- There is no nudity in this film and no sexual activity. Even in the dance scene participants are reminded that they are not permitted to dance "cheek to cheek."

- There are several scenes where mentally unstable women are grabbed firmly by the arms and held tightly. One is wrestled to the ground and restrained.
- A mentally ill patient grabs another around the throat.
- The depiction of shock treatment is very violent and (pardon the pun) shocking.
- An inmate bites a doctor on the finger (not seen).

- Two doctors smoke pipes. One of the other doctors smokes a cigar. Most of the adult characters smoke cigarettes regularly.
