Princess Anne has long been known as the hardest-working member of the royal family who has never wavered in her support of the monarchy or her duties. Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, she was one of the first family members to issue a statement in support of her brother when he became King Charles II.
But the Princess Royal didn’t have glowing comments when she was asked for her reaction to the birth of a future king. Here’s what cold response Anne had for reporters after Prince William was born.

Years after The Beatles broke up, Paul McCartney still spent a good deal of time reflecting on the group. The split had been acrimonious, but after the dust settled, the surviving Beatles had improved their relationships. McCartney was also able to look back fondly on his friendship with John Lennon. He discussed all this with Peter Cox, a prominent vegetarian, within minutes of meeting him, to Cox’s slight alarm.
Paul McCartney surprised a stranger with the way he talked about The Beatles
In 1988, Paul and Linda McCartney met Cox, the former chief executive of the Vegetarian Society. He thought they were an “amazingly beautiful couple” and was excited to meet them. The excitement went both ways. McCartney was a vegetarian and animal activist and was familiar with Cox’s work.

Kate Bush is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a long overdue honor for the experimental and forward-thinking singer-songwriter.
Because she’s rarely performed live over the course of her career (she has only toured once, in 1979), most of Bush’s fans have only been able to watch her on television programs. In 1985, while rolling out her classic album Hounds of Love, she made her first of four career appearances on Wogan, a BBC One chat show hosted by presenter Terry Wogan.

Dolly Parton is a country music legend, a savvy businesswoman, a philanthropist, and a cultural icon, but she revealed the one thing she wants fans to remember about her. Here’s what the “Jolene” singer said she hopes people say about her in 100 years.
Dolly Parton | Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic Dolly Parton predicted what she would be like ‘as an old lady’
Dolly Parton guessed what she would be like “as an old lady” during a 1983 interview on Wogan. The singer was 37 years old at the time.
“I would imagine I’ll be quite a character when I’m older,” she said. “I would love to always be able to just be whatever seems to make me happy. And I would love to be able to write songs and to write books and be sort of like Agatha Christie and always be productive and be an advisor to other people in the business,...

When Nicolas Cage was first approached about playing a slightly-psychotic version of himself in the movie The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, he was more than a little hesitant about signing on for it. His fears only grew when he learned that the “Nicolas Cage” character in the movie would be near broke, living in a hotel, quasi-estranged from his wife and teenage daughter, and reduced to making a personal appearance at a birthday party for a wealthy fan in order to pay off his debt. There’s even a recurring bit where a manic,...

The Mighty Boosh’s Julian Barratt and Yonderland’s Simon Farnaby talk to us about their Isle of Man action comedy, Mindhorn...
When you get to chat to two comedy geniuses at once, it doesn’t feel much like an interview. It’s more like sitting in on some well-honed hilarity, and trying not to make a tit of yourself when you try and interject with a question. This is what it felt like when I sat down with Julian Barratt and Simon Farnaby for twenty minutes, in a snazzy central London meeting room, to talk about Mindhorn.

Sir Terry Wogan was a broadcasting institution and cultural iconoclast. He hosted a multitude of television and radio programs, including the quiz show Blankety Blank, as well as the charity program Children in Need, which was first broadcast in 1980, and which he continued to host after his retirement from regular broadcasting. With that singular Irish Blarney and an irreverent whimsy, he helped make the Eurovision Son Contest, for which he provided acerbic commentary for the BBC from 1971 to 2008, relevant again, long after Brits ceased to take the program seriously. "Who knows what hellish future lies ahead?" he mused at the beginning of the 2007 contest. "Actually, I do. I've seen the rehearsals."Wogan, who died of cancer at 79 on Sunday, was an ubiquitous presence in England and Ireland. He had a brilliant ability to coax celebrities into saying things that adorned morning headlines, and would deliver lacerating...

Mills will be joined by Royal Marines for the 400ft abseil.
"I would say I'm really excited to be part of Children in Need this year, but to be honest, I am ridiculously nervous about what I am taking on," Mills noted.

Viewers will see if Mills can conquer his fear of heights during the Children in Need show on November 13.

