The producer of Destry Allyn Spielberg’s feature film debut said Thursday that the production has paid its debts to its vendors in New Mexico.
The film, “Please Don’t Feed the Children,” wrapped production last fall, but still owed about $200,000 to various rental houses. The vendors were told several times over the last five months that they would be paid shortly, but those promises went unfulfilled.
In a statement on Thursday, producer Jason Dubin announced that the production had received an investment from Kim and Atty Cleworth, which will allow for completion of the film.
“As of today, every single New Mexico vendor that worked on ‘Please Don’t Feed The Children’ has been issued payment,” Dubin said. “We deeply regret the delay in getting these funds to the incredible artisans of Santa Fe and throughout New Mexico who gave their time and talent to this production.”

Independent filmmaking is no easy task — even if you’re Steven Spielberg’s daughter.
Destry Allyn Spielberg is set to make her feature directorial debut with “Please Don’t Feed the Children,” a low-budget thriller, which was filmed last year in Santa Fe, N.M.
But the film has endured significant financing problems, shutting down just before production was to begin. Production later restarted and wrapped around Thanksgiving, but the project still owes numerous vendors about $200,000, according to emails and interviews.
“All the vendors and crew did everything we could to make this film possible,” the film’s transportation coordinator, Mike Garcia, wrote in an email to Spielberg and the producers in January. “To not pay for their services in return is unacceptable.”
Jason Dubin, the film’s lead producer, said in an interview on Wednesday that the production has recently obtained funding from a new investor in Seattle that will...

Please Don’t Feed The Children: Destry Allyn Spielberg directing horror film, Michelle Dockery stars
Three months ago, it was announced that Destry Allyn Spielberg – a daughter of Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw – would be making her feature directorial debut with an action film called Four Assassins (and a Funeral), which was described as being like “The Kingsman meets Knives Out meets Succession“. But Four Assassins (and a Funeral) wasn’t quite ready to go into production yet, so another project has leap-frogged that one to become Spielberg’s first feature. The “elevated genre film” Please Don’t Feed the Children is now set to start filming in New Mexico next month, with Spielberg at the helm and Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) in the lead.
Spielberg is expected to circle back to Four Assassins (and a Funeral) after Please Don’t Feed the Children is finished.

Hopper Penn, the son of actors Sean Penn and Robin Wright, is weighing in on the nepo baby discourse to say that he isn’t one, and that he doesn’t care if people think he is.
“I don’t give a s— about that, because I’m not one,” Penn told Yahoo! Entertainment when asked if he was concerned with being labeled as a “nepo baby,” a term implying that some children of celebrities are only successful because of their famous parent’s nepotism.
Penn, who stars in “Devil’s Peak” alongside his mother, recalled discussing the topic while on set for “Let Me Go the Right Way,” a 2022 short film that critics tagged as a “nepotism film” due to its involvement with director Destry Allyn Spielberg, the daughter of Steven Spielberg, and writer Owen King, the son of Stephen King.
“It came up when we were shooting,” Penn said.

Steven Spielberg says “it’s exciting for the whole family” that daughter Destry Allyn Spielberg is following in his footsteps by closing a deal to make her feature directorial debut.
The subject came up when The Fabelmans filmmaker dropped by the Smartless podcast to chat with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes. On the new episode, that debuted Monday, Spielberg opens up during a wide-ranging chat about a range of subjects including family, his new film, creative influences, staging, shot direction and even how he clashed with a young actor early on in his career while directing TV.
But it was Bateman who brought up the news that Deadline broke last month about Destry who closed a deal with Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee’s Thunder Road Pictures to make her feature directorial debut on Four Assassins (And a Funeral).

Exclusive: Basil Iwanyk & Erica Lee’s Thunder Road Pictures has set Destry Allyn Spielberg to make her feature directorial debut on Four Assassins (And A Funeral), the Ryan Hooper Black List script said to be a cross between The Kingsman meets Knives Out meets Succession.
The daughter of the famed The Fabelmans helmer, Spielberg drew acclaim for directing The Right Way, the Owen King-scripted short film that starred Hopper Penn and Brian D’Arcy James, which premiered at the last Tribeca. Her work as an actress includes in Licorice Pizza and an episode of the miniseries I Know This Much Is True.
“We watched Destry’s short and were impressed — and after meeting and hearing she wanted to do action, we dug in to find something,” said Thunder Road’s Lee. “Four Assassins is the perfect vehicle for her, and we’re excited what her unique voice will bring to...

Considering how little we’ve seen from it, it’s hard to believe Paul Thomas Anderson is putting the finishing touches on his next feature Licorice Pizza. Will it be a high school ensemble film? A movie about Hollywood? Or about local politics? We wager it may be a mix of all three (and more), and the excitement of not knowing precisely what to expect will hopefully be intact until opening day.
What we do know, however, is it stars Philip Seymour Hoffman’s son, Cooper Hoffman, as well as Bradley Cooper, Alana Haim, Benny Safdie, Nate Mann, Skyler Gisondo, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Destry Allyn Spielberg, Tom Waits, Maya Rudolph and Sean Penn.
Now, after a special theatrical-only debut, the first trailer has been released online, which can be seen below.
Licorice Pizza arrives on November 26 in limited release and expands wide on Christmas.

At long last, Paul Thomas Anderson is ready to share the first look of his new film with the world—well, not the entire world yet. His Phantom Thread follow-up, which had a production title of Soggy Bottom, now has a fresh new name and a trailer that is making the rounds at repertory cinemas from London to LA.
Premiering in front of screenings of American Graffiti and Beavis and Butt-Head Do America at London’s The Prince Charles Cinema, the 35mm trailer then screened last night at LA’s New Beverly between the double feature of Kiss Me Deadly and Repo Man as well as at the American Cinematheque’s Loz Feliz 3 before a screening of Strangers on a Train and at the Aero before Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!.

We’re now a little over two months from the release of a new film by Paul Thomas Anderson and, as has become accustomed, we know almost nothing about it. With a potential title (Soggy Bottom) and a cast including Philip Seymour Hoffman’s son, Cooper Hoffman, as well as Bradley Cooper, Alana Haim, Benny Safdie, Nate Mann, Skyler Gisondo, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Destry Allyn Spielberg, and Sean Penn, the plot is some combination of high school drama, local politics, and Hollywood dealings in the 1970s San Fernando Valley.
As we await the first look, another question that has been on our minds is if Jonny Greenwood––who scored PTA’s previous four films (as well as their work together on Junun)––will return to collaborate with the director. The Radiohead musician is staying busy this fall with the scores for Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog, Pablo Larraín’s Spencer,...
