Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese have collaborated 6 times over the years. The director-actor duo have never repeated themselves and have constantly worked on reinventing themselves each time. From historical epics, crime dramas, to psychological thrillers, the two have become the ideal pairing that can do no wrong.
Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street
One of their wild collaborations was the 2013 biographical black comedy film The Wolf of Wall Street. One of the craziest scenes from the film was a lion casually walking through the Stratton Oakmont firm in the presence of office workers. While Scorsese did use a real lion and real people for the scene, a brilliant strategy was used to seamlessly blend them together.

Iron Maiden has been rocking it out hard ever since their ‘The Future Past Tour 2023’ took off to a strong start. But as the tour goes on, the band has set Europe ablaze with power packed performances taking place all the way from Czech Republic to Italy.
Just last week the band concluded their Venice concert, and are now in Spain as they finished their concert in Barcelona, leaving their fans awe struck with metal spirit.
Taking to Instagram, the band thanked their fans at Barcelona and captioned: “Thank you, Barcelona!”
The concert ended on the night of July 18 (local time) complete with much theatricality, and filling out the stadiums the moment they announced their concert, the tickets began selling out faster than hot cakes.

Following on from the success of shows such as The Last Czars and African Queens, the streamer has over the past year been developing a big-budget retelling of the life of one of world history’s most notorious figures, which currently has a working title of Alexander the Great.
A crew of more than 100 people have been filming on-and-off in Morocco since last summer on the hybrid docudrama, which will feature both documentary and scripted elements. British indies Tailfeather Productions and Lion TV are attached the series and Tony Mitchell (Miss America) is showrunner, we understand.

Blonde has been “honored” with two Golden Raspberry Awards — aka the Razzies — which also bestowed an award upon themselves for the first time in the group’s history.
Andrew Dominik’s film, which led the Razzies with eight nominations, won worst picture of the year along with worst screenplay for Dominik. The Razzies called the film “misogynistic, salacious and fallacious” and said it “shamelessly exploits the memory of the late Marilyn Monroe.”
The Razzie Awards, which honor the worst of the year, are announced annually ahead of the Oscars ceremony, which takes place Sunday. Incidentally, Blonde star Ana de Armas is up for best actress in a leading role at the 2023 Academy Awards.
Razzie organizers also chastised themselves for nominating 12-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong as worst actress of the year. After being “put through the cyberworld blender,” as they put it, they subsequently removed her from the ballot and announced...

Putting together a list of the Top 20 episodes of Red Dwarf presented an unusual challenge. The truth is, there’s barely a bum note in the first 36 episodes (Series I – VI) and then it’s a case of finding the quality episodes among the less successful half hours in the following 31 (Series VII – XI). The most accurate ‘top 20’ would be composed almost entirely of episodes from those first 36. However, for this list, we’ve resisted the urge to simply list most of the first six series and have deliberately ensured that this selection covers a reasonable span of the show, with every series except IX represented somewhere. This way, we can offer a more balanced overview of the whole history of the show, and...

Salt and FireDear Danny,Funny you mention genre, as A Quiet Passion would seem to belong to my least favorite one: the biopic. Or not really, for directors create their own genres, great ones do, and Terence Davies is among the greatest now at work. His Emily Dickinson, splendidly embodied by Cynthia Nixon, is no genteel figurine reciting favorite verses but a sharp and unyielding intelligence twisting in a severe body and a severe era. Right from the start, refusing to move to one side or another when her seminary is divided according to faith, she will not give an inch. (“You are alone in your rebellion,” snaps the headmistress, crucifix looming in the background.) At her Massachusetts family home, words—not just the budding poetess’ stanzas, but bon mots, barbs, any curlicues of witty verbiage—are cherished cracks in staid domesticity, like the songs in Meet Me in St. Louis.

