“It’s a story of identities,” Kapur said. “It’s about cultural clashes and it’s a comedy, but it’s about hiding behind an identity and how identities can become tribal, and how tribalism can lead to clashes and fundamentalism. It’s a romcom, but based on this fundamental idea of people adopting identities out of fear of marginalization.”
Kapur was speaking on Tuesday at the Asia society’s annual U.S.-Asia Entertainment Summit, being held virtually this year, at a panel titled ‘Cinemas to Smartphones: Streaming Wars and the Future of Bollywood and Indian Content.’ Kapur is currently conducting rehearsals in London.

Directed by Hansal Mehta, the film narrates the story of a Pt Master Montu (played by Rajkummar Rao), and addresses the importance of sports education in school curriculum, in a light vien.
"I had a great time with the children on the sets of ‘Chhalaang', both on camera and off camera. They are the real stars. They were natural, phenomenally talented and have added so much value. Many people had urged Shekhar Kapur to change the script of his 1983 debut directorial feature, "Masoom", and the filmmaker says he is glad that he had the courage to silence those voices, and follow his vision.
"So many people that 'knew' wanted me to change the script of 'Masoom'," Kapur wrote on Twitter while sharing a poster of the film, adding: "People that were famous, experienced and 'knowledgeable' told me it had no drama, no villain. I was naive, unknown, unskilled and untrained. But rebellious. Thank God for that."

Starring: Vidya Balan, Arjun Rampal, Jugal Hansaraj, Tota Roy Choudhury
Directed by Sujoy Ghosh
It’s just another ordinary humid laconic night in Chandanagar, a small dusty town on the outskirts of Kolkata where, as one grinning havaldar informs his senior, nothing ever happens.
Well, all that is about to change. Sujoy Ghosh’s small-town suspense thriller knocks the bottom of the thriller genre. Kahaani 2, no relation to the first film in the suspenseful series that Sujoy directed to ever-casting fame (it’s Vidya Balan all the way in this franchise) is not only a first-rate action drama with some of the most ingenious action (including one absolutely spellbinding fist-to-fist between the brave Balan and female khaki-clad assassin) it is also a haunting deeply disturbing mirror of our times when normalcy and decorum often hide grievous disturbances, best left untampered and unrevealed. Until someone dares to tell the truth.

“Tum mein Shiva jaisa kya hai?” the lady asks Devgan lustfully.
I held my breath wondering what he will show her. Relax. It’s just the tattoos which make our hero so loftily heroic. Just to drive in the hero’s anointed status we have the noisy background score where star-stuck choruses chant in unison about Shiva the Destroyer, blah blah.
Shivaay is so steeped in self-importance so awed by its own intended grandeur it seems forget there is a story to tell. Story, there is to tell. But the plot is propelled forward in stuttering staccato waves of melodrama and action. It’s like Shekhar Kapoor desperately tries to shake hands with Rohit Shetty. But they just can’t seem to find a meeting-ground. Not in this Ajay Devgan-directed lopsided mélange of mayhem and melodrama.

The very good looking lead pair of this enormously disappointing film, ironically and pompously calling itself Shaandaar, are insomniacs. To prove it, they even get a ravaged remix version of the classic number ‘Neend Na Mujhko Aaye’ playing in the background as Shahid and Alia go fishing, dancing, and generally pfaffing around to fob off sleep-challenged ennui.
I have a great solution for all insomniacs. Watch Shaandaar. Repeatedly in a loop. Sleep guaranteed.
Outwardly the film has everything going for it. The director of Queen Vikas Bahl helming the hijinks as two ridiculously ostentatious business families gather for a destination wedding in a European idyll.
It must have cost them a bomb. To make the film, I mean. To cart the large cast of bimbos, bimbettes, toy boy and joy girls all to a European destination for a film that must have seemed smart on paper…very smart. After all,...

Respect film critics if you have invited them!
Kabir Khan created a brilliant climax scene for Bajrangi Bhaijaan. People from India and Pakistan converged on both sides in an attempt to set Pavan Kumar Chaturvedi free. Now, Pavan had completed a noble task of ensuring Munni was safe back with her parents and citizens from both countries were pushing for justice.
At Fun Republic in Versova, Andheri, in Mumbai, a similar scene was being enacted before the Press Show.
Apparently, there was a movie contest where winners were being given their free tickets. The film critics and assorted media was there too, on invitation. However, one had to push through the crowd to get to the front only to be told by the usher that we would have to enter with the tickets.
Fair enough!

According to reports, director Ahishor Solomon's "John Day" is ripped off from a Spanish film called "Box 507".
"I was unaware of any similarity and I haven't seen that Spanish film," said Naseer and added: "I must find out about that film first. But how many original movies are made here in the first place?"
Naseer, known for his work in films like "Arth", "Masoom", and most recent "Iqbal", says he doesn't work in plagiarized.

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah is reportedly not a very big fan of remakes, and says that he does not understand the ‘remake trend’. Also, he is definitely not in favour of his 1983 film Masoom.
Masoom was a film directed by Shekhar Kapur starring Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi as his wife. This film was about Naseeruddin’s love child disrupting his happy family with Shabana.
Naseeruddin told the Times of India in an interview,” I do not understand this remaking of a film that has become such a trend these days. Why would you remake something that has already been made in the first place? Unless you have some different angle or factor to add to it, you should not do it.”
There were recent reports that Himesh Reshammiya bought the remake rights of Masoom, to which Naseeruddin said that the film cannot be made better than what it is.

Himesh Reshammiya has been awfully low-profile these days. Quietly we hear he has negotiated for the remake rights of Shekhar Kapur's 1983 classic Masoom which starred Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi as a couple grappling with the reality of an illegitimate son in the husband's life. The tear-jerker had melted hearts across the nation immediately establishing Shekhar Kapur as a formidable filmmaking force. Now 30 years later, Himesh Reshammiya has bought the remake rights of Masoom from the original producers Chanda Dutt and Devi Dutt. The remake would be directed by Bedobrata Pain, whose historical drama Chittagong last year received lavish critical acclaim. What's more, Himesh has zeroed in on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan to play the two roles immortalized by Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah. According to a very reliable source, Abhishek and Aishwarya have agreed in principle to be in Himesh's remake. "Now, the details are being worked out,...
