Demi Moore hit the Cannes red carpet on Friday for the first time in nearly 30 years, having last attended with then-husband Bruce Willis for the premiere of The Fifth Element in 1997. This year is all about Moore as she has a film in the competition courtesy of Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance and official duties on behalf of Chopard.
It was the latter commitment that brought her to the Palais last night. Moore joined the luxury jeweler’s co-president and artistic director Caroline Scheufele and rising stars Mike Faist and Sophie Wilde ahead of the late-night Trophée Chopard gala ceremony at Carlton Beach. Moore was tapped to serve as the godmother of the festivities, a role that saw her take the stage and present the trophies, which are given to next-generation talents. Faist is coming off the success of Challengers and before that, Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story. Wilde...

Jeff Bridges is going back to the grid.
The 74-year-old actor told the Film Comment podcast (via The Playlist) that he is going to appear in “Tron: Ares,” the third film in the long-running sci-fi franchise that Bridges inaugurated with “Tron” in 1982 and reprised with “Tron: Legacy” in 2010. The new film stars Jared Leto as the titular character Ares, with Joachim Rønning (“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil”) directing from a script by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne.
“I’m heading off this Saturday to play a part in the third installment of the ‘Tron’ story,” Bridges said. “Jared Leto is the star of this third one. I’m really anxious to work with him. I’ve admired his work.”
“Tron” is best known for pioneering the use of computer generated imagery, which was used to create the digital world of a video game after Bridges’ character, Kevin Flynn, is zapped inside one.

Doctor Who’s Ncuti Gatwa and W1A’s Hugh Skinner will star in a National Theatre revival of Oscar Wilde’s play about courtships, betrothals, and confused identities. The Importance of Being Earnest also stars three-time Olivier Award winner Sharon D. Clarke playing the imperious Lady Bracknell.
Director Max Webster, making his Nt debut, told Deadline exclusively that casting Gatwa and Skinner as the idle bachelors Algernon Moncrieff and Jack Worthing -both leading double lives – who pursue two young women, both determined to marry someone called Ernest, and with Clarke as the dreadnaught dowager decreeing her own rules of class, taste, and propriety, was “a dream come true.”

We were all a little shocked when it was reported last week that Quentin Tarantino would be scrapping The Movie Critic, which was supposed to be his tenth and final film. It remains to be seen what will take the place of The Movie Critic, but THR has a few plot details on what could have been, including a meta-twist which would have seen a young Tarantino making an appearance.
We never really knew all that much about The Movie Critic, only that it would be set in California in 1977 and would be “based on a guy who really lived, but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag.” THR’s report states that Tarantino was considering using the project as a way to bid goodbye to his previous movies, which would have existed in the same era as The Movie Critic. “That way,...

Match #1: Noam Dar def. Dijak The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The numbers game of the Meta-Four proved dividends for Noam Dar as Supernova 11 conquered the much larger Dijak thanks to Lash Legend, Jakara Jackson, and Oro Mensah. Dijak laid into the Scottish Superstar, crushing him with brutal chops, strong strikes, and back-breaking tosses across the ring. Dar was even on the receiving end of a ring-shaking sit-out chokeslam. Dar managed to rally and hit a Fisherman Buster on the larger Dijak, parlaying that move into an armbar that incapacitated his arm. After trading incredible shots, Dijak became distracted by Mensah who jumped on the apron, allowing Dar to hit Nova Roller to pick up the huge win.
My Score: 3.5 out of 5 Match #2: Lola Vice def.

After taking on the plastic, fantastic world of Barbie Land, producer Margot Robbie is heading to the rich terrain of Monopoly.
Robbie’s company LuckyChap and her partners Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara are producing a live-action feature film based on the ubiquitous real estate-inspired board game. Hasbro Entertainment, the backers of Monopoly, will also produce.
Lionsgate extended its development rights to the board game with its purchase of eOne, which was completed in December 2023. According to the studio, Monopoly is the world’s most popular board game brand, with 99% global awareness. It’s available in more than 100 countries across the globe, selling nearly half a billion copies going back to 1935.
It’s unclear how Robbie and company plan to spin a narrative story from the two-dimensional world of Monopoly. It’s no surprise, though, as to why Lionsgate thought of them to take on the challenge. LuckyChap recently produced a little blockbuster called “Barbie,...

