In a perfect world, Leap Day would entail some celebrations. Not to worry, though. This 30 Rock episode, starring an iconic Jim Carrey and Andie MacDowell cameo, has your back. Gear up for blue and yellow-themed festivities and, of course, a fictional movie that can give even Groundhog Day a run for its money! Be careful about getting your eyes poked, though.
The titular ninth episode of the sixth season of the Tina Fey-starring satirical sitcom series honors this fake holiday, concocting a blend of tropes seen in most films centered around such celebratory occasions.
Jim Carrey is a fictional character, Dave Williams, in the 30 Rock universe!
Leap Day is portrayed in the show’s mythology as an occurrence that calls for parties and celebrations. And like all great holidays, this one, too, puts the emphasis on a cultural mascot. Here, that is a gilled entity who sports...

Tina Fey realizes she can be whoever she wants to be in a new Booking.com Super Bowl commercial.
“With so many choices on Booking.com, there are so many Tina Feys I could be,” the actress/producer/comedian said in the footage. “So I hired body doubles to help me out.”
It turns out that some of the people Fey hired in the ad spot are actually her former co-stars from the hit TV show 30 Rock, including Jane Krakowski and Jack McBrayer.
In the video, Krakowski takes on “Splurgy Tina [who] loves a hotel near Rodeo Drive.” And Sasquatch Tina says, “Rustic Tina loves this Wyoming cabin,” while getting a haircut from McBrayer.
Actress-singer Glenn Close then makes a cameo, riding on a horse. She says, “Wild Tina booked a farm stay to ride this horse.”

It started simply enough, with a discussion building on X (formerly Twitter) about why the Tina Fey-created “30 Rock” hasn’t seemed to generate the same warm nostalgia that “The Office” and, to a lesser extent, “Parks and Recreation” have in the decade since their 2000s into 2010s runs. That’s despite the show — which ran for seven seasons from 2006 to 2013 on NBC and won 16 Emmys including three Outstanding Comedy Series awards — being noted for the quality and density of its joke-writing
One take that caught on was Quinton Hoover noting that, while “30 Rock” is the funniest, its lead Liz Lemon (played by Tina Fey) “is much less inherently relatable than people working mundane and mostly pointless jobs out of necessity for a decade.” In the show, Lemon is the head writer for a sketch comedy series on NBC, inspired by Fey’s time as head writer for “Saturday Night Live.

The star-studded cast includes Tina Fey (who also created it!), Tracy Morgan, Jack McBrayer, Scott Adsit, Judah Friedlander, Alec Baldwin, Jane Krakowski and Keith Powell.
In the comedy series, Liz Lemon tries to juggle the egos around her while chasing her own dream as the head writer for a late-night variety TV show in New York.
Throughout it’s tenure, 30 Rock earned 190 award nominations, with 47 wins, including nine Emmys for writing, acting and multiple Outstanding Comedy Series wins!

As both of her brothers took the stand in their father’s civil fraud trial in New York this week, Ivanka Trump filed a request to have the trial paused entirely, because her turn to testify falls during a school week. So, on Friday morning, the hosts of “The View” laid into her for it.
First and foremost, the women were amazed that she tried to get out of the situation at all.
“When I saw this, I was like, it’s not jury duty. You’re being subpoenaed by a court of law,” host Sara Haines marveled. “You don’t get to be Liz Lemon coming in looking like Princess Leia to get out of it.”
But what Haines took bigger issue with was the fact that, according to Ivanka’s request, making her testify “in the middle of a school week” will create “undue hardship” in her life.

Funnywoman Tina Fey seemingly has it all: an amazing career as a writer, actor, and producer; an over-two-decades-long marriage; and two kids. The "30 Rock" star and creator met her now-husband, Jeff Richmond - a composer, actor, director, and producer who composed the music for and directed multiple episodes of her NBC series - while working at The Second City, the famous improvisational comedy troupe. They married in 2001 and have two daughters.
Here's what we know about the kids of the "Saturday Night Live" vet and "A Haunting in Venice" star.

