J.I.D is sitting in the green room of the Universal Music Group’s offices watching a replay of a football game. He had just finished eating some takeout when I walked in. The Atlanta Mc has had hundreds of performances in his career, but he’s never quite had a set like the one he performed for a small, invite-only crowd in Manhattan, where he performed a song that will never be formally released to the public.
He partnered with 5 Gum to put together a custom track for their Hip-Hop 50 celebration.

Brothers Osborne live it up every way they can in “Sun Ain’t Even Gone Down Yet,” a bright and boisterous track from their upcoming self-titled album, out September 15.

Al Kasha, the songwriter who won Academy Awards in the 1970s for co-writing hit ballads for “The Poseidon Adventure” and “The Towering Inferno,” died Monday in Los Angeles. He was 83. No cause of death was immediately given.
As part of a songwriting team with Joel Hirschhorn, Kasha received two Tony nominations, four Golden Globe nods and a People’s Choice award, plus a pair of additional Oscar nominations for “Pete’s Dragon” in addition to the duo’s two wins for the Irwin Allen disaster movies.
“Write in Power,” tweeted Diane Warren, who succeeded Kasha as movie-theme royalty. “A great songwriter and lovely man,” she said, adding a broken-heart emoji.
“The Morning After,” from 1972’s “The Poseidon Adventure,” is still remembered as one of the more indelible movie themes of all time, either despite or because of the fact that it appeared within the body of the film, being sung on...

Industry panellists discussed the changing nature of the international film business during the NeXT Talks conference.
After two days of screening and pitches at its new NeXT event, Flanders Image also offered a day of NeXT Talks, designed to let visiting international experts share knowledge with Belgian attendees.
These talks covered dealing with the press, the position of Flemish cinema in France, the changing nature of film sales, and thoughts from festival programmers.
Clare Crean, head of sales for London-based The Works, advised Belgian producers to chose their sales partners carefully, noting the longevity of that relationship.
“Something that is not always understood is the longevity of the relationship between the producer and the sales company. When we come on board any film, it is usually for a long period of time, 15, 20, 25 years. We talk a lot about being involved at inception and at the financing stage, but also an awful lot of the role is the...

What may be most surprising about Katja von Garnier’s music doc Forever and a Day, a contemporary portrait of iconic hard rock/heavy metal German band The Scorpions, is to note their five decades worth of musical presence. Formed by Rudolf Schenker in 1965, the band allowed Garnier to tag along as they embarked on what was meant to be their Final Sting tour, an eighteen month stretch of performances which were set to wrap up in Munich. However, based on the jubilant reaction as they performed, the band decided to then extend the tour. The result becomes a ruminative pondering on the nature of an artist’s retirement and what happens when creative outlets are eventually restrained. In between playdates, Garnier completes a historical portrait of the band’s ups and downs throughout the past fifty years.
As one of the band’s managers remarks early on, “it’s...

UK omnibus 50 Kisses is entering the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest roster of co-writers on a feature film. The 51 scribes will gather today at BAFTA headquarters in London for a special screening of the film that beat the previous record holder, 1943’s Forever And A Day. That film had 21 writers including an uncredited Alfred Hitchcock. The British 50 Kisses was produced by the London Screenwriters’ Festival. Two years ago, it invited writers to submit two-page scripts featuring at least one kiss and set on Valentine’s Day. The 50 best scripts were released online with an open invitation for filmmakers to produce them. Ultimately, 127 shorts were made and those were edited down to produce 50 Kisses. The finished product was released on February 13 this year, earning a per-screen average of nearly £9,500. The end credits run for 17 minutes. Shine‘s Scandinavian production group, Metronome, has named Marika Makaroff as Managing Director...

Kelly Rowland could never take drugs because she always likes to be in control of herself. The "Forever and a Day" singer says she's not tempted to take illegal substances or drink copious amounts of alcohol because she's seen what it can do to people.
"Once, at Pacha in Ibiza, I looked into the crowd and thought, 'That's heavy.' Looking at those people, all completely spaced out, I felt worried for them. I'm not indulging," she said. "That is not how I run my business."
"I love the fact I have control over myself. It's important to always be a lady. People come up to me and say, 'My daughter looks up to you as a role model' and I take that seriously."
