A Hot Pair of Pics from Sorority Row
8 January 2009
Among the spate of remakes (or "reimaginings") this year you'll find Sorority Row , a redo of 1983's The House on Sorority Row . Summit Entertainment releases the film, directed by Stewart Hendler, on October 2nd and they've been kind enough to pass along two photos and a synopsis. When five sorority girls inadvertently cause the murder of one of their sisters in a prank gone wrong, they agree to keep the matter to themselves and never speak of it again, so they can get on with their lives. This proves easier said than done, when after graduation a mysterious killer goes after the five of them and anyone who knows their secret... Sounds close enough to the original. Briana Evigan, Rumer Willis, Audrina Patridge and Carrie Fisher star. Click on the preview image...

Taylor Lautner Reprising Twilight Role
7 January 2009
Despite rumors that he would be replaced, Taylor Lautner will reprise his role as Jacob Black in New Moon , Summit Entertainment's sequel to its hit Twilight . Summit and director Chris Weitz made the announcement Wednesday. In New Moon , the Jacob Black character becomes a central figure in the plot as Bella Swan is drawn into the world of the werewolves, the ancestral enemies of vampires. Weitz noted there has been speculation about whether Lautner could portray the character who goes through many changes physically, including growing taller and bulkier and aging 10 years. The 16-year-old Lautner has been spending time in the gym, trying to add 19 pounds of muscle. Weitz added that Lautner is "emotionally right" for the part. Lautner joins castmates...

Selene is Back for Third Underworld
7 January 2009
In a sense. Today, ShockTillYouDrop.com had the opportunity to swing on down to Luma Pictures in Venice, California where director Patrick Tatopoulos previewed a number of scenes from his upcoming Underworld: Rise of the Lycans . While there, we got to talking with one crew member who revealed the threequel will open and close with Selene (as played by Kate Beckinsale). When asked if it was new footage, we were told it was a scene from Len Wiseman's 2003 Underworld that will be used to bookend this prequel. So this next installment will not be Beckinsale-less after all. Stay tuned for more on our visit to Luma in the coming days!

Shock Talk: Horror Directors Do Comedy Pt. 1
7 January 2009
It's been said that dying is easy, comedy is hard. But for the directors of XBox Live's first original series, both carry equal weight and appear to be a breeze. Having slaughtered innocents in films such as Slither , Saw , 30 Days of Night and Hatchet , directors James Wan, James Gunn, David Slade, Andrew Douglas, Peter Cornwell, Adam Green and Lucky McKee stepped outside of their genre comfort zone for a series of comedy shorts which began running on XBox Live on November 26th. This endeavor is produced by Peter Safran and Jake Zim of Safran Digital Group and creator James Gunn; the U.S. Air Force hopped on board as a sponsor. And although one could argue that many of these directors imbued some of their past fright flicks with a doses of black humor, this latest...

Whedon Meets Cruise About a Cabin
7 January 2009
Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard's script for the horror film The Cabin in the Woods is hot property. One of those projects veiled in secrecy and distributed quietly throughout Hollywood with a "please shred after reading" note attached. What's it about? We don't have a clue. The matter-of-fact title should grant you an indication as to where the narrative is set. Where it goes from there is anyone's guess. Goddard, who's also directing, is no stranger to mystery - he penned last year's Cloverfield . So where does Tom Cruise come in? In an interview over at the newly redesigned Sci-Fi Wire, Whedon says he had a chat with the actor and head of United Artists, the company shepherding the project. "We met with him to hear his suggestions, sort of his take on...

Dead Snow Clip Lops It Off at the Wrist
7 January 2009
Okay, not at the wrist, more like the elbow - but we've seen this situation before. A man. A chainsaw. Amputation. And you know what? It never gets old, so give this third clip from the Norwegian zom-com Dead Snow a taste. Then follow it up with these two clips if you haven't seen 'em. Tommy Wirkola's flick - about a group of teenagers on holiday who are hunted by a Nazi zombie battalion haunting the mountains - plays to the Sundance crowd this month. Bastards.