While Quinta Brunson already receives a lot of credit for the success of “Abbott Elementary,” having become the second Black woman to ever win the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series last year, not enough esteem is given to her acting performance as protagonist Janine Teagues.
Such is the case with the majority of women who star in the television comedies they have created. Though the last couple decades have seen more and more shows with more and more women wearing more and more hats, since 2000 only Tina Fey (“30 Rock”) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”) have won the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy for a role they wrote themselves. While on the men’s side of things, half of the last 10 Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series were given to someone who functions as both creator and star of their show.

A new report says Tina Fey is being courted to take over “Saturday Night Live” for Lorne Michaels — but an NBC spokesperson is now denying such claims.
According to a source, per The New York Post, the actress and comedian is being considered to take Michaels’ current position as executive producer when the “SNL” creator, 78, eventually departs.
Though Michaels, who created the popular weekly comedy series back in 1975, hasn’t formally announced a departure, he previously spoke about leaving the show after “its 50th anniversary, which is in three years,” he told Gayle King on “CBS Mornings” in December 2021. “I’d like to see that through and I have a feeling that would be a really good time to leave.”

“AI could be crypto, or it could be the Internet. We don’t know if it’s going to shit the bed and become nothing or replace all of us.”
That’s how one writer-producer described the threat of artificial intelligence as they walked the picket line in front of the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, California, on the first day of the Writers Guild of America strike.
In interviews with WGA members this week, many singled out AI as one of their central concerns in the ongoing battle with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents Hollywood’s studios and streamers. The guild wants to prohibit studios from using AI to write or rewrite literary material, ban its use as source material and outlaw the use of WGA writers’ work to train AI.

Nobody saw the success of NBC‘s 2023 Night Court reboot coming – not even the folks involved with the creation of the show.
“I was a combination of absolute stunned and unbelievably thrilled,” Warner Bros. Television chairman Channing Dungey told The New York Times of seeing the show’s ratings.
To be fair to Dungey, the show’s ratings really are stunning. Per that same Nyt article, the first three episodes of Night Court achieved the highest ratings of any network comedy in the past four years, averaging 6.6 million viewers per episode. Additionally, the series’ first episode has drawn in more than 16 million viewers altogether when delayed and streaming views are taken into account. Dean-dong! Attention fans of Greendale Community College. After a seven-year silence, lovers of Dan Harmon's heartfelt and beautifully meta series "Community" finally got the news they'd been waiting for ever since the phrase "six seasons and a movie" was first uttered way back in the show's second season. Taylor Swift may have tucked a 30 Rock reference into “Anti-Hero”, the first single off her new album Midnights.
The records was released on Friday (21 October) at 12am exactly, which means Swift’s fans – known as Swifties – have already had hours to listen and dissect the tracks.
One lyric in particular, however, has created more consternation than others. On “Anti-Hero”, Swift sings: “Sometimes, I feel like everybody is a sexy baby / And I’m a monster on the hill.”
Some fans have suggested that the phrase “sexy baby” is ripped from a season five episode of 30 Rock, in which Tina Fey’s character – Liz Lemon – lectures an over-sexualised employee.
The adult employee in question, Abby, wears her hair in childlike pigtails and speaks in a soft baby voice.
She also objects to Liz’s interference, stating: “The whole sexy baby thing isn’t an act. I am a very sexy baby.

