The episode of The Test of Time covering Motel Hell was Written by Andrew Hatfield, Narrated by Niki Minter, Edited by Mike Conway, Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Copycat movies have been a thing forever. You can look at the broader scope and consider that most slasher movies became copycat in one way or another. A supernatural killer, excessive gore and nudity, and even the high body counts. That style of horror movies could become a dime a dozen. Twin films are similar, but they are made at roughly the same time and actually trying to release first to beat the other to market so as to not be seen as an attempted clone of the other studios idea. Boiling it down even further, some copycats go beyond just the themes and even try to take direct elements from the previous movie that made money.

The Bubba Ho-Tep episode of Wtf Happened to This Adaptation? was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Mike Conway, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian. Here is the text of Hatfield’s script:
Sometimes you find out that your favorite movies were adaptations of novels. While everyone knows when they are getting a Stephen King adaptation, a lot of the time you won’t know that a movie is based on an existing story until you get hit with it in the credits. Bubba Ho-Tep (watch it Here) is one of those properties. All of the advertising and certainly the feeling of the movie is that it’s a Bruce Campbell and Don Coscarelli movie, but the short story was written by Joe R. Landsdale. The movie was the little indie that could that was destined for cult fame and make...

This article contains spoilers for The Blacklist through season 9.
Two questions that define Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader) on The Blacklist are “how far is he willing to go?” and “why does he do what does?” The genius of Red as both sinner and saint creates a character that is certainly akin to a normal human being, though larger-than-life. But that doesn’t mean Red’s endgame is larger-than-life as well. His endgame may be a reward that is utterly and undeniably just normal.
It may be normal, but it will inevitably have a Red spin to it that will surprise and inspire. The metaphysical, the Hobson’s choices, and season nine’s “Avenging Angel” as well as the death of Marvin Gerard demonstrate three themes in The Blacklist that can help fans come to understand Red’s endgame through the endings he gives to others.

Between celebrating the many things that February has to offer make the most of your down time and check out what Arrow has to offer on their video player. Next month's highlights include David Buchanan's surrealist Laguna Ave and Daniel Griffith's documentary, The Sleeper Must Awaken: Making Dune, a new film devoted to the making of David Lynch's 1984 film. Cult titles coming next month included the always popular Turkey Shoot from Brian Trenchard-Smith. Things get evocative with the thrillers Angel and Avenging Angel. Some of Japan's best and most unconvential titles - Tetsuo: The Iron Man, Burst City and Dead of Alive: Final - are coming next month. This is an excerpt from Melissa Anderson’s Inland Empire, available to order from Fireflies Press.Like the Avenging Angel – the Nikki/Susan avatar who delivers a long soliloquy teeming with tales of imperilment – I often don’t know what was before or after in Inland Empire no matter how many times I’ve watched it. Recursive episodes proliferate in the film. At least three times Nikki/Susan dissociates, looking at another version of herself from another vantage point. At one point the Avenging Angel enters an empty movie palace, here a de facto hall of mirrors: she sees herself onscreen saying, ‘Watchin’ it, like in a dark theatre.’ That nearly vacant cinema instantly recalls Mulholland Drive’s Club Silencio, the mystical cabaret that Betty and Rita, desire-drunk after having sex, cab to in the middle of the night – and where their love story, if not their very identities, begins to unravel.

The #AlitaSequel campaign rages on today, and this time it is lead star Keean Johnson adding fuel to the fire.
Over on UniLad, Johnson went on record to say that Alita: Battle Angel is worthy of not just one sequel, but several. This comes after fans of the sci-fi epic took to the skies last month to campaign for a continuation. Which is to say that they rented out a plane and strategically ordered it to fly over Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on Oscar night.
It certainly helped drum up excitement among moviegoers, though whether it prompts 20th Century Fox to get the gang back together remains to be seen. One person who won’t think twice about reprising his role is Keean Johnson, who told UniLad that there is “so much material” for potential Alita sequels.

Edgar Wright's films are often likened to musicals, with his precise use of editing and shot choices giving us some of the most stylish comedy films of the century. Saboteur? BMX Ninja? Ninja Golf? Shadow Warriors? The Last Ninja? We dissect the ninja videogames of the 1980s...
When I was a kid, I picked what I wanted to be when I grew up based on computer games rather than actual life experience. First, thanks to Lunar Jetman, I wanted to be an astronaut. Then Elevator Action and Impossible Mission convinced me a spy would be an even cooler job. Winter Games and, uh, Horace Goes Skiing made me think I had a shot at the Olympic Slalom. By the time I got to playing Tapper, running a redneck bar that only served Budweiser to furious cowboys looked like a solid option too.
I didn’t end up doing any of those things in real life, but one thing I did pick up from gaming that’s never gone away was an obsession with ninjas. At the...