An all-new Tom and Jerry cartoon has premiered on BBC Children in Need.
Fearne Cotton introduced the new short, featuring "the legends" Tom and Jerry, during the BBC broadcast on Friday (November 14).
The cat and mouse were enlisted by Sir Terry Wogan to help Children in Need mascot Pudsey Bear to raise money for this year's telethon.
The subsequent adventure saw the duo fail to impress The Apprentice's Lord Alan Sugar, EastEnders's Danny Dyer and the Strictly Come Dancing judges with their madcap antics.
Tom and Jerry have been a popular animated duo around the world since their creation in 1940 by Hanna-Barbera.
BBC Children in Need aired from Elstree Centre in Hertfordshire. Wogan, Cotton, Tess Daly, Nick Grimshaw and Rochelle Humes oversaw the proceedings.

Wogan - who will be backing #TeamLemonDrizzle - said: "My own wife's lemon drizzle cake is a thing of beauty, so, I am asking you, the Great British public, to get behind me and bake, bake, bake, to make a lemon drizzle to remember, for BBC Children in Need this year!
"Think of all the money we can raise together for disadvantaged children and young people all across the UK."

Sir Terry Wogan's drawing skills, or lack of them, are enough to cause plenty of titters on Channel 4's new gameshow Draw It!.
The show features celebrities and members of the public taking part in drawing challenges, but Wogan's scribblings of a "strange appendage" leave everyone in the studio scratching their heads.
We can't have been the only ones thinking the final answer was something much ruder. And drawing an arrow to the 'right area' didn't help with our sniggers.
Hosted by Mel Giedroyc, Draw It! is a new weekday quiz on Channel 4, which airs at 4.30pm.
The show's winner takes home a £5,000 prize.

At some point, probably around 2009, Michael McIntyre became Britain's biggest stand-up. The jolly and infectious comic filled a Peter Kay/Lee Evans-shaped hole, selling out arenas and popping up on your TV more often than an Emeli Sandé track.
After a short stint on Britain's Got Talent alongside The Hoff and Amanda Holden, McIntyre appeared to be aware of his own ubiquity and took a break from stage and screen. So after a lengthy break how is the comedian making his comeback? With his own chat show, of course.
McIntyre joins the long list of TV funnymen who commissioners haven't known what to do with, so they hand them a chat show. In theory, his jovial style seems like it might fit in the chat format. In practice, things got off to a start even more wobbly than his head.

Earlier this year, in an attempt to help deal with the usual ongoing cash-flow crisis, I pitched a stall at the local car boot sale. Among this motley collection of goods were a few unwanted Doctor Who goodies such as magazines, books and copious amounts of video cassettes which are, by definition, impossible to give away – never mind sell.
My stall attracted quite a few visitors. One of them was a young chap who was evidently a Doctor Who fan – or at least used to be a fan. Attempting some lame form of small talk, I asked the boy who his favourite Doctor was – turns out, it was David Tennant's incarnation. So I asked him if he was looking forward to the anniversary special – he surprised me with a forlorn shake of the head. When I asked him why, he explained that he and his mates at school had...

Stars of West End musical Matilda kicked off proceedings, before ice-skating legends Torvill and Dean took to the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor and were praised by head judge Len Goodman.

He said: "I love baking and this year to fund-raise for BBC Children in Need I am going to challenge Sir Terry to a bake-off. I will probably bake a carrot cake - nutritious and delicious!
"If you're bored of bathing in beans, silencing yourself and space-hopping to get to work, head to bbc.co.uk/pudsey to download your fund-raising pack, which will give you some rather incredible ideas on how to raise money!

After weeks of the usual ridiculous speculation (who really believed Chris Fountain would duck into the house mere days after being fired from Corrie?), the cast for the next Celebrity Big Brother was finally revealed on tonight's (August 22) massive launch show.
In some ways it's a pretty typical CBB lineup - a Towie star, tick. A Loose Woman, tick. A Barbie-esuqe glamour model, tick, tick, tick. However, we did notice that the new lot of contestants are a bit more controversial than usual, boasting between them an 'impressive' amount of arrests and column inches for issues as diverse as drink, drugs, violence and racism.
Before it all kicks off in the house, Best in Showbiz brings you a rundown of the real-world antics of Celebrity Big Brother's most scandalous group yet...

The spray-on kitsch is fairly hard to take, but even harder to take is that the organisers actually take it seriously
✒It's the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday, the 57th. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it was the last? At least for us. BBC1 could put on reruns of Flog It!, or pro-celebrity badminton. The song contest would disappear on to one of those cable channels with audiences so small they can't be measured – Eurosport 3, perhaps.
Because it is so utterly, horribly grim. Acts which would not get a gig on Ladies' Night at the Baku Freemasons appear in front of millions singing like a cement mixer tackling Celine Dion's greatest hits, or, because they are always decades behind, doing punk in Finnish, or there's some preening poltroon in sky-blue vinyl who resembles a rapper as much as I sound like Jose Feliciano.

