Born in Ixelles/Etterbeek (part of Brussels) from an Italian father and a French mother, Giani Esposito first lived in Paris and then grew up in Italy between 1939 and 1949. He became an actor in French cinema from 1951 on, starting with a bit part in Maitre après Dieu (1951) by Louis Daquin. Around the same time he started a singing career, performing at the cabarets La Rose Rouge and L'Ecluse, and became successful with the song Le Clown in 1957. From 1958 on he recorded both his poems and his songs. He also published some books and did illustrations. In 1959 he met Pascale Petit who became his partner. In 1966 their daughter Douchka was born
Until 1971 Esposito acted in many French and some Italian films, such as Huis clos (Jacqueline Audry 1954), French cancan (Jean Renoir 1955), Les mauvaises rencontres (Alexandre Astruc 1955), Les Misérables (Jean-Paul Le Chanois 1957/1958), Paris nous appartient (Jacques Rivette 1960), and Il Decameron (Pier Paolo Pasolini 1971). Between 1957 and 1973 Esposito also played in telefilms and television series. In 1971 he met Ersie Pittas, niece of the Greek director Michael Cacoyannis, and started a show in which he recited poems while he danced, touring around France in 1972-1973. With an overload of projects and plans Gianni Esposito was struck by a viral hepatitis and a brain tumor in late 1973, and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine, on New Year's Day 1 January 1974.- Originating from Kaiping, Guangdong, Chen grew up in Hong Kong, where he trained in Tai Chi. As a middle-weight boxer, he was once famous for challenging a heavyweight in a Southeast Asia teenage martial arts contest in 1971. He joined Shaw Brothers the following year as an actor and made five films with them, the final being Tai ji quan (1974) "The Shadow Boxer", , which was to be marked as Chen's final act as tragically, he committed suicide by gas poisoning in 1974, before the film was released. Chen was only 24 when he died.
- Vivienne Chatterton had a remarkable radio career that lasted more than 50 years. She rarely appeared in other mediums after the 1930s. She was first heard as a soprano in a concert broadcast for the Marconi company in 1922. She also appeared in concerts and light opera for 2LO London, precursor of the BBC. She was Sarah Gamp in "A Pickwick Party", broadcast at Christmas 1926 and 1927. Also in 1927 she played the title role in the musical "Irene". By the mid-30s she was mostly in drama, mostly in character roles. She appeared in hundreds of editions of "Children's Hour". In 1936 she appeared with Tod Slaughter in "Sweeney Todd". She made a rare TV appearance in "Thomas or Sally or The Sailor's Return", first broadcast 10.4.37 and repeated 16.11.37. Back on radio she was typically cast as fussy spinster Miss Bourne in Arnold Ridley's "The Ghost Train" (1940). Occasionally in comedy, she was in "Much Binding in the Marsh" (1947) and later in "Dear Me" (1951) with Michael Howard and "Fine Goings On"(1958) with Frankie Howerd. Her longest-running role was Mrs Mountford in the daily soap opera "Mrs Dale's Diary", which she played from 1950 to 1963. In the re-vamped version, "The Dales", she played different characters from 1963-66. In 1963 she was rewarded by being cast away on "Desert Island Discs". As her luxury she chose insect repellent. Later important roles were in "Middlemarch" (1965), "The Crucible" (1970), as Florence Nightingale's mother in "The Lady with a Lamp" (1970), and Rudyard Kipling's "Kim" (1970). She appeared less frequently in the 1970s, but was notable in "L'Arlesienne" (1972), Noel Coward's "Waiting in the Wings" (1973) and "The Man Born to Be King" (1975). Her last radio appearance was in "Serjeant Musgrave's Dance" (1976), broadcast after her death.