Occasioned by the release of his internet documentary “Lo and Behold, Reveries of the Connected World” this week, Werner Herzog made an appearance on Marc Maron’s “Wtf” podcast. The interview was typically insightful, strange and humorous in the way that only Herzog can be, with 10 ecstatic truths emerging as especially noteworthy:
The last thing he read was an obscure historian from Greek antiquity, because of course it was.
Herzog calls the saga he read as a “soap-opera story” about Alexander the Great’s father, though the historian in question is “a fairly unintelligent writer.”
Surprisingly, he rarely dreams.
The filmmaker says he dreams “maybe once in a year.” In the last dream he remembers, Herzog was being pursued in Mexico “by God knows what” and gets knocked down. A priest then came to pick him up, shook him and asked him, “Do you believe in the forces of evil?...

A third series of the BBC historical military strategy game Time Commanders appears to be on the way...
Is it your dream to replicate the military achievements of Alexander the Great via the medium of modern games engines, live on TV? Then you, my friend, are in luck.
BBC Four has put out a call for teams of three people to take part in the return of Time Commanders, a "popular historical military strategy series, where teams go head-to-head with some of the greatest generals from history".
During its brief 2003-2005 tenure, Time Commanders saw teams reenact historical battles using a games engine more or less imported wholesale from real-time strategy game Rome: Total War. It was hosted by Scottish broadcaster Eddie Mair before Top Gear's Richard Hammond took over.

The Screenwriting Lab at Outfest, Los Angeles’ Lgbt Film Festival, offers a platform to tell important stories. In the program’s 19th year, writers Michael Colucci, Kellee Terrell, Chanelle Tyson, Jen Richards and Michael Walek not only got to work with professionals to hone their skills and develop their stories in a three-day, mentor led workshop, but also got to see their visions come to life during the Screenwriting Lab’s Live Stage Reading at Outfest on Tuesday night.
Read More: Outfest 2016 Opens With A Heavy Heart And A Message of Hope
With actors including Elaine Hendrix, Zackary Drucker, Mather Zickel, Jason Stuart, Kym Whitley and Alexandra Grey, the reading presented select segments from each writer’s scripts. From gay ancient Greeks to a young girl exploring her sexuality to transgender women navigating Chicago, it was a powerful and emotional journey through the important and varied stories of the lab’s fellows.

Since any New York cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.
Metrograph
“Welcome to Metrograph: A to Z” has a packed weekend with a slate that includes Alain Resnais‘ Je t’aime, je t’aime, Nicholas Ray‘s The Lusty Men, Jackie Brown, and, yes, Jackass 3D.
Baumbach & Paltrow‘s De Palma plays with a Jim McBride feature on Saturday and two De Palma shorts on Sunday.

Theodoros AngelopoulosSo consistent was the vision of Theodoros Angelopoulos that nearly any of his films could stand as a leading representative work. When viewing all 13 of his features within a condensed period of time—an extraordinary opportunity to be offered by New York's Museum of the Moving Image July 8 - 24—one sees just how exceptional Angelopoulos’ filmography is, and how each title is an emblematic entry in the late Greek director’s catalog of persistent themes, tonal frequencies, plot points, and, perhaps most indelibly, sheer visual boldness.Landscape in the Mist (1988)IMAGESIt is in this last regard that Angelopoulos instantly and emphatically impresses. His cinema is punctuated by a remarkable succession of single images that linger long after the film has concluded, often retaining in the viewer’s consciousness more than an overall story or specific characters. Silhouetted bodies on a fog-shrouded border fence in Eternity and a Day (1998); a...

323 BC Alexander the Great dies of an unknown illness. Colin Farrell plays him in a movie centuries and centuries later and it's suggested that it's a combo of Typhus, Bad Wigs, and Loving Jared Leto that does him in. Who could survive that combo? In spring 2007, American Idol had what could be called its Donald Trump moment.
The sixth season of Fox's make-me-a-pop-superstar/talent-show juggernaut had acquainted millions of Americans with a contestant named Sanjaya Malakar. He was a sweet, mildly talented and – at some fundamental level – rather silly 17-year-old. Judge Simon Cowell regarded him as a waste of time and undeserving of a continued spot on the Idol stage.
And yet he stayed. Viewers kept voting to keep him in the competition. Why?

