There are many great shows in this world and many of them get canceled unjustly, and they don’t get to finish the story they were trying to tell what’s even sadder is that sometimes they end on a note that needs some type of resolution and if it’s a Netflix original series there is even a higher chance of that. So, today we are making a list of every Netflix original series that was canceled in 2024.
Obliterated (2023)
Obliterated is a carefree action comedy-drama series created by Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald. The Netflix series released its first and only season in November 2023 and it followed the story of an elite joint special-operations team trying to stop a deadly terrorist network from blowing up Las Vegas. “American Horror Story” creator Ryan Murphy and frequent “AHS” star Sarah Paulson reunited back in 2020 for Netflix’s “Ratched,” an 8-episode series telling the origin story of iconic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest villain Nurse Mildred Ratched. The series invited us to “meet the woman before the monster,” and the original plan was for a two season storyline.
Those plans have changed, however. As reported by Deadline, Sarah Paulson has confirmed this week that there will not be a second season of Netflix’s “Ratched” after all.
Two seasons of “Ratched” had originally been ordered up back in 2017.
Here’s the plot synopsis for the first season, which is streaming on Netflix…
“In 1947, Mildred arrives in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind. On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image...

After four years, what has long been suspected, has been confirmed. Despite an initial two-season order, Ratched, Ryan Murphy’s asylum drama series starring Sarah Paulson in the title role, has been canceled after one season at Netflix. Paulson confirmed the news in a video posted to a fan account on X (fka Twitter). You can watch it below.
Inspired by the diabolical Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Ratched, from Murphy and Ian Brennan and executive produced by the film’s producer Michael Douglas, was set in mid-20th century Northern California. It centered around Mildred Ratched (Paulson), who lands a job at a psychiatric hospital as a nurse. The series followed the nurse’s first days navigating the mental healthcare system and her journey to head nurse in Ken Kesey’s 1962 novel.

With seven nominations under her belt, it might feel like Sarah Paulson has been all over the Emmys for years. But the frequent collaborator of Ryan Murphy has only dominated a specific section of the awards: the limited series/TV movie categories. This year she has the opportunity to change that.
Paulson won her first and so far only Emmy for her lead performance as Marcia Clark on FX’s anthology series “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” in 2016. However, she has been nominated a total of three times in the Best Limited Series/TV Movie Actress category. Her other two bids were for the “Coven” and “Cult” installments of FX’s horror anthology series “American Horror Story.” Paulson’s other four Emmy nominations came in the corresponding supporting actress category and are for her performances in HBO’s “Game Change” as well as the “AHS” installments “Asylum,...

They each receive career-killing reviews, and decide to revive their reputations by throwing their weight behind a charity cause. “Ratched” is Netflix’s top new series this year, the streaming service claimed on Friday.
The prequel to “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Next” from Ryan Muphy, which features Sarah Paulson as a younger Mildred Ratched, was viewed by 48 million households within its first 28 days, the streaming service said on Friday. That would make it its top new series of 2020.
Nielsen seems to agree. In the ratings measurement service’s own weekly Top 10 list of streaming programs, “Ratched” claimed the top spot on this week’s list, which covers Sept. 14 – Sept. 20. Nielsen ranks programs by total minutes viewed. Despite premiering on Sept. 18, “Ratched” had already racked up 972 million viewed.
The biggest launch in Netflix’s history, according to the streaming service’s internal metrics, was “The Witcher,” which barely missed the 2020 cutoff, debuting Dec. 20, 2019. The Henry Cavill-led fantasy series was seen by 76 million households in its first month,...

Photo: 'Ratched'/Netflix Ratched Review: Imagine yourself constrained in a brightly lit bluish room, clean sheets and towels folded to perfection, everything neatly in its place and everything still except for the baritone beating of your own heart. You are, for now, alone with your jet-line of thoughts, clustering the mostly empty space. Not a web or speck of dust to fight for your attention; just you, the sound of your heart beating, and your breath. Your ears perk at the chime of sharp heels hitting linoleum. Your heart beats faster because you have no way of anticipating what malevolent method is coming to you, all you know is that it’s coming. The light in the room seems blinding now, as you hear the lock to your door click open. The only things you have to hold on to are the prospect of healing (by what degree of excruciating...

