When Pacino took the Best Actor Oscar for Scent Of A Woman, besting the likes of Denzel Washington in Malcolm X and Stephen Rea in The Crying Game, it felt ironically like one of the great actors of his generation had been lost to us. Gone was the quiet, tortured, soulful introspection of Pacino's work in classics like The Godfather Part II and Serpico.
