Powerful roles and memorable lines have been the hallmark of Clint Eastwood’s career. Cops, cowboys drifters, soldiers and, generally bad ass men’s men … he’s played them all.
The lines that stick with you? Dirty Harry: “You’ve got to ask yourself a question: ‘Do you feel lucky?’ Well, do ya, punk.” Josey Wales: “When I get to likin’ someone, they ain’t around long.” Bill Munny in Unforgiven: “It’s a hell of a thing, killin’ a man. Take away all he’s got, and all he’s ever gonna have.” And perhaps the most quoted of all, Harry Callahan in Sudden Impact: “Go ahead, make my day.”
Eastwood has a cop for so long he should be collecting a pension. He joined the force with Dirty Harry in 1971 and his last movie as a cop was A Perfect World in (1993). He made five...

Aquaman 1 vs Aquaman 2 Box Office (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom was expected to perform poorly at the worldwide box office. But it managed to bring in decent numbers and break even. The China collections have now concluded, and below is a detailed comparison of the closing figures with the original film starring Amber Heard and Jason Momoa in the lead.
Aquaman 2 was released in China on December 20, 2023. The superhero film left behind The Marvels and The Batman in advance booking sales. It was largely dependent on spot bookings, and despite leaving behind films like Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania and Oppenheimer, analysts were worried that the film might wipe out ahead of New Year’s due to a big local release.

This post contains spoilers for the "Dirty Harry" films.
Don Siegel's "Dirty Harry" changed cop movies forever upon its release in 1971. Capitalizing on the "law and order" craze stoked by President Richard Nixon, which was a reaction to the perceived anarchy of the various protest movements of the 1960s, Clint Eastwood's Miranda rights-flouting Harry Callahan fed conservative moviegoers a big, juicy slab of red meat. It also allowed the actor to flourish in a genre outside of Westerns, thus expanding his appeal and turning him into one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood.
"Dirty Harry" ends with Callahan, having caught and killed (in self-defense) a vicious serial killer, hurling his badge into a quarry. Throughout the movie, his hard-driving, occasionally extrajudicial methods, which could've resulted in a swift arrest and saved multiple lives, are decried by his superiors. It appears the inspector has had enough. Audiences, however,...

Actor Clint Eastwood has spoken some of the most unforgettable lines in cinema since his Dirty Harry days. But there was one catchphrase that Eastwood began to sour on overtime.
Clint Eastwood had a hunch about ‘Dirty Harry’ Clint Eastwood | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Dirty Harry would become one of the films that defined Clint Eastwood’s career. But the role as the renegade tough cop originally wasn’t his in the beginning. Many celebrities were considered for the role before Eastwood, including legendary singer Frank Sinatra.
“They tried Frank Sinatra and Robert Mitchum and Steve McQueen. Then they finally ended up with Frank Sinatra. I was in postproduction [on Play Misty for Me], and they called up and asked, ‘Are you still interested in Dirty Harry? I said, ‘What happened to Frank Sinatra?’ And they said, ‘Frank Sinatra’s got some problem with his hand and he can’t hold a gun,...

Actors Clint Eastwood and Liam Neeson are not only known for their contributions to cinema, but also for their heights. The two once stood well over 6 feet, but Neeson’s towering figure was shortened for the sake of a film.

Neeson and Eastwood once teamed up in the 1988 film The Dead pool. The movie was the last feature in Eastwood’s iconic Dirty Harry series. Neeson played a horror director in the movie, which pitted Eastwood’s Harry Callahan tracking down a serial killer that targeted celebrities.
The character Neeson played was different than the action heroes audiences might be accustomed to seeing him as in Neeson’s movies. The director he portrays in the movie, whose name is Peter Swan, was instead a timid person by nature. He spent his time shouting at employees on set,...

Clint Eastwood’s “Dirty Harry” series of films are some of the most iconic American action movies ever made. Spanning two decades and five films, the “Dirty Harry” franchise looks at America’s changing attitude toward law enforcement and justice.
The first film, “Dirty Harry,” was released in 1971 and was an instant classic, spawning four sequels over the next two decades. While each film is excellent in its own right, there is a clear progression in how America is depicted, from a place of hope and optimism in the first film to a much more cynical and jaded outlook by the fifth film.
The story of all the movies revolves around a San Francisco Police Department inspector, “Dirty” Harry Callahan, played by Clint Eastwood. If you are a fan of action-packed cinema, you should watch “Dirty Harry” movies.

