The film gave rise to protests in Belgium, mainly from certain members of the Flemish community. It went as far as an interpellation at the Chamber of Deputies in order to have the film banned in Belgium. The request was rejected; nevertheless, it was banned in the city of Bruges.
This was the second non-fiction cinema film to be shown on British television (on 7 October 1938).
Re-released in France in 1951.
Grand Prix du Cinéma Français 1936.
This film's initial USA television broadcast took place in New York City Saturday 29 July 1939 as part of the "International Film Festival" on New York City's newly launched experimental television station W2XBS, which would not reach commercial status as WNBT (Channel 1) until almost 2 years later on 29 June 1941.
