- In June and July of 2011 42 year old Ammon and Kait his 22 year old his girlfriend set out to climb the never repeated route of Wings of Steel on Yosemite's El Capitan. Wings sat unclimbed since the first ascent in 1983. Shrouded in controversy and with a bounty waiting for the second ascent team, there seemed to be no better person to climb it than Ammon. But was Kait the best choice for a partner? With over 70 El Cap climbs by 60 different routes Ammon is clearly a seasoned climber. Kait is relatively green to the big walls, having only three El Cap ascents on her resume and all of them with Ammon by her side. This climb would be a test of their ability and their relationship. Logging over 500 feet of falls, a dislocated shoulder, Ammon presses on up the wall. Kait sits anxiously on a portaledge watching the person she loves suffer fall after fall, each fall pulling her petite frame hard into the anchors. On day four stress levels hit a boiling point as the couple began to turn on each other. For 13 days Ammon and Kait fight on and up. The story of Wings of Steel is as legendary as Ammon himself. The first ascent team spent 39 days climbing the controversial route. The result - death threats, physical assaults and a slander campaign that polarized the Yosemite climbing community for over 30 years. Retold in interviews with the first ascent team, their detractors, climbing historians and personal interviews with both Ammon and Kait, combined with footage shot during their historic ascent, the truth about the most controversial climb in Yosemite history will be told.

The companionship of these young people soon ripens into love, and despite the disparity of the rank of Adams and his sweetheart's father, they plight their troth. At the opening of the story we see them riding away from the post. Upon arriving at Nevada Falls, a favorite spot, they leave their horses and proceed on foot in order that they may ascend to a more advantageous height from which to view the gorgeous scenery that surrounds the grand historical Yosemite Valley. While engaged in this pastime, an Indian renegade steals their horses, leaving them afoot many miles from the post. The evening is stealing upon them when they discover their loss and in their effort to follow the footprints of their horses they lose their way and are compelled to spend the night in the wilderness. The Colonel becoming alarmed, sends out a searching party that finally succeeds in finding the missing couple. Upon returning to the post the sergeant is placed under arrest, despite the pleading of his unhappy sweetheart. Now a lapse of n month occurs and we see a thrilling battle with the Indians, in which the Colonel, accompanied by his daughter, is cut off from the men and about to be taken by the redskins. It is at this time that Adams, only a private, shows his heroism by making a desperate dash through the lines of the enemy, rescuing the Colonel and his daughter from the murderous savages, though wounded almost to death. His recovery and promotion to 1st Lieutenant soon follow, and with the consent of the Colonel to his marriage with the lady of his choice, ends a pretty story of love, heroism and devotion to duty.

- Kit and Davy were two great friends, trapping and hunting together in the early days of the fifties, among the fastnesses of the Sierra Nevada mountains. But they both fell in love with the same girl, and Kit being the handsomer, was acceptable in her eyes. Calling at her hut one evening Kit was received with smiles and poor Davy with coldness, and he discovered that the reason lies in Kit having already occupied the ground. Rendered unjust by jealousy he accused Kit of unfairness, and they fought it out in the snow, poor Davy receiving a sad mauling and left to nurse a broken head as well as a broken heart, while the conqueror walked off with his Mary, who loved him more than ever for his prowess. Davy vowed to have done forever with women and the settlements, and went trapping among the mountains. Mary and her Kit were married, and all was bright for them, until one winter night he cut his foot terribly while chopping wood. As the flow of blood could not be stopped, Mary ran to the nearest neighbors for help. Confused by night and snow she lost her way, and was finally overcome by fatigue and cold. Davy, on his way to the settlement to barter his peltries for supplies, crossed her trail, followed and rescued her and restored her to the arms of her husband.