While British celebrities have often parted with their money to fund their favourite football club, they at least have a passing knowledge of the off-side rule, but Reynolds is unusual in being a Canadian A-lister to do the same, having parted with £2million (2.36m) to buy British club Wrexham, with fellow actor Rob McElhenney.
Reynolds told The Times newspaper that, like a real-life Ted Lasso, he had to win over doubtful local fans, and the whole story is told in Welcome to Wrexham, a six-part documentary series about to debut on FX in the U.S. and Disney+ in the UK.
The film follows the Hollywood pair transforming the club’s stadium and securing TikTok as kit sponsor – plus the universal tale of every football fan’s emotional rollercoaster.

Clint Eastwood, 91, opens “Cry Macho” tomorrow in theaters and HBO Max. It’s his 42nd film as a director, and perhaps his last. Reviewing his career reveals a dual nature about his role in film history that is surprising, but also explains his success.
Eastwood has been both one of the most successful and acclaimed directors and actors over the last half century. His commercial peak came in the 1980s, while his biggest acclaim as a director spanned 1992 (“Unforgiven”) through 2006 (“Letters from Iwo Jima”).
He signed his first contract with Universal in 1954, became a TV star with “Rawhide” in 1959, and landed the role that defined his persona in 1964 with Sergio Leone’s “A Fistful of Dollars.”
With 50 years behind the camera, he doesn’t have the longest-running career as a director; Woody Allen and Martin Scorsese started earlier and Agnes Varda’s filmmaking spanned 65 years. But Eastwood’s 51 years of...

The director’s latest film, in which he stars as a former rodeo star who travels to Mexico to save a friend’s son, is an inert disappointment
Cry Macho, the new 70s-set film from the world’s most prolific nonagenarian director, Clint Eastwood, has endured an almost 50-year journey to the screen, a journey that, after actually watching Cry Macho, is of far more interest than what’s ended up in front of us. After his screenplay was rejected in the 70s, writer N Richard Nash turned it into a novel before then pitching the exact same screenplay, which this time got bought by Fox. Eastwood was offered it in the late 80s but decided to star in The Dead Pool instead, while offering to direct Robert Mitchum in the role. In the 90s, Roy Scheider signed on but production was never completed. Over time, Pierce Brosnan and Burt Lancaster...

In the 90s, Roy Scheider signed on but production was never completed. Over time, Pierce Brosnan and Burt Lancaster...

Every once in a long while, I manage to have an encounter with the film producer Albert S. Ruddy. It’s always—what?
Funny? Fascinating? Enlightening? Unexpected?
I think I’ll go with amazing.
It’s certainly amazing to see Al Ruddy, at the age of 91, credited as a producer of Cry Macho, which is set for release by Warner Bros. and HBO Max on Sept. 17–and not just because the movie is directed by and stars Clint Eastwood, who is also 91. To put things in perspective, Ruddy has been trying to get the picture made since I was an struggling doctoral student of Modern European History, which would be 46 years ago, give or take. Once, the film seems to have started, with Roy Scheider, in Mexico. (That would be somewhere among iterations that involved Burt Lancaster and Pierce Brosnan.) But something happened, and the plug got pulled. By then,...

With his latest film “Cry Macho,” Clint Eastwood treads where many men have tried, but failed, before. The neo-Western is based on a book by N. Richard Nash from 1975, and since then, a handful of Hollywood leading men have tried to tackle the role of a washed-up horse breeder on the road to redemption, from Roy Scheider and Burt Lancaster, to Pierce Brosnan and Arnold Schwarzenegger. At 91, director and star Clint Eastwood is finally taking the reins with his film set to release on September 17 in theaters and simultaneously on HBO Max from Warner Bros. on September 17. Watch the trailer for the film below.
In the drama written for the screen by author Nash (who died in 2000) with contributions from co-writer Nick Schenk (Eastwood films “Gran Turino” and “The Mule”), Eastwood plays a decorated onetime rodeo star who, after losing his wife and child, spirals into alcohol despair. It’s the late 1970s,...

Pairing wine with movies! See the trailers and hear the fascinating commentary for these movies and many more at Trailers From Hell. Crime is a hot topic in the movies, but be careful – you don’t always know who the criminals are.
Clay Pigeon didn’t exactly set 1971 on fire, but if it had it would have been liable for more serious crimes than artistic ones. Plus, in the pairing-wine-with-movies biz, it’s always touch-and-go when dealing with a movie involving substance abuse. The laughs don’t exactly fall out of the balcony.
This movie starred Tom Stern, who also co-directed with Lane Slate. You may know Stern as the one-time husband of Samantha Eggar, or he may be on your radar for being what IMDb calls the “Orson Welles of ‘60s biker movies.” Citizen Knucklehead, anyone?
In Clay Pigeon, he was a Vietnam vet who wanted to kick hard drugs.