Forget Booksmart – actor-director Olivia Wilde is about to get comic-book-smart. In an unexpected but not at all unwelcome turn of events, the Don't Worry Darling filmmaker is, according to THR, set to bring Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld's cult '90s comic series Avengelyne to the big screen. And what's more, Margot Robbie — no stranger to a superhero movie or two herself — is also aboard, and will co-produce alongside Deadpool writer-producer Simon Kinberg under her LuckyChap banner.
Now, we know what you're thinking: "Who the heck is Avengelyne? An avenger? An angel?" Well try avenging angel and you're just about there. Created by Liefeld and the appropriately-named Cathy Christian, Avengelyne debuted in Avengelyne: Deadly Sins #1 in 1995. An angel cast out of heaven for questioning God's love of humanity, Avengelyne uses her divine powers — super strength, regenerative healing, necromancy, the odd holy sword, and, err, miraculous blood — to fight demons on...

Margot Robbie’s production company looks set to take on a film based on Avengelyne, a comic book character created by Deadpool’s Rob Liefeld.
If reports are accurate, Booksmart director Olivia Wilde is set to make Avengelyne, a take on the comic book character created by the mind behind Deadpool, Rob Liefeld. It’s the second project Wilde has lined up at Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment.
According to Deadline, 'Avengelyne is an angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters. She was the most feared warrior in Heaven’s Warhost, having single-handedly broken into Pandemonium, the outer fortress of Hell, to confront the Devil himself. Olivia Wilde’s comic book action film Avengelyne is picking up the sword with Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap production company along for the ride. Based on the signature comic book creation by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, rumor has it Margot Robbie could play the lead, but her reps are denying her involvement with that part of the project. LuckyChap includes Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, and Simon Kinberg. LuckyChap produced Barbie, the billion-dollar barn-burner based on Mattel’s iconic blonde bombshell. With influence like that, it’s difficult not to imagine Avengelyne being a big to-do.

A high-powered package is coming together to adapt Avengelyne, the ’90s comic book character from Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld.
Olivia Wilde, who last helmed the thriller Don’t Worry Darling, is attached to direct what would be a feature adaptation. LuckyChap, the banner run by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara and which shepherded last year’s biggest movie, Barbie, is producing. Simon Kinberg, who has written and produced several X-Men movies, will also produce. The package is being put together, with the hope that it will be ready to take to studios and streamers in the coming weeks.
Avengelyne debuted in 1995 and centered on a fallen angel cast to Earth. She is entrusted to find and protect The One, a person who is the key to protecting humanity from demons and other monsters.
Robbie, who is not attached to star in Avengelyne, is well-versed in comic having played Harley Quinn multiple DC films.

After scaring the daylights out of horror fans in A24‘s Talk to Me – which recently won the Best Horror category at the 22nd Golden Schmoe Awards – Sophie Wilde is lining up her next project with New Regency’s adaptation of the UbiSoft video game Watch Dogs. With over 50 million players since the franchise began in 2014 with the release of Watch Dogs and Watch Dogs: Bad Blood, the film adaptation finds French genre filmmaker Mathieu Turi in the director’s chair. Turi directs Watch Dogs from a script by Christie LeBlanc, who wrote the Alexandre Aja-directed Netflix film Oxygen.
UbiSoft’s Watch Dogs franchise includes the games Watch Dogs, Watch Dogs: Bad Blood, Watch Dogs 2, Watch Dogs: Legion, and Watch Dogs: Legion – Bloodline. The franchise plot varies from game to game, though Watch Dogs generally...

