Ted Russell Kamp just can’t quit L.A. Despite an extended stint in Seattle and growing up in Upstate New York, Kamp is a California country-rocker through and through, and his latest album, California Son, reads like a love letter to the Golden State.
But it’s also a snapshot of one of the most prolific, if under the radar, careers in country music. A Grammy-winning musician and producer, Kamp is revered by those in the know for his work with Shooter Jennings, with whom he’s played since...

Rick Springfield was a massive music star in the ’80s, but even he had to bow to his record label’s demands. In 1975, executives shelved one of his albums for being too “suggestive.” But the “Jessie’s Girl” singer’s previously unreleased classic rock songs will soon go public.

Springfield began his music career at 13 years old when he learned to play the guitar. As a teen, he performed in various bands and finally found success with the pop-rock group Zoot. Despite releasing a handful of songs, the band broke up in 1971.
Springfield soon launched his solo career with his debut single, “Speak to the Sky.” He also released a few albums with Columbia Records, including 1973’s Comic Book Heroes and 1974’s Mission: Magic!

The weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day are flooded with new Blu-ray releases of vintage romances, starting with one of the most beloved and effective of all cinematic tearjerkers, Arthur Hiller and Erich Segal’s Love Story (1970). In a shrewd piece of promotion concocted by Paramount studio executive Robert Evans, Segal wrote Love Story as a screenplay but turned it into a novel while the movie was well along the way to production. The book came out a few months before the movie, became a bestseller, and director Hiller’s “adaptation” of Segal’s literary phenomenon opened to huge grosses. The movie […]

What do you say about Purple Rain that hasn't already been said? Not only is it one of the greatest music films of all time, but it's one of the defining films of the 1980s and earned Prince an Oscar. The soundtrack spent nearly a full half-year at Number One on the Billboard charts, sold 20 million copies worldwide and won two Grammys. But as with all things Prince, that's not the full story. A number of truly excellent books and articles have been written about the making of Purple Rain, and we're here to share some of the best bits of them with you.

A review of tonight's "True Detective" coming up just as soon as I support feminism by having body image issues... "But us, the investigation... I don't think it's supposed to work." -Ray "Night Finds You" could be a tricky episode for me to write about, since it ends on a cliffhanger with Ray getting shot in the chest by Caspere's killer (or by another man with a very particular bird mask fetish), and since you know I've seen next week's episode and am therefore aware whether Ray lives or dies. Fortunately, I don't need to dance around what I do and don't know, and what I'm comfortable hinting at, because I can share exactly how I reacted in the moments immediately after I finished watching this one: "Huh. I was not expecting that." If Velcoro is dead, then all the time spent trying to cast that role represents a classic...

The True Detective episodes discussed are episodes 9-10. The two new True Detective: Season 2 TV commercials are entitled ‘Chaos’ and ‘Stand.’
On the two True Detective: Season 2 TV spots:
In the first trailer, Los Angeles detective Ray Velacro (Colin Farrell), a corrupt cop under the control of crime lord Frank Semyon (Vince Vaughn), asks if he is even supposed to solve the case he’s investigating. Seymon also says at one point, “I need a direction to turn, or I may just start pulling down walls.”

HBO is now entering the heavy promotion stage for "True Detective" Season 2, which stars Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, and Taylor Kitsch and premieres June 21. The network recently shared two new teasers, even letting some of the high-profile cast occasionally speak instead of just looking menacing or depressed:
HBO also issued materials with more details on what will happen in the first two episodes, which air in June, listing more cast members and guest stars.
What's The Show About?
A bizarre murder brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California in "True Detective."
Colin Farrell plays Ray Velcoro, a troubled detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. Vince Vaughn portrays Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of...

The weather is getting warmer (well, for some of us), and the days are getting longer. With spring less than two weeks away, it's already time to start thinking about the perfect songs for those poolside frolics. Luckily, there are a handful of freshly released tracks that are fitting for the kickoff to a hopeful resurgence of sunlight, and People is bringing that list to you right here. The Knocks - the electro pop act who released their Comfortable Ep earlier this year - are featured twice on the list, enlisting vocals by Ra Ra Riot on "Savior," and Sneaky Sound System on "The One.

Confession: My teenage bedroom wall space was devoted to three people: John Taylor (of Duran Duran, natch), John Schneider (c'mon, Bo Duke?!) and one Mr. Rick Springfield. My best friend, Amy, and I saw 'Hard to Hold' at least 10 times, and that was only because neither of us had our driver's license yet and had to rely on the 'rents to drop us off at the theater. It would have been lots, lots more.
So, I was giddy at the prospect of chatting with the pop star/actor/author about his new book 'Late, Late at Night' (Touchstone Books), the autobiography that has sparked a flurry of headlines about his teenage suicide attempt, dealing with depression and his admissions about years of infidelity in his relationship with wife Barbara.

Rick Springfield phoned us this week to chat about his upcoming four-episode guest arc on Showtime's Californication. (The David Duchovny sex romp returns this Sunday at 10 p.m. Et; Springfield makes his grand entrance on Oct. 11, playing a twisted version of himself. We'll tell you more in the issue of EW on-stands Oct. 2.) At the end of the call, he dropped the news that he's currently shopping his autobiography. He sent the prologue and opening chapter around town last week. Though (hopefully) not as explosive as Mackenzie Phillips, Springfield assured us he'll be "brutally honest about anything other than the things that will put me in prison." Nice start! Asked for a sample anecdote, he gave us a pretty great one: "Well, I went to Vietnam in 1969, with a band when I was 17 or 18, and we toured Vietnam for three months. I almost killed the band, blew us up with a hand grenade.
