Hakeemshady Mohamed was born to almost unspeakable circumstances in the war-torn Somali capital of Mogadishu. After three years of living in relative obscurity among thousands of conflict survivors from Rwanda, Uganda, and South Sudan, Hakeemshady emerged from the shadows to pursue a career as a filmmaker in the U.S. A young talent on the rise, Hakeemshady has been described as a passionate, humble, and hard-working performer. In his latest film role, Default, he delivers a powerful performance in the role of "Blue Eyes," a treacherous member of a small band of Somali pirates who hold a news crew for ransom. Default, a film by Colombian director Simon Brand, features Katherine Moennig and David Oyelowo, who is best known for his turn as Louis Gaines in Lee Daniels' The Butler. Hakeemshady has also appeared in other feature films, including WebGirl,in which he worked behind the camera as a first assistant director and in the role of Prince Hakeem. His passion for filmmaking is perhaps only matched by his devotion to family. When he first arrived in the United States, he worked two jobs in order to send money to his family. It is this connection to his humble beginnings that keeps him grounded.- Additional Crew
Ilhan Omar was born on 4 October 1982 in Mogadishu, Somalia. She is known for Knock Down the House (2019), Walking Without Fear and Jacksepticeye (2012).- Fatima Siad was born on January 1, 1986, in Mogadishu, Somalia. She grew up as a child of three (girls) from parents of mixed African ancestry (her mother is Somali, and her father is Ethipoian). She is also a child of divorce, and has said that she used to live in a "shack, with no running water." During the Civil War in Somalia, Fatima's two sisters were killed, and when she was thirteen her mother immigrated to America with her. They lived in Boston, Massachusetts, for a time, and Fatima attended Bryn Mawr College in 2004, attended Spelman College in Atlanta, GA for one year in 2006, and then transferred to New York University, pre-med (also to study political science).
When Fatima became a finalist on America's Next Top Model, she gained much sympathy with her early admission of having been circumcised when she was seven years old. Immediately recognized as stunningly beautiful, she went far in the competition -- she was even able to progress when she lost her passport in Atlanta, Georgia (which she needed in order to go overseas), although she missed that week's photo-shoot to settle things with customs/immigration. Fatima ended up placing third in the competition, behind Anya Rozova (runner-up) and Whitney Thompson (winner).
After Cycle 10 of America's Next Top Model was over, Fatima transferred back to Bryn Mawr College. - Abdiaziz Ali is a Somalian freelance journalist with photography and video editing skills, mainly covering news in Somalia and East Africa. She moved from Somalia to Toronto, Canada when she was fifteen. Warsame began modeling in 2000 with a booking for the Sears catalog in Toronto. She was in her early 20s - and five months pregnant with her son Hamzah - when she accepted this shoot. She worked as a fashion model in Canada for almost two years. Her look, however, was considered too "haute couture" for the local scene, making work scarce. So, in the summer of 2002, Warsame headed to Paris. In that year her break-through came by a feature for the Italian Vogue, photographed by Steven Meisel. Since then has been very busy on the fashion scene, walking the runway for L.A.M.B, Doo Ri, Jeanne Lanvin, Jean-Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Oscar De La Renta, Fendi, and Dolce & Gabbana. She has graced the covers of magazines such as Vogue and Trace, and has been in multiple ads.
