Put on any action movie made between 1903’s The Great Train Robbery and 2017’s John Wick, pay attention to the risks playing out before you, and you’ll never stop asking why the hell aren’t stunt performers lauded for their efforts by the Academy Awards. In the 1970s, one of the greatest and most underrated decades for action movies, you could still see every danger to life and limb on screen. CGI wasn’t around yet, and the law was barely paying attention.
The result is an era where bloody martial arts imports and Blaxploitation commentary blended with tight-wire action and terrifyingly real stunts. The very best remain iconic, from the Dirty Harrys to 1979’s global phenomenon, Mad Max. But with the passage of time comes forgetting, and the ‘70s hide some of the best, wildest, and sometimes even edgiest movies waiting for fans to rediscover.

More details are emerging about TikTok‘s impending court date. The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia has set a September date for oral arguments in two cases that will determine whether the federal divest-or-ban law violates the U.S. Constitution.
The September date applies to the case between TikTok and the Justice Department as well as a second lawsuit that pits an octet of creators against the U.S. Both groups of plaintiffs are looking to show that the Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversaries Act (Paffaa) represents an unwarranted intrusion on First Amendment rights.
“The Act thus promises to shutter a discrete medium of communication that has become part of American life, prohibiting Petitioners from creating and disseminating expressive material with their chosen editor and publisher—and from receiving such material from others,” reads the complaint filed by the suing creators. “This extraordinary restraint on speech violates the First Amendment.

Wes Craven's 1977 film "The Hills Have Eyes," like Tobe Hooper's "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" before it, features a vanload of city folks who find themselves waylaid in a forgotten corner of the American wasteland. In Craven's film, the wasteland is not rural Texas, but the irradiated deserts of Nevada. The protagonists (Dee Wallace is among them) are beset by the brood of the sadistic Papa Jupiter (James Whitworth), including Mars (Lance Gordon), Mercury (Arthur King), and Pluto (Michael Berryman). Years ago, Jupiter moved into the hills with his wife (Cordy Clark) and raised their children to attack and cannibalize passers-through in order to survive. "The Hills Have Eyes" is raw and brutal, but possessed of a winking sense of humor that horror fans will appreciate.
The original film only cost about $700,000 to make (although the actual budget isn't very well recorded), yet it went on to make over $25 million,...

Grab your cowboy hat, because Act II: Cowboy Carter, the next installment of Beyoncé’s Renaissance project, has officially arrived. Stream it below.
The second act kicked off in February with the album announcement and dual drop of “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages,” which confirmed this project as country-inspired. Shortly after, Beyoncé revealed that this album was born of an experience where she didn’t feel welcomed, and the process of writing and recording Act II has encouraged her to take a deep dive into the rich history of Black artists in country music.
She’s enlisted a crew of serious heavy hitters to join her on the journey, including icons Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton. Miley Cyrus and Post Malone also guest on Cowboy Carter. Linda Martell, the first Black woman to ever play the Grand Ole Opry, gets a moment to take center stage, too.

Even in country’s current era of overnight successes and viral sensations, Dylan Gossett stands out.
Barely a year ago, the Austin, Texas, native had a day job and experimented with posting his music online on a whim. Fueled by the success of his debut, “To Be Free,” which amassed more than 18 million Spotify streams, and his breakout, “Coal,” Gossett can seemingly do no wrong at the moment. He is early in his No Better Time headlining tour, which this week included sold-out shows in St. Paul, Minnesota, and Chicago...

At 90 years young, there appears to be nothing that will slow Willie Nelson down. “The Red-Headed Stranger” is still doing everything he was doing when he started his career in country music. That includes recording and releasing new music. In fact, Willie Nelson just revealed the release date of his next album. This will be the “Always On My Mind” singer’s 75th album.
The New Willie Nelson Album
Willie Nelson has announced his upcoming album will be titled The Border. This album will not include as many songs as several of his past albums have. The latest album will only have 10 songs.
Of those 10 songs, four of them were co-written by the “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man” singer and Buddy Cannon. Nelson and Buddy Cannon have written songs together for quite some time.

[This story contains spoilers from the season finale of Lawmen: Bass Reeves.]
In the season finale of Lawmen: Bass Reeves, the audience witnessed a standoff between former Confederate soldier Esau Pierce (played by Barry Pepper) and the hero lawman Bass Reeves (Golden Globe-nominated David Oyelowo). While Esau seemed to see something admirable in Bass from their day-one encounter (when Reeves was still under the confines of slavery), an unfortunate turn of events toward the end of episode one would forever make Esau a mortal enemy in Bass’ eyes.
And it could not be any other way, says Chad Feehan, showrunner of the Paramount+ series. Having contributed to successful cable network shows such as Ray Donovan (Showtime) and Banshee (Cinemax), Feehan tells The Hollywood Reporter that his friend, executive producer Taylor Sheridan, introducing him to Oyelowo provided the right foundation for the trio to work together in producing what Feehan calls a long-overdue, extensive exploration of the law legend’s...

