NYC Gets a Treat
21 August 2008 11:01 AM, PDT
Finally! Finally we know when and how we can see Mike Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat on the big scree! All you have to do is ... be in New York.
Fangoria announced today that Trick ‘r Treat will have a showing at the city’s Two Boots Pioneer theater on Monday, October 13th. Dougherty will be in attendance to intro the film and take part in a Q&A after.
The screening will be free, but you need to hit up the Fango link to learn how you can make sure you’ll have a set for this, which if things keep going the way they have for the film may be one of the only times it actually plays on the big screen!
While you’re there, don’t forget to look into their screening of Trailer Park of Terror (review) going down on Friday, October 3rd. This is

Extended It's Alive Trailer Unearthed
21 August 2008 9:23 AM, PDT
An extended trailer for the upcoming killer baby remake It's Alive! has found its way on to the net, and honestly it doesn't look half bad.
Clocking in at four minutes long the trailer, which Bloody Disgusting dug up right after it was pulled from YouTube, shows quite a bit, but one thing bothers me ... unless it goes through some sort of Kafka inspired metamorphosis the baby looks pretty normal. While I'm partial to the little clawed devil of days gone by, this one still looks to be worth a shot if only for Bijou Phillips and the body count.

Dinner for Fiends: Reflecting on Mirrors
21 August 2008 1:41 AM, PDT
Another highly anticipated horror movie has come and gone in theaters this past weekend and while I was really holding out hope Alexandre Aja’s Mirrors (review) would be as good as it looked, I guess I should’ve known better.
The latest Dinner for Fiends is all about Mirrors, well most of it is, and boy do Creepy and Foy have a lot to say about it. Meanwhile, Buz “Danger” Wallick and I just sit back and enjoy their recapping of pretty much the entire film...
Utilize the links below to get your ears wrapped around our latest horror discussion! Figure out what strange new word comes into play this week and you could win a date with Foy ... as soon as we get him out of that freezer he’s been stuck in for the last week.

Trick 'r Treat Direct to DVD?
21 August 2008 1:32 AM, PDT
While I hope this turns out to be just a rumor, unfortunately there’s too much validity in it to ignore. The Styd guys heard from one of their readers today that, since Warner Bros. have no plans to release Mike Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat in theaters, there’s a good chance we’ll only be seeing it on DVD.
When I asked our Warner Bros rep flat-out if they’d be releasing this, their reply was simply “no” ... but that doesn’t mean that Warner Home Video won’t be putting it out, does it? Given Warner's newfound success with the Raw Feed line and other direct-to-dvd titles, this really wouldn’t surprise me in the least.
But as of now, nothing is confirmed one way or another. Getting a straight answer of anyone that has anything to do with Trick ‘r Treatis akin to pulling the teeth out of a horny alligator,

21 August 2008 1:18 AM, PDT
Just the other day we mentioned Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet for the first time, pointing out that those of you going to Monster Mania this weekend will get a chance to see some very cool stuff from the film.
Today the film’s creators dropped a sexy 7-minute “making of” featurette in our laps, which will serve to either build your anticipation for seeing more of it at the show this weekend or, for those of you unable to go, hopefully fill in the void your absence will created. So everyone wins!
Dig the video below and keep it here for more from Blood Night very soon!

New Friday the 13th Doccumentary Rolls
20 August 2008 4:52 PM, PDT
Cameras are currently rolling on a new Friday the 13th documentary called His Name Was Jason, which will be airing on Starz in February of 2009, just in time to build the hype for the February 13th release of the new F 13 remake.
The doc is being helmed by Crystal Lake Memories editor Daniel Farrands for Anchor Bay Entertainment, and it’s being produced by the same team behind Halloween: 25 Years of Terror (review).
The team behind the doc are collecting all sorts of personalities to be interviewed for it, including Uncle Creepy, discussing the impact the films have had on their personal lives and pop culture in general. Our own Andrew Kasch is helping out on the project, as well, so hopefully we’ll be getting more goodies on His Name Was Jason very soon!

New Friday the 13th, Burrowers Imagery
20 August 2008 4:24 PM, PDT
The Toronto International Film Festival is just around the corner, and with it will come one movie that I’ve been looking forward to for the last few years; J.T. Petty’s The Burrowers. Big monsters in the Old West? Yes please!
Today Bloody Disgusting got their grimy paws on a stack of new images from the film, which you can see in their entirety by clicking the teaser image to your right. Nothing showing the monsters, of course, but it’s still pretty cool to finally be seeing something from this sucker.
The B-d boys also go their hands on a brand- new image of Jason Voorhees moments before doing what he does best, slaughtering someone, from the upcoming Friday the 13th remake. Click on the teaser image below to see the whole thing!