This The Simpsons review contains spoilers.
The Simpsons Season 34 Episode 2
The Simpsons are looking pretty good after 34 seasons, some of them stuck in ruts, others doing wheelies over their competition. Sometimes all they need is a little encouragement and a steep incline. The season opener mocked a turtle, episode 2 features a mock jury. “One Angry Lisa” has the feel of the earlier seasons, it is a sillier entry, based on Evergreen Terrace’s perennial theme of missed marital bliss, and throws no judgements. This is a missed opportunity for an installment perfectly named for a legal parody, and the handlebars should have been the sidebar.
The title comes from the classic courtroom drama 12 Angry Men directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Henry Fonda. Its almost-hung-jury premise is a TV trope. Jack Klugman, who played in the original feature film, was stuck on a jury as Oscar Madison against Tony Randall...
The Simpsons Season 34 Episode 2
The Simpsons are looking pretty good after 34 seasons, some of them stuck in ruts, others doing wheelies over their competition. Sometimes all they need is a little encouragement and a steep incline. Jennifer Lawrence has revealed that she always thought herself to be a Republican until an episode of 30 Rock she watched as a teenager changed her perception.
The Hunger Games actor revealed in 2020 that she voted for Republican candidate John McCain in the 2008 presidential election when he ran – and lost – against Democrat Barack Obama.
In Vogue’s October cover story, Lawrence recalled watching 30 Rock at home when she was 16, during which Liz Lemon (played by Tina Fey) uttered a line that struck a chord with her: “I’m not a crazy liberal. I just think people should drive hybrid cars.”
According to the article, travel opened Lawrence’s eyes to the concentration of wealth at the top of society around the world. For her, republicanism had meant: “Why should my taxes pay for your haughty lifestyle?”
Now, she sees that: “Nobody likes to see half their paycheck go away,...

Television has provided unrealistic standards of life’s many truths for as long as it’s existed — from being able to hang out in a coffee shop during the work day to going on thousands of dates in a single year. But one of the most bothersome standards TV has warped audiences into thinking is what kind of apartment New Yorkers today can realistically afford.
Millions of residents live in the five boroughs, and more people move there every day with dreams of getting a 212 area code and a mailing address in the big city. If only they knew what they were actually in for. The 15 TV characters ranked below lease or own apartments that have become characters in and of themselves, leading New York natives and newbies alike to think they can afford an apartment like Monica Geller’s from “Friends” or Hannah Horvath’s from “Girls.” So, exactly...

HBO Max's comedy series "Minx" wrapped up its first season on April 14. The show is about the creation of a porn magazine targeted at women in the 1970s, and the show is not shy about showing male nudity. The pilot alone must have featured more penises than any other American TV show before.
At first, the series seemed totally out there. But for all its sexy hijinks (which are definitely fun), "Minx" is a back-to-basics workplace sitcom at its heart. The show I thought of the most while watching season one wasn't other R-rated fare, but rather NBC's hit sitcom "30 Rock," which ran from 2006 to 2013.
There's Joyce Prigger (Ophelia Lovibond), the feminist with an idea for a magazine that will appeal to the hearts and minds of women around the country. She's our Liz Lemon - a white woman with good intentions and feminist ideals who messes...

Midway through the final season of “Better Things,” Sam Fox (Pamela Adlon) takes a break from a directing gig for a quick chat with the producer. Their day hasn’t been easy. The child actor won’t (or can’t) stop shouting his lines. His mom isn’t helping, demanding her son be called by his character’s name and insisting he has a “hard out” well ahead of wrap. The sitcom’s star, played by Ron Cephas Jones, is friends with Sam and has been cordial to her… until he snaps when she tries to do her job and, you know, direct him.
Throughout it all, the producer, Eli (Lena Waithe), has been silent yet sympathetic. She sees what’s going on, offering a knowing glance or supportive nod while Sam deals with problems that existed long before she took over the director’s chair. As it turns out,...

Everybody thought Tina Fey was funny, but no one really took her seriously until she created and starred in her own sitcom, 30 Rock. The show was based on Tina Fey’s personal experiences as the head writer of Saturday Night Live. The title is a reference to the building where NBC is headquartered and SNL is aired, 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York. 30 Rock features the life of Liz Lemon, played by Tina Fey, a head writer for a low-rating comedy sketch show called Tgs with Tracy Morgan. Alongside her, Alec Baldwin, Jane Krakowski, Tracy Morgan, Jack McBrayer, and

In the words of the great Liz Lemon, what a week, huh? A lot has happened in the last few days: Lady Gaga won a major critics prize at the New York Film Critics Circle while “Being the Ricardos” and “Don’t Look Up” took hits from the critics. How will that impact their chances? Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to discuss all that and more.
Gaga had slipped to sixth place last week in the Best Actress odds while Nicole Kidman ascended into the top five for her turn as Lucille Ball in “Being the Ricardos.” But how the tables have turned. Gaga got a big boost with her NYFCC win and while that doesn’t always translate to Oscar success, it certainly legitimizes her as a contender (on top of “Gucci” being a pandemic box office hit) as “Being the Ricardos” earned mixed reviews on Tuesday.

