At the beginning, Spiros (Chuck McCann) breaks the window of a bakery and paws at a faux wedding cake, wiping away the frosting on the upper tier and exposing the dark façade beneath. After the police take Spiros away, his friend John Singer (Alan Arkin) inspects the damage his friend did, and the cake appears miraculously restored-all frosting is intact.
When Mick and Harry lay down on the sand by the river, Mick is above and apart from Harry. In the next closeup shot, their heads and shoulders are even and almost touching.
In the first appearance of the chessboard it is set up incorrectly; a white square is at John's lower left where a black square should be. Also, the board is a foldable one with the seam visible vertically, rather than appropriately horizontally, from John's perspective.
The Sunny Dixie Carnival is supposedly taking place on a warm summer night judging from characters' lightweight costumes, but actors' frosty breath can be seen in a number of shots.
When Dr. Copeland goes in to see Judge Bronson. he enters via a swinging door with a glass panel in it. A member of the camera crew is reflected in the glass as it swings shut.
