- Steven Fredrick's interest in filmmaking began at an early age. During his high school and college years, he made many student films and gained experience in radio and television production. In 1979, Fredrick relocated to Santa Monica, California. From 1980 to 1988, he was employed as a videotape operator at various post-production houses in the Hollywood area. During the mid-1980s, Fredrick appeared as an extra in several television sitcoms and a few feature films. Fredrick is a fan of classic Hollywood movies, vintage radio programs, and the golden age of television. - Attended and graduated from Robbinsdale High School, Robbinsdale, Minnesota.
- Attended Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota.
- Attended and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication, with an emphasis in broadcasting, from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
- Attended screenwriting classes taught by comedy actor/writer Lorenzo Music, staff writer on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and co-creator of "The "Bob Newhart Show." Classes were held at Sherwood Oaks Experimental College in Hollywood, California during the summer of 1979.
