- The full list of differences between the 83-minute original cut and the 80-minute AIP cut:
- A different English-language dub, and a new score by Les Baxter.
- An added pre-text crawl warning the audience about the film's content: "The producers of the picture you are about to see feel a moral obligation to warn you that it will shock you as no other film ever has. Because it could be very harmful to young and impressionable minds, it is restricted to only those over fourteen years of age."
- Alternate opening credits.

- Kruvajan's death scene is cut down significantly to remove shots of his eye spurting blood.
- The scene were Prince Vajda reanimates and menaces Katja is trimmed.
- Vajda's death scene, particularly the close-ups of his head melting, is trimmed.

- The film was initially rejected for cinema in 1961 by the BBFC and passed 7 years later with cuts as "Revenge of the Vampire". The initial video release by Stablecane in 1986 (as "Black Sunday") featured the shorter re-edited U.S print which was missing around 3 mins of violence including cuts to the burning of Vajda, the eye gouging, and the infamous mask/branding scene plus some character changes (Javuto became Asa's servant in the US version). The U.K. version from Redemption Video (titled "The Mask of Satan") is the original, uncut, English-language version prepared by the producers. It contains the original music score, more mature dubbing, and contains violence edited from the U.S. version. It is also letterboxed.
- La Maschera del Demonio in its Italian form has been shown on Italian television. This is the only complete, uncut version of the film which includes a scene between Ivo Garrani & Barbara Steele in an outdoor setting.
- This film has been shown in the United States in four (five counting the TV version) different versions.
- BLACK SUNDAY (84 minutes): Distributed by American International Pictures. This U.S. version features a more dramatic dubbing job recorded in the U.S. (which changes some character names) and a new score by Les Baxter to replace the original score. It also trims several scenes of violence and dialogue. Further edits to this version were used to create the 16mm U.S. television syndication version.
- REVENGE OF THE VAMPIRE: The long delayed British version is a different cut that features the original English-language dubbing recorded in Italy and the original Italian score by Roberto Nicolosi.
- THE MASK OF SATAN (87 minutes): The complete version of the film featuring the original English language dubbing recorded in Italy and the original Italian score by Roberto Nicolosi. This is usually referred to as the "European Version."
- LA MASCHERA DEL DEMONIO (85 minutes): Not the original Italian version as you might expect from the title. The main title is video generated (in bright red) and superimposed over the black and white film. The film uses the original English language dubbing recored in Italy. The score is a mixture of both the original Italian (Roberto Nicolosi) and U. S. (Les Baxter) scores.
