Apple Original Films announced today that Matthew Vaughn’s action comedy romance feature film Argylle will make its global streaming debut on Apple TV+ beginning Friday, April 12.
Released in theaters on February 2, 2024, the film was rated PG-13 by the MPA for strong violence, action, and some strong language. The film grossed $95.3 million at the worldwide box office, with $45.2 million coming from North American theaters and $50.1 million from international markets.
In anticipation of Argylle‘s streaming debut, K-pop superstars The Boyz have reimagined “Electric Energy,” the Ariana DeBose-led hit from Argylle. The soundtrack and today’s single release of “Electric Energy (Reimagination)” by The Boyz are available on all music streaming platforms.
Originally written by Gary Barlow, Stuart Price, Matthew Vaughn, and Lorne Balfefor for Matthew Vaughn’s razor-witted, reality-bending spy thriller, the song undergoes a remarkable transformation as produced by Stuart Price in collaboration with Lorne Balfe for Platoon.

If you’re in the mood for a light-hearted spy adventure with plenty of twists and turns that will make your head spin, Argylle is set to make its streaming debut later this month. Although director Matthew Vaughn has plans for sequels, he stated that he wanted to wait and see how the first film fared. Unfortunately for Vaughn, it wouldn’t become a success at the box office, earning just $92 million worldwide on a budget of $200 million. After its low performance, the star-studded action comedy will hope to find a second life as it premieres on AppleTV+ on Friday, April 12.
The plot synopsis from Apple reads,

Hollywood isn't investing nearly as much in straight-up comedies as they used to. While 2023 saw many of the best comedies of the year come from the indie and arthouse world. "Barbie" was a big winner last year, but that's a blockbuster doing a lot more heavy-lifting than just bringing laughs, with an adventure fueled by one of the most recognizable intellectual properties of all time. "No Hard Feelings" and "Anyone But You" brought some raunchy, romantic laughs to the proceedings, and we were certainly grateful that Jennifer Lawrence and Sydney Sweeney took risks as producers on R-rated studio comedies like that. Otherwise, most of the laughs come from cross-genre comedy hybrids that have bigger box office potential because of a high-concept story that just so happens to bring some hilarity, such as "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" or "Cocaine Bear."
So how is comedy shaping up in 2024? Unfortunately, with some worrisome box office potential,...

The search for the next 007 might be nearing its end, and to fans’ dismay, Henry Cavill might not be the one to fill Daniel Craig’s shoes in the next iteration of the British Spy. Per new reports, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who was previously rumored to be one of the frontrunners alongside Cavill, has been offered to take over the mantle for the next James Bond film.
While not everyone is enthralled by this report, as many felt Cavill was the superior option for the role, the Kick-Ass Star’s performance in the 2022 action thriller proves why he is perfect for Bond.

The Iron Man saga has had some of the most iconic villains throughout its run, one of which included the fan-favorite, Sam Rockwell. For one who played the ancillary villain, Justin Hammer, in the second installment of the film series, the then-40-year-old actor did an absolutely remarkable job at intimidating the audiences.
Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2
But as intimidating as he seemed in the 2010 film, Rockwell seems quite the opposite in a recent video that has been going viral on the internet. The video is basically a compilation of some of the now-55-year-old actor’s more goofy moments, which has led to one sudden epiphany hitting fans: Rockwell would have been the perfect Deadpool of the ’90s!

Do you know the truth behind the identity of Agent Argylle? Matthew Vaughn's action rom-com for Apple starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sam Rockwell first debuted in theaters on February 2, 2024, but the film is already going to be available to watch at home just over a month later. Centered around a reclusive, cat-loving author named Elly Conway (Howard), the woman finds herself at the center of an espionage thriller right out of the novels she's written when a real-life spy named Aidan (Rockwell) realizes that her books reflect the actions of an actual spy organization. The film itself has been extremely polarizing, with the majority of critics disliking the picture, although /Film's own Ethan Anderton aligned with the majority of audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and liked it quite a bit!

