If you have not watched The Girl from Plainville on Hulu yet, you are missing Chloë Sevigny giving one of the best performances of the year. One of the best, as well as one of the hardest to watch, as she is playing Lynn Roy, the real-life mother who comes to realize that her teen son Conrad (Colton Ryan) who died by suicide was goaded into the act by his semi-girlfriend, Michelle Carter (Elle Fanning). Hulu The cast is phenomenal across the board, but it’s Sevigny’s heartbreaking, often silent turn that roots the show deep within the pain of Lynn’s grief and guilt, her ensuing struggle to understand a crippling loss, and then fury at Carter’s complicity. Her scenes with Ryan (who is just devastating) are also some of the sweetest moments throughout the eight episodes, revealing the unshakable love Lynn had for her child and...

While Sevigny worked with a dialect coach and watched interview segments to accurately portray Roy, she did not feel the need to reproduce every aspect of the woman. “It’s not like I have to do an impersonation of someone that’s so well known,...

When Chloë Sevigny was first approached about playing a role in Hulu’s limited series “The Girl From Plainville,” she Googled the real-life case behind it — how the relationship between Michelle Carter and Coco Roy resulted in Roy’s death by suicide in 2014 — to jog her memory, and found herself jarred instead when she came upon a photo of Carter.
“I remember seeing her in magazines, and immediately thinking she was guilty, and being, like, ‘What a bitch,’” Sevigny said with a laugh. “So like, wow: I’m really complicit in seeing this beautiful blonde girl and thinking that just because she’s beautiful and blonde, she’s a demon.”
On the series, Sevigny plays Lynn Roy, the bereft mother of Coco Roy (Colton Ryan). She came to the project late, but was attracted to it in part because of Fanning, who plays Carter. “Huge fan of her choices,” Sevigny said.

Michelle Carter is a free woman, and the debate over whether she ever should have been charged with a crime at all continues. "I was surprised that she even got 11 months," Lynn Roy told People in an interview ahead of the March 29 premiere of the Hulu drama The Girl From Plainville, which revisits the events leading up to her 18-year-old son Conrad Roy III's death by suicide in 2014 and the fallout that ensued. But Lynn was "satisfied" by Michelle's conviction, she said. "I wanted to make a point that [Conrad's] life mattered, and that was the most important thing to me." Michelle was 17 when Conrad died and 20 when a judge found her guilty of...

Hulu's "The Girl From Plainville" examines the real-life story of Michelle Carter's infamous "texting suicide" case. Based on Esquire's 2017 article of the same name, "The Girl From Plainville" stars Elle Fanning as Carter, the Massachusetts teen who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter as a result of her long-distance boyfriend Conrad Roy III's (Colton Ryan) death. Following a string of texts between the two, it was discovered that Carter had encouraged Roy III to go through with his plan to end his life by filling his car with carbon monoxide. Carter's trial is the subject of "The Girl From Plainville," but the dramatized Hulu series also explores the relationship between her and Roy III, as well as the events that led up to his death.
