjoyed an awful lot of that through my career.”

One of television’s most groundbreaking series hit the airwaves 50 years ago this month, and the small screen hasn’t been the same since. Emmy-winning “All in the Family” is one of the first programs to address sensitive topics previously considered unsuitable for television, one of the first sitcoms to effortlessly blend humor with drama, and one of the most influential programs of all time, impacting not only the industry but pop culture as well.
On January 12, 1971, Norman Lear‘s version of the British sitcom “Till Death Do Us Part” debuted on American television. Week after week, patriarch Archie Bunker (Carroll O’Connor), his wife Edith (Jean Stapleton), daughter Gloria (Sally Struthers) and son-in-law Mike Stivic (Rob Reiner) would argue with each other, as well as a variety of family members and neighbors, over pretty much every hot issue of the day – racism, homosexuality, gun rights, rape, women’s liberation, war,...

Grammy Award-winning reggae musician Buju Banton appeared on The Daily Show to perform an anthem of strength and resilience, “Buried Alive,” from his album Upside Down 2020. The passionate performance from Banton and his band took place in an isolated studio.
“I was buried alive but I’m still breathing,” Banton sings. “I don’t know what tomorrow may bring but I got a feeling.”
It’s an appropriate sentiment during the Covid-19 crisis, and during his interview with Trevor Noah, Banton stressed the importance and integrity of socially conscious lyrics in reggae.

The same is the case for “Family Man,” a new Amazon Original series which, according to the streaming giant, tells the story of a middle-class man who works for a special cell of the National Investigation Agency.
Other Prime Originals include the first seasons of “El Corazón de Sergio Ramos,” about the Spanish soccer player, and the animated series “Undone.” “Rango,” “Legally Blonde” and “Saturday Night Fever” are among some of the already released movies that will now be available on Prime.

Aziz Ansari will return to Netflix on July 9th with his latest stand-up special, Right Now. Filmmaker Spike Jonze (Her, Being John Malkovich) directed the project, which follows the comedian’s two previous Netflix specials, 2015’s Live at Madison Square Garden and 2013’s Buried Alive.
Ansari previewed Right Now with a brief teaser clip that shows him prepping for the show backstage, applying deodorant and walking out to a standing ovation — all while wearing a T-shirt featuring the cover of Metallica’s 1984 LP, Ride the Lightning.

Aziz Ansari is coming back to TV screens. And soon.
In a surprise announcement, Netflix revealed on Monday that the latest stand-up special from the “Master of None” co-creator will be dropping Tuesday, July 9. “Aziz Ansari Right Now,” his fifth comedy special, was filmed as part of the Brooklyn performances of his ongoing international tour, “Road to Nowhere.”
It’s Ansari’s first project available to the public since the release of “Master of None” Season 2. Shortly after the awards circuit tour ended in early 2018, a controversial article detailing sexual misconduct put the show and Ansari’s career on hiatus. According to reports from those same Brooklyn shows back in May, Ansari addresses those allegations as part of his hour-long set. Earlier shows in the tour, even when not referring to the incident directly, did seem to showcase a contrite Ansari, even when couched in a comedy context.

Frank Darabont is a legend in the world of film and one of the most underrated writer/directors of our generation. But for the last few years he’s been moving away from film towards the world of television. Everyone in Hollywood considers television a step back for such an established writer/director, but is that the right way to think?
His best known film The Shawshank Redemption was snubbed at the oscars in 1995 and barely even made its money at the box office (and only after being re-released the following year). Darabont has always had a topsy turvy relationship with Hollywood throughout his life, but did you know that before he even got a job in the film world he had already gained the rights to adapt a work of Stephen King?

Buried Alive
Stars: Tim Matheson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, William Atherton, Hoyt Axton | Written by David A. Davies, Mark Patrick Carducci | Directed by Frank Darabont
When Buried Alive arrived for me to review I thought I remembered this one it’s the Edgar Allen Poe story right? The short answer is no. it may use the name of a Poe story and it may use his common themes but in the end this is not the Buried Alive that he wrote.
Clint Goodman is a normal man, he built his house for his wife and he thinks they are happy and their life is perfect. The only problem is Joanna his wife is having an affair with their doctor. The doctor and the wife are greedy and decide they need to get rid of Clint, and how will they do this? Poison him and give him a cheap funeral so they...

Dread Central is reporting that the 1990 television movie from Frank Darabont, Buried Alive, is headed to UK audiences on October 17, 2011. Check out the Press Release below. I love how the cover art looks like the Ryan Reynolds flick – Buried.
From Frank Darabont, acclaimed director of The Shawshank Redemption, The Mist and The Green Mile, comes the terrifyingly claustrophobic Buried Alive. Starring Tim Matheson (Animal House) as a husband who is buried alive by his cheating wife Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Machinist), this nail biting horror comes to DVD for the first time ever on 17 October 2011.
Hard-working construction company owner Clint is married to Joanna, but little does he know she’s having an affair with a doctor and the pair are plotting to kill him to get a hefty insurance payout. One night Joanne injects Clint with poison and, with the help of her lover, sets about burying him in a shallow grave.

Does the name Frank Darabont sound familiar? It should! For those of you living under a rock, this is who gave us The Mist and the highly acclaimed TV series "The Walking Dead". Now, for the first time ever, UK audiences can catch a look at his 1990 directorial debut, Buried Alive, when it premieres on DVD October 17th courtesy of Second Sight.

Given man's unwavering fascination with woman, it's no surprise that the female star acts as the anchor to a dominant portion of horror pictures. I mean really, who wants to see a bare chested man tearin ass through the woods screaming at the top of his lungs while a bladed assailant nips at his heels? I don't - I know that much, although I'm certain there are plenty of men who would disagree (and that's okay with me, to each his own!). The simple fact remains however, women bring a unique appeal and certain sensual atmosphere to film that no man ever could. And it's not all about gratuitous T&A.
There's a comforting quality in the hands of the heroine; a fascinating maternal strength that, as a man I cannot genuinely relate to. I can however admire, and in many cases it's nearly impossible to not admire the lone...
