Professional wrestler, musician, and Terrifier 2 actor Chris Jericho is collaborating with The Walking Dead comic book author Jay Bonansinga on upcoming psychological thriller Self Storage, per Variety.
Based on Bonansinga’s 2016 novel, Self Storage “centers on a heroin-addicted father and his son who accidentally lock themselves inside a self-storage unit. Surviving will depend on a battle with demons both real and manufactured by drug withdrawal.”
“The Walking Dead” and The Devil’s Rejects actor Lew Temple is set to play the lead character, John Fitzgerald.
Bonansinga will direct from his own script.
The film will be executive produced by Jericho’s Babyface Assassin Productions alongside Bonansinga and Jeff Siegel for Delirium Tremens, and Jason Cherubini for Dawn’s Light. Besides executive producing, Jericho will appear in a key supporting role in Self Storage. No additional character details have been announced as of yet, though.

Troma Entertainment’s Lloyd Kaufman is as unique as his studio is independent. Ironic, sarcastic, or provocatively caustic, Uncle Lloyd has got something to say and gets his point across on several levels simultaneously. It’s more economical. The iconic studio is renowned for cult classics like Class of Nuke ‘Em High, Chopper Chicks in Zombietown, and Surf Nazis Must Die, but the low-budget auteur maintained a diverse career of almost 50 years of “reel independence.”
Troma was founded in 1974 by Yale film society buddies Kaufman and Michael Herz. Their movies were produced on tiny budgets and were proudly proclaimed to make only “the most offensive, tasteless films in the history of cinema.” Even the lowest of low budget studios aspire to the highest of standards, and those without any at all shoot for the moon.

I ran across the work of artist Cody Schibi last year during several of the tweet alongs that usually break out during the live airings of The Last Drive-In on Shudder and was immediately drawn to his imaginative work that was filled with so much personality and a horrifying sense of whimsy as well. Schibi will be back to his old tricks when The Last Drive-In returns later this month, but in the meantime, here’s a Q&a to help you get to know this talented artist who is clearly passionate about horror and art—two of my very favorite things.

Tonight, Joe Bob Briggs returns for the Season 2 premiere of The Last Drive-In on Shudder. With so many horror fans staying inside these days, this is the perfect time for the return of the series, and Joe Bob talks special guests, world premieres, and more in our recent interview:
How do you feel about the success that The Last Drive-In has had since it first premiered, and the positive reaction on social media and from people you’ve met at recent conventions?
Joe Bob Briggs: Well, I'm amazed. The good vibes just keep on coming, and more and more people are joining our little group. So I'm very happy with everything that's going on with the show. I'm still not sure exactly why we're so popular because we're using the format that I've used twice before, going back to the ’80s. I think there's a desire for community right now.

Well. This is a surprise. Wrestling superstar Chris Jericho will co-host the season premiere of The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs. On April 24th at 9pm Et Jericho will join Briggs for a screening of a 70s horror flick that features, in Jericho's words, "butt darts, brain sucking, backgammon for digits, a maniacal mini-Oates And a dick dog". Jericho is not saying much in his announcement but more astute horror eficianados knew right away what horror flick he is referring to, Joel M. Reed's 1976 film Bloodsucking Freaks. I think part of the fun is finding out what Briggs has chosen the night of its screening, but this one sounds nasty and dirty. A sadist (Seamus O'Brien) kidnaps young women and...

Mubi's retrospective, The Vulgar Disruptor: Troma Restored, runs March - May, 2020.Illustration by Ethem Onur Bilgiç“To understand Troma, you must first know a bit about Taoism…,” or so says Lloyd Kaufman, president and co-founder of one of the longest running independent film studios, in his 1998 book All I Need to Know About Filmmaking I Learned from The Toxic Avenger. Which may or may not be so. He also says, “Troma films do exactly what low-budget films shouldn’t do. Our films defy genre… We are the Cuisinart of cinema.” Troma Studios was founded in 1974 by Kaufman and Michael Herz. Today, Troma is known for its mutating creatures and graphic violence commingling comedy, science fiction, horror, gore, and sex in films that defy categorization. It wasn’t mutating chickens (Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead) or toxic janitors (The Toxic Avenger 1-4) that first brought Troma success, however, but...

The Catholic Church (and religion in general) always seems to have a hard go of it in horror films. Whether seen as the last respite for the desperate (The Exorcist), or co-conspirators of evil (The Omen), the church has proven to be a wellspring of guilt and mistrust, useful tools for building a great horror tale. Alice, Sweet Alice (1976) is a sinister example of good old Catholic retribution, and the finest American version of a giallo to boot.
The film premiered in November of ’76 at the Chicago International Film Festival under its original title Communion. Columbia Pictures was originally supposed to distribute the film, but legal issues arose and they dropped it. Allied Artists stepped in but demanded a name change so people would not think of it as a religious film (which it is – but probably not the kind people would be expecting), came up with Alice, Sweet Alice...

