Before Marvel Comics' "Spider-Man" made his debut in "Amazing Fantasy" #15 (1962), the first masked 'Spider' crime-fighter was 'The Spider', created in 1933 by Harry Steeger at Popular Publications now controlled by Steeger Properties, LLC amassing thousands of pulp magazine stories for licensing in all media, including film and TV adaptations:
Cover artists for "The Spider" magazine, publishing monthly from 1933 to 1943, included Walter M. Baumhofer for the debut issue, followed by John Newton Howitt and Rafael De Soto.
'The Spider' was millionaire playboy 'Richard Wentworth', a former 'Major' now living in New York City, as the last surviving member of a rich family.
His earliest costume was a black domino mask, black hat and cape. Later he added vampire-like makeup, followed by a face mask with grizzled hair and a 'hunchback' added to terrorize the criminal underworld with The Spider's brand of violent vigilante justice.

Tyler Perry is Variety‘s 2020 Showman of the Year. For the full cover story, click here.
Oscar Micheaux, the pioneering Black filmmaker who wrote, directed and produced movies from 1919 through 1948, was a one-man studio — the Tyler Perry of his day. And like Perry, he had to overcome overwhelming odds, systemic racism and many other obstacles to make sure his work was funded and distributed. As Perry tells Variety, “Had it not been for an Oscar Micheaux, there certainly couldn’t be a Tyler Perry.”
So it’s fitting that Perry is planning a biopic for HBO on the 20th-century film pioneer. He says the wheels of development are slow on the project, but “it’s moving forward. Our lives are parallel in so many ways — the way he wrote his books, told his stories, carried his own films to different theaters, and just his tenacity and his believing and investing in himself,...

Al Adamson: The Masterpiece Collection
Blu ray
Severin Films
1965 – 1989 / 2841 min.
Starring Russ Tamblyn, Regina Carrol, Lon Chaney
Cinematography by Gary Graver, Vilmos Zsigmond, László Kovács
Directed by Al Adamson, David Gregory
The titles grab you by the collar like a desperate carny barker – Psycho A Go-Go, Blood of Ghastly Horror, Satan’s Sadists – then something for the raincoat crowd – Girls For Rent, Nurses For Sale, The Naughty Stewardesses. The rant turns political, incendiary: Black Heat, Mean Mother, Black Samurai. His last gasp – Cinderella 2000, Nurse Sherri, The Happy Hobo. The Happy Hobo?
Al Adamson: The Masterpiece Collection is an alarming new release from Severin Films presenting 32 of the director’s misbegotten “masterpieces” in beautifully restored transfers with enough added attractions to choke a horse. It’s the story of one man’s twenty year run in exploitation cinema that may be too exhausting for the casual viewer to contemplate. But...

Don’t call them Bad Movies — when something’s this enjoyable, other verbal put-downs are more appropriate. This low-grade German sexploitation horror pic spent its full budget on its roster of frisky Berlin showgirls. After years of study, experts have finally proven that it was filmed with a camera. Severin’s special edition does justice to a cult non-classic with an uncut original German version, plus a second American version and extra alternate scenes. Alexander D’Arcy’s scary horror-face is a childhood monster magazine memory. The creepy title critter looks like a land crab morphed with a really pissed-off Woody Woodpecker.

I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! stars Edwina Currie and Jake Quickenden got to play dress-up during the latest Dingo Dollar challenge.
The pair took on the roles of spider and a Venus fly trap in an insect-collecting mini-task.
"A hungry venus fly trap, is waiting way up high, for its favourite tasty snack, a pesky jungle fly," Jake read aloud.
"The spider's web is holding, the plants beloved stash, throw them up to feed the trap, to win the precious cash."
Edwina began to unbutton her shirt, much to the surprise of Jake, who asked her if she was stripping already.
"You've got to do something for the show, haven't you?" the former MP joked.
Having spotted the costumes, the two then tried to decide who would make a better thrower (spider) and who was better at catching (the fly trap).
"Well you know spiders, the female...
