Between its striking title, lurid artwork, and the timing of its release — 1981 bore the likes of Halloween II, Friday the 13th Part 2, My Bloody Valentine, The Burning, The Funhouse, The Prowler, and Happy Birthday to Me — one might mistake Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker (also known as Night Warning) for a run-of-the-mill slasher flick. While it vaguely fits in the slice-and-dice mold, the film is anything but generic.
The prologue — which may have inspired Final Destination 2‘s unforgettable opening sequence — was directed by Michael Miller with cinematography by Jan de Bont, but Miller was let go by the production after falling behind schedule. He was replaced by TV veteran William Asher, who shot the remainder of the film with Robbie Greenberg as director of photography.
14 years after his parents were killed in an over-the-top car crash, Billy Lynch witnesses his infantilizing aunt-turned-guardian, Cheryl Roberts, kill a repair man in cold blood.

I grew up in the time of the Chuck Norris joke. I didn’t even really know who he was apart from the Walker, Texas Ranger guy who Conan O’Brien would pull a lever to get just the most random, out of context clip. I remember seeing the Chuck Norris joke book in a Barnes and Noble store and leafing through it only to find a bunch of absolutely absurd and comically over the top things that Chuck Norris could and would do to you or what he kept behind his beard. It was enough for me to start looking at his overall contribution to film and much of it was action. I found him teaming up with the likes of Lee Marvin in The Delta Force or going up against the great Christopher Lee in An Eye for an Eye. There’s also a great fight he had with...

Renny Harlin, one of Finland’s most successful exports to Hollywood having helmed the likes of Cliffhanger, The Long Kiss Goodnight, and Deep Blue Sea, is switching to his native language for his latest project, the third chapter in the highly successful comedy series Class Reunion.
The project is aiming for a late June production start date in Finland, local producers Solar Films told Deadline. This will be dependent on cast availabilities and ongoing consultation regarding Covid-19 safety, they outlined. The project could become of the first European features to roll cameras since the near-global production shutdown caused by the pandemic.
Finland has managed to largely contain the coronavirus spread, recording 320 deaths to date, which despite its fairly small population of 5.5 million still looks favorable in comparison with other European nations.
Class Reunion 3 will shoot with various Covid-19 safety measures in place, including having a specifically allocated person to supervise regulations on set,...

It’s been 40 years since the release of “National Lampoon’s Animal House.” That means “Animal House” is older now than the events of “Animal House” were when “Animal House” came out. It’s part of our history now, along with “National Lampoon’s Vacation” and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” Each of these films are considered comedy classics, or at least extremely influential, because of their eagerness and skill at capturing an idea of America — both the country and its culture — that we think is real, but never existed, and possibly never should have.
But these are just the best-known “National Lampoon” movies. The brand has been used on many motion picture comedies over the years, including many theatrical releases and more straight-to-video schlock than most people realize. With the 40th anniversary of “Animal House” on the horizon, and the 35th anniversary of “Vacation” the same week, we’re...

Getting stuck in an elevator is scary enough, but doing so with a bunch of senior citizens? You can be sure filmmaker Patrick Rea piles on the spooky - plus a little silly - in this teaser for his "It's Hell Getting Old" segment of the Hellevator Man anthology.

After the surprising news that "Heroes" will be coming back with a 13-episode event series titled "Heroes Reborn," it's game on for bringing shows back from the dead. After all, does anyone remember what "Heroes" was like toward the end of its original run? Not exactly something you'd be itching to see brought back to life.

Temptation: Confessions Of A Marriage Counselor Directed by Tyler Perry Starring: Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Lance Gross, Robbie Jones, Ella Joyce, Brandy Norwood, Kim Kardashian, Vanessa L. Williams I’d like to preface this review by saying I’m actually a fan of Tyler Perry. I’ve enjoyed a majority of his plays, with my favorite being Madea’s Class Reunion. While his plays do benefit from the live audience reaction, and Perry’s ability to play off of that, his soap operatic nature becomes a strength rather than a weakness. Unfortunately, in the transition to cinema, a lot of Perry’s soap opera stories become comical, and turn what should be a serious story into pure, unintentional [ Read More ]

It's time for another reunion... the big-screen kind.
This time, it's "10 Years," the story of a group of cohorts who return to their hometown for their 10th high school reunion. Charlie Larue is a cheap rate producer with a dream and that dream is a film, a film that will bring together all the most low-down, filthy, nasty, offensive jokes in one disgusting place. Welcome to National Lampoon’s Dirty Movie, a flick that doesn’t let up in its efforts to offend your sensibilities and make you lose your lunch laughing, from the people who brought you Christmas Vacation, Animal House and Class Reunion.
On DVD from 16th April 2012 courtesy of Transition Digital Media, Dirty Movie is an hilarious filth rollercoaster that doesn’t let up with the smut for second. Didn’t like that off colour joke? Well don’t worry, because another one is coming to upset your elderly relatives in a second. The twisted humour never quits in this sledgehammer sketch comedy that assaults you with jokes until you can’t take no more.

I was just reading This article announcing the next Tyler Perry stage play, titled, A Madea Christmas, which will begin running at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Ga, on May 13 and 14, with tickets going on sale tomorrow. I’m not sure if this show will travel like like last year’s cross-country tour of Madea’s Big Happy Family.
I bring this up because, as we’ve witnessed, after last year’s theater tour of Madea’s Big Happy Family (or it may have been sometime during its run), we learned a film adaptation of that play was coming; and of course, we already know that it’s been produced, seen the creative posters, the trailer, and know that it’ll be released in theaters in a week.
So, Obvious Guy says, well, does this mean that the next Tyler Perry Madea movie will be A Madea Christmas?...

There are many shows which are described as "beloved" but only a few which truly deserve that description. The Andy Griffith Show is one of those precious few. The long running series, which inspired two spin-offs (Gomer Pyle Usmc; Mayberry Rfd), has been rerun consistently since its initial run (1960-1968), always on the air somewhere. The series celebrated it's 50th anniversary in 2010. While it's true that many shows are still remembered decades after they aired, how many are remembered as fondly as the Andy Griffith Show?
The Andy Griffith Show 50th Anniversary: The Best of Mayberry collects 17 of the most popular episodes of the series, as well as several other bonus treats. One of the best extras in the set is "Danny Meets Andy Griffith", an episode of the popular 1950s series Make Room for Daddy (Aka The Danny Thomas Show) which served as the prototype for Griffith's own show.

In a story that is just breaking, director John Hughes has passed away at the age of 59. It's being reported that Hughes was out taking a walk around his Manhattan neighborhood this morning when he suffered a heart attack.
For those that came of age during the time like myself, John Hughes' movies were seminal moments that perfectly captured the pleasure and pain of growing up as a teenager in the 1980s. He wrote, directed and produced some of the decade's biggest comedies including Vacation, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck and Home Alone, films that when combined grossed over a billion dollars at the box office. He also directed or wrote a series of teenage dramas that spoke to the reality of growing up in the middle class suburbs such as The Breakfast Club, a drama examining five teenagers and their social...
