General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal John J. York, who has played Malcolm “Mac” Scorpio for years is back in the Port Charles action after a real-life ordeal. Mirroring the bone marrow drama and the onscreen struggles of Willow Corinthos’ (Katelyn MacMullen) leukemia storyline, after a successful bone marrow transplant Mac’s back in the saddle.
General Hospital Spoilers – John J. York’s Medical Leave Of Absence Started Months Ago
John was diagnosed with two dangerous diseases, myelodysplastic syndromes and multiple smoldering myeloma, forms of bone marrow cancer.
Myelodysplastic syndromes result from something amiss in the spongy material inside your bones where blood cells are made (bone marrow).
Smoldering multiple myeloma (Smm) is a precancerous condition that occurs when plasma cells divide too quickly, producing abnormal cells that can turn into multiple myeloma.
He was diagnosed in September 2023 and by November 2023, donor matches were found. The transplant took place in...

John J. York is bringing Mac back!
That’s right, Mac Scorpio will be back onscreen sometime this summer. While it’s unclear whether the photos were taken when they were shared or before, we can expect to see him some time at the end of June or early July.
Mac has been offscreen after John had to take a leave of absence as he battled blood and bone marrow cancer.
He vowed to return, and he made good on that.
To mark the big occasion, John wore his “Mac is Back” t-shirt as he posed with long-time friend and onscreen wife Kristina Wagner (Felicia) and his secret TV son, Cody (Josh Kelly).
It was a reunion that everyone was excited about.

Kirsten Storms has been a part of General Hospital for nearly two decades.
Viewers have come to love the legacy character of Maxie. The daughter of supercouple Felicia (Kristina Wagner) and Frisco Jones (Jack Wagner) has been through so much.
From getting Bj’s (Brighton Hertford) heart to her non-wedding to Spinelli (Bradford Anderson), there are many memorable moments from her storylines over the years.
However, Kirsten has received some harsh criticism over the years. If she gained weight, the critics came for her.
Most recently, though, there’s been plenty of chatter about Maxie and her wardrobe. She was supposed to be the fashion icon of Port Charles, but viewers didn’t love what she was wearing.
After heavy criticism, Kirsten finally opened up about what happened with Maxie’s wardrobe and how she feels more like herself, which is shown on General Hospital.

“I’ve been hacked on twitter,” Big Brother alum Felicia Cannon wrote on Instagram.
“Sahana, get out of my twitter account,” she concluded the post.

Exclusive: Stephan Elliott, who directed the celebrated cult classic The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, tells this column that a sequel “is happening” and that the original movie’s stars Terence Stamp, Guy Pearce and Hugo Weaving are back “on board” 30 years after the film’s initial release.
“I’m not repeating myself, we’ll start the new film in Australia, but by God, we’re going on one helluva journey,” Elliott reveals.
“The original cast is on board, I’ve got a script that everybody likes, we’re still working out deals. … It’s happening,” he adds with brio.
Since it played a midnight screening in Un Certain Regard at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, Priscilla has become a byword for glittering, extravagant excess. That was a party night to remember; except I was there and all I can remember is getting back to my hotel at 6 a.

Even before Zendaya won an Emmy for starring in the popular HBO original drama Euphoria, she was a prominent figure in the Marvel film industry. Having said that, she is the only member of Sam Levinson’s series’ main cast who remains a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This will undoubtedly change if her Euphoria co-star, Sydney Sweeney, chooses to emulate Zendaya’s footsteps.
We are confident in Sweeney’s ability to carry out a variety of roles because of her work outside of the Cassie Howard role, such as her courageous performance in HBO’s The White Lotus. That is exactly the kind of talent Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, seeks in an actor when deciding who will play the next big Marvel characters on either the small or big screen.

Oscar-nominated sound mixer Steve Morrow has recorded quite a few party scenes in his career, in movies such as “Don’t Worry Darling,” “The Prom” and “Babylon.”
When it came to Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro,” Morrow had to figure out how to capture the sound in a prominent party scene that takes place at the Bernstein family apartment in the Dakota Building in New York. It’s a key moment that transitions the film from black and white to 1970s color, anchored by Carey Mulligan’s Felicia smoking a cigarette, staring out the window at Central Park while a bustling party surrounds her.
Morrow knew how the film would transition visually, but his team was tasked with capturing sound from both Felicia’s and Lenny’s (Cooper) circles. “We filmed it at the same time,” explains Morrow. “I’m listening to both parties happening and trying to understand who’s saying what and when.