Mel and Jack aren’t the only Virgin River couple in crisis at the close of the Netflix drama’s third season.
Ricky and Lizzie, the show’s resident Romeo and Juliet, officially called it quits — largely due to the fact that Ricky began the process of enlisting in the Marines without telling her. Tina Fey comedies are almost a distinct genre at this point. The formula, established by 30 Rock and followed closely by Kimmy Schmidt and Great News, seems to be confidently quirky characters delivering rapid-fire punchlines laced with ultra-current pop culture references, with quick cutaways and peppy music bopping along in the background.
It doesn’t always work (see: Mr. Mayor), but Peacock’s Girls5eva — premiering this Thursday, May 6; I’ve seen the first four episodes — is a delightfully entertaining new entry to the genre, with a ridiculously stacked cast, lots of sharp jabs at the music industry and a refreshingly sunny tone.

The new NBC sitcom Mr. Mayor began life as a 30 Rock spinoff in which Alec Baldwin’s Jack Donaghy, having conquered the corporate worlds of Ge and Kabletown, would run for mayor of New York City. Baldwin ultimately wouldn’t agree to a contract, at which point 30 Rock creator Tina Fey and her longtime collaborator Robert Carlock pivoted to another tall, multiple-Emmy-winning NBC institution: Ted Danson. They relocated the story to Los Angeles, because the Cheers and Good Place alum didn’t want to move, and voila, a series was born.

While Brooklyn Nine-Nine typically coasts on the charms of its ensemble cast and their silly and sweet camaraderie, the show arguably is at its best when the Nine-Nine has a common enemy to unite against. Between dim bulb Captain C.J. Stentley (Ken Marino), smug saboteur Commissioner John Kelly (Phil Reeves), and Holt’s long-time rival Madeline Wuntch (Kyra Sedgwick), there hasn’t been a shortage of antagonists during Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s seven season run. However, there’s one frequent persona non grata that seems to constantly get underneath the entire precinct’s skin. His name? Keith Pembroke, but you may know him better as The Vulture.
Played by Dean Winters, The Vulture made his introduction way back in the series’ fifth episode, aptly titled “The Vulture” and has appeared several times throughout the course of the show, even serving as the replacement captain of the Nine-Nine during Season 3. As...

Arguably the most legendary TV show theme song of the ’90s — and possibly of all-time — belongs to “The X-Files.” Now, the cast and crew of the famed series has reunited to give that theme song some lyrics.
The new video, titled “Song in the Key of X,” sees show creator Chris Carter join the show’s stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson along with dozens of cast members, writers and directors in an a capella version of the theme.
Among those in the video are “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan, who wrote several “X-Files” episodes; Carey Elwes, who appeared on the show’s final season; Mulder’s replacement Robert Patrick; and Lone Gunmen Bruce Harwood, Tom Braidwood and Dean Haglund. Frank Spotnitz, the show’s executive producer, oversaw the reunion project.

Jennifer Aniston has officially crossed over from beloved comedy star to beloved drama actor in the eyes of the Television Academy: She nabbed her first-ever dramatic acting Emmy nomination (for Apple TV Plus’ “The Morning Show”) on Tuesday.
“You did the work. It was just really clear. You were this other person. And you are poised, but it was a different shade of poise, maturity. It was just really thrilling,” Aniston’s former “Friends” costar Lisa Kudrow said to Aniston of her work on “The Morning Show” during Variety‘s Actors on Actors in June.
Aniston credited this to actor and acting coach Nancy Banks, who she called an “incredible woman” with whom she breaks down scripts. “I feel like I’ve discovered a whole new doorway into what we do — into acting — that I’d never, in all the years, even thought about,” she said. “I have a whole new tool belt.