Magnet Doin' the Mutant Chronicles Mash
6 January 2009
Simon Hunter's Mutant Chronicles has been snatched up by genre distributor Magnet Releasing (a Wagner/Cuban Company and a division of Magnolia Pictures). And as part of the Wagner/Cuban Companies' Ultra VOD program, the sci-fi horror actioner will premiere on VOD on Friday, March 27th, 2009, followed by a theatrical release in select cities on Friday, April 24th. (Interesting, there's nothing that confirms Fangoria's previous report that it was heading direct to the Sci-Fi Channel .) Mutant Chronicles is set in the year 2707, on an unrecognizable Earth where a war is raging between four giant corporations who control the planet as they battle over the planet's dwindling resources. This war is soon rendered irrelevant when an errant bomb shatters an ancient buried seal,...

Hi-Res Stills from Last House on the Left
6 January 2009
One remake I think will surprise you later this year (in a rather positive way) is Rogue Pictures' The Last House on the Left , a re-telling of Wes Craven's notorious loved/hated film, and today we've got three hi-res stills from the film to share with you. Director Dennis Iliadis dropped his trousers and showed he had the balls to tackle this uncomfortable tale of two girls who fall victim to a trio of predators (led by Garret Dillahunt who does a deft job of filling Krug's shoes) and the parents who seek violent revenge for their crime. Garret Dillahunt, Aaron Paul, Sara Paxton, Martha MacIsaac, Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter star. No release has been set yet. Originally, we were hearing a possible April debut, but that may have changed now that Rogue Pictures is in the...

Michael Myers Went Down to Georgia
6 January 2009
Rob Zombie needs a change of scenery. In 2007, he utilized Pasadena and its quaint neighborhoods for his Halloween redo. Apropos considering that's where most of John Carpenter's film set up shop during principal photography. For H2 ( Halloween 2 ), however, the streets of Haddonfield will be recreated in Atlanta, Georgia. That's where Production Weekly says the sequel will begin lensing near the end of February (not sure where all of this talk about shooting in January began). Meanwhile, more casting sides were leaked onto the web yesterday. SpoilerTV got the scoop on a load of characters who will wind up dead. Check out those details here . And finally, Bloody-Disgusting is reporting Danielle Harris may be back to reprise her role as Annie Brackett.

Release Month for Friday the 13th 4-6 DVDs
6 January 2009
Following up on yesterday's report , we have now learned Paramount is planning on releasing those special editions of Friday the 13th of parts four through six this June . That's not too long of a wait, I suspected they would have arrived in the fall. It is likely that Paramount's timing the release of these discs to coincide with the DVD bow of the new Friday the 13th film. Also, there are rumblings that Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood and Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan special editions may not be far behind. We'll keep you posted.

Exclusive Interview with Director Jon Harris
6 January 2009
"I will be very satisfied when it's finished. It's very hard to describe it when you're in the process." - Jon Harris, director of The Descent: Part 2 . After a long-awaited pause I bang in the final nail to finish up my coverage of The Descent: Part 2 and catch a busy Jon Harris in the editing suite. It's been a few months since I had the privilege of visiting the set and meeting the cast and crew on behalf of ShockTillYouDrop.com. So, I had decided to let Jon chill after the shoot and settle into the edit. I briefly introduced myself at the Eden Lake FrightFest party and arranged to chat to Jon where he really shines. Later, I was invited to see him at one of London's top post editing houses which was very cool and impressive. I catch Jon tucked away in a...

Remake Watch '09: Fright Night is Dead
6 January 2009
All too often it seems our headlines have been littered with nothing but news about remakes. Let's switch that up with this: The proposed Fright Night update is dead. A pile of ash. Just like Jerry Dandrige, the bloodsucker who met a fiery fate thanks to two brave vampire hunters. A bit of back story: In 2007, Sony's Screen Gems was fielding pitches for a proposed remake of Fright Night . Except what the producers wanted sounded something more akin to The Funhouse than the "boy who cried wolf" tale of a young man and his discovery of a vampire who has moved in next door. ( More details here .) Later, in March of '08 , the original's director, Tom Holland, went in to chat about the remake, a sequel and other matters. Insiders tell us, since then, the Fright...

Harry Warden doesn't discriminate. Big or small, he'll cut you down with his pick axe as you'll see in this new 40-second clip from My Bloody Valentine 3D , director Patrick Lussier's redo of the '81 slasher film. Not only do you get Harry in action, you'll also find actress Betsey Rue hiding beneath the bed. She apparently a scene-stealer in the film. Jaime King, Jensen Ackles, Kerr Smith and Edi Gathegi co-star in this January 16th release.