[Editor’s Note: The following post contains spoilers for “Ratched” Season 1.]
Ryan Murphy’s “Ratched” tells the origin story of Nurse Ratched, a character made famous by Louise Fletcher’s Oscar-winning portrayal in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” but the debut season does not end where “Cuckoo’s Nest” begins. Far from it. Sarah Paulson, the star of Murphy’s Netflix series, tells The Wrap “the goal” for the show is to continue beyond Season 2 so it can end up in the 1970s era where “Cuckoo’s Nest” is set. Netflix ordered two seasons of “Ratched” when it greenlit the project, but not even Season 2 is designed to meet “Cuckoo’s Nest.”
Should “Ratched” get the opportunity to continue beyond Season 2, it’s unclear how Murphy and creator Evan Romansky would tackle the events of “Cuckoo’s Nest.” The AMC “Psycho” prequel series “Bates Motel” used its final episodes to reimagine the events of the Hitchcock movie, casting Rihanna in the...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the first season of “Ratched,” streaming now on Netflix.
For decades the character of Nurse Mildred Ratched from “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” has been considered one of the most iconic fictional villains of all time. First created by Ken Kesey in his 1962 novel, she was then brought to life on the big screen by Louise Fletcher in 1975. Now Sarah Paulson has taken on the role, tasked with delivering an origin story for the character that reveals deep trauma in her childhood and a perhaps unexpected drive to take care of her foster brother Edmund (Finn Wittrock) in Ryan Murphy and Evan Romansky’s drama series “Ratched” for Netflix.
“This story takes place 20 years prior to when we meet Mildred in ‘Cuckoo’s Nest, so [Mildred could] be a very different person with some similarities and some things you recognize, but...

Prior to Friday’s premiere there were warning signs that “Ratched” might be more of a Ryan Murphy camp-fest than a sincere prequel to “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” An eye-popping color palette, with certain scenes completely bathed in red or green, stood in stark contrast to the white and gray backdrop of Milos Forman’s 1975 movie.
Explicit, darkly comic threats over the theft of a breakroom peach took the place of Nurse Ratched’s passive-aggressive manipulation of patients. And the villainous character’s symbolic place in popular culture as a representative of corruption and dehumanization within industrialized medicine, especially for anyone reliant on in-patient care, didn’t appear as important to the new series as ghoulish frights.
Also, Sharon Stone’s co-star was a monkey. Again.

This Ratched review contains no spoilers.
In dramatic lighting and with lush period costumes, Ryan Murphy’s Ratched tells a sordid backstory of Mildred Ratched, the militant, unfeeling nurse made famous in the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Ryan Murphy’s take on Nurse Ratched was always going to be bombastic and campy, and with a shorter episode count and tighter runtimes, unraveling her aim and getting inside her head could have been a thrilling game. But instead of deliciously wild, it reads like a failed high-budget parody of a Ryan Murphy show. Almost every editorial choice, from the radio play-esque musical cues to the use of splitscreen is ham-fistedly overblown, as if yelling at the audience “Here! Look here! This is important!”
Sarah Paulson owns this star vehicle, and Ratched, which was written almost entirely by Evan Romansky, owes much of what works to her performance. Starting...

At this point, there are several things you’re almost sure to encounter when diving into one of Ryan Murphy’s gilded television worlds. No matter where or when it’s set, the show will have impeccable, eye-popping costume and production design. No matter how it unfolds, it will do its damndest to shock and awe, probably by putting characters through an incredible amount of psychological and/or physical distress. No matter what it’s about, it will feature several deliciously dramatic turns from actors ready to chew up and spit out every ounce of scenery they get. His new Netflix drama “Ratched” ticks off every one of these boxes and then some with the kind of gory flair that Murphy’s leaned into for projects from “Nip/Tuck” to “American Horror Story.” It even stars his muse, Sarah Paulson, in a role that requires her to be flinty, cruel, compassionate and lovelorn all at once.

Really, was anyone out there crying out for a Nurse Ratched origin story? The trailers for Netflix’s Ratched — premiering this Friday, Sept. 18; I’ve seen the first four episodes — bill the One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest villain as “one of the world’s most iconic characters,” but as played by Oscar winner Louise Fletcher in the original 1975 film, the psych-ward nurse is a rather banal authority figure without much depth or dimension to explore.

Nearly 60 years after Ken Kesey created Mildred Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the heartless asylum nurse will get her origin story in Ratched, out September 18th on Netflix.
Louise Fletcher famously portrayed the nurse in the 1975 film and now Sarah Paulson stars as a younger version who confidently says, “Looking good today, Mildred,” to herself in the mirror. She explains she was taken away from her parents at a young age and seeks employment at a psychiatric hospital in Northern California in 1947.