Seeing strong and impactful female characters on TV inspires us, rallying us to do better like these females have done whenever the chips were down.
Some of these characters have inspired us for years, like Svu’s Olivia Benson or Btvs’s Buffy Summers, while other females have only recently hit our TV screens, like The Way Home’s Del Landry. However, these female characters have resonated with us over the years.
Some of the stories may have hit too close to home, like Netflix’s Georgia Miller running from an abusive past, and we cheered her on every step of the way.
We want to honor and recognize these women during National Women’s Month. They’ve taught us that we can achieve our dreams and not let anyone mess with us.
Check out the list below:

Sydney Sweeney’s latest monologue on Saturday Night Live proves that the stars of Madame Web are embarrassed by the film’s poor critical and commercial reception. However, debutante director S.J. Clarkson’s film has managed to crawl past the $80 million mark, which is reportedly the production budget of the film. The Matthew Vaughn-produced The Stuntman is the second in a new trilogy spun out of 2010’s superhero deconstruction, Kick-Ass.
Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle might not have landed in the manner that he’d have liked, but the filmmaker is already busying himself with his next big project. That will be a trilogy of films that are said to spin-off from Kick-Ass, Vaughn’s 2010 mayhem-filled satire of the superhero genre.
The first film in the trilogy is reportedly titled School Fight and focuses on ‘a teenager who fights with a classmate over a mutual romantic interest.’
That one was completed a while ago, with footage being shared as far back as 2022. As it stands though, we still don’t have a release date for the film, but we do know that it was directed by former stuntman Damien Walters, making his directorial debut. Walters also did some second unit directing on the aforementioned Argylle.

“Argylle” may be 2024’s first box-office dud, but that’s not stopping Matthew Vaughn from prepping the next film in his new “Kick-Ass” movies. Variety reports that the second movie in the upcoming trilogy, which culminates in a “Kick-Ass” reboot, is already in production in England, with stunt man-turned-director Damien Walters helming the project. On the Feb. 18 episode of season 12, titled “Vertical Drop, Horizontal Tug,” the lifelong friends were seen riding a golf cart, talking about their Wordle streaks and golf swings. Matthew Vaughn is already deep into producing his next feature film, a caper titled “The Stuntman,” Variety has learned.
Helmed by stunt performer turned director Damien Walters, the film tells the story of two brothers who both become stuntmen.
The feature, which is currently in production, comes from Vaughn’s Marv Studios banner along with Walters’ Zebbo Productions. Last October, they shot in Hampshire, where a local newspaper reported a “1970s-style fun fair” had been installed in the village park, complete with a helter skelter and ferris wheel.
“The Stuntman” is aiming for a launch at Toronto later this year or Sundance in 2025 and is part of a new “Kick-Ass” trilogy, according to Vaughn.
The first film of the trilogy, also produced by Vaughn and directed by Walters, was called “School Fight” and told the story of a teenager who gets into a fight with a love rival at school.

With rumors swirling about Cavill potentially being the next actor to Don the Tuxedo, he once spoke out about how his then upcoming role in the action comedy Argylle might influence his chances.
Henry Cavill in Argylle (2024)
Directed by Matthew Vaughn, Argylle features Cavill in the role of the super spy similar to James Bond. The actor, however, is still optimistic about his prospect of landing the role as he shared that the decision is totally on the James Bond producing duo, Barbara Broccoli, and Michael G. Wilson.

Daniel Craig is an unquestionably charismatic actor, demonstrating remarkable acting prowess since his career’s inception with Casino Royale. His James Bond movies, in particular, have achieved widespread success, with Craig leaving an indelible mark on the franchise. He redefined James Bond with his charming and charismatic action sequences and performances. With him out of the picture now, it appears Michael Caine has one specific Marvel star in mind to portray James Bond.
Casino Royale
Daniel Craig starred in five films as part of the James Bond franchise over the years. Beginning with Casino Royale in 2006, he continued with Quantum of Solace in 2008, followed by Skyfall in 2012, Spectre in 2015, and concluding his run with No Time to Die in 2021.

"Wedding Crashers" and "Anchorman" star Vince Vaughn showed up during the big game alongside two of the greatest sports legends of all time: Tom Brady and Wayne Gretzky. The former Patriots quarterback and NHL hockey legend were seen alongside Vaughn in a BetMGM ad, which aired during this year's Super Bowl between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. While the Chiefs won the game, the commercial was also a winner. But how is it that this became Vaughn's first Super Bowl commercial during his long career that spans more than three decades?
Vaughn recently spoke with Variety about the ad. The ad shows the actor — who is looking like his "Swingers" self in Las Vegas — telling the world at large that BetMGM is for everyone ... except Tom Brady. Why? Because the seven-time Super Bowl champion has won enough. Speaking with the outlet about why he decided to...

Henry Cavill has some opinions about sex scenes, and he is not a fan of them. During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the star of Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle opened up about steamy moments on camera.
During the podcast, Vaughn said he didn’t understand scenes and Cavill added, “I also don’t understand them. I’m not a fan.”
“I think there are circumstances where a sex scene actually is beneficial to a movie rather than just the audience,” the Man of Steel actor said. “I think sometimes they’re overused these days. It’s when you have a sense that you’re going ‘Is this really necessary? Or is it just people with less clothing on?’ and that’s where you start to get more uncomfortable and you’re thinking ‘There’s not a performance here, there’s not a piece which is gonna...

