After Goodnight is locked in the boot of the car she tells Bond where she is, Bond and Hip go to their car as Scaramanga drives past them, they then discover that the have not got the car keys and Goodnight tells them (on the radio) that she has it a passage of time lasting many seconds,Bond and Hip then get out of the car to see that the car which Goodnight is in has only moved a couple of feet.
When Nick Nack is at his console watching Scaramanga in his 'Funhouse' he has screens showing different sections of it. When we see the cameras they are all panning constantly from side to side. However, all the shots on Nick Nack's screens are static shots of one angle.
Scaramanga tells Bond that only two live on his island (himself and Nick Nack), but shortly afterwards he points out the technician who runs the power plant, meaning there are actually three full-time residents.
When J.W. Pepper falls into the river, the position and contents of the boats either side of him change.
When Bond is chasing Scaramanga through the streets of Bangkok, there is a scene in which they pass a cab driver in a 1955 Plymouth sedan. When the cab driver runs off the road and rolls his car over, it has changed to a 1955 Cheverolet Bel-Air.
JW Pepper identifies himself as "Sheriff JW Pepper of the Louisiana State Police". In Louisiana, as in other states, the Sheriff's Department & the State Police are two completely different police forces, and there is no "Sheriff" in the State Police. The Sheriff is an elected official responsible for a parish (county) whereas the State Police are responsible for the entire state.
Absolute zero cannot be "maintained" since it has never been "reached". Even if that were permissible in the movie, it wouldn't require a man's body temperature to raise it, as the temperature of the surrounding air would already have done the trick.
Gold, especially pure gold, is a very soft metal which is damaged easily. It's hard to imagine a worse material to use as bullet casing which requires a very robust metal to withstand the explosion of the gunpowder used to propel it.
After Bond misses the target Lazar claims the rifle is balanced for a hand missing two fingers. The rifle is attached to a post removing any such effect.
The Republic RC-3 Seabee seaplane has a registration number that begins with a
N, signifying it is registered in the United States.
It is said during the duel that the Golden Gun can fire only one bullet, yet at the beginning of the movie Scaramanga shoots the fingers off of the Bond dummy using multiple bullets. That's because he's using his dead opponent's gun.
The tilted angle of the Queen Elizabeth as seen from the outside is different than from the inside. This isn't properly an error, as the fire that destroyed the ship could have caused support members to melt, creating different angles to assorted decks.
During the opening carnival house duel, both arms fall off of the Al Capone wax dummy despite the fact that he only shot one bullet. As 'Al' was cradling a 1928 Thompson 'Tommy-gun', a tug from one arm and the weapon could have pulled the other arm off of the mannequin.
Rodney's silenced pistol appears to fire about 10 shots without reloading. However, Rodney is not seen in every second of his hunt, so it's likely he unseeingly reloaded the gun with a magazine.
At the dinner following Bond's arrival on the island, the golden gun parts are shown disassembled next to Scaramanga's dinner plate, in the following two scenes Bond and Scaramanga are briefly shown talking and neither is doing anything with their hands, but in the next scene Scaramanga suddenly levels a fully-assembled golden gun at Bond, without having even assembled the parts.
That's not true. When Bond doesn't react the way Scaramanga expected or hoped, you can clearly see, that he takes the Parts for the Golden Gun from the Table and starts to combine the Parts, without Bond noticing. When Bond grabs for his Walther, Scaramanga reveals his Golden Gun, just built under the Table.
Even though it is supposed to be a wax dummy, you can clearly see Al Capone blink his eyes when he fires the gun. Also, his movements are way too human-like to be a dummy.
During the opening sequence where Scaramanga has just shot the henchman, if you speed up the frames you can clearly see that the James Bond "dummy" is actually Roger Moore himself as he is naturally shaking attempting to keep his balance. Also, the position of his hands and fingers change frame by frame: in the first shot his hand is low and fingers in a fist shape. Next (when Scaramanga shoots the fingers) they are open and his hand is higher.
The writers clearly seem unaware of some aspects of Asian culture. Both Bond and Scaramanga refer to Hai Fat as "Mr. Fat." Surely the two men are worldly enough to know that in many East Asian countries, the surname comes first; therefore, they should have said "Mr. Hai." Also, Hip says his brother runs a karate school; karate is Japanese, not Thai. While it is not impossible that someone might run a karate school in Bangkok, it seems far more likely that the writers just assumed that all martial arts forms come from some nebulous place called "Asia."
When Bond and Nick Nack are fighting in the junk's bedroom, Nick Nack throws several sealed, unopened wine bottles at Bond, which he smashes to pieces with a broken chair. However, each smashed wine bottle is empty - not a drop was spilled.
When Andrea opens the shower door a flesh-colored pad covering her breasts is visible under the towel.
All cars used for the stunts in the car chase through Bangkok have the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car. Thai cars have the driver sitting right due to their left-side driving.
Apparently, Mary Goodnight cannot read. Not only did she take no notice of the large warning sign about maintaining absolute zero and pushed the attendant into a cooling vat, but when Bond is attempting to remove the Solex device from the core of the machine and asks her to find the scanner interlock button on the console and push it, she looks at the console, and as her finger traces the printed words "computer control lock-in" she simultaneously says, "Computer interlock."
On Scaramanga's island, there is no gate on the stairway landing right above the coolant that could cause the island to be destroyed if something falls into it.
After being arrested in Kowloon Bond is taken to a boat and told he is being taken "Kowloon-side". This conversation is correct given that it takes place next to the Star Ferry Terminal in Central (ie the Hong Kong side of the harbour). However Bond should have been surprised that he had been taken all the way across the harbour from Kowloon to Hong Kong only to go back across (especially as the boat would presumably be slower than a car).