The fifth and final film in Eastwood’s “Dirty Harry” series is memorable for early career appearances by Liam Neeson and Jim Carrey. Directed by Buddy Van Horn whose remarkably long and action-packed career as a stunt man (beginning in 1951 with the Byron Haskin western Warpath) was sidetracked by three directorial jobs for Eastwood, including The Dead Pool, Pink Cadillac, and Any Which Way You Can. Versatile cinematographer Jack Green went on to provide the uniquely noirish western look for Eastwood’s Oscar-winning Unforgiven.

It’s been both a year since a new Clint Eastwood movie arrived and a year since we’ve heard what the 90-year-old Hollywood legend may tackle next, which is a rarity in his prolific career. Assumedly taking a bit of a break post-Richard Jewell until productions could prepare for Covid-19 protocols, Eastwood has now announced what he hopes to begin shooting next.
Deadline reports he’s already scouting locations for Cry Macho, a film he’ll direct, star in, and produce for Warner Bros. pending an official green light. A long-gestating project in Hollywood, the script was penned by Nick Schenk along with N. Richard Nash, who wrote the original novel in 1975 and passed away at the age of 87 in 200.

Clint Eastwood is planning to produce, direct and star in the adventure-drama “Cry Macho” for Warner Bros., sources have confirmed to Variety.
Al Ruddy and Jessica Meier are producing, along with Tim Moore and Eastwood at his Warner-based Malpaso production company. The project is based on the 1975 novel by N. Richard Nash, who wrote the script along with Nick Schneck.
The project was unveiled during the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, where the New York Times reported that Arnold Schwarzenegger was attached to star with Ruddy producing, Brad Furman directing and plans to shoot in New Mexico. Eastwood had once before intended to star and direct, but had put it aside in favor of 1988’s “The Dead Pool,” in which he portrayed his signature Harry Callahan character.

Time to play Streaming Roulette. Each month, to survey new streaming titles we freeze frame the films at random places with the scroll bar and whatever comes up first, that's what we share!
What does Netflix offer us for free viewing this month? Let's survey...
Well, personally I think teaming up with a Chinese-American was good for the department's image.
The Dead Pool (1988)
Not to be confused with Deadpool. It's Clint Eastwood in his fifth and final Dirty Harry movie, this time paired with Evan C Kim. This line reading is really weird though out of context. I've never seen this but there are lots of stars before they were big: Jim Carrey six years before superstardom, Patricia Clarkson ten years before her critical breakthrough, and Liam Neeson just as he was breaking out. Weirdly even though this movie was a hit it didn't budge the needle on Eastwood's screen partner Evan C Kim's career.

Just in time for the Halloween movie-going season, Netflix is bringing out the big guns, offering up Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” as one of its marquee titles new to the service next month. Consider it a peace offering of sorts, as the rest of the month isn’t exactly bursting with other horror picks, beyond Mickey Liddell’s “The Haunting of Molly Hartley,” Jeff Wadlow’s “Truth or Dare,” and the decidedly creepy Dirty Harry feature “The Dead Pool.”

Occasionally, an actor will reinvent him/herself and begin a new phase of their careers that will be even more successful than it was before. Here are nine actors who had a cinematic rebirth.
Liam Neeson- Neeson has had a long career, and the early part of it was in dramatic roles. An intense dramatic actor, he apeared in films like The Dead Pool, Dark Man, Schindler’s List, Rob Roy and Les Miserables. His career rebirth came after playing Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars-Episode one: The Phantom Menace. After that, he got more offers for actions parts and recreated himself as an action hero in films like Gangs of NY, Batman Begins, Taken, Clash of the Titans, the A-Team, Unknown, the Grey, Taken 2,...

After what seems like decades of waiting (oh wait: it was actually about 10 years!) the Deadpool movie finally opened in theaters this past weekend to the tune of a record-shattering $135 million at the box office; and it was everything I’d hoped for. It was exactly the Deadpool movie that we needed at this point to get the franchise rolling – a dynamic R film that pulls no punches about who Deadpool is and why he’s not a traditional hero, yet invests us in his unorthodox character and worldview and gets us rooting for him anyway. And as I walked out of the theater, despite any minor critiques I may have, I felt distinctly the warm, zen-like glow of happiness from having just experienced the fulfillment of longtime hopes I’ve cherished for the manifestation of just such a Deadpool film.