Okay film fans, are you all set for the big sequel storming the multiplex this weekend. No, not that one, the one with the caped combatants. Instead of spandex think….Windex. This is the follow-up that most movie-goers of a…ahem…certain age have been clamoring for since the original shocked and stunned Hollywood fourteen (gasp!) years ago. That’s because this lil’ flick with no big marquee stars, which cost a paltry five million, went on to gross just under a quarter of a billion bucks. So what took em’ so long, you may ask. Well, there was a TV show in 2003 that CBS canned after just seven episodes. Tis’ a distant memory, one that will be erased when the whole gang is back for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. So pass the ouzo! Opa!

Big Greek family stalks a browbeaten daughter in this shouty, ramshackle rom-com sequel
Nia Vardalos delves into her seemingly endless supply of big crude Greek stereotypes for a sequel to one of the most cancerously patronising romantic comedies of all time. Vardalos, who wrote and stars in the film, reprises her role as Toula, the browbeaten daughter of the overbearing Portokalos clan. Now, however, she has a 17-year-old daughter who is regularly mortified by the entire family turning up at the various landmark moments of her life. The supporting cast tend to bellow their lines as if they are trying to have a conversation across an eight-lane motorway, but volume of delivery fails to make up for the lack of comic polish. Scenes tend to fizzle out or end with an ancient granny wandering into shot brandishing some baklava. The wedding is a renewal of vows between Toula’s parents; meanwhile,...

The end is nigh—or so we think. In the final episodes of House of Cards season four, we come to terms with what’s going on from the start: Claire and Frank never truly loved each other but rather are a political union made for world domination. A modern day Catherine the Great married to Alexander the Great, with the only question of who is more powerful and willing to do what it takes.
And that question keeps on leaning more and more into the grey area. For the first few seasons at least, we always figured that Claire supported Frank in everything he did, always there to provide support and some outside the box thinking. But as we delve further into her character this season, we understand that she may be more of a megalomaniac than we once considered. We knew that they both had it in them,...

There’s one point late in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 that stands out — nay, is almost stunning — for actually being underplayed. Ian (John Corbett), in the middle of a utilitarian exchange of pleasantries with his ultra-reserved Wasp father (Bruce Gray), tentatively reaches for a deeper connection, offering to be available to “just talk or whatever” if he ever wants to. It’s left unsaid but obvious that spending so much time around the extraordinarily close family of his wife, Toula (Nia Vardalos), has made Ian long, at least a little bit, for that kind of casual intimacy with his own relatives. It’s a nice little exchange that speaks better for this film’s affectionate vision of Greek family life than most of its boisterous comedy scenes.
The weird thing is that, though written by the Greek-descended Vardalos, most of the aspects of Greek identity on display in...

Ubisoft may be moving on from its annual release of their franchise game, starting with Assassin's Creed Empire. Come inside for more.
Assassin's Creed has been the premiere video game franchise of Ubisoft for many, many years now. So much so that, the developer has released a new Assassin's Creed game on an annual basis, for better or worse. However, it seems the worse has caught up with them.
A report from Kotaku states that, Ubisoft is planning on slowing down their annual video game release of the major Assassin's Creed games. Instead, they are looking to go with a more "biennial" (every two years) approach. This new approach stems from the fact that many gamers started getting franchise fatigue after the tragedy that was Unity. However, that was only part of the problem.
Unity wasn't the first Assassin's Creed game to be buggy, it was just the most noticeable one.

Cross of the Dutchman – or any historical games “based on a true story” – should ship with a disclaimer. At some point during the player’s virtual crusade, the developers will con the hero or heroine into doing video game busywork. For all the research written or legends told about King Arthur, Alexander the Great, or other larger-than-life figures, you never hear stories about the hours they spent slaying rats or smashing crates for experience points. Some teams overcome these immersion-breaking flaws, trading factual accuracies for a game’s overall fun. This particular title seems to forget about both.
Cross of the Dutchman trades the excitement of an action RPG for a mediocre, semi-authentic origin story. Players witness the birth of Pier the Great, the 16th-century hero that sparked a rebel army’s rise against invading Saxons in the northern Netherlands. While he starts out as the everyday Pier Gerlofs Donia,...

