Variety has broken the news that there’s a new horror film called Murder with the Stars heading our way – and this one’s coming from an unexpected creative team. Actor Jonathan Silverman, who is best known for his work in comedies like Caddyshack II and the Weekend at Bernie’s duology, will be directing the film, which is being produced by Jeff Franklin, the creator of the TV show Full House and its follow-up Fuller House!
Comedian Craig Shoemaker has written the screenplay… so, while the project isn’t being referred to as a horror comedy at this time, we can probably expect to see a good amount of comedy in the finished product. Shoemaker has previously written episodes of Just the Ten of Us and Fuller House, as well as the films The Lovemaster and Totally Baked.

Seasons three through six of Friends had some of Chandler Bing’s funniest and most character-defining moments. There he is handcuffed, without pants, to a filing cabinet; remaining in “time out” in a box for nearly a full episode; hooking up with—and later marrying—Monica…We all remember them fondly. The one who doesn’t? Matthew Perry, who says these seasons were a blur due to his problems with substance abuse.

Director Matt Shakman has, in his decades-long directing career, amassed quite the pop culture imprimatur. He began as a child actor, having appeared as a regular on the 1988 "Growing Pains" spin-off, "Just the Ten of Us." As a kid, he had guest spots on multiple ultra-popular shows, including "Diff'rent Strokes," "Night Court," and "The Facts of Life." He retired from acting to attend college, afterward beginning a career in TV directing. Throughout the '00s, he helmed multiple single episodes of just about every popular show on TV, from "Judging Amy" and "Boston Legal" to "Six Feet Under." He directed five episodes of "Psych" and five episodes of "House" before landing the plum gig of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" in 2007. He was behind 43 episodes of that show.
Shakman kept working on popular shows throughout the 2010s, and listing his credits here would take far too long. Needless to say,...

George Spiro Dibie, a television cinematographer whose credits across a 48-year career ranged from “Barney Miller” to “Night Court” to “Sister, Sister,” died on Tuesday. He was 90 years old.
Dibie’s death was confirmed through a statement from the International Cinematographers Guild. Dibie served as president of Local 659 and then national president of Local 600 post-merger, with his tenure as a union leader lasting from 1984 to 2004.
“Dibie was an inimitable force within our local, our craft, the film community and the labor movement,” reads the statement by John Lindley, current president of the Icg. “In all, Dibie served as a union leader for 20 years… but the numbers fail to accurately tally the thousands of lives he touched both at his work on sets and through his leadership of Local 600. Even newer members who may never have met him continue to reap the benefits of his dedication to garnering respect for our craft and our union.

There are few directors better qualified to helm every episode of WandaVision than Matt Shakman. As a kid in the Eighties, he was a working sitcom actor, appearing in multicam hits of the day like The Facts of Life, Webster, and three seasons as a regular on the Growing Pains spin-off Just the Ten of Us. As an adult director, he’s worked on psychologically intricate dramas like Mad Men and Six Feet Under, epic action like Game of Thrones, and self-aware single-cam comedies like You’re the Worst and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

After a year away due to the pandemic, Marvel Studios is finally kicking off Phase 4 of its ongoing, expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe with…a sitcom.
WandaVision, which premieres Friday (Jan. 15) on Disney+, stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany as the supernaturally powerful Wanda Maximoff and the equally enhanced synthezoid Vision, with the newly married couple navigating life in suburban Westview, a black and white setting right out of classic half-hour comedies like The Dick van Dyke Show or Bewitched, complete with live audience.
But since Vision was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Wanda was not just traumatized by his death but dusted herself by Thanos, we have to wonder: how is Vision alive, why are they here, and what is behind this clearly unreal scenario?

Boy howdy, there sure are a lot of Amityville flicks, aren’t there? I don’t know what kind of sadistic contest they’re in with the Witchcraft series, but I’m assuming regardless of the outcome, we the viewer loses. To each their own (I’ve never even seen the Witchcraft films), but I think it’s safe to say at this point in time that the word “Amityville” has lost all meaning far beyond its original IP. But there was a time, long ago when I had more hair and less belly, that the original Amityville series was an ongoing concern.

"Wow, you got a mouth on you." -Tuco Our second "Better Call Saul" installment is really two episodes in one: a long resolution of the Tuco fiasco, followed by Jimmy trying to get his act together to avoid ever being in a situation like that again. The former suggests a "Breaking Bad" rehash filtered through the personality of the new main character, while, the latter suggests... something else. And given that the episode ends with Jimmy being approached by Tuco's pal Nacho, it's not clear yet which version of the show will be triumphant. What is clear even at this early stage, though, is how entertaining it is to watch Jimmy try to talk himself out of trouble again and again. 2. "Growing Pains" -- What a great duet. Do you recognize the woman? It's Jennifer Warnes, of "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" fame.
3. "Perfect Strangers" -- This soaring number makes you feel like you can conquer the world right? Or at least leave your home in Mypos for the big city in America.
4. "Cheers" -- This is like comfort food in song form. They just don't make TV theme songs like they used to.

Thanks in part to Judd Apatow, the movie spin-off is going places. He already produced one with “Get Him to the Greek,” which branched off “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” Now he's got a directorial project in “This is 40,” a story spun off from “Knocked Up.” For those unaware, what makes it a spin-off rather than a sequel is that it follows minor characters from the original story. (It's just like Coach Lubbock from “Growing Pains” getting his own series in “Just the Ten of Us,” except it's on the big screen.) But Apatow isn't the only one making spin-offs. This year, there was “The Bourne Legacy,” and -- in some backward spin-off way -- “Prometheus." Meanwhile, with the Disney purchase of Lucasfilm, fans have been calling for spin-offs of supporting “Star Wars” characters, including Boba Fett. So, we thought it would be fun to come up with ten more very...