Henry Cavill is opening up about filming intimate scenes in movies and TV shows, and he’s honestly “not a fan” of them.
The Argylle star made a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with director Matthew Vaughn and admitted that he feels those vulnerable moments onscreen should be left to the “human imagination.”

Henry Cavill is not a fan of sex scenes. During an interview on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast with his “Argylle” director Matthew Vaughn, the actor said it is often better for a television series or movie not to show sex scenes and leave it up to the viewer to fill in the pieces as “the human imagination” is far more powerful.
“I don’t understand them – I’m not a fan,” Cavill said about sex scenes. “There are circumstances where a sex scene actually is beneficial to a movie, rather than just the audience, but I think sometimes they’re overused these days.”

It's been a good two years since Daniel Craig's swan song as James Bond, "No Time to Die" and its divisive ending debuted in theaters. But even before Craig's finale arrived, rumors continued to swirl that Henry Cavill was still in the running to take on the role following Craig's retirement. The "Man of Steel" actor had almost clinched the role back in the early 2000s when longtime Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson were casting for 2006's "Casino Royale." Unfortunately for Cavill, he just lost out to Craig -- who reinvigorated the franchise with a fresh take on England's greatest spy.
Cavill has since remained a favorite to play Bond, despite the fact that he's now 40 and would have been in his early 20s the last time he came close to being cast. He's even spoken openly about what he would have done in the role,...

English filmmaker Matthew Vaughn returns to the big screen with another spy action film, Argylle. Known for his distinctive madness and heightened spy reality, as seen in his Kingsman film series, Argylle delivers a perfect blend of action, comedy, and a lot of espionage. Vaughn incorporates little pieces of his life in the movie, with Alfie the Cat being his real-life wife’s (Claudia Schiffer) cat and etching his daughter’s name, Clementine, on a gun in Director Ritter’s office. Argylle follows Elly Conway, a reclusive espionage novel author, who’s suddenly drawn into a similar real-life world of espionage. Conway soon realizes...

Apple has spared no expense with its embrace of movie theaters, shelling out $200 million to produce historical epics, war dramas and action comedies… all while the global box office contracts and rivals scramble to tighten their budgets.
For most studios, these expenditures would be ruinous at a time when hardly any movie is earning enough money to justify that kind of budget. As one of the deepest-pocketed companies in the world, though, Apple’s spending habits in the entertainment space are jokingly called rounding errors. But can the tech behemoth keep spending big on big-screen misfires? Or will a string of underperforming blockbusters eventually force Apple to economize?
That’s the big question after Matthew Vaughn’s spy thriller “Argylle” bombed in its debut with $18 million domestically and a disastrous $35 million globally. It’s the third consecutive Apple release where an outsized budget will make it nearly impossible for the...

Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle, the third Apple Original Films movie to go wide in cinemas, spied an estimated $35.3M global debut through Sunday, including $17.3M from 78 international box office markets. While that makes it the top title worldwide, overseas and domestically this frame, the ultra-expensive ensemble thriller was harshed on by critics and didn’t get folks rushing out to theaters.
Vaughn’s Marv financed Argylle, then sold it to Apple for $200M. Universal came on for the global theatrical release.

No, it’s not Taylor Swift. Instead, the authors of Penguin’s Argylle novel are revealed to be Terry Hayes and Tammy Cohen.
Forming part of a surprisingly elaborate marketing campaign, early January 2024 saw the release of a novel called Argylle, billed as an “explosive spy thriller that inspired the new Matthew Vaughn film”.
Rather than a traditional tie-in – one of those books that essentially takes a screenplay and turns it into page-turning prose – the book was instead a standalone thriller based on the antics of the spy played by Henry Cavill in the film. In a further post-modern twist, the Argylle novel is credited to Elly Conway, the character played in the movie by Bryce Dallas Howard.
This begged the question: if Conway’s a fictional character, who really wrote the novel? Much speculation ensued, including the quite batty theory that Argylle had been written by Taylor Swift – a...

For the first time in weeks, there was a high-profile new studio movie with a plethora of stars and a known director, and yet it did very little to help a 2024 box office that’s been flailing. Read on for the weekend box office report.
For months, moviegoers had been subjected to trailers teasing the mystery identity of the title character of Matthew Vaughn‘s spy comedy “Argylle,” being released by Apple Studios through a distribution deal with Universal Pictures. That trailer and the film’s entire marketing plan was based around that mystery and its star-studded cast, which included Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Henry Cavill, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, Samuel L. Jackson, Ariana DeBose, and even pop singer Dua Lipa, many of whom have been all over the talk show circuit for weeks.