Unstable Ground Announces Eternal Feature
20 August 2008 11:01 AM, PDT
Just got some good news from the folks at Unstable Ground that a feature film version of their cool vampire short film “Ending the Eternal” is on its way. A press release sent out today confirms that The Eternal, as it will be called, is one of three films the Canadian production house is planning for; the other two are titled Deliver Us and New Generation, but no more details were given on them.
“Ending the Eternal”, the short, is the story of a 500-year-old vampire who just wants to die with some dignity, but good help is hard to find. Justin McConnell (Working Class Rock Star) is slated to direct the feature. It’ll be interesting how they expand the storyline; if the whole film will be about this vampire trying to die, that could be a lot of fun.
More info on the planned film is available at the official Eternal site,

Gremlins Attack VOD!
20 August 2008 1:15 AM, PDT
Since we’ve not had a new It Came From the Internet in a while and it’s a slow news day (seems everyone wants to talk about the Poltergeist remake more than anything else), here’s something to both keep you busy for 7 minutes and take your mind off unwanted remakes.
Loyal reader “Rob” shot us an e-mail with a link to the below video, an incredibly well done fan-made alternate Gremlins 2 scene. Instead of the monsters bursting through on a broken film reel like they did in Joe Dante's underrated sequel, they put themselves in films like Tim Burton’s Batman, Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Exorcist through the wonders of Video on Demand! It’s a helluva lot of fun and looks damn good, so enjoy!
Look for a full It Came From the Internet very soon!

Meth Bikers Vs. Travellers in Exit Speed
20 August 2008 1:04 AM, PDT
Just imagine the scenario; all you want to do is kick back on a nice, quiet bus ride across the vast, dull expanse of Texas, but a gang of meth-addicted bikers just will not let you get some shut eye. What would you do?
Well, the ten strangers in Exit Speed don’t have to wait long to find out their reaction to this rather unique situation: They fight back. Trapped in the desert with nothing but crazy bikers surrounding me, I think I’d find a bit of tough guy in me, too.
Fred Ward (Tremors), Desmond Harrington (Wrong Turn), Alice Grecyzn (Shrooms) and Lea Thompson (Back to the Future) make up the rather eclectic cast of Exit Speed, a new thriller from Sabbatical Pictures & Peach Arch Entertainment. We just got word that Speed will have its North American premiere on August 26th in Dallas, TX at the Studio Movie Grill.

Mancini Talks Child's Play Reboot
20 August 2008 12:06 AM, PDT
Despite what they say, I just don’t get why the Child’s Play franchise needs a reboot. A new film that picks up where Seed ended could be pretty damn cool if they kept it dark, but at least series creator Don Mancini’s doing it himself.
In a recent lengthy chat with AICN, Manicini and producer David Kirshner discuss the upcoming 20th Anniversary DVD (pre-order it here), as well as the impending remake. The first bit of good news? Brad Dourif will be back as the voice of Chucky. ”If you could recast it,” Mancini said, ”you would want the actor to sound kind of like it, but it would feel weird to just be completely different I think.”
Going back to my comments about a sequel instead of a remake, Mancini also offered up a rationale for starting the franchise over that draws on that idea. ”I

Boogeyman Scribes to Pen Poltergeist
19 August 2008 1:54 PM, PDT
Poltergeist just cries for a remake, doesn't it? There's no way any of the young kids today can relate to a film without high-def TVs, cellphones and MTV approved actors! Yes, it totally needs an update...
According to THR, the writing duo of Stiles White and Juliet Snowden, both credited with created the screenplay for the upcoming Birds remake and the snorefest known as Boogeyman, have been tapped to pen the redo of Tobe Hooper's classic Poltergeist.
I can't say this is good news. Boogeyman couldn't scare anyone over the age of 15. So, how exactly are these two going to properly remake Poltergeist when nothing they've written so far managed to outdo the 26-year-old original?

