Out of nowhere, a new Lord of the Rings movie was recently announced — and with the most surprising premise, too! The upcoming movie will focus on the person we know as Gollum — but more specifically, on the person he used to be before turning into that nauseating creature. Gollum was once called Smeagol, and it’s his story the movie seeks to finally explore after so many years.
What Will the Gollum Movie Be All About?
Recently, Peter Jackson, Andy Serkis, and Philippa Boyens sat down with Deadline to discuss the unexpected Lord of the Rings prequel. The original trilogy’s team is eager to get back in action, and they gladly revealed what few details have been set in stone so far. The most obvious question is, why make a Gollum movie at all?
“We really want to explore [Gollum’s] backstory and delve into those parts of his journey we...

The question of the creature that fell from the sky, arose after the release of the first promos and trailers for the first season of The Rings of Power.
The sneak peek even showed the meteorite fall scene almost in its entirety: a bright ball of light crossed the entire sky, caught the eyes of all the main characters, and fell in Rhovanion.
There Are Many Hints in The Rings of Power Season 1 that The Stranger is Gandalf
The man was found by two Harfoots, the curious Nori and her more cautious friend Poppy. When the man climbed out of the hole left by the meteorite's fall, several things became clear: he possesses magic, but does not speak any language known to the Harfoots and cannot remember anything, including his name.
The Stranger trusts Nori almost from the first minutes, because she does not act hostile. The girl decides to...

As The Lord of the Rings franchise continues to expand with the upcoming second season of Prime Video series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and two new films in the works centering Gollum, it can’t help revisiting New Line’s original trilogy of films based on Tolkien’s trilogy including The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King.
However, if one wishes to view all existing live-action films in chronological order, the three films based on Tolkien’s The Hobbit — An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies come first in the timeline of Middle Earth. The trilogy based on The Hobbit came out ten years after the original Lord of the Rings films.

After four decades of filmmaking, Renny Harlin isn’t slowing down in the slightest. The journeyman director, who’s most known for Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea and A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, is back on the big screen with The Strangers: Chapter 1, the first film in a trilogy that he’s already shot across 52 days in Slovakia.
Chapter 1 stays true to Bryan Bertino’s 2008 horror classic, The Strangers, only it imagines a scenario where an analogue for Liv Tyler’s character definitively survives the central home invasion, setting up Chapter Two and Three. Madelaine Petsch’s Maya is now filling that protagonist role, as her cross-country road trip to Portland results in her and her boyfriend (Froy Gutierrez’s Ryan) having to stay at a small town Airbnb due to car trouble. That’s when the Strangers crawl out of the woodwork to play their patented cat-and-mouse game.

The production of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films is beyond impressive; a story set in the backdrop of an arid desert landscape will always be a sight to behold. This, however, is not an easy movie to make. Interestingly, the director planned to shoot the movies back-to-back.
Dune (2021)
Of course, it did not get off the ground, and Villeneuve looked at this as a blessing in disguise. Shooting in the hot desert is never a comfortable feeling, much worse if he overexerted himself and the cast and crew.
Denis Villeneuve Was Thankful He Didn’t Go With Original Dune Plan
In an interview with Variety, director Denis Villeneuve confirmed that he originally planned to shoot Dune Part One and Two at the same time.

5 Best Villains from The Lord of the Rings - Main Image
What should have been a nice, simple story of good and evil clashing in The Lord of the Rings has been made far more compelling than it has any right to be, thanks to its memorable cast of villains.
This series of films, adapted from the timeless books by J.R.R. Tolkien, serves as a cautionary tale that details the consequences of absolute corruption. Here is how the best villains from The Lord of the Rings poisoned Middle-Earth with their vile intentions.
5. Grima Wormtongue
If there is one word to describe Grima Wormtongue for a first impression, it is deceptive. This Rohirrim served as King Theoden's adviser when Rohan was vulnerable. Saruman's words and influence came through Wormtongue, which weakened the entire Kingdom of Rohan.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, a prequel to the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy, started airing on Prime Video in 2022. The series got a lot of flak from fans because of poor writing as well as because of the speed at which the story unfolded. Many found it to be lacking because most people were unable to connect with the characters or the story itself.