London, Feb 19 (Ians) Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan, who have been nominated for Best Actor and Best Actress for their roles as composer Leonard Bernstein and his wife Felicia in ‘Maestro’, made their way together down the red carpet, reports BBC.
Cooper, who also directed the film, said the music “is the actual guiding light of the whole film because it’s scored to (Bernstein’s) music”.
He also paid tribute to Mulligan, saying: “It was always joyful, every time I got excited to do a scene with her. It was just effortless.”
On bringing the relatively unknown Felicia to life, Mulligan, according to BBC, said it “wouldn’t have been possible” without the help of the Bernstein family, and added: “I felt like they couldn’t have been more generous.”

The producers behind “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “Maestro” and more Oscar-nominated films sat down to break down their respective projects at Variety FYC Fest: The Producers. General Hospital has lost its way, and adding cast members with little to no significance to the current cast has been par for the course.
The cast is so bloated, yet many longtime fan favorites have been on the back burner for so long that what was simmering is probably stuck to the pot.
Over the years, the show has morphed from the hospital drama to being more focused on the mob scene, run by none other than Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).
Whether viewers want to admit it or not, he has become the face of the show. He is on nearly every day and often is the center of focus for several big storylines on the daytime drama.
However, some of us remember the days of great storylines that happened at the hospital. The nursing staff has dwindled, and the doctors are few and far between these days.

In the challenging pathways of artistic pursuit, where creativity weaves with personal identity, Maestro boldly departs from conventional narratives that often romanticize the professional struggles of an artist. Instead, it immerses itself in the intricate symphony of emotions shaping the titular genius, Leonard Bernstein (Bradley Cooper). Unhurriedly, the film navigates the delicate balance between his love for his wife, actor Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein (Carey Mulligan), and family, and the clandestine currents of same-sex relationships swirling within him. Leonard’s struggle extends beyond concert halls and compositions; it reaches into the private realms of his identity, where family life clashes with a diverse spectrum of love and desire. At the heart of this melodic journey lies the delicate force of love, a muse that wafts through the composer’s mind like a gentle breeze carrying the sweet fragrance of inspiration. The film not only celebrates the artistic genius of its...

The crucial moment in “Maestro,” when Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein furiously conducts Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection” at England’s Ely Cathedral in 1973, marks the culmination of Kazu Hiro’s remarkable transformation of the actor-director as the musical legend. This will likely earn the prosthetic makeup guru his third Oscar (following “Bombshell” and “Darkest Hour”).
Like Cooper, this was a passion project for Hiro, who dreamed of sculpting Bernstein’s face ever since he fell under its spell watching a documentary at the age of 19. Thus, the collaboration between actor-director and makeup artist became a close one in their shared desire to portray Lenny’s iconic look as authentically as possible (covering the ages of 25 to 71 in five stages). They even shared a room together, making it easier to apply the prosthetics in the middle of the night. Hiro had never before encountered anyone as open and communicative as Cooper,...

Everyone possesses a favorite memory when it comes to Chanel, a testament to the strength of the iconography of the legendary French house. That idea was certainly true among the Hollywood stars who turned up on the evening of Feb. 7 for the debut of Chanel’s first U.S. boutique dedicated to fine jewelry and watches, located on New York’s Fifth Avenue in Midtown’s landmark 1921 Crown Building.

Writer, director and actor Bradley Cooper began working on “Maestro” years before the film went into pre-production. One person he turned to early on in that process was his collaborator on his directorial debut (“A Star is Born”), cinematographer Matthew Libatique.
On this episode of the award-winning Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, Libatique discusses his process for shooting one of the most emotional scenes in the film – the Thanksgiving scene where Felicia (Carey Mulligan) finally confronts her husband, Leonard Bernstein (Cooper) over his late nights away from home.
Listen below.
In prepping for “Maestro,” the Oscar-nominated Libatique tells Variety: “What Bradley wanted to do was crack the code on the makeup and how he was going to physically transform into Lenny and working with Kazu.”
The result was a 40-minute proof of concept where they shot actual scenes. It was through that process that Libatique learned about what lenses they liked and what format worked.

Maestro has been the source of numerous controversies since the film went into production, and director and star Bradley Cooper has found himself at the center of many of them. From his divisive decision to wear a prosthetic nose to his revelation that he doesn’t allow chairs on set because they cause “energy dips,” Cooper has not always endeared himself to social media during what some see as an increasingly desperate campaign to win an Oscar.
We won’t know Cooper and Maestro’s final Oscar fate until the 96th Academy Awards air on March 10, but Maestro’s award season has been dismal so far. Despite numerous nominations, the passion project has yet to secure the kinds of big award show wins that usually foretell Oscar success. It’s shaping up to be another entry into Cooper’s “award show bridesmaid” career, which is ironically tragic when you consider...