At 1:34:39 when flying to Scaramanga's Island Roger Moore has a large fly on his left arm.
When we first meet the two karate schoolgirls (Hip's nieces) in the back of the car, they are supposed to be carrying on a conversation, but the audio track simply repeats three times the following two sentences in Mandarin Chinese (spoken presumably by the two girls): "How are you?" and "That's what I think". Of the two actresses, only Qiu Yuen is Chinese; Joie Vejjajiva is Thai.
When Bond lets Goodnight out of the hotel closet, she asks what time it is. On the audio track of the MGM US VHS, Bond answers "two-ish" and Goodnight replies "Two?", but their lips each appear to say "twelve".
When Scaramanga shoots the fingers off the statue/dummy of Bond, only three shots are heard, and Scaramanga can only be seen to fire three times, but all four fingers are shot off. In addition, only two fingers are seen shot off in the view from behind the statue/dummy before the angle changes, but a third finger is already missing after cutting to a close-up of the hand, before the fourth finger is then shot off.
During the fight in Beirut a bumped mirror shows a camera man, someone standing over the camera, and studio lighting. (This is noted in the commentary on the re-release DVD. It could have been corrected when the film was remastered, but they decided to leave it in.)
A crew member is visible in the large mirror as Bond walks across the bathroom to hand Andrea her robe.
When Bond gets ready for the jump over the water in the car, a light along with the light guy on a ladder is seen in the car window.
In the establishing shot of Hai Fat's hillside house, patches of light dart about on the ornate arch/frontage. This is from hand-held reflective panels, held by crew members out of sight (off the bottom corners of the image), who are trying to give the booklet guards some light/contrast on their faces.
007 goes into a bathroom, a girl opens the shower door, points a gun at him and tells him to pass her a robe. As he advances to give it to her he passes a mirror which shows a reflection of a man's head.
Scaramanga's island is supposedly in Chinese waters but the map Bond consults shows only islands with (fictitious) Thai names.
Hai Fat's home is supposedly in Bangkok, but it's located high on a lush hillside. There are no such hills in the vicinity of Bangkok.
The flying car is supposedly found "200 miles west of Bangkok", which would put it somewhere off the coast of Burma. Also, the island they are head for is said to be about eight hours' sail from Hong Kong, at least 1,000 miles from Bangkok in the other direction.
After the Bottoms Up Club scene, Lieutenant Hip tells Bond that they are going to "Kowloon side." He then says "We're going to the New Territories" as they ride the boat across Victoria Harbor. But the Bottoms Up Club is actually located in Kowloon, and Kowloon is part of the New Territories.
Bond is attacked by two Sumo Wrestlers at Hai Fat's compound. Sumo wrestlers are found in Japan, not Thailand.
At the end of the film, 'M' calls Bond on the telephone on Scaramanga's junk. Although MI6 might have discovered the phone number somehow, there's no way 'M' could know that Bond would be on the boat.
James Bond's identity and status within the British Secret Service are known by too many non-privileged people in this movie. The gun-maker even says that "your reputation precedes you". In a realistic spy service, an agent who attracted this kind of specific attention would be considered to have "blown his cover." Unsurprisingly, all this fame somehow does not constitute a problem for Bond.
The lieutenant and his nieces go to where Bond is being held at the karate school for the express purpose of rescuing him and after fighting off his captures they drive off leaving him there, some rescue.
Scaramanga seeks the Solex Agitator, a device needed to run his island hideout. However, his island is powered before attaining it. Additionally, he would have had to construct an elaborate yet inoperable solar energy facility under the pretense that the missing piece will soon be invented, putting the buggy before the horse, akin to creating a nuclear reactor before discovering uranium.
James Bond travels all the way to Beirut to track down the golden bullet that Scaramanga used to kill Fairbanks (Agent 002) which is then analysed to deduce it was made by Lazar. However they already have the golden bullet that has been sent (supposedly) from Scaramanga which would have saved the journey.
When the ballistics expert examines the bullet, he declares the mass to be 20.53 grams (316 grains). Even though 23 carat gold is somewhat denser (1.67:1) than the lead alloy used in modern arms, this is still almost thirteen times as massive as the largest 17 caliber bullets manufactured (25 grains). It would look more like a thick needle than a bullet, being nearly two and three quarters inches in length and would be nearly impossible to stabilize.
When Bond adopts a third nipple "disguise" in order to appear as Scaramanga to Hai Fat, his extra nipple is in an anatomically unlikely location. Extra nipples are usually found in the "milk line," which runs vertically from the armpit, through the normal nipple to the groin crease. Bond places his extra nipple medial to his normal one - which is very unlikely, though verified cases have occurred as far away as the foot.
The sign adjacent to the liquid helium tanks reads "Absolute zero must be maintained, to prevent prompt criticality". First, absolute zero can not be attained, due to the uncertainty principle. It can only be approached. (Liquid Helium exists around 4 degrees above absolute zero, or 4 Kelvin). Second, "prompt criticality" is a nuclear engineering term which refers to a (usually unstable) condition where a fission chain reaction is sustained via prompt neutrons alone. Aside from specially designed research reactors, this condition only occurs in nuclear weapons or criticality accidents (most notable being the 1986 Chernobyl-4 disaster).
When Bond goes to Macau to see Lazar, he approaches an Asian woman and two children and asks where Lazar is, holding a piece of paper and saying it slowly indicating that he does not know how to speak their language. However, in the film You Only Live Twice (1967), Bond tells Moneypenny that he took a first in Oriental languages at Cambridge.
The liner Queen Elizabeth sank in the Hong Kong harbor on 9 January 1972, not in 1971.