Both George R.R. Martin and J.R.R. Tolkien have been some of the biggest names in the fantasy genre, each renowned for their extensive literary creations that have sparked beloved TV adaptations and blockbuster movies. Martin has openly expressed his admiration for Tolkien’s work on Middle Earth, a realm teeming with fantastical races, intricate languages, and epic battles.

However, Martin hasn’t shied away from offering critiques of aspects of Middle-Earth that he believes could have been further developed. Although his comments may contest some devoted fans, they highlight a nuanced approach to the realm of fantasy literature.

Showtime has taken to social media this afternoon to announce that “Yellowjackets” Season 3 is officially in production, and they’ve also shared behind the scenes photos from the set.
One of the photos reveals that the “Yellowjackets” Season 3 premiere was written by Jonathan Lisco & Ashley Lyle & Bart Nickerson, with Nickerson seated in the director’s chair.
Lyle & Nickerson created the hit series, while Lisco is the showrunner.
You can check out the social media announcement below.
It’s likely we’ll have to wait until 2025 for Season 3, but we had learned last June that a special bonus episode will come along before the new season premieres. So stay tuned for that.

The first trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 has been debuted (via SFFGazette.com), teasing the ramifications of Sauron's return to Middle-earth.
The Dark Lord is in disguise after sowing discord in the elven kingdom of Eregion by manipulating Celebrimbor into forging the show's titular rings of power. We saw three of them in the season 1 finale, though Sauron still has plenty of work to do: remember, there are seven rings for the Dwarves, nine for mortal men, and his own, secret "One Ring to Rule Them All."
There are plenty of exciting teases throughout this trailer, including a glimpse of the Stranger wielding a wooden staff. While not confirmed, all signs point to him being a young Gandalf and it looks like his story will remain key to The Rings of Power.
Elsewhere, you'll spot Mount Doom, a Great Eagle, and even...

Guillermo del Toro is renowned for the many masterpieces he has created. His artistic prowess has allowed a certain sense of faith that fans find themselves with because of the darker elements he is willing to tap into. As someone who has always found himself liking darker sketches and the scary side of things, exploring the gothic storylines isn’t something the director is afraid of.

The Lord of the Rings books have been long over since they were published in the 1950s. Adaptations upon adaptations came and went by. Prequels and spin-offs were made and fans seemed to receive them all with great anticipation. However, one project, in particular, is yet to be looked at.

However, everything almost fell apart due to the filmmaker’s ambitious vision for the climactic Battle of Helm’s Deep in the 2002 film The Two Towers. The arduous filming process took its toll, not only on the filmmaker himself but also on the cast, including Viggo Mortensen, who later admitted that although he loved the sequence, he hated filming it.

The Lord of the Rings game, Gollum, was… not a hit, to say the least. Our review called it a “waste of your precious time,” and for good reason. So when news came out that more franchise games were in the works, people couldn’t help but feel skeptical.
At least it can’t get any worse, right? That’s what we’d like to think, but many have already condemned the idea to be “trash” or have outright rejected it. Embracer CEO Lee Guinchard seems to have a lot of hope, however, as relayed in a recent interview.

Twenty years ago, Troy and its cast made its mark on epic filmmaking. Director Wolfgang Petersen’s take on Homer’s Iliad featured an ensemble cast led by Brad Pitt and created a wildly entertaining, if not entirely accurate, movie.
Working from a script by future Games of Thrones showrunner David Benioff, the Troy cast brought to life legends like Achilles, Helen of Troy, and Hector. Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, and Diane Kruger were among those who joined Pitt in the impressive cast. While many of the actors haven’t made another film on Troy‘s scale, they continue to perform in blockbuster movies 20 years later.