It's a futuristic fight to the finish when the Commander of a space station prison (Jan Michael-Vincent, The Mechanic, White Line Fever) takes on galactic archvillain Kol (Ross Hagen, Avenging Angel). Milestone issues are something that take priority with anyone who collects comics, especially when they pertain to a character as old and popular as Batman. And considering that Detective Comics will be hitting the 950 mark this week, it’s probably safe to assume this one won’t take long to fly off shelves.
Like most anniversary specials, readers can look forward to experiencing multiple stories thanks to a higher page count. In this case, we’re getting three: One involving Cassandra Cain/Spoiler; another featuring the unlikely duo of Batwing and Azrael; and a flashback of sorts focusing on Batman and Red Robin. At only $3.99, that sounds like a reasonable amount of content, if we say so ourselves.
Another reason you’ll want to check this one out is because it happens to serve as a...

A platformer with a hint of stealth and tonnes of drama, Saboteur was an 8-bit classic. Ryan looks back...
Saboteur arrived slap-bang in the middle of a decade where ninjas were the height of cool. Films like Enter The Ninja, American Ninja and Ninja Terminator (directed by the irrepressible Godfrey Ho) were must-have rentals at video shops. And in the realm of videogames, the stealthy movements and deadly weapons of the shadow warrior soon began to proliferate.
It's difficult to describe just how startlingly brilliant Saboteur looked back in the 1980s. Released by Durell, which at the time made some of the very best games for 8-bit computers, Saboteur was nothing less than a ninja simulator - a game that gave you all the agility, resourcefulness and strength of a black-clad shinobi.

There are roughly 900,000 tribute pieces online this week about the 1985 John Hughes film "The Breakfast Club," and I understand the motivation. If you were the right age when the film was released (I was 15 at the time), that movie felt like a lightning bolt right to the face. Hughes treated teenagers like they were actual people with complex emotional lives worthy of respect, and while that would seem to be a logical approach to writing about any character, it certainly didn't feel average when he did it. He wrote about that secret world of teenagers with what felt like laser accuracy, and he basically created an entire industry of movies that tried to tap into that same audience. So certainly, there is much to celebrate when looking back at that particular film, but when I went to look at a list of the films that came out in 1985, a year...

Thank you, Thoreau. The winds of change are ah-blowin’ kiddos. Turn that dial (and yeah I know kids… that term makes no sense to you) to NBC late night, and suddenly the land of Leno is now the field of Fallon. And where Jimmy once sat, now sits Seth. As internet pundits are quick to judge, I’ve been tickled pink at the complex barrage of arbitration that’s befallen the SNL alum already. Some good, some bad. But in nearly all cases? Passionate. Me personally? I’ll give them both the benefit of time. In his stint on ‘Late Night’, I thought Jimmy Fallon really came into his own. Taking that show to the “big leagues” has drawn itself plenty of criticism, and it brings me to my rant-n-rave this week: the outcries of the old who actively hate the new.

The Psych season finales have long had a habit of taking things to a whole new level of seriousness – traditionally with the appearance of Yin and Yang and their personal interest in harming Shawn and his loved ones – but the rule of Conservation of Plot has always held firm: come the first episode of the next series, everything must be as it was.

Actor often cast in sleazy, raunchy roles
Susan Tyrrell, who has died aged 67, had all the makings of a cult movie star. Husky-voiced and eccentric, she was a dissipated flower child, somewhat resembling an underground Shirley MacLaine. No wonder she was cast in outrageous roles in Bad (1976) and Cry-Baby (1990), which gained her fans among the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
Tyrrell (pronounced Tie-rell), who liked to be called SuSu, was attracted to the bizarre. "I find beauty in the grotesque," she once said, "and in the sweet soul inside someone who has been able to get through their life without being a rat's ass. Such people should be collected, should be swept up immediately and kept in a box of broken people."
One of the broken people she portrayed so vividly was Oma, the pathetic, drunken barfly in John Huston's Fat City (1972), for which she was nominated for an Oscar.

Susan Tyrrell, an Academy Award-nominated actress, but known more for her off-beat cult movies, has passed away at the age of 67. According to her official website, she died Sunday, June 16. A cause of death was not immediately available.
Tyrrell burst onto the national film scene in her fourth movie, John Huston's 1972 cult hit "Fat City." She was the low-down boozer girlfriend opposite Stacy Keach's has-been boxer Billy Tully. The role earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
She went on to star in more cult classics like "Bad," "Forbidden Zone," "Angel" and "Avenging Angel," but some know her best as Midge Montana from "Big Top Pee Wee," Chuck the bartender from 1988 musical "Rockula" or Johnny Depp's on-screen Aunt Ramona Ricketts in the 1990 John Waters cult musical "Cry-Baby." She also starred in Depp's 1990 short film "Every Little Thing, Neil."