The quest to live forever has captured our collective imagination for centuries, from ancient texts in the time of Alexander the Great to current sci-fi movies. But as a scientist notes in the trailer for "Selfless," "Immortality has some side effects."
That proves to be quite the understatement. In the movie, Ben Kingsley plays an aging, brilliant billionaire who wants to extend his life. He's offered that chance by a scientist (Matthew Goode), who's developed a procedure that would transfer Kingsley's mind into a much younger body - that of Ryan Reynolds.
But after the seemingly successful procedure, things start to go awry (natch), as Reynolds' consciousness battles that of Kingsley's for ultimate control.

For the most part, the excellence of HBO’s “Togetherness” isn’t surprising. Co-creators Mark and Jay Duplass have a long track record with films they either wrote and directed themselves or supported in some way, Melanie Lynskey and Amanda Peet have lots of fine performances on their resumes, and even Mark Duplass himself has turned out to be an interesting and versatile actor as his career has evolved. The one unknown is the man who is in many ways the reason the show exists: co-star and co-creator Steve Zissis, a longtime friend and collaborator of the brothers Duplass who hasn’t had many prominent roles outside of their films. As Alex, a talented but underemployed actor crashing on his best friend’s couch, Zissis gets to be funny, charming, and at times heartbreaking over the course of this eight-episode first season. (Four episodes have aired so far; HBO recently ordered a second season.

Every week, Shelf Life sees Tom White select and talk about a movie that lives on his DVD shelf, one he thinks we should all see. After receiving critical acclaim and numerous awards for co-writing The Usual Suspects, Christopher McQuarrie was noticeably absent from the cinematic landscape. You may know him now for Jack reacher and Edge of Tomorrow, but back in the late nineties, he was unsuccessfully trying to get a biopic of Alexander the Great off the ground, not wanting his success with Bryan Singer's classic thriller to typecast him as 'a crime guy'. But, as the story goes, it took a cup of coffee with Benico Del Toro to change his mind, which sent him to work on his directorial debut, an action/crime thriller which turned everything we know about the usual hero dynamic on it's head. This was movie was 2000's The Way of the Gun.

Exclusive: Basil Iwanyk’s Thunder Road has acquired screen rights to the Steven Pressfield hybrid history The Lion’s Gate: On The Front Lines Of The Six Day War. The producer will use the book as a template to tell the story of how Israel, faced with extinction as Jordan, Syria and Egypt prepared to attack, routed the enemy in less than a week in 1967 with a brilliant battle plan. By the time the smoke cleared, Israel had gained hold of three times as much land as it started with, taking over the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Sinai Peninsula, and Judaism’s holiest site, the Western Wall that was part of the ruins of Solomon’s Temple, real estate that hadn’t been in Jewish hands for 1900 years.
Though a period tale, it certainly is a topical one, because the repercussions are still felt today in the constant tension between Israel and its neighbors.

In addition to being the baddest man on the planet, Mike Tyson is also a best-selling author, occasional star of stage and screen, friend of the Black Keys and longtime pigeon aficionado. So, in a way, his latest project makes perfect sense.
It's called Mike Tyson Mysteries, an animated ode to Hanna-Barbera's canon of classic '70s capers (Scooby-Doo, Speed Buggy, Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels, etc). Set to premiere October 27 on – where else? – Adult Swim, it's very bit as odd as you'd imagine, though even that might be selling it short.

Directed by Alberto Arvelo and written by Timothy J. Sexton, The Liberator introduces us to Simon Bolivar, the military and political leader who played a key role in Latin America’s successful struggle for independence from the Spanish Empire in the 1800s. Bolivar was said to have fought over 100 battles in South America and ridden over 70,000 miles on horseback. But while his military campaigns covered twice the territory of Alexander the Great, he and his army were liberators instead of conquerors.
Playing Simon Bolivar in The Liberator is Edgar Ramirez, who is best known for his roles in Carlos, Domino, The Bourne Ultimatum and Zero Dark Thirty. We watch as Ramirez takes Bolivar from being the son in a rich family to becoming a man who finds a renewed sense of purpose when he joins the growing colonial revolt against the Spanish crown.