Today brings us some big news for the most annoying people you know. Seemingly out of nowhere, "The Lord of the Rings" has become a hot commodity once again between the recent announcement of the "Hunt for Gollum" spin-off/prequel movie, this year's upcoming animated effort titled "The War of the Rohirrim," and, of course, the ongoing television show that's caused no controversy or divided opinions whatsoever known as "The Rings of Power."
Set thousands of years prior to the events of "The Fellowship of the Ring" during the period known as the Second Age, season 1 of the wildly expensive streaming series was a solid and enjoyable enough experience that attempted to reach the same heights as Peter Jackson's original trilogy. It may not have become the instant "Game of Thrones"-sized cultural juggernaut that Prime Video was likely hoping for -- it's worth noting that even the hit...

The rings are once more forged in fire for “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2.
The hit Prime Video series, which made history on the streaming platform upon its debut, is welcoming a familiar face back to the Middle-Earth for its second installment. Charlie Vickers is back as the villainous Sauron, but this time, he’s in a new form to deceive those who try to unite the Second Age realm.
After being cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-Earth to his sinister will, the official synopsis teased.

"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is returning later this year with even bigger battles in season 2, but before the new season of the Prime Video series takes us back to Middle-earth, you can head back to the fantasy world yourself, courtesy of Lego.
It's hard to believe that it's been over 20 years since Peter Jackson's unbelievable adaptation of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy hit theaters (which you can celebrate with the extended editions of "Lord of the Rings" returning to theaters in 4K this summer), but here we are, and the fantasy film series is still one of the greatest trilogies of all time. Hugo Weaving’s iconic way of speaking has become synonymous with villainous roles, but the actor is no stranger to playing positive characters, with one notable example being Elron Half-elven. Appearing in all three The Lord of the Rings entries, Weaving played the character to perfection and was lauded by fans and critics for bringing the character’s archaic style of speech to life.
But despite garnering critical acclaim for his portrayal of the noble ruler, Weaving had no interest in stepping into Elrond’s shoes ever again, as he isn’t particularly a fan of the character.

Prime Video has announced that we will get our first look at some footage from the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power tomorrow when the first teaser trailer is released online.
Production has been underway since late 2022 at Bray Studios, just outside London. Season 1 was shot in New Zealand, but the decision was made to change-up location because The UK is "considered more economical and is also where the company is establishing a multi-show hub."
The first season concluded with the reveal that the seemingly benevolent Halbrand was actually Sauron all along. The Dark Lord offered Galadriel the chance to join him once his ruse was discovered, and when she refused, he fled back to the Southlands (soon to be known as Mordor).
It was also heavily implied that "The Stranger" was really Gandalf, but this is yet to be confirmed by actor Daniel Weyman or the showrunners.

Zack Snyder is one of the most prolific filmmakers of today’s age. Having created epics like 300, Army of the Dead, Justice League, and more, the director is known best for creating action-packed, grim tales of adventure that are often characterized by intricate details. Whether it is his independent features or the Snyderverse, Snyder’s movies are a true treat to audiences who love bold and gritty themes.

The Lord of the Rings franchise is a classic lore of good vs evil which follows heroes who embark on a perilous quest to save the world from darkness. It is all thanks to J.R.R. Tolkien’s creativity that curated a detailed world with diverse mythologies. While the novel series gained quite a bit of attention, it is Peter Jackson who put the stories in the cinematic format to reach wider audiences.

Viggo Mortensen will forever be synonymous with his role in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The actor played the role of Aragorn in all three films and was the sworn protector of Frodo and Sam in their journey from the Shire to Mount Doom. The actor won the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast In A Motion Picture for The Return of the King.
While the final film in the trilogy made history for being the first fantasy film to win Best Picture at the Oscars, Mortensen seemed to have a less-than-stellar opinion about the movie. He mentioned how the last two films leaned more towards CGI and visual effects as opposed to the practical effects of The Fellowship of the Ring, which seemed to have carried over to Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy.

It was 1957 when screenwriter Morton Grady Zimmerman approached J.R.R. Tolkien on the subject of creating an animated film out of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The famed British author expressed all of his sentiments and criticisms about the script in a series of letters.

It turns out, he was not fond of the interpretation of his books in the said script. He also accused Zimmerman of never reading the books, only skimming through them, and composing the screenplay based on the fragments he remembered from the novels.