He’s the consummate actor, writer, renaissance man. What on earth wouldn’t you like to learn Stephen Fry’s take on?
There’s so much you could ask Stephen Fry. Maybe something about his TV career, from A Bit of Fry and Laurie to Jeeves and Wooster to Blackadder to Qi. Perhaps his books – the novels, the memoirs, the classics, how to write poetry.
Maybe something about his illustrious film career, with Wilde the obvious highlight, but which also includes Chariots of Fire, Gosford Park, The Hobbit, Love and Friendship, and Spice World.

Match #1: Kevin Owens def. Austin Theory The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
In a reversal of fortunes, the same plan that Logan Paul executed against Kevin Owens at Royal Rumble backfired on the United States Champion this time. As Ko was looking strong against Theory, Paul, providing guest commentary, tossed the 150 million-hit man a pair of brass knuckles. Owens was able to snatch the weapon from Theory’s hand, however, nailing the former U.S. Champion square in the jaw. This time the referee did not see the infraction, allowing Owens to walk away with the victory.

Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams are officially headed to Nxt Vengeance Day as they defeated Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro of The Lwo in the Semifinals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Wilde and Del Toro were on their A-game early on and even managed to hit a tandem splash to the outside, but their amazing offense wasn’t enough to spoil Trick Melo Gang’s night. Sarah Snook, star of Succession, says the film industry should “set a precedent” with new rules on the use of Artificial Intelligence.
Discussing the ongoing SAG-AFTRA dispute where AI remains one of the main sticking points, Snook told the BBC:
“It’s such unchartered landscape. We need stringent rules in place, in order to protect not just the acting industry, but across the board.
“If we can set a precedent for other industries in regard to how AI is utilised, then that’ll be huge. All the deep fake stuff that’s readily available is terrifying. The guy who does the Tom Cruise videos is uncanny.
“Imagine a company owning your image, your voice, creating propaganda. There are no words to describe how important this is right now to attend to.”

In her sophomore attempt at directing a film, Olivia Wilde created the psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling. With an ensemble cast, this film pays homage to older films in its genre. Films such as The Stepford Wives and Jordan Peele’s Get Out. Riding off the success of her first film, Booksmart, Wilde was immediately approached by several studios who wanted to produce her next film. Don’t Worry Darling did not perform as well as Wilde’s first film, but there was some praise for the performance of the actors. The fact that the story had similarities with other movies did not...

Horror fans have been blessed with a bold new generation of Scream Queens, from “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega to Mia Goth of “X” and “Pearl,” to “Yellowjackets” stars Jasmin Savoy Brown and Sophie Thatcher, not to mention the women of “Fear Street,” Stranger Things” and Mike Flanagan’s deliciously spooky “Haunting of…” Netflix series.

The year’s scariest sleeper hit, Talk to Me became A24’s second highest grossing horror film with $48 million at the domestic box office on a $4.5 million budget. The Australian movie marks the feature debut of co-directors Danny and Michael Philippou, who rose to prominence with their YouTube channel, RackaRacka.
The film’s home video release includes an audio commentary with the excitable Australian twins. They begin by stating that they won’t discuss the movie’s themes, as they want to leave it open to interpretation (although they let a few hints slip), but they have plenty of other insight to share.
Here are seven things I learned from the Talk to Me commentary.
1. The opening shot took 10 takes.

Jason Sudeikis and Olivia Wilde have settled their ongoing custody battle, with Sudeikis agreeing to pay $27,500 per month in child support for the ex-couple’s two children.
According to the court filings, the actors agreed to share joint custody of their 9-year-old son, Otis, and 6-year-old daughter, Daisy, on a “week-on, week-off basis.” Sudeikis will pay Wilde $10,300 per month for their son and $17,200 per month for their daughter.
Sudeikis has also agreed to fund 25% of Wilde’s childcare expenses.
Though the documents state that “the income of each party is in dispute and fluctuates,” it explains that the couple has agreed that “such disputes and fluctuations are not material to their agreement that Jason has an extraordinarily high income.” The filing adds that the amount determined under child support guidelines would surpass the children’s needs.