Susan Tyrrell, a Best Supporting Actress nominee in 1972 for director John Huston's Fat City, has died, her family confirms to People. According to susantyrrell.com, the actress died Sunday, and had been a resident of Austin, Texas, since 2008, it was reported by Austin360.com. In the John Huston boxing drama, which also starred Jeff Bridges and Stacy Keach, Tyrell, then 26, played Oma, a falling-down drunk. She later said that although Huston wanted to cast Faye Dunaway in the role, Tyrrell convinced the director to give her the job because a 26-year-old drunk would be more interesting than a 35-year-old one.

The Angel Collection has been out of print on DVD for many years, but on November 1, 2011, Image Entertainment will release the trilogy in a two-disc set. Jigsaw’s ex-wife in the Saw series, Betsy Russell, shows up in the second installment — Avenging Angel.
“High school student by day… and a Hollywood Hooker by night.” With those immortal words, the most popular teen prostitute saga in America movie history was unleashed upon a shocked and salivating world. The Angel Collection now brings together this explosive hit trilogy, starring Donna Wilkes, Betsy Russell and Mitzi Kapture respectively as the tough yet tender teenage hooker who changed the shape of titillation action films forever!

Saw 3D The Final Chapter (Blu-Ray)Lionsgate Home Entertainment2010/90 mins/UnratedList Price $39.99 – Now AvailableThe Saw franchise is actually a guilty pleasure for me, I like these films. Strange, since the first time I saw the original, it didn't click with me. I grew tired of its many subplots and flashbacks plus trying to guess exactly who the Jigsaw killer was. Once his identity was revealed, it gave the brilliant Tobin Bell the opportunity to create one of the most iconic villains in the horror genre. Except when you look at it from a certain point of view, Jigsaw isn't really a villain. He's not a serial killer either, but a scientist and philosopher, hoping to give people a new appreciation for their lives through trials by fire. At least that's how he looks at it. But you have to hand it to Jigsaw. Those few who survive his deadly traps...

Can I get some opinions on this season of Dexter? Did you like it? I'm pretty sure I liked it, but the finale made me realize something. When Deb mentioned the Ice Truck Killer and what she suffered at his hands, I realized that seasons of Dexter very rarely reference each other. Aside from what is necessary for character growth, the actual events of previous seasons rarely have any impact on what comes after. I'm starting to wonder if it's to the show's detriment. Because of this, we all knew that Lumen wasn't going to be a long-running character, because every season is like that. They're self-contained. They stand alone - kind of like Dexter himself. Yeah, Dexter has to talk about Rita because of all the repercussions of her death, but how many times has he mentioned Trinity? Does anyone ever talk about Lundy, Miguel Prado, Lila, Doakes? These...

Craig here with the last in the current series of Take Three. Today: Paddy Considine
Take One: Dead-end England, twice
"Phil" in My Summer...Colin Firth, Daniel Craig, Colin Farrell, Clive Owen. And so on. When I think of an actor who encapsulates exactly what is crucial, surprising and truly versatile about British male acting right now, none of the above quite pass muster, for me. Paddy Considine, on the other hand, hits the mark. His two roles for director Pawel Pawlikowski – kindly arcade manager Alfie in Last Resort (2001) and Jesus freak Phil in My Summer of Love (2004) – couldn’t be any different from one another, yet both cover all the above attributes. Watch the two films back to back and tell me Considine shouldn’t be up for every great role an actor of his range and calibre could be suggested for right now. Then ask me why he...

Chicago – Betsy Russell possibly made one of the greatest feature film debut moments in movie history. In the early VHS and cable days, no one can ever forget her epic horse ride in “Private School.” It’s great to have Betsy back, adding her legacy to the incredibly successful “Saw” horror franchise, this time in “Saw 3D.”
Russell was a quintessential California girl from San Diego and was born into a family of intellectuals and educators. Her father, Richard Russell, is one of the most sought after economic/Dow Jones theorists, and her grandfather was the author and liberal lion Max Lerner. Russell added to that famous lineage by shooting her first commercial at 16 years old, and moving on to Hollywood to pursue acting full-time shortly thereafter.

Ah, the 1980s. Big hair, flashy clothes, and that new TV channel that only shows music videos. Exploitation films too were changing. Gone were the Excorsist- and Omen-inspired horror films of the 70s. Biker movies were passe. And socially relevant nurse and teacher dramas were being replaced by teen comedies and a new type of scary movie: the slasher film. In 1985, New World Pictures released Out Of Control, a somewhat strange combination of Lord Of The Flies and a John Hughes movie that is harder to classify. In some ways the perfect drive-in movie, Out Of Control contains violent action, teen romance, sex, nudity, and pop music. But there is an undercurrent of weirdness to the film that, intentional or not, implies some deeper meaning behind the exploitive aspects and makes it interesting to watch for its details. However, if you missed it at the drive-in...