Dame Helen Mirren has become the latest British star to forfeit her share of a government grant to help elderly people in the U.K. keep warm this winter.
Officials award every citizen over the age of 65 a payment of up to $480 (£300) each year to help offset the high cost of heating during the chilly winter months.
Campaigners launched the Surviving Winter Appeal to encourage wealthy recipients to donate their allowance to poorer pensioners, and veteran actor Sir David Jason recently signed up to the initiative.
Mirren has now also pledged her support to the scheme, as has Absolutely Fabulous star June Whitfield and radio broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan, according to Britain's The Times.
Wogan says, "This is an excellent way for local people to help some of the most vulnerable older people in their area. I'll certainly pass my payment on and encourage everybody who can to contribute towards it."...

Terry Wogan has admitted that he would like Ann Widdecombe to quit Strictly Come Dancing.
Despite being the lowest scored contestant on the BBC show, Widdecombe has never been placed in the bottom two and is extremely popular with the public.
Wogan has now pleaded with the former Tory MP to follow the example of John Sergeant, who withdrew from the show in 2008 when it became clear that he stood a good chance of making it as far as the final.

Thirteen-year-old actress didn't watch the original, Let The Right One In, because 'mom wouldn't let me' but she's certainly up to speed with The Vampire Diaries
It feels strange to come away from a half-hour chat with a 13-year-old girl feeling like you've survived a rigorous mental workout, but Chloe Moretz, sweary star of Kick-Ass and child vampire of Let Me In, keeps you on your toes. Waiting to go into a plush drawing room in a London hotel, there's talk of Chloe hating her new hair, cut into a bob for a role in Martin Scorsese's latest, Hugo Cabret. It adds fuel to a lazy half-suspicion that I'm about to meet a precocious Hollywood brat, like the hyperactively PR-savvy Macaulay Culkin that appeared on Wogan in 1991. But once we start to talk, it's apparent that she's whipsmart and funny, going off on tangents, obsessing over couture fashion, and...

Twenty-five years on from Back to the Future, Christopher Lloyd opens up – a little – about career choices, shyness, and a preference for life in the slow lane
Ten years ago, an audience with Christopher Lloyd was about as exceptional an occurrence as a blip in the space-time continuum. He didn't do print, he didn't do radio, and, unless pressed, he steered clear of chat shows. An appearance on Wogan in 1991 went down in the annals of excruciating TV: Lloyd was perfectly polite, but near mute with bashfulness.
"I was just very shy," he says. "I was never anxious to do talk shows as I didn't know what to say. And I don't feel I have any inherent interest." He speaks thoughtfully; his voice generous, humorous, kind. "But as I'm getting older I feel I want to be able to share whatever I know, if it means something to someone."

We’ve been doing Eurovision in Britain for many years now. But with the advent of reality television, what better way to decide who represents the country this year than to put it to a public vote? And that’s what’s happening on BBC One tonight – six acts will perform for our pleasure. Then we vote for the one we like the most. Simples.
Graham ‘I’m doing Eurovision now Wogan’s retired’ Norton is presenting tonight’s show, and last year’s winner Alexander Rybak is performing. So are the latest version of the Sugababes (which now features our last Eurovision entrant, Miss Jade Ewen).
Also here tonight is the mastermind of this year’s Eurovision entry – Pete Waterman, who’s written the song for Britain. Tonight, as a test of their musical mettle, the potential entrants will sing classic Stock, Aiken and Waterman singles. Brilliant! This should be camp as hell tonight,...

The BBC has confirmed that gay comic Graham Norton will be stepping into the sparkly hosting shoes of the Gayest Show on Earth, the Eurovision Song Contest.
Graham takes over for Sir Terry Wogan, who has hosted the show for a whopping 35 years. Last year Wogan notably made critical comments following the poor voter turnout for UK acts this past year, saying that the contest was no longer about music but about who can dial more telephones. Sound familiar, American Idol?
Upon the announcement of his succession, Norton commented, "I can't wait to get to Moscow. With a combination of cheap vodka and a language barrier what could possibly go wrong?" With that attitude (and his trademark razor-sharp wit), the music competition that launched Abba in to the global consciousness just got a much-needed shot in the arse.
