- Tom Schmidt: I'm dying.
- Joanie Morse: You are not going to die! I've got the stuff, I just need a syringe!
- Tom Schmidt: It's going to be terrible. You've got to leave!
- Joanie Morse: There's nowhere left to go.
- Tom Schmidt: Joanie, did they hurt you? It's all my fault... you were right! Protocol 1! We're all dying Joanie, except you.
- Joanie Morse: What happened Mr. Schmidt, what went wrong?
- Tom Schmidt: [guiltily looks away]
- Dr. Nielsen: Hello! I can see you! Get on down here!
- Captain Walston: What the hell is that?
- Dr. Nielsen: It's me, Dr. Nielsen!
- Tom Schmidt: Joanie, listen to me, you don't have to say a word, just show me your daybook!
- Tippett: [holds up burned paper] Here it is! You stupid cow, you burned the page but you remember the numbers, don't you?
- Joanie Morse: I'm not telling you anything!
- Tom Schmidt: Joanie, we don't have time to be nice!
- Tippett: She'll talk.
- [Tippett holds Joanie down and holds up a cut lamp cord]
- Tom Schmidt: Wait a minute! Wait a minute, this is getting out of hand... NO, NO!
- Tippett: Now I know you're frightened but we all wanna leave, don't we?
- [zaps her with the cord]
- Joanie Morse: [screams]
- Tom Schmidt: Jesus christ, Tippett!
- Tippett: Just my way of saying please! Look, you're killing us, don't you understand?
- [zaps her with the cord again and she screams]
- Joanie Morse: D-44! 8 over 5!
- [scrambles against the wall]
- Tippett: [types in code on computer but it reads "CODE EXPIRED. NO NEW CODE. PLEASE STAND BY."]
- Joanie Morse: Aah, aah!
- [Schmidt stares at her in regret]
- Dr. Dan Fairchild: Well, you've got the safe-suit on, get on down here!
- Cal Morse: It's different for you! Germs are your job!
- Joanie Morse: We're all crazy now, the whole world... he was part of it Cal, so was I!
- Cal Morse: Yeah but he knew about it and you didn't... I guess sometimes when people see a problem they've just got to solve it.
- Joanie Morse: Yeah.
- Major Connolly: First of all let me apologize, to you, Miss Evans, not only for the, uh, the lateness of the hour, but for the stress and worry that you've all been put through. As you know, BioTek is leading a revolution in agriculture. You've all heard the magic words "genetic engineering". Well, in just a few short years we may have ourselves a whole new kind of farm. Corn that doesn't need fertilizer, cattle that fatten themselves. On the other hand, with any new technologies, there are certain risks! Now earlier today, someone spilled a batch of experimental yeast. No one got hurt, but if we open those doors prematurely, before a proper cleanup can be done, we endanger the herds and crops that you already have.
- Vic Flint: Hey what's with the men from Glad?
- [Glad brand plastic bags]
- Major Connolly: I assume you're referring to our mobile quarantine package
- [Evans is being sealed in a large plastic bubble against her will]
- Major Connolly: . It's a temporary measure, for her protection and yours.
- Dr. Nielsen: I hear you've uncovered a new antitoxin. How 'bout we tackle that?
- Dr. Dan Fairchild: It's over, Nate.
- Dr. Nielsen: Over? No... look... look how much we've learned!
- [Nielsen shoots himself in the head with a gun while Dan Fairchild watches in horror]
- Cal Morse: They're not criminals, they made a mistake! We can sue 'em, you wanna? Civil law? Corporate negligence? Cold chicken?
- Connolly's Aide: [Viewing BioTek from outside on a surveillance camera] Jeez, look at that guy's hand!
- Dr. Dan Fairchild: Oh no...
- Dr. Dan Fairchild: [Inside BioTek] It's awful bright in here, Ramesh! It hurts my eyes.
- Dr. Ramesh Kapoor: That's easily overcome, Sir.
- [Ramesh hits fuse box of BioTek with an ax and disables it, making lights shut off]
- Tom Schmidt: Joanie, wait... something's up ahead.
- Joanie Morse: I don't think we should go down there...
- Dr. Nielsen: Why not, Joanie?
- Joanie Morse: [Screams] Dr. Nielsen!
- Dr. Nielsen: Very much alive, despite what they told you!
- Joanie Morse: You're sick!
- Dr. Nielsen: I was, for a moment, but not anymore.
- [Nielsen reaches for Schmidt's face]
- Dr. Nielsen: Hello, Tom! Don't worry, you'll recover just like the rest of us. Here, let me give you a hand! Kapoor is right down this way!
- Tom Schmidt: No, don't let them take me, Joanie! DON'T LET THEM!
- [hugs Joanie and starts crying]
- Joanie Morse: It's alright Mr. Schmidt, we aren't alone anymore!
- Dr. Nielsen: Oh, but look at my clothes Joanie, blood all over 'em! Do you think this will wash out?
- Joanie Morse: [nervously] what's the blood from?
- Dr. Nielsen: I don't want outsiders coming in here! They mustn't see what's happened! It's very shocking.
- Joanie Morse: Who mustn't see?
- Dr. Nielsen: Ask Ramesh!
- [Ramesh jumps out from behind a pipe on the wall, trying to murder Joanie and Mr. Schmidt with an ax]
- Dr. Nielsen: I feel rage, Joannie! BEAUTIFUL RAGE!
- Cal Morse: You worked on this!
- [referring to virus]
- Dr. Dan Fairchild: Hell no, I designed the cure!
- Cal Morse: You knew about it!
- Dr. Dan Fairchild: ...Well, I knew that they were trying - but I didn't think that they could do it. I should have had more faith in the ingenuity of my fellow man, turns out it's a big success!
- [holds up bottle of booze]
- Dr. Dan Fairchild: You think I need this? Well I don't.
- [Fairchild tosses booze bottle into the ditch]
- Dr. Dan Fairchild: You're right, I'm a technocrat. I allowed myself to be used and I'm as guilty as all the rest of 'em.
- Tom Schmidt: I hear you brought the whole shooting match down there but never bothered to speak to me! We had a pump malfunction an hour ago and we fixed it!
- Major Connolly: Hold on, Schmidt! We're in for the long haul. Protocol 1 has been validated.
- [Schmidt collapses against the wall in disbelief]
- Tom Schmidt: ...Validated?... How many are dead?