Updated with full list, more details: The nominations for the 96th Oscars unveiled Tuesday has focused the race around a real Best Picture competition between Universal’s Oppenheimer (13 nominations), Apple Original Films’ Killers of the Flower Moon (10 noms), Searchlight’s Poor Things (11 noms) and Warner Bros’ Barbie (eight noms).
That means an impressive 21 nominations for Barbenheimer, the one-two summer punch that had a collective gross of almost $2.4 billion at the global box office, and did as much to restore moviegoing as Tom Cruise and Top Gun: Maverick did the previous year as the business struggled to rebound from the pandemic. Oppenheimer and Barbie got to fully promote their films right before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that hindered many of the other films that bowed in the fall because guild members were forbidden from stumping for their films.

Each January brings high hopes and bitter disappointments, surprises and snubs. This Tuesday morning was no different when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced their nominations for the best films of 2023. There were some obvious frontrunners who were always going to get in, be it Oppenheimer or The Holdovers, and some that always seemed like at least a strong possibility.
Still, there were plenty on the bubble, so it’s a relief to see Anatomy of a Fall and Past Lives get in. Be that as it may, as an audience member who couldn’t afford to go to the movie theater every weekend, it might be understandable if you feel daunted at seeing so many films just added to your watch list. So if you are trying to get caught up in time for the Academy Awards telecast in March—or just want to know where...

Adam Sandler is questioning his life’s purpose in space with Netflix’s romance drama “Spaceman.”
Sandler, who has an overall Happy Madison production deal with the streaming platform, leads the upcoming feature from “Chernobyl” director Johan Renck. Based on the novel “Spaceman of Bohemia,” the film follows an astronaut (Sandler) who worries that his tenuous marriage may be on the brink of collapse while he’s in space.
Colby Day adapted the novel for the screen, with Channing Tatum and producing partner Reid Carolin behind the upcoming film, along with fellow producers Peter Kiernan, Michael Parets, Tim Headington, Lia Buman, and Max Silva. Director Renck, Ben Ormand, and Barry Bernardi executive produce.
The official synopsis reads: “Six months into a solitary research mission to the edge of the solar system, an astronaut, Jakub (Sandler), realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth.

When “Maestro” director, writer, and star Bradley Cooper wanted to meet with Carey Mulligan to talk about her joining his Leonard Bernstein biopic, it was “a quite dramatic” beginning.
Cooper, who wanted Mulligan to play Bernstein’s wife, Felicia, attended the first preview of her one-woman play “Girls and Boys.” During the show, being staged in New York’s West Village, a piece of wood fell and hit Mulligan’s head. It gave Mulligan a concussion, which she now downplays, calling it a curtain because “it sounds fluffy.”
On this episode of the award-winning Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, Cooper and Mulligan discuss the process of getting into the mindset to play the Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre in Netflix’s “Maestro.” The two break down key scenes, and talk about their favorite acting works from one another. Listen below.

“What’s remarkable is how lucky I have been to work with incredible directors,” “Maestro” screenwriter Josh Singer tells me, referring to such filmmakers as Tom McCarthy, Damien Chazelle (“First Man”), Steven Spielberg (“The Post”) and now Bradley Cooper. He notes how Cooper, the co-writer/director/actor/producer of “Maestro,” shares the same “uncompromising passion” as the other helmers, adding, “He likes to go deep, and he likes to work hard, and he likes to get it right, which is very much how I like to work.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
Cooper stars as American composer Leonard Bernstein and Carey Mulligan plays his wife Felicia Montealegre in Netflix’s high-profile biopic. Singer calls Cooper’s “choices” as an actor and as a director “genius,” especially once he saw “the whole thing put together.” He reveals how Cooper “has that sort of preternatural sense of where he is at...

Josh Singer takes a lot of notes. For an in-demand screenwriter like him that makes sense, but Singer’s latest project, Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein biopic “Maestro,” required even more copious files and neat notes. After all, Singer has been working on it for over a decade.
Over a recent Zoom interview with IndieWire, Singer narrated a little bit of his typical notes-finding experience: “Hold on, let me go into files. I’m going into my Bernstein file, which is very long, and then I’m going into, Ok, here: Essentially, in 2008 [producers] Fred Berner and Amy Durning approached the Bernstein family, and they wound up, over the next two years, negotiating life rights.”
This is just the start of the odyssey. By 2010, the producers started looking for a director. Sometime around 2013, they locked in Martin Scorsese to direct. Soon after, they came knocking at Singer’s door.

