TNT’s headline is looking all kinds of right this week. Michael Bay? Good. Apocalypse? Good. Action? Good. Drama? Good. We’re ready and so is the network. They’ve given an official 10-episode series order to The Last Ship.
“The Last Ship has all the elements of a big Hollywood blockbuster, from its epic storytelling to its top-notch cast headed by the perfect leading man, Eric Dane,” said TNT’s head of programming Michael Wright.
Now that’s a name that sound ring some bells. The Private Practice and Burlesque star is headlining the new series from Bay, producer of the Transformers big screen franchise.
The Last Ship is one of two pilots at TNT that were awaiting a series order, reported Deadline. Legends, the second one, hasn’t received official word yet.

Kathy's second season begins tonight.
At least I've got "The Name Game" out of my head.

Get ready to see plenty of Anger Management because FX is going to burn through the 90-episodes it ordered. The network plans to air 45 episodes a year, which means it will air every week for the next two years, taking a few breaks for the holidays. Er, good news for Michael Arden fans?
And speaking of Anger Management... well, the phrase "Two and a Half Men reunion" doesn't usually grab my interest unless you add Jane Lynch into the mix. I'm not happy about it, but I notice.
The Killing hasn't been renewed for a third season yet but TVLine says that filming is scheduled to begin on February 25 and has descriptions for the new characters.
Switched at Birth is getting a mother-and-daughter reunion. Ringer alum Zoey Deutch — Lea Thompson's real life daughter,...

Can an Office reunion with Bj Novak keep my fading interest in The Mindy Project from completely disappearing? (Vulture reports that he'll appear in two episodes.)
One of my favorite TV critics, NPR's Linda Holmes notes the high levels of violence in many of the critical favorites of the past several years.
Disney thinks ratings for Dancing with the Stars dropped this season because viewers tune in for trainwrecks and an All-Star season meant that the dancers were too good. All-Star or not, wasn't that the point of bringing back Bristol Palin and Kirstie Alley?
While officially, PBS says it trusts its audience to stick around and wait for new episodes of Downton Abbey when they air stateside, the broadcaster would like to shorten the wait time so that episodes can air soon after their UK debut.

That’s Captain McSteamy to you.
Former Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane has lined up his next role: Michael Bay’s post-apocalyptic TNT pilot Last Ship.
The project is based on a 1989 novel by William Brinkley and follows the crew of a naval destroyer who might be the only survivors left on the planet after a nuclear war. Dane will star as Captain Tom Chandler, described as “a career Navy man and a loving father and husband who’s never home as much as he’d like to be. Chandler is authoritative, decisive, fair, courageous and a born leader,...

There are TV shows that last way too long — think NBC’s The Office and ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy — and there are shows that end way too soon. For me, these include The CW’s Veronica Mars, Starz’s Party Down and FX’s Terriers. These series have another thing in common: There have been rumors of a movie adaptation for each.
In an interview with Television Business International, Terriers producer Shawn Ryan (also the creator of FX’s The Shield and producer of ABC’s upcoming Last Resort) revealed plans to produce a film based on the series. According to Ryan, the series has had a high number of viewings on Netflix, and he doesn’t feel the stories “have been rung out.”
Terriers, which stars Donal Logue (The WB’s Grounded for Life) and Michael Raymond-James (HBO’s True Blood), was canceled in 2010 after one season.

Emmy-nominated writer Michael Markowitz has closed a blind script deal at Warner Bros. TV.
The writer, whose comedies include "Becker" and "It's All Relative," will team with executive producers Tom Werner ("Grounded for Life," "That '70s Show") and Mike Clements ("Hank") on the project.
The CAA-repped Markowitz recently wrote the half-hour medical comedy presentation for J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot and Warner Bros. and penned the script for the upcoming Seth Gordon film "Horrible Bosses," starring Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston.
The former actor appeared in the films "Flamingo Kid" and "Last Resort" before his writing caught the attention of Paramount, which gave him his first break as professional scribe by hiring him as a staff writer on the TV series "Duckman."
He is managed by Heroes and Villains Entertainment.
