‘X-Men ’97’ was a breath of fresh air on Disney+. The continuation of the original animated series drew many fans back to the platform after the disappointment of ‘The Marvels.’
Combining nostalgia with excellent storytelling, the episodes kept us entertained for weeks, even though the plot moved quickly.
The hashtag ‘X-Men ’97’ trended for weeks, with social media buzzing with theories and discussions, primarily sparked by showrunner Beau DeMayo. The overwhelmingly positive reaction led to the confirmation of at least two additional seasons, with rumors suggesting the show could continue indefinitely.
However, the viewership numbers tell a different story. It seems that only die-hard fans of the original animated series and the X-Men team were drawn to this project.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 is on the way. A recent blog post from author, series co-creator, and executive producer Rick Riordan reveals that they aim to have started filming Season 2 by this fall, and there are more production updates where that came from. Percy Jackson and the Olympians stars Walker Scobell as the titular demigod, the pre-teen son of human Sally Jackson (Virginia Kull) and Olympian god Poseidon (Toby Stephens). When Percy learns of his mythical abilities, he’s sent to Camp Half-Blood for protection with the help of his best friend/satyr protector, Grover (Aryan Simhadri). It’s at this training ground and demigod safe haven that Percy learns his favorite teacher, Mr. Brunner (Glynn Turman), is actually a centaur named Chiron, trainer of demigods. When Percy is accused of stealing his Uncle Zeus’ (the late Lance Reddick) master bolt, Percy embarks on a quest across the country to prove his innocence.

Adapted from Georgia Hunter‘s 2017 book of the same, the story follows the Kurcs, a Polish Jewish family torn apart by WWII. A Variety cover story about the future of "Star Trek" includes plenty of exciting updates about the future of the series, but it's also just a trivia treasure trove for "Trek" fans -- including the ones who work on the shows. "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" stars Anson Mount and Ethan Peck both noted how surreal their jobs are, while Mount also revealed that they get to go to work on a set named after part of a starship.
"Sometimes we call it The Holodeck," Mount told Variety when describing the massive augmented reality walls (similar to those used by Industrial Light & Magic's The Volume) that turn the set into a virtual-physical hybrid space. Variety's Adam B. Vary observed that Mount "[couldn't] help but break into a boyish grin" when he talked about the Ar walls they call The Holodeck, as if it's yet another childhood dream come true. Logan Lerman and Joey King star in the Hulu series, We Were The Lucky Ones, based on the book of the same name by Georgia Hunter. The series and book explore the dramatized version of how siblings Addy and Halina, the former of whom is Hunter’s grandfather, survived the Holocaust. While promoting the series on the red carpet of its premiere at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles, Lerman shared that the story drew him because it was a ‘real’ Holocaust story.

Logan Lerman, best known for the Percy Jackson film series, began acting in commercials when he was young and made his film debut in 2000 with the movie The Patriot. After starring in several movies, he decided he needed a break in the early 2000s and would return to the industry when he was 12. In 2004, he was cast in one of the two titular roles in the TV series Jack & Bobby.
Logan Lerman in Hunters
By the time he was cast as the titular character in the 2009 movie Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, he had appeared in numerous projects and won three Young Artist Awards. The movies have been criticized for deviating from the source material for years. With the release of the new Disney+ series, fans were hoping to have those mistakes corrected. However, Lerman’s recent words have drawn a surprisingly new reaction from them.

Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” notably features the acting return of Christoper Walken, who hasn’t been seen on the big screen in four years. The Oscar winner had a trio of films released in 2020 and then went on a hiatus from moviemaking (he did show up in the 2022 television series “Severance.”) Now, he joins “Dune: Part Two” as Shaddam IV, aka the Padishah Emperor of the Known Universe.
Why did Walken decide to make “Dune: Part Two” his comeback? It’s a question Vanity Fair asked the Oscar winner in a new interview, to which Walken responded: “I had, of course, seen the first ‘Dune’ a number of times. From the beginning, Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+ was promised to be a faithful adaptation of Rick Riordan's books — and, for the most part, Season 1 succeeded in doing this.
Of course, the first season of the show is not 100% entirely and completely identical to The Lightning Thief (the first of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians novels). In fact, several key story elements were added or changed.
Season 1 allowed the Medusa sequence to reflect the more mature elements of her myth, Grover saw brand new lore added, and multiple episodes included brand new flashbacks to Percy's childhood.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has just about the perfect cast for each and every comic book character they have brought to life. Yet that does not mean that the ‘perfect actors’ would want to continue playing their roles forever (clue Dave Bautista as Drax) and for someone like Brie Larson, who delivered Marvel’s first true bomb in years, the actress must certainly be looking to move outside the realms of the MCU.

While Disney has been on something of a cancellation spree of late with its live-action, family friendly shows, there is at least good news if you were a fan of the series adaptation of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson And The Olympians books. Based on the viewing figures, plenty of people were, and the company has handed down a season 2 renewal from its corporate Mount Olympus (Mouse Olympus? We'll see ourselves out quietly).

"Percy Jackson and the Olympians," the second attempt at adapting the popular book series by Rick Riordan, is taking one step closer to being able to tell its complete story. Nick Saban, who ended his high-profile run as head football coach at the University of Alabama last month, is headed to ESPN.
The championship-winning coach will become a regular on the network’s popular show College GameDay and is also slated to appear elsewhere on ESPN, including on coverage of the NFL Draft this spring.
Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the Saban signing and a slew of other news during the company’s fiscal first quarter earnings call.
Saban, 72, is already a recognizable figure on ESPN, whether in interviews, documentary programming or in commercials for insurance firm Aflac. Prior to Alabama, Saban coached at Toledo and Michigan State before winning a national title at Lsu, but he is best known for capturing six more titles in a 16-year run at Alabama. He has come to be seen as essentially college football’s version of NFL coach Bill Belichick. Strikingly, both...

Disney Boss Bob Iger announced today that Moana 2 is coming out as a feature — this November. Iger exclaimed the news in a CNBC interview before the studio’s Q1 earnings on how the studio was turning a Moana TV series into a feature sequel. This despite the fact that a live-action version with Dwayne Johnson reprising his role of Maui from the original 2016 film is also planned for a theatrical release on June 27, 2025.
Note, Disney books the Thanksgiving five-day Wednesday-Sunday stretch with an animated movie annually. It always had a November 27 release date set for a toon feature.
“Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise,” said Iger, “and we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when Moana 2 comes to theaters this November.”

Disney’s profit blew away forecasts although revenue fell a bit short in a key, and solid, earnings report that the company hopes will set the stage for more robust growth.
Revenue was flat at $23.5 billion for Disney’s fiscal first quarter ended in December. Diluted Eps (excluding some items) was $1.22, up 23% from the year before.
Streaming losses narrowed by $300 million from the prior quarter and will be profitable in the fourth quarter of its fiscal 2024 (ending in September). Disney had previously promised profits sometime this year but a confirmation was very welcome.

Together Films has acquired the worldwide rights to “An Army of Women,” which will have its world premiere at South by Southwest in March.
The feature documentary, directed by Julie Lunde Lillesæter, follows a group of women in Austin, Texas, who join together to help build a movement of plaintiffs legally challenging the system that allowed their rapists to walk free.
“We believe ‘An Army of Women’ presents a compelling opportunity for major streamers and buyers. This unprecedented story shows that through resilience and solidarity, the systems that fail us can be changed. Our hope is that this can be a catalyst for change for the rest of the US, and that global audiences will be left with the same optimism and fighting spirit that drives the women in our film,” Lillesæter said in a statement.

In a couple of months, it will be a year since we lost the late, great Lance Reddick. His passing was a shock as it came so suddenly, and at a time where he had incredible works on the horizon. We haven’t even seen the last of his work as he’s due to make a cameo appearance as his John Wick character, Charon, in the spin-off Ballerina. He can recently be seen in the Disney+ show, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, where he fittingly portrays the Greek God, Zeus. Reddick would finish filming the first season just before his untimely passing.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians would finally premiere on Disney+, and the season finale featured an epic conflict with Zeus on the top of Mount Olympus. Deadline reports that the show would pay tribute to the late actor by closing out with a title card that read,...