The actress/director made that clear during a recent appearance on “Subway Takes”, the one-minute talk show that takes place on a New York City subway train.
“Good singers shouldn’t do karaoke.”
During her chat with host Kareen Rahma, the conversation turned to karaoke, and Wilde shared her belief that only people who can’t sing should be doing karaoke.

“Neither at things, nor at people should one look,” warns Herod in Oscar Wilde’s Salomé. “Only in mirrors should one look, for mirrors do but show us masks.”
Atom Egoyan’s Seven Veils is not itself an adaptation of Salome but, rather, a fictional story about a production of Richard Strauss’ operatic version of Wilde’s take on the Biblical tale – a production very like the one which Egoyan himself directed back in 1996. It centres on Jeanine (Amanada Seyfried), a director whom he acknowledges is partly based on himself, but Jeanine’s situation is complicated by the fact that she has been tasked with reviving a production originally conceived by her now-dead lover Charles (whose widow is one of the producers) and inspired by stories which she shared about her own childhood.
Charles, we are told, liked to stand on the rehearsal bridge, and it’s in that liminal space that we begin,...

Before Olivia Wilde's psychological thriller "Don't Worry Darling" had even hit theaters, it had already stirred up a lot of buzz — and controversy. The rumors and gossip surrounding the film have long since died down, but its move to streaming on Netflix has kicked up a new cloud of conversation.
First, a quick rundown of the drama that was discussed more than the movie itself in its run-up to release. While "Don't Worry Darling" was still in production, the world learned that Wilde had ended her engagement to Jason Sudeikis and entered a relationship with the star of the movie, globally renowned singer and heartthrob Harry Styles. The relationship between Wilde and Styles was seen by some as a violation of on-set power dynamics, and given its proximity to her engagement to Sudeikis, it also looked like the relationship may have begun as an illicit affair.
As if the on-set romance wasn't controversial enough,...

If you saw the Aussie possession horror Talk To Me this summer, you’ll know two things: firstly, not to mess around with freaky ceramic hands which allow you to commune with the dead, fun as it might seem; and secondly, that Sophie Wilde is a very, very exciting actor. She’s in Netflix. It’s all about 16-year-old Londoner Mia, who’s just coming out of hospital after a long, long time recovering from and learning to manage anorexia. “Mirror, mirror, on the wall,” Wilde’s Mia mutters to herself. “Please give me a fucking break.” See what happens from there here:
As she goes on to explain, Mia only wants to “go back to school and see my friends and just be normal again”. But there’s else going on here: everything and everyone seems to have changed in the time she’s been away. Suddenly, people are...

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s episode!
Match #1: Grayson Waller & Austin Theory def. Rey Mysterio & Santos Escobar The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
United States Champion Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar came up just short of a tag team win as Grayson Waller and Austin Theory snuck out of Smackdown with major momentum. Waller and Theory looked like a well-oiled machine early on, but that faded after an inadvertent shot from Waller knocked Theory to the outside. Mysterio found himself in the crosshairs of a cheap shot from his Payback opponent Theory, but Escobar sacrificed himself and absorbed the blow, only for Waller to sneak in and hit his Rolling Stunner to pick up the win.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5 Match #2: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn def.

It’s a case of one score to rule them all, as Howard Shore’s stirring epic soundtrack for The Lord of the Rings trilogy was voted the U.K.’s favorite movie music.
Shore’s score for the Rings film, which has won three Academy Awards, three Golden Globes and four Grammys, came out ahead of some of the greatest and most recognizable soundtracks of all time, including John Williams’ music for Schindler’s List and Star Wars, which came second and third respectively.
The list of the top 100 film scores was compiled by popular U.K. radio station Classic FM, as part of their annual Movie Music Hall of Fame. More than 10,000 people voted for this year’s edition and the winner was revealed on Sunday by Jonathan Ross, the former presenter of the BBC’s Film program.