You might think you can do a decent Christopher Walken, but really, you can't touch the professionals. Here, from Kevin Spacey to Steve Coogan, are the very finest impersonators in the business (of other people in the business).
1. Kevin Spacey
Actors impersonated: Katharine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, Marlon Brando, Christopher Walken
To know Kevin Spacey is to know his impersonations. Willing to bust out a Brando at the drop of a hat, the former Old Vic head honcho was more than willing to obey James Lipton's commands during his appearance on Inside The Actors Studio.
Ps - there are Kevin Spacey impressions, then there are Kevin Spacey impressions in front of the people he's impersonating. Ladies and gentlemen, Al Pacino and "Al Pacino".
2. Bradley Cooper
Actors impersonated: Robert De Niro, Owen Wilson, Christopher Walken, Christian Bale
Everyone can do a Christopher Walken - even if it's a terrible Christopher Walken...

Clint Eastwood revisited Harry Callahan three more times, usually whenever his career was in the dumps. If Dirty Harry was a cultural phenomenon and Magnum Force a respectable follow-up, the rest are uninspired cash-ins. The main law Harry enforces in these sequels is the Law of Diminishing Returns.
Given Dirty Harry‘s San Francisco setting, something like The Enforcer (1976) was inevitable. After all, San Fran hosted Haight-Ashbury, hippie capital of the world; was a favored site for Black Panther and Sds protests; headquarters of the nascent gay rights movement; victim of Weathermen bombings and the racially-charged Zebra murders. Writers Gail Morgan Hickman and S.W. Schurr based their script, originally titled “Moving Target,” on the Symbionese Liberation Army which kidnapped Patty Hearst. Dean Riesner (who cowrote the original Harry) and Stirling Silliphant (In the Heat of the Night) polished the film.

Do you have a “golden year”, the year where everything seemed to come together? Maybe you got the perfect job and met Ms. or Mr. Right all within just a few months. Well, for Mr. Jim Carrey a good case could be made for 1994. After putting in several years on TV (“The Duck Factory” “In Living Color”) along with sporadic screen roles (from The Dead Pool to Once Bitten), his career went super-nova with the unexpected smash Ace Ventura, Pet Detective in the first few months of that year. In the Summer it was another box office bonanza with The Mask. But the icing on the cake may have been his holiday-time hit Dumb And Dumber. In the ensuing two decades, Jim’s had his highs and lows, even supporting up and coming new comedy flick stars like Steve Carrell in The Incredible Burt Wonderstone last year. He’s also tackled some dramatic roles,...

"Excalibur" was a formative theatrical experience for me. It was one of the first R-rated films I specifically decided I wanted to see in a theater. I'd seen other R-rated films before that, but always at random and because someone else decided I was going to see it. With "Excalibur," I was crazy to see it, and the film landed on me like a ton of bricks. Surreal, violent, beautiful, explicit, and for a mythology nut, seeing how the film dealt with each of the characters, each of the Arthurian archetypes, I was in love. One of the guys who made an impression in the film was a young Liam Neeson, and for the rest of the '80s, he racked up a number of performances where, good film or bad, he made an impression. How could he not? No one else looked like him. Slightly over eight feet tall,...

Teen Wolf took Hall H on Thursday, where stars Tyler Posey, Dylan O’Brien and more dished on what fans can expect from the rest of season 4, and announced Teen Wolf has been picked up for a fifth season.
Teen Wolf To Focus On "Human Problems"
Executive producer Jeff Davis kicked off the excitement, announcing that MTV had picked up Teen Wolf for a 20-episode season 5 – eight episodes longer than season 4. After revealing the big news, Davis spoke about how he sees Teen Wolf evolving in season 4, noting that he wants to move away from the heavy mythology of the show. Davis mentioned Stephen Spielberg’s E.T. as the prime example, saying, “[It goes] back to human problems as oppose to creating another mythology or a creature.”
Perhaps one of the “human problems” will be more literal – this week’s episode of Teen Wolf "I.E.D." found Derek Hale, played by Tyler Hoechlin,...

MTV’s Teen Wolf Season 4 aired its fifth episode last night, leaving us with more questions than answers. The confusion started with a girl running around Beacon Hills High. Not only was it odd for her to be running around at night, but she had blood on her hands — or should I say hand, since she later revealed that one of them had been cut off, which made some sense once Violet showed up with her trusty burning lasso. Unfortunately, it was the end of the road for this new wolf girl when she is able to escape Violet, … Continue reading →