Sarah Paulson’s nurse Mildred Ratched is here to show you some mercy — in her own special way, that is — in a new trailer for “Ratched,” Ryan Murphy’s “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” prequel series at Netflix.
In the video, which you can view here and in the video above, we’re introduced to a Nurse Ratched we’ve never seen before, a version of the iconic character before she became that iconic character. She is a kind but peculiar nurse who wants to show mercy, but seems to have a hard time sorting out what is right and wrong to do as a medical professional amongst both her colleagues and her patients — though she firmly believes “there are rights and there are wrongs.”
Mildred’s bedside manner leaves something to be desired, but it appears there could be some deep-seated reason for that particular flaw.

Sarah Paulson’s Mildred is anything but a peach in the first trailer for Netflix’s ‘Ratched’ [Watch]
This will only hurt a little — or a lot if you’re under Nurse Ratched’s care. Netflix dropped the first trailer for Ryan Murphy‘s new series”Ratched” on Tuesday, and, yes, Sarah Paulson‘s take on the iconic villain is every bit as menacing as Louise Fletcher‘s Oscar-winning turn in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (1975).
A prequel to “Cuckoo’s Nest,” the series imagines the origin story of Mildred Ratched (Paulson), tracing her evolution into the most terrifying nurse etched in pop culture immortality. Set to a disarming rendition of “Big Spender,” the trailer shows Mildred beginning her new job at a Northern California psychiatric hospital that has started utilizing “new and unsettling experiments” on the human mind, per the logline. Cue a bevy of footage of incinerators, bloody knives, needles and… marionettes.

Do you want to have fun, fun, fun? Good, because Netflix dropped the trailer for “Ratched,” Ryan Murphy’s “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” prequel series, Tuesday. And let’s just say while a young Nurse Ratched (played by Sarah Paulson) is a perfectly pleasant person, she’s also, uh, pretty peculiar.
The trailer, which you can watch here and via the video above, begins with Mildred Ratched lecturing a gas station attendant about asking her a “personal” question and his very dirty fingernails, on her way to her new job at a psychiatric hospital. There, Mildred’s origin story begins to unfold as she goes from a nurse with a strange, but kind bedside manner, to a healthcare worker who appears to be going a little cuckoo.

Ryan Murphy is working to earn that reported $300 million Netflix shelled out to sign the prolific producer to an overall deal last year, luring him away from his longtime home at 20th Century Fox Television.
At the Time 100 Summit in April, the “American Horror Story” creator said he has 10 projects in the works at the streaming service: three documentaries, four TV shows and three movies.
While the details about the majority of those films and series are being kept under wraps in the most Murphy-like way, TheWrap has rounded up everything we currently know about the projects that have been formally announced.

While the details about the majority of those films and series are being kept under wraps in the most Murphy-like way, TheWrap has rounded up everything we currently know about the projects that have been formally announced.
See our list below, which we will continue to update as more information becomes available.

Weinstein Accuser Rosanna Arquette Said She Couldn’t Find Work, So Ryan Murphy Cast Her in ‘Ratched’
Rosanna Arquette has been cast on Ryan Murphy’s upcoming Netflix series, “Ratched,” starring and produced by Sarah Paulson.
Paulson made the announcement herself Monday, saying the decision to add the actress to the show came about when she and Murphy read interviews where Arquette said she was struggling to find work after being one of the first women to make sexual misconduct accusations against Harvey Weinstein.
“The story of Rosanna Arquette is a triumphant one- but it’s also disturbing,” Paulson wrote in an Instagram post Monday. “She was one of the first women to publicly speak out about Harvey Weinstein. I was stirred by several of her recent interviews where she was quoted as saying she couldn’t find work -or representation -this seems a direct consequence of her bravery. I am producing a new Netflix show, Ratched, with Ryan Murphy- and we decided this could not stand.

It shouldn’t be shocking that a Ryan Murphy show is able to attract a noteworthy cast, but the TV titan’s “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”-inspired Netflix series “Ratched” has assembled quite a few surprising stars.
In an Instagram post on Monday, Murphy announced that Cynthia Nixon, Sharon Stone, and Corey Stoll would be the latest performers to join his ever-evolving acting troupe, joining a cast that already includes the previously announced Sarah Paulson, who’ll be playing the title nurse.
This will be the first high-profile role for Nixon following her bid last year to become governor of New York. After starring in Steven Soderbergh’s “Mosaic,” Stone will be returning to TV this year in “The New Pope.” Stoll is coming back to a Netflix series after appearing in the opening season of “House of Cards.”