From Ridley Scott’s Napoleon to Michael Mann’s Ferrari, this has been a year of biopics about men, by men. But it’s the female powerhouses who deserve equal billing
They say that behind every great man is a great woman. But this has been a year of biopics in which wives have emerged from the great men’s shadows to challenge their menfolk for equal billing. Being yoked to a male “genius” is tough, and the female characters in Oppenheimer, Napoleon, Maestro, Ferrari and Priscilla let them know it. When Leonard Bernstein (Bradley Cooper) gets sloppy about hiding his homosexual affairs from his family, Felicia Montealegre Bernstein (Carey Mulligan) lets rip with: “Your truth is a fucking lie. Bradley Cooper’s new biopic about Leonard Bernstein, Maestro, covers more than 40 years of his life, starting back in the 1940s. Cooper also portrays Bernstein throughout the film, just as Carey Mulligan plays his wife, Felicia, through all of those decades. According to Cooper, covering such a long period of time meant that the production crew had a lot of work to do, in terms of designing authentic looks, sets, and makeup for each of the different periods. Well, it’s that time of year again, ladies and gents. Time for us to assess the year that’s nearly entirely in the rearview mirror and put into some kind of context, I’ve already been on the record about what a great year this has been for film, but I’d yet to break it down for the purposes of ranking stuff. So let’s rectify that little oversight right now, shall we?
Here are my 10 best for both movies and television shows for 2023, in ascending order.
Film
10. “The Color Purple” – The bold new take on the somewhat old classic, to paraphrase the marketing campaign, has been underappreciated in the runup to its wide release early this week (on Christmas Day). It’s powerfully directed (by Blitz Bazawule) and packed with significant performances, particularly Danielle Brooks (who is a shoo-in for an Oscar nomination and may well take home the thing).

"Maestro" is an audacious title for Bradley Cooper's freshly released Leonard Bernstein biopic. Sure, at first glance, it's just referring to the title bestowed upon the conductor of a classic orchestra. Bernstein, one of the great musicians of the 20th century, more than earned the title. However, it ropes back around considering Cooper cast himself in the lead part; he's boasting about what he can do. It's not surprising he sees kinship with Bernstein either, since directing and composing are easily comparable. Both are the art of guiding many moving pieces into a perfect whole.
Cooper was paired with Emma Stone for Variety's Actors on Actors series; the conversation eventually turned to how his acting and directing intersected on "Maestro." Particularly, his difficulties crafting the movie's high point; Bernstein conducting Gustav Mahler's Resurrection Symphony at the Ely Cathedral in England in 1973. The scene, never interrupted by dialogue or copious reaction shots,...

The 2024 Oscars is set for March 10, 2024 in its traditional home, the Dolby Theater. Films released theatrically from January 1 to December 31 of 2023 are eligible for consideration for the 96th annual Academy Awards. Scroll down for our updated 2024 Oscar predictions for Best Picture. (Only movies confirmed for release in 2023 are included; keep checking back as new contenders enter the race.)
Some of the early Oscar hopefuls were launched at Sundance in January and Cannes in May. Four more film festivals — Telluride, Venice, Toronto and New York — will showcase more movies. However, the ongoing writers and actors strikes could reduce the visibility of those contenders. Likewise for those films that forego the festival circuit entirely.
Voting for the 10 shortlisted categories runs from Dec. 14 to 18, with the semi-finalists revealed on Dec. 21. Nominations voting kicks off on Jan. 11, 2024 for six days with the slate of final contenders announced on Jan. 23. Final voting starts on Feb.

Director Bradley Cooper describes “Maestro” as a series of movements through the life of the legendary conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein and his wife, actress Felicia Montealegre. Precisely because the film seeks to chase a more emotional throughline, every aspect of the filmmaking has to evolve, too. The “Maestro” production team didn’t just need to capture a succession of time periods — although they did need to nail those time periods — they needed to visually dramatize the ever-changing dynamic between Lenny (Bradley Cooper) and Felicia (Carey Mulligan). If you’ll forgive the obvious metaphor, every department head had to move in concert with each other and with Cooper’s vision.