The following contains spoilers for 30 Rock: A One-Time Special.
Unlike the Parks and Recreation reunion special earlier this year, 30 Rock: A One-Time Special wasn’t designed to bring comfort to folks during a pandemic or raise money for charity. Instead it was a Trojan horse to sell ad space.
It’s not a surprise; since network’s upfronts were canceled, the 30 Rock “special” was created to tout NBC’s slate of programming, talent, and their new streaming service, Peacock, to journalists and advertisers. The advertorial nature of the endeavor kept many independently-owned NBC affiliates from airing the “reunion” altogether, and though it was disappointing for those looking for a return to the joke-a-minute world of Liz Lemon and her zany co-workers, it wasn’t completely devoid of humor (it was also thankfully free of controversy).

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for the “30 Rock” reunion, “30 Rock: A One-Time Special.”]
Way back in 2006, when “30 Rock” was still establishing its tone, the nascent satire’s fifth episode parodied the oft-clumsy and obvious manner in which television shows would implement product placement… by hocking Snapple in sharp and obvious fashion. At one point, Jack (Alec Baldwin) brings a lengthy runner praising the beverage to a close by saying, “Look, we all love Snapple. Lord knows I do, but focus here: We’re talking about product integration.”
“We’re not your shills,” Liz Lemon (Tina Fey), always the defender of unsoiled fart jokes, retorts.
“Oh, oh, I’m sorry,” Jack counters. “That’s right, they’re artists — like James Joyce, or Strindberg. Get real kids: You write skits mocking our president to fill time between car commercials.”

NBC for seven years offered advertisers a novel proposition: Pay us money to put your products in our show and let the series’ writers make fun of them. Oddly enough, it worked.
Fans may remember the offbeat sitcom “30 Rock” – a comedy ostensibly about the inner workings and strange characters behind a long-running TV variety show not unlike “Saturday Night Live” – for Alec Baldwin’s portray of oblivious corporate executive Jack Donaghy and Tina Fey’s nerdy Liz Lemon. Madison Avenue recalls the show for its ability to get blue-chip marketers like Kraft, Verizon, Snapple and Dr Pepper to cough up thousands of dollars for product placements that criticized the sponsors for even showing up. Advertisers seemed happy to keep feeding the mouth that bit them.

The full list of stations that are choosing to preempt the special come from station groups Gray Television, Hearst, Nexstar, Tegna and Sinclair Broadcast Group, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap. While it’s not clear exactly how many of the stations are skipping the special, those collectively represent about half of NBC’s footprint.
NBC declined to comment on the reason for the preemptions, but Vulture reported that it’s over concerns the special is too focused on the new streaming service, which rolls out nationwide on Wednesday. The special is being produced by NBCUniversal’s marketing department.

That long-awaited “Happy Endings” comeback is finally happening. Kinda.
The cast of the cult-favorite but short-lived ABC sitcom will reunite over Zoom for a special charity event that will feature a live Q&a and “new material” that the cast will perform in character. “Happy Endings” stars Eliza Coupe, Elisha Cuthbert, Zachary Knighton, Adam Pally, Damon Wayans, Jr and Casey Wilson, and a special surprise guest will perform “And the Pandemmy Goes to…”
The event will be streamed on Sony TV’s YouTube page on Monday, July 20, at 4 p.m. Pt. It will raise money and awareness for Color of Change and José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen supporting Black Lives Matter and Covid-19 relief efforts.

When 30 Rock drew its final breath in 2013, yards of column inches were devoted – deservedly so – to praising the work of creator Tina Fey. Article upon article applauded the characters, cast, performances and seven seasons of energetic, inventive, satirical comedy.
More than anything else though, 30 Rock was always about the gags. It was fruitcake-dense with jokes, regularly fitting in more quotable laughs before its opening credits than many shows manage in a full half-hour. As it returns for a one-off reunion special, join us in celebrating the many, many running gags of its seven-season history, from the fake movies, to the terrible yet incredibly catchy songs, Frank’s hats, and those godawful Tgs sketches…

The presence of Tracy Jordan (a bonafide Martin Lawrence meets the Wayans Brothers-style movie star) in the Tgs cast opened up the world of film parody to 30 Rock.
