“The Olivia Rodrigo [episode] was really weird because I remember her and those girls,” he told the magazine. “It was me, Zooey, and the girls, and they were such sweet kids. And some kid actors are just good.”

Zooey Deschanel has been in the public eye for nearly three decades, and she's accomplished quite a bit in her lifetime. She made her film debut in the 1999 film "Mumford," but arguably became well-known after starring in the beloved 2003 Christmas flick "Elf." Following her success from "Elf," Deschanel appeared in a number of popular movies throughout the remainder of the 2000s, including "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," "Yes Man," and the indie rom-com "500 Days of Summer" alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Film is not the only place Deschanel is popular, however. She is also well-known for her role as Jessica Day in the sitcom "New Girl" and for being one half of the music duo She & Him. Currently, she hosts a cooking show on Max called "What Am I Eating?" and stars as Kelly in the third season of AppleTV+'s "Physical."

New Girl aired on Fox from 2011 until 2018. While fans of the series would have liked to see it continue, the series ended in a satisfying way. Fans got to see Jess Day, Nick Miller, Schmidt, Cece Parekh, Winston Bishop, and even Coach all find love and move past the roommate phase of life when the show ended. It still hasn’t stopped fans from hoping for a reboot, so what exactly is the cast of New Girl up to these days?
Zooey Deschanel has been trying out different entertainment jobs in recent years
Zooey Deschanel, the actor who portrayed Jessica Day in New Girl, was already well-known when she signed onto the series. She had a successful movie career before the series. Some fans assumed she’d head right back to the big screen, but she didn’t do that following the sitcom’s end. Instead, she expanded her horizons...

Zooey Deschanel doesn’t need you to like her.
Sure, the California native has spent almost two decades bringing her signature deadpan comedy and effortless emotion to screens big and small. She went from a few television appearances to a part in the rock film Almost Famous, and followed it up with major starring roles in Elf, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy, and 500 Days of Summer — all of which became cult classics. Zooey Deschanel definitely isn't against more "New Girl." In an April 3 interview with the Wall Street Journal, the actor and musician shared that while she "wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life doing reboots," if she had to pick one project to revamp, it would be "New Girl." "I definitely had a wonderful time and would be very happy to revisit," she said.
Deschanel played Jessica Day on "New Girl" from 2011 to 2018, starring alongside Jake Johnson, Lamorne Morris, Max Greenfield, and Hannah Simone. Her interview isn't the first time a cast member has discussed a return to the comedy, though not everyone is so ready to jump right back in. Greenfield, for example, has shared some reservations about a reboot. "I think if Liz [Meriwether] wanted to do it, who created the show, obviously, she thought there was some way back in," he told E! News in October 2022. "It...

Netflix subscribers who love shows about a quirky group of roommates will have one less show to watch. New Girl will fall off of the streaming service provider’s roster on April 17, much to the dismay of its longtime fans. There is no reason to despair, though. Jessica Day and her unlikely roommates will move to two new streaming service providers on the very day they depart from Netflix.
‘New Girl’ has been on Netflix for almost a decade
Seeing New Girl leave Netflix on April 17 is kind of a big deal. Not only is the series one of Netflix’s most heavily streamed but it’s been on the platform for a long time. New Girl premiered on Netflix in the summer of 2013, long before the series wrapped its broadcast run.

When New Girl ended in 2018, fans saw a satisfying conclusion. After season after season of near romantic misses, the show’s three main couples were together and happy. Jessica Day and Nick Miller were the last of the group to figure it out, but Jake Johnson, the actor who played Nick Miller for all seven seasons, thinks Nick and Jess made it last long after the final episode of New Girl.
Jake Johnson has thoughts on where Nick and Jess are today
Jake Johnson thinks Nick and Jess are still together. The famed actor appeared on a panel at SXSW and happily discussed where his character would be today. According to IndieWire, Johnson is confident that Nick and Jess would be just as blissfully happy today as they were when the show ended in May 2018.

The series follows Jess Day (Deschanel), who needs a place to stay after a particularly bad breakup. She finds a fantastic loft, but she’ll have to put up with three guy roommates in order to live there. Nick (Jake Johnson) is the most down-to-earth of the group, Schmidt (Max Greenfield) is the very definition of “extra,” while Winston (Lamorne Morris) tries to figure out his next life moves after his athletic career ends. The enduring rom-sitcom subgenre changed forever when “New Girl” walked through the front-door of 4D. On September 20, 2011, bonafide television genius Liz Meriwether — then known for the Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher-starring film “No Strings Attached” — debuted the pilot episode of what would become her breakout comedy series on Fox.
Starring Zooey Deschanel as the terminally optimistic school teacher Jessica Day — nicknamed Jess — “New Girl” told the story of six friends brought together by their chaotic lives in Los Angeles. Hannah Simone played Jess’s best friend Cece: a fiercely funny and protective model wary of her friend’s new living situation.
At the loft, Jake Johnson, who had previously appeared in indie gem “Paper Heart” as well as the Russell Brand-starring “Get Him to the Greek,” dazzled in his breakout role as Nick: a dyed-in-the-wool good guy and bartender whose low self-esteem leaves him unlucky in love. Max Greenfield...

In the episode, Hannah recalled the particular scene that she and Zooey were filming when everything was going down. Warning: contains Brooklyn Nine-Nine spoilers.
Brooklyn Nine Nine is one of the funniest sitcoms around thanks to its fantastic ensemble cast and just-broad-enough humour blended with almost-realistic cop show elements. But that great regular cast are supported by an equally brilliant array of recurring characters and guest stars. In this list, we’re celebrating the funniest of the show’s less often-seen characters, those guest appearances who’ve turned up once or twice to inject a fresh burst of comic energy into the show.
Note that we’re not counting regular recurring characters like Adrian Pimento, Madeline Wuntch, or Kevin Cozner, aka Mr Raymond Holt. If they turn up more than once a year, or in more than three episodes in one season, they’re off the list.
12. Adam Sandler, played by himself in Operation: Broken Feather, Season 1, Episode 15
Adam Sandler’s appearance as himself in Season One is beautifully self-deprecating as well as funny.

This week’s question: Who is your favorite musical guest star on a scripted show? Past and present shows apply.
Ben Travers (@BenTTravers), IndieWire
Aside from the curious acting career of one Sturgill Simpson, I’m not all that interested in musicians testing out their acting skills. The elements of performance that tie the two pursuits together can make a singer an enticing screen presence, but it’s usually their appearance on the show that spikes my interest before any of their music — if they’re a good actor, great, but if they’re just there for a ratings hit or to hook music fans, I’m good. That being said, I must say I made sure to watch Bruce Springsteen’s guest stint in the final episode “Lilyhammer.” Appearing as an eccentric mortician,...

The affable “Single Parents” pilot plays out a lot like co-creator Elizabeth Meriwether’s last TV pilot — the Fox hit, “New Girl,” which ended earlier this year. There’s a lone weirdo in trouble, a group of friends who are hesitant to help, and, somewhat inexplicably, the group rallies around the outsider just as their personal crisis peaks.
In “New Girl,” said weirdo is Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel), a grade school teacher spinning out after a bad breakup with her boyfriend. Looking for a new home, she sits down for an interview with three dudes who need a roommate. For those who forgot, Jess pitches herself as a bit of an emotional wreck who sings to herself and watches “Dirty Dancing” on repeat — you know, the ideal roommate. Nevertheless, the guys accept her and even come together at episode’s end to save her from a terrible date.