Released in 1981, Graduation Day has become a favourite of slasher movie fans thanks to its plasma-spurting set pieces, maniacal mystery-killer storyline and a cast of cult celebrities that includes Christopher George (City of the Living Dead), Vanna White (Wheel of Fortune) and the perennially topless Scream Queen Linnea Quigley. All clear? Then, let’s get wading.
Everyone knows that critics are a wretched, bitter cross-section of human sewage, right? In case you’d forgotten, the first few films we encounter provide evidence of these dregs of society finally getting their just desserts.
Vincent Price might be the perfect critic-slayer. Surely there can be no finer way to go than accompanied by a Shakespearian quote in the high-camp dulcet tones of a horror legend. Theatre Of Blood,...

There's no denying that The Green Inferno director Eli Roth is a horror geek among horror geeks. He'd be the first to explain the different versions of Dawn of the Dead. He was the kid who bought Bloodsucking Freaks and Faces of Death when the other kids bought Halloween and Friday the 13th. And he's the one who knows the difference between Mountain of the Cannibal God (Sergio Martino, 1978), Cannibal Holocaust (Ruggero Deodato, 1980), and Cannibal Ferox (Umberto Lenzi, 1981).
So it should come as no surprise to anyone who knows their horror cinema that the director of Hostel has decided to pay homage to a very specific sub-genre: the "clueless idiots wander into the deep jungle" cannibal misadventure. Those who remember those sleazy non-classics with some degree of affection will certainly appreciate what Mr. Roth has cooked up in the foreboding jungles of Peru – although it's difficult to say if the shocking,...

Darren Lynn Bousman has been a busy boy as of late. From his humble beginning doing the follow up to Saw (very humble, right?) to Repo: The Genetic Opera (which I put in my DVD player at least once a month but do not actually watch) to Saw III… Saw IV… 11-11-11… Devil’s Carnival and of course, less we forget that the remake craze is still in full effect, Mother’s Day. We are here to discuss the Blu-Ray release of the remake of the Troma classic hillbilly horror, cringe-fest. We’ll briefly go over my thoughts on the “remake” (because it ain’t a prequel) and then we’ll get into the combo packagey-goodness.
For the uninitiated, Mother’s Day was an early Troma release directed by the brother of one of Troma’s founders Lloyd Kaufman, Charles Kaufman. It’s the mother knows best, backwoods torture...

Before there was such horror spoofs as Scary Movie starring Anna Faris. Before there was such self referential horror films such as Scream from director Wes Craven. After there was Student Bodies. There was Rolfe Kanefsky's independent horror spoof of "There's Nothing Out There". There's Nothing Out There arrives to DVD today in a 20th Anniversary Edition courtesy of Troma Team Video. There's Nothing Out There went virtually ignored when it first came out, but over the years this trend setting film has went on to find an audience with multiple DVD and video releases over the years. There's Nothing Out There is a criminally underrated film that is still attracting a slow, but surely following. What was especially noteworthy about There's Nothing Out There was the fact that it featured a character who had seen every horror film there was out there and realizes that the actions that...

Considering the two odd names that topline this project, you may be wondering what is this movie about? Enter director-actor-writer-producer Kevin Orosz.
"Blood Lodge is like Zombieland meets Dazed and Confused mixed with the 1970s grindhouse movies," Orosz told ShoreNewsToday (via Avn). "A zombie attack happens in the fictional town of Ten Acres while a group of friends travel for a ski weekend. The group unites with other guests staying at the Ten Acres Lodge and tries to stay alive by fighting the zombies."

Rarely does the title of a film alone make us want to see it, but it does happen. For instance, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Nail Gun Massacre, Blood Sucking Freaks, and of course The Toolbox Murders. Yep, a good name can immediately make a horror fan's eyes open wide. Such is the case with Big Tits Zombie in 3D.

This month sees the release of A Nightmare on Elm Street, a remake that’s been a long time coming. With so many slasher revivals going on, be they remakes or original properties, it’s important now to look back on the genre and learn a few of its intricacies. The wealth of material to cover is staggering. The films that follow do not necessarily represent the finest work the genre has to offer, but were selected for their uniqueness and appeal.
If any of these tickle your fancy, I've included some Amazon links to buy the ones that are still in print. Unless otherwise noted, all of these releases present the films in their original aspect ratio and in their most complete versions available to date.
[Note: While extensive measures have been taken to eliminate graphic details in deconstructing the films, trailers and clips have been provided wherever applicable. They can at times be exceedingly violent, and quite spoiler-heavy. We urge you to use judgment before viewing them. Thank you.]
Inferno (IMDb)
1980, Dario Argento
The core difference between director Dario Argento’s celebrated Suspiria and its overlooked follow-up, Inferno, is simple: Inferno hates you.