The world was a drastically different place when the James Bond film series kicked off in 1962 with "Dr. No." Gender roles were still set in stone. It was a man's world, one in which women were expected to keep a clean and orderly house while the breadwinner put in his forty hours a week. Should a woman seek employment outside of the home, it's because they were single and could type or file up a storm.
In movies, unmarried women tended to be tragic figures or femme fatales (when they weren't queens or goddesses). If they weren't desperate for a good man to make them whole, they were hellbent on compromising and destroying one. Or they were tools of wealthy, nefarious men, like the Bond girls. Beginning with Ursula Andress' Honey Ryder, the Bond girl was typically a femme fatale who helplessly fell for the British secret agent's rough charm...

Even though The Eras Tour covers 10 studio albums, Swift performs the least amount of songs from her albums Taylor Swift and Speak Now. Here’s why Swift might have purposefully left songs from Speak Now and Taylor Swift off her tour setlist.

Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour began on Friday night in Glendale, Arizona. It was a three-hour show that spanned the music artist’s hits from every “era” in the singer’s 17-year discography.
>Get Taylor Swift Concert Tickets Here!
The anticipation for opening night was so great that Glendale changed its name to Swift City for March 17-18.
Late last year, the high demand for tickets to the Eras Tour broke the distribution company Ticketmaster’s website. Swift addressed this, acknowledging that it took her 70,000 fans “a considerable amount of effort” to attend the opening concert.
Swift began the show with the Lover (2019) era, opening with “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince” and performing “Cruel Summer” live for the very first time.
After singing songs from Evermore (2020), Swift asked the audience, “Is it just me or do we have a lot to catch up on?”, in reference to this tour being her first since 2018.

The Glastonbury 2023 headliners have been announced by Emily Eavis.
The festival’s co-organiser shared the news in an article discussing “pipeline” problems related to the all-male headlining line-up.
Joining Elton John will be Arctic Monkeys on the Friday, headlining for their third time, with Guns N’ Roses playing the Saturday slot.
Eavis said that Guns N’ Roses replaced a female singer who “changed her touring plans”.
While Eavis didn’t name names, it’s strongly suspected she was alluding to Taylor Swift, who was originally set to perform in 2020 when the festival was cancelled due to Covid.
However, Eavis expressed excitement about the “Sweet Child O’ Mine” rockers’ Glastonbury debut, telling The Guardian: “They’ll be brilliant and provide something totally different to the rest of the headliners.”
She said that Lizzo will “open” for the band, with the “About Damn Time” singer receiving joint headline billing on the poster.

Bethlyn Hand, the former Senior Vice President of Advertising and Administration for the Motion Picture Association, passed away on February 14. The cause was Alzheimer’s disease, her brother Lloyd Hand said. She was 85.
A veteran of the MPA, Hand joined the org soon after Jack Valenti was made President, and remained for 37 years. Valenti said in 2003, “She was by my side at the very beginning of my tenure at the MPAA. I got a lot of credit for what she did.”
Hand played a crucial role in approving or declining marketing campaigns according to the guidelines of the Motion Picture Association of America’s ratings program and became a well-known figure in the industry.
She grew up in Houston and majored in journalism at the University of Texas, then began her career in 1966 when she moved to Washington DC and worked alongside Valenti. Nine years later, Hand moved to Los...

Plot: After Christopher Robin abandons them for college, Pooh and Piglet embark on a bloody rampage as they search for a new source of food.
Review: A group of high school students left my showing of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey after about thirty minutes. So that should tell you the level of quality we’re dealing with here. Even a group of cackling teenagers didn’t care for this nonsensical horror tale. When Winnie the Pooh entered the public domain, I knew we would be in for some really bad adaptations but I really didn’t expect the horror world to take to it so quickly. I guess that makes me blissfully ignorant because not only did they take to it, but they did it with the least amount of money possible. And boy does it show.
I don’t want this entire review to be negative, so...

For TikTok to continue operating in the United States, its representatives will need to convince lawmakers that it does not pose a considerable security threat to American citizens. To make that point, the ByteDance-owned platform is going on a PR offensive. It invited journalists to check out the TikTok Transparency Center in Los Angeles, which offers details about the titular app’s operations.
TikTok COO Vanessa Pappas, who spoke to reporters at the tour, said that the Center provides “unprecedented levels of transparency.” At different rooms in the facility, visitors can check out the setups used by TikTok moderators, learn about the making of the For You Page, and inspect the app’s source code. (Anyone who wants to enter that room has to sign an NDA first.) Attendees used phrases like “charm offensive” and “virtual signaling” to describe the experience.