The numbers are in, and while, they’re less dire than we were predicting; in the end, Argylle had a disastrous opening for Apple Films/ Universal. It ended up rallying to about $18 million, higher than the $16.5 million Deadline predicted yesterday. However, it’s still a poor opening for a movie with a $200 million price tag. Vaughn had been open about combining this franchise with the Kingsman films to launch a super spy multiverse, but it looks like the franchise is Doa before it even starts.
While the fact that Argylle was designed as a streaming film may have some saying the box office result doesn’t matter, the more concerning part is the C+ Cinemascore, which suggests audiences thoroughly disliked this caper. Part of the negative reaction might be the bait-and-switch advertising campaign, with it marketed as a Henry Cavill/ John Cena/ Duo Lipa-led spy romp, but in reality, none...

Agent Argylle couldn’t crack the box office code.
Matthew Vaughn’s globe-trotting spy comedy “Argylle” sputtered in its box office debut, earning a dismal $18 million from 3,605 North American theaters. The movie, backed by Apple and distributed by Universal, cost $200 million to produce and is shaping up to be the year’s first big misfire.
Despite terrible reviews and lousy audience scores (it holds a 35% on Rotten Tomatoes and “C+” on CinemaScore), “Argylle” ranked No. 1 at the domestic and global box office. The film added just $17.3 million from 78 international markets for a worldwide tally of $35.3 million.
Vaughn, the filmmaker of “The Kingsman” series and “X-Men: First Class,” intended to turn “Argylle” into a trilogy. But those grand plans are looking a lot less likely at this rate — unless there’s a dramatic uptick in ticket sales. Bryce Dallas Howard stars in “Argylle” as the reclusive author of a popular series of espionage novels.

Spurned by many critics and consumers alike, Matthew Vaughn‘s pricey spy comedy Argylle bombed at the North American box office in the biggest miss to date for Apple’s theatrical ambitions.
The movie opened to an estimated $18 million from 3,605 cinemas against a price tag of $200 million to $250 million, according to sources. The results weren’t much better overseas, where Argylle opened to an estimated $17.3 million from 78 markets, for global start of $35.3 million. The good news: Thanks to little competition, it won the weekend. Also, exhibitors were happy for an event film with A-list stars as they struggle with a dramatic downturn in product because of production delays due to the strikes.

Filmmaker Matthew Vaughn is in the news for several reasons this week. One, his new spy franchise “Argylle” is in theaters now (read our review), and he’s made some comments about “Deadpool 3” that have stoked the excitement of superhero fandom. Vaughn, who had previously said not too long ago that maybe audiences just need a long break from superhero movies, was singing an entirely different tune.

There's something to be said for keeping a movie's marketing simple. Matthew Vaughn's new action-comedy spy thriller "Argylle" opened in theaters this week, after more than two years of Vaughn claiming that the movie was based on an upcoming novel by mysterious first-time author Elly Conway. What little buzz there was around this movie generally revolved around Henry Cavill's flat-top hairstyle, complaints about the cat CGI, and speculation that "Elly Conway" might be Taylor Swift.
Those hooks weren't able to drum up more than $6.5 million on opening day, including Thursday previews, putting "Argylle" on track for a $16.5 million opening weekend (per Deadline). That's the same amount that "The Beekeeper" made with the relatively straightforward pitch of "Jason Statham is a beekeeper who kills people with honey and also with guns."
Determining a break-even point for "Argylle" is tricky. Like Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" and Ridley Scott's "Napoleon,...

Composer Lorne Balfe has spent his career working on blockbusters including “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” but even so, Matthew Vaughn’s spy thriller “Argylle,” which features an all-star cast including Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell and Henry Cavill, was one for the books. For a start, the soundtrack incorporates the Beatles’ last-ever record, “Now and Then,” the existence of which Balfe had to keep top secret for over a year until it was finally released last November.
The movie also involved Balfe making an album of cat sounds, provided by Vaughn’s moggy (and Howard’s co-star) Chip. “There were recordings of him while they were filming so we were able to chop it up and make it a percussion library,” says Balfe, a self-confessed dog person. “I’m going to post it on Twitter as a freebie so composers can use it and Chip...

British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn’s helmed a gonzo fantasy with a cross-dressing Robert De Niro, a vigilante superhero flick with a foul-mouthed, killer kid, and a delirious spin on Bond with Colin Firth. The film follows Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), a novelist/homebody whose series of spy books about Aubrey Argylle (Henry Cavill) have captured the public’s imagination. One day, she encounters an actual superspy, Aidan (Sam Rockwell), on a train who...