Note: Spoilers ahead for the Season 1 finale of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”
The traitor of Percy Jackson’s first prophecy has finally been revealed and, though it obviously didn’t shock those who read the books, it certainly shocked Annabeth Chase on screen. And Charlie Bushnell, who plays the traitor himself, is definitely excited for what a proper confrontation between the two might look like.
In the season finale of the Disney+ series, now streaming, Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) and his friends return to camp, ready to rat out Clarisse (Dior Goodjohn) as the traitor, after they figure that Ares (Adam Copeland) would only protect one of his own children.
But, as it turns out, the traitor is really Luke (Bushnell). He gave Percy the winged shoes hoping that they’d drag him down to Tartarus and straight to Kronos. Luke didn’t anticipate Percy giving the shoes to Grover (Aryan Simhadri). So,...

Blondie lead vocalist Debbie Harry opened up about her film career at International Film Festival Rotterdam.
“I am not really fluent in the film industry, but I have been fortunate to get scripts from the directors I admire and trust, and who scare me a little. It’s a small selection of interesting films that are a bit odd. I guess my oddness fits into that.”
Nothing was odder than David Cronenberg’s “Videodrome.”
“We didn’t know what ‘virtual’ was. We had no term [for it] back then. We didn’t know what my character was, but we knew who she was and what she was doing to others. I think Jimmy Woods had more of a problem with it than me. Let’s face it: Cronenberg is out there and always has been,” she said.
“There was no ending to the film and some people were getting pretty uptight about it.

Exclusive: BET+ has ordered a New Orleans-set spinoff of Carl Weber’s The Family Business, with Brandon T. Jackson set to star.
He also will serve as an associate producer on the eight-episode series, which is set to begin production in March.
Based on Weber’s bestselling crime drama book series, which wrapped its fourth season in October 2022, The Family Business follows the Duncans, an upstanding, tight-knit family led by L.C. Duncan (Ernie Hudson) that by day owns and operates an exotic car dealership in New York. By night, their business activities are more illicit in nature.
In the spinoff, when the New Orleans side of the Duncan family gets caught in a vicious turf war with corrupt politicians, dirty land developers, and ruthless crime bosses all vying for the family’s underground casino and night club business, they call on their relatives from New York to help wield their own brand of justice.

Exclusive: Percy Jackson and the Olympians is firing on all cylinders for Disney+.
The premiere episode of the streamer’s original series, based on the books by Rick Riordan, has now amassed 26.2M views in its first three weeks on Disney+ and Hulu, according to the company. That’s double the viewership it managed in its first week.
Disney says that all five available episodes have surpassed 10M views in their first week on the platform, which seems to stay in line with the premiere’s initial viewership, though some decline is very usual and expected as the season progresses.
The company defines a view as hours viewed divided by runtime, similar to Netflix’s calculation.
Nielsen data for Percy Jackson and the Olympians could be available as early as Thursday, if the first two episodes manage to make it into the streaming top 10 in their first week on the service.

Much like its predecessor, this week leaves audiences craving that elusive spark of innovation in the ever-evolving landscape of cinematic offerings. A notable absence of animated content is a stark reality, but fear not, for the enigmatic allure of mystery thrillers takes center stage. Amidst the somewhat lackluster releases, Sky Cinema treats us to a comedic escape with “Arthur’s Whisky,” a film exclusively available through subscription. At the same time, the rest of the streaming lineup demands a commitment of a different kind – the decision to purchase or rent.
However, before the disappointment, let’s pivot to the silver lining in serialized storytelling. Netflix beckons us with the binge-worthy allure of “Fool Me Once,” offering a glimmer of hope amid the scarcity. Meanwhile, stalwarts like “Fargo” and “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” continue to grace our screens with fresh episodes,...