Christopher Young‘s brilliant Hellraiser score is nearly as synonymous with the film as Pinhead — but if writer-director Clive Barker had his way, the soundtrack would have been composed by British industrial music pioneers Coil.
Barker first became aware of Coil through Forbidden Planet, the UK’s enduring genre bookshop where band member Stephen Thrower worked. When Barker happened into the store, Thrower mentioned that he was a fan of his Books of Blood, and the two hit it off. Thrower eventually played him some of Coil’s music, and Barker was immediately won over.
Barker was quoted as saying that Coil is “the only group I’ve heard on disc whose records I’ve taken off because they made my bowels churn.” That’s high praise coming from the master of the macabre. Shortly after completing the script for Hellraiser, he told Coil that he wanted them to compose the music.

Ten-year-old Texan Marlie McDonald has retired from mutton busting, having outgrown the sport. But in her time she could outride the best of them.
Marlie’s exploits in the arena are documented in the short film Just Hold On, especially her gold buckle-winning effort at RodeoHouston in 2018. Just six years old then, McDonald climbed aboard a sheep, grabbed a couple fistfuls of wool and when the gate opened and the critter bolted, she kept her grip for 90 feet, earning a perfect score.
“All the way to the wall!” hollered an excited announcer. “She’s done it!”
“My heart was racing,” she recounts in the film directed by Oscar winner Rayka Zehtabchi and Sam A. Davis, “like I was having a panic attack.”
“I think she likes challenges,” observes her cowboy-hatted grandpa, leaning on a gnarled wooden cane. “And she has a temperament that makes her want to do what she...

The events of Tobe Hooper’s classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (watch it Here) took place on August 18, 1973, so it’s very appropriate that the folks at Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham, who are hard at work on developing a Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game, chose to share a video preview of the game today. When wrestler Mack Beggs stepped onto the mat to compete during his days as a high schooler in Texas, he not only faced the opponent in front of him, but often a raft of adversaries in the stands. They booed him and hurled invectives.
“I do think people hate me,” Mack says in the Emmy-nominated documentary Changing the Game. The reason? “There was a huge uproar and controversy with me being trans.”
Beggs found himself twisted into knots — not by another wrestler, but by a state imposing restrictions and regulations on the activities of trans athletes. Beggs wanted to compete against boys, but Texas refused and would only allow him to wrestle girls. When he did wrestle girls, crowds rained down abuse.
Beggs said he tried to tune that out and keep focused on the match.

Look, it’s easy to shake your head over Texas these days. The governor can’t keep the lights on, nincompoop senator Ted Cruz spends his time thinking about Pete Davidson, and the state is restricting women’s rights while loosening gun laws. But Jonathan Terrell, a Longview native fond of using phrases like “let me throw some bacon in the pan” when he’s making a point, will make you appreciate all that’s still great about the Lone Star State with his new song and video “Texas.”

Abbott Elementary creator and star Quinta Brunson is sick to her stomach — not only over America’s “love affair” with guns, but the apparent demand for her hit ABC comedy to address the gun violence epidemic in Season 2.
On Tuesday, 19 children and two adults were killed when a gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. (The 18-year-old suspect was also killed.) The tragedy marked the deadliest American school shooting since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary nearly a decade ago.

The Onion blanketed its homepage today with the same article it has posted in response to many other past mass shootings, skewering the idea that such atrocities cannot be stopped.
“‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says the Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens,” reads the headline on the article, which was posted 21 times on the satirical site’s home page. Each story corresponds to a different mass shooting but with the same headline and quotes. The Onion had posted the same article earlier this month following the mass shooting at a grocery store in Buffalo, NY, and it has run the article numerous times since 2014. That was after there was a mass shooting in the Isla Vista community near Uc Santa Barbara.

Beto O’Rourke interrupted a news conference given by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to protest inaction to mass shooting incidents, accusing state leaders of “doing nothing” to address gun violence.
O’Rourke, who is trying to unseat Abbott in November’s election, initially was identified as a “protester” on CNN’s cable news chyron’s before it became apparent who he was.

“You said this was not predictable. This was totally predictable,” O’Rourke said, at times pointing his finger at the governor, hammering Abbott for “doing nothing.” Don McLaughlin, the mayor of Uvalde, shouted at O’Rourke, “Sir, you are out of line. Please leave this auditorium.”
McLaughlin continued to shout at O’Rourke, telling him, “I can’t believe you’re a sick son of a bitch that would come to a deal like this to make a political issue.”
