He revolutionized science-fiction with his 1952 short story (later a novel) titled "The Lovers", the first known science-fiction tale to portray sex between a human and a non-humanoid alien. The winner of three Hugo awards and named a Grand Master of Science-Fiction in 2001, his best known series was made into two made-for-TV movies: Riverworld (2003) and Riverworld (2010), both for the SyFy Channel. He is also well known for writing novels around established fictional characters such as Tarzan and Doc Savage - going so far as to write a detailed biography of Tarzan - and his novel "Venus on the Half Shell" was written under the alias of Kilgore Trout, a character created by novelist Kurt Vonnegut Jr..
- Born in New York on 7 May 1931; Wolf studied at Texas A&M for a few years before leaving to fight in the Korean War. On his return he finished his degree at the University of Houston. He worked as the editor of the professional journal Plant Engineering and was instrumental in inventing the machine that cooks Pringles potato chips. He pursued his own writing during his editorial tenure at Plant Engineering, taking a few years before one of his books gained wider notice in the science fiction community. Wolfe went on to write over 30 novels, with his best best-known work, The Book of The New Sun, spanning 1980-1983. Wolfe is survived by his daughters Madeleine, Teri and son, Matthew and 3 granddaughters, Rebecca, Elizabeth and Alison.

In 1943, Budd married Jean House.
Budd's creepy, sardonic laugh was remembered by new WMBD-TV executives when it came time to find a host for their recently acquired Shock syndicated horror film package. In 1958 the new television station aired Nightmare Theater starring Milton Budd as host.