Tis the season to survive Christmas. That pretty much means in any and all ways possible. This is the season that makes your wallet scream, your kids paranoid and forces you into crowded situations with groups of angry parents. Good thing that Anchor Bay gave us the Christmas Survival Double Feature including the first two installments in the Silent Night, Deadly Night series. The same day that A.B. puts out the remake of the 1984 classic Santa Claus kill kill picture, they’ve decided to make available the out of print double feature DVD (not Blu-ray) of one of the most controversial flicks in American horror history (Decemeber 4th… order now for Christmas delivery). Billy Chapman and his brother want to share the true meaning of Christmas and teach you how to embody the holiday spirit. Let 1980x tell you just how they plan to do that. We’ll run...

Heather Langenkamp is a remarkable woman. She is best known for playing Nancy Thompson, the lead in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). Her portrayal of a teenager being attacked in her dreams, then for real by a dead, severely burned, child murderer was nothing short of groundbreaking for that era. At a time when the vast majority of scream queens in horror films of that time period were either playing the helpless victim or the eye candy, Heather’s “Nancy” was a strong, no-nonsense fighter who wouldn’t roll over and die. She took on the plight of teenagers in America, helping to portray them as strong and self-reliant, and showing they need to be heard and understood.

Full Moon High (Original Release Date: 27 February 1981?)
I had some difficulty figuring out exactly when this one came out. The date above was one of the ones I found. Wikipedia says 7 October, and some other places give other dates. After a little digging, it looks like 27 February may have been the day the film was printed. A New York Times article from 30 August mentions it will be coming out soon, so the 7 October release date looks more and more like the right one. I decided to go ahead and review it early, since I was eager to see it, and since the other movie I wanted to review this Thursday didn’t get to me on time.
1981 was a banner year for wolf movies. Of the four wolf-themed major releases -- An American Werewolf in London, The Howling, and Wolfen being the other three -- Full Moon High is probably the least well-known.

Bill Erwin, a character actor whose resumé included everything from Gunsmoke to Everwood, died at his home in California on Dec. 29. He was 96.
Erwin was nominated for an Emmy for his role as Sid “The Old Man” Fields on a 1993 episode of Seinfeld, the role for which he is perhaps best remembered:
He was also the knowledgeable bellhop in the 1980 romance drama Somewhere in Time, in which his character helped Christopher Reeve’s time travel to find love. When the film became a cult classic, Erwin regularly attended fan gatherings in Michigan.

“It’s Friday night, and the mood is right! We’re gonna have some fun, show you how it’s done, Tgif!”
As far as my elementary-school-aged self was concerned, that song signaled that the weekend was officially upon us. It meant ABC’s Tgif lineup was about to start, and I needed to book it to the couch so I could bask in the glory of Cory Matthews, Sabrina Spellman, and, of course, Steve Urkel – or Stefan Urquelle, depending on who decided to show up.

Reboot's rookie stars weigh in on how the genre that gave us Johnny Depp and Kevin Bacon has changed.

Beverly Hills, California — Back in the 1980s, horror movies were to film what soap operas were to TV: an aspiring actor's proving ground. It wasn't unreasonable to think that if you were lucky enough to land a part in a slasher flick, you could be the next Jamie Lee Curtis ("Halloween"), Kevin Bacon ("Friday the 13th") or Johnny Depp ("A Nightmare on Elm Street"). Young actors lined up for the chance to be hunted, slashed and drenched in Karo syrup.
But those were the '80s. These days, the genre is being remade. Cheapie exploitation flicks have morphed into high-profile movies, produced by the likes of Michael Bay and featuring iconic onscreen killers guaranteed to generate a $15 million to $20 million opening weekend.

With production on Never Sleep Again under way, this writer had a chance to check in with the documentary's directing team of Daniel Farrands and Andrew Kasch to see how things are progressing with their project that explores the Elm Street legacy.
"Never Sleep Again is going amazingly well," said Farrands. "It's funny, but this feels like everything is coming full circle. I did a Halloween movie when I was younger, then I spent a few years in the Friday the 13th universe. So now I am working with Nightmare on Elm Street, and it's definitely a dream come true."
Generally, when creating a documentary, you tend to miss out on a lot of stars who maybe are reluctant to talk about past projects. This is not a phenomenon that Kasch and Farrands are experiencing at all with Never Sleep Again. In fact, the duo have found themselves elated at...

For this week's final Halloween movies list, I decided to turn hit up the real superstars: my co-workers here in the MTV Newsroom who keep this great ship moving every damn day. After the jump you'll find recommendations and reminiscences from around the office. If you're game for some heavy reading, make sure to check out the last write-up, detailing Joel Hanek's pick: "Ernest Scared Stupid." Oh yes, he went there.
As for myself (MTV Movies Blog editor Adam Rosenberg), it's a toss-up. To this day I still have occasional nightmares relating to "Candyman," the Bernard Rose-directed, Virginia Madsen-starring horror flick based on a tale by novelist Clive Barker. There's something uniquely terrifying about the Candyman's ability to attack at any time, day or night. When horror can touch you even in the relative safety of sunlight, that's something to fear.
