On Saturday morning, hikers found human remains in the Mt. Baldy wilderness and contacted the Fontana Sheriff’s Station.
“The identification process for the body located on Mt. Baldy on June 24, 2023, has been completed and was positively identified as 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood. The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results. After six months of searching, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office confirmed today that the human remains found earlier this week by hikers were, indeed, those of actor Julian Sands. He had been missing since mid-January.
The statement (read it below) says his cause of death is still pending, but Sands was an experienced hiker who loved the outdoors.
The positive identification comes less than a week after Sands’ family issued their first statement on the matter, saying they are “deeply grateful to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian.”
Of the actor himself — known for his roles in The Killing Fields, A Room with a View, Leaving Las Vegas, Warlock, Arachnophobia, Boxing Helena, 24, Smallville and Banshee — the family statement said, “We continue to hold Julian in our hearts, with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts,...

British actor Julian Sands has gone missing while hiking in southern California.
The prolific film and TV star was reported missing by his wife, the writer Evgenia Citkowitz, after going hiking in the San Gabriel mountains on Friday 13 January. He is a keen hiker, who once described his happiest moment as “close to a mountain summit on a glorious cold morning”.
Authorities are carrying out an extensive search-and-rescue mission for the 65-year-old actor, though extreme weather conditions had caused delays and interruptions. His adult son, Henry, is assisting in the search with an experienced climber.
The search has entered its 11th day, with Sands’ family issuing a statement on Monday 23 January thanking authorities for their “heroic” efforts.
“His family are frantic with worry,” a close friend told The Independent.

You’d be surprised how rare it is.” Jordin Althaus/Fox Watch Owen head for his father’s room and see everyone inside. That includes Chad Lowe’s character, Owen’s half-brother. Remember Oxford Blues, in which Rob Lowe’s uber-jock pursues unfeasibly well-to-do Lady Catherine Smugglington-Teacups from America to Oxfordton University where he woos her, gets a first class degree in Ppe and joins the first available Tory government?* Well, The Riot Club, is shaping up to be absolutely nothing like that. Lone Scherfig’s new drama – previously known as Posh after the play on which it is based – is a much less whimsical affair, with some pointed insights to make about the British class system. It has a new title, a new trailer and a fresh poster to share with you lucky, lucky public. Click below to watch the promo. brightcove.createExperiences();A story of entitlement, privilege and very silly waistcoats adapted by Laura Wade from her own play, The Riot Club takes obvious inspiration from the real-life Bullingdon Club. Scherfig herself, however, denies any direct link between the film’s characters and,...

It's not exactly Oxford Blues but Rob Lowe is reliving his college years—through his eldest son. Swinging by Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday night, the 49-year-old actor and father of two admitted to spending quite a bit of time in his son Matthew's fraternity. "You have to understand. I spent 18, 19, 20 doing something else," Lowe told Jimmy Kimmel. "I know what you were doing," quipped the funnyman in an apparently not so veiled reference to the Youngblood star's playboy years. "But I do realize that being a 20-year-old movie star isn't as half as fun as being in a frat in college. I'm telling you. I'm going back, man. I'm living vicariously,"...

Jason Solomons meets rising star Marine Vacth and Pelé, Terence Davies signs up Cynthia Nixon – plus the latest gossip from Cannes
Send the Marine!
Cannes has a great tradition of introducing new sex symbols to the world. Following in the dainty footsteps of Bardot, Deneuve and Paradis comes Marine Vacth (as in "pact"), whose performance in François Ozon's Jeune et Jolie had everyone asking, "Who's that girl?" In the film, she plays a gamine, bourgeois 17-year-old who suddenly takes up prostitution. Vacth followed Kate Moss as the face of Ysl perfume La Parisienne having been discovered in a branch of H&M when she was 15. When she did her first undressed shoot, her lorry-driver father sued the magazine and won. In her first-ever English interview, she told me: "My parents now leave me to do what I want. They haven't seen this film yet. But there's nothing they can do about it now.

Another week, another new Vampire Diaries poster to promote the show during sweeps. But this one is hot in more ways than one…
For starters, there is that actual fire. I assume that signifies more than that the woods around Mystic Falls will be seeing more action. In the world of vampires and witches, fire means death (or, you know, at least the torture of impending death until you’re saved).
The smoldering looks are a given. (Pause to admire Elena’s eyeliner.) And then, we come to the fashion choices. If I’m gonna go all Doc Jensen on you,...

Imagine meeting a name-dropping, bad-movie-premiere boasting, desperately hustling Hollywood agent from the 1980s. The viral video of the “Warren Klein” answering machine tapes would be the one-sided conversation you’d have with such a creature.
The six-minute slide-show, with audio purporting to be messages left by this agent for clients C. Thomas Howell, Jami Gertz, and Kirk Cameron, are currently cracking up the industry as the Funny or Die clip pinballed around Twitter and Facebook today. “Are you ready for the money?” he says to Cameron, about a role in 1989′s forgettable debate-team St. Elmo’s Fire wannabe Listen to Me.

Michael Bolton got voted off Dancing With the Stars the other night. I know, tragedy. But he’s being a little petty about a comment from out judge Bruno Tonioli, who called Bolton’s jive the worst he’d seen in eleven seasons. Bolton wants an apology, but the producers say it would be silly of them to force an apology from a judge for being judgmental. Plus, could you imagine what Simon Cowell would have do if this were precedent?
I’ve never paid a lot of attention to Dave Navarro, at least not after Rockstar: Inxs. But he seems like a good guy – he supports PETA, and he’s written an open letter to gay, bi and transgender teens that shows him to be fond of humans as well as animals. Count me in as a fan of the man, Dave Navarro.

Is there anything more satisfying than going to Amazon, typing in the name of an 1980s movie you’ve long wanted to see debut on DVD (or be reissued), and discovering it’s on its way? It just happened to me with 1987′s The Allnighter starring Susanna Hoffs, Joan Cusack, and Dedee Pfeiffer, which hits DVD Aug. 3. And while the headline-grabbing news for may have been the announcement of Sherlock Holmes 2 (hitting theaters in December 2011), there were some other drool-worthy developments for comic book fanboys and girls. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner chairman and CEO Barry Meyer said the studio was developing films with Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and assorted Mad magazine characters. None of which should come as earth-shattering news. After all, these potential franchises have been buzzed about for a while. And the studio needs to scramble to find another...

The rush of literature on the financial world fails to portray the systemic problems which brought about global meltdown
'Literature describes a descent," writes Martin Amis in his novel The Information. "First Gods, then demi-Gods. Then epic became tragedy, failed kings, failed heroes, then the gentry, then the middle class and its mercantile dreams. Then it was about you – social realism. Then it was about them – low life, villains, the ironic age." Yet in this cavalcade of whiskery generals and noble proles one group has gone almost ignored: the bankers. Victorian readers could at least turn to Trollope's Melmotte and Dickens' Merdle; their descendants have had almost nothing. One can imagine the financiers' response as they waited for those writers to call them back: the initial hurt, hardening into a resolve to be more alluring – to work out more, perhaps, or wear racier ties. Or, best of all, to trigger an almighty economic meltdown.