Blood Night at Monster Mania 11!
19 August 2008 7:27 AM, PDT
I keep hearing about Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet in that strange way that a film’s title will become implanted in your brain without you really understanding why. So I guess it was inevitable we mention it in these pages, eh?
The film’s creators just dropped us a line with word that the opening scene of Blood Night will be on display at this weekend’s Monster Mania convention in Cherry Hill, NJ (home of Harold & Kumar’s White Castle), where Nomad & I will be kicking ass and taking names all weekend. A Blood Night panel featuring director Frank Sabatella, producer Frank Mosca, makeup man Jeremy Selenfriend and stars Danielle Harris, Samantha Hahn and Nate Dushku is scheduled for Saturday, where the footage will debut.
Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet is about a group of teens (groan) celebrating the titular annual festivities

Fantastic Fest Celebrates the Best Kills
19 August 2008 1:28 AM, PDT
Those of you lucky enough to be heading out to this year’s Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX (September 18th-25th), be sure to bring along your absolute favorite gore movie to share with your fellow sickos because the organizers are planning on at least one grue-soaked evening of mayhem!
On Monday, September 22nd, Fantastic Fests will host their first of what we hope is many Interactive 100 Best Kills party! They’ll be showing off clip after clip of heads exploding, bodies being eviscerated, limbs forcibly removed, and other violations of painful demises for your iron-stomach loving pleasure. So what makes it interactive, you ask?
No, they’ll not be re-enacting some of their favorite deaths on audience members (that was my suggestion; apparently there are “legal” issues with it though) but instead are offering fans the chance to show off their personal favorite gore moments. Just show up with

Full Moon's Sequelmania 2009
19 August 2008 12:57 AM, PDT
We already know how much Charles Band loves puppet terrors. Judging by the new slate of Full Moon films Band has announced for next year, it would seem he loves sequels almost as much.
If you asked me, the only sequel I'm really jonesing for from Band would be a follow-up to his pre-Full Moon alien fight-fighting flick Arena. Given the current popularity of ultimate fighting, now would be a perfect time to revist his ultimate monster fighting in outer space flick. Sadly, Arena 2 is not in the works. The six Full Moon sequels slated for DVD store shelves in 2009 are as follows...
Puppet Master: Axis of Evil - Band has been talking of wanting to do a new Puppet Master movie for ages and now it seems like it will actually come to fruition. Fyi: The Sci-Fi Channel's Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys movie doesn't count because

Warners Goes Deeper, Bluer
19 August 2008 12:41 AM, PDT
I can’t believe we’re sitting here, months later, and still worrying about an actor’s strike. The writer’s strike was bad enough; why do we have to go through this again? Can't Hollywood set aside its differences so Deep Blue Sea 2 can finally be made!?
Moviehole has learned through some insider sources at Warner Bros. that the studio’s direct-to-dvd line plans to bring the wicked smart sharks back to the small screen. A minuscule budget will likely be in place so at best they might get L.L. “My Hat is Like a Shark’s Fin” Cool J back, but don't hold your proverbial breath. They’ll never top Sam Jackson getting eaten by a terrible CG shark, but I do hope they try.
Right now there are only writers attached to Deep Blue Sea 2, but Warners apparently wants this thing out next year so expect

Dean Cain, Maneater?
19 August 2008 12:27 AM, PDT
You know things are askew in Hollywood when Dean Cain joining a film warrants a mention in The Hollywood Reporter. I don’t really know how it’s possible, but for some reason the fact that Cain has signed on for Michael Emanuel’s Maneater is trade-worth information...
Maneater follows a former FBI profiler, now a small town sheriff, who begins to look into a series of murders derived from a local Native American legend. He soon discovers that the monster responsible may be himself.
Conrad Jenis (The Cable Guy), Walter Phalen (House of 1000 Corpses), Lacy Phillips (Pushing Twilight) and Stephen Lunsford will be joining Cain in Emanuel’s directorial debut. This is the second of ten planned independently financed films from Canal Street, the first being The Uninvited, which features most of the same cast.

Zombies to Strip on DVD
18 August 2008 1:58 PM, PDT
Though it has been available via most "on-demand" cable providers for a while now, Zombie Strippers is soon coming to your homes in DVD format thanks to Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
Due out just before Halloween, October 28th to be exact, Zombie Strippers is going to come packed not only with a bunch of weird and gross gore but also with a lot of special features. Pretty impressive for a direct-to-video movie about zombie pole dancers starring Jenna Jameson and Freddy.
Commentary track with filmmaker Jay Lee and stars Robert Englund, Jenna Jameson, and Joey Medina Deleted and extended scenes The Champagne Room: Making Zombie Strippers featurette The Dressing Room: Zombie Makeup featurette - Syxx
