Another doctor is scrubbing out of Grey’s Anatomy: Jake Borelli, who has played Dr. Levi Schmitt for the past seven years, will be leaving the ABC drama next season, our sister site Deadline reports.
The exit is reportedly due to budget cuts at Grey’s, which was renewed for a 21st season last month. Borelli “is in negotiations to return next season for several episodes to wrap up the story of his character,” per Deadline. In fact, the contracts of almost all of the ABC drama’s vets expire at the end of this season, so new deals will...

Grey’s Anatomy is the latest show to be working its way around cost-saving methods, with one of its series regulars exiting soon. Season 20 will be the last full one for Jake Borelli, who stars as Dr. Levi Schmitt, according to Deadline. However, don’t expect the finale, which airs on Thursday, May 30, to wrap up his story, as he is currently negotiating to appear in “several episodes” to do just that, the outlet notes. Nothing this far suggests how he could be written out, with Levi’s focus on teaching the current group of interns at Grey Sloan Memorial, though he did have a possibly telling encounter with his ex-boyfriend, Dr. Nico Kim (Alex Landi), during which he learned the other man was about to become a father with his new partner. We’ll have to see if that leads to ...

Exclusive: Jake Borelli will be departing ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy after seven years on the show, including being a series regular for the past five seasons, Deadline has learned. According to sources, Borelli is in negotiations to return next season for several episodes to wrap up the story of his character, Levi Schmitt.
Amid overall decline in linear ratings, it has become common practice for broadcast networks to ask for financial concessions on long-running series, which naturally become pricier as they age. As a high-end drama series headed into its 21st season with a large cast, most of whom have been on the show for years, Grey’s is expensive. I hear its renewal — like many other broadcast shows’ these days — came with a budget cut.
That is impacting the cast, with established stars faced with a reduction of their episodic guarantees, which means that they may be in fewer episodes next year,...

In her Season 20 preview for Deadline, new Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis called it “back to basics,” and the season premiere, which she wrote, offered just that. In a return to Grey’s early years, the episode ended with Bailey retaking charge of the surgical interns.
The opener started with the interns facing the music after getting themselves in trouble with questionable medical decisions in the Season 19 finale and Nick posing a question to them, “Which one of you am I firing?”
Banned from any doctor duties, the group find themselves in the middle of the action anyway. Simone and Lucas end up in the back of an ambulance trying to stabilize a patient with Bailey and Meredith’s directions while their parked vehicle is being hit by a wayward self-driving car every couple of minutes. (It is unclear why the ambulance was not moved away from the crashing car.

The wait is almost over. Nine months after the Season 19 finale of Grey’s Anatomy aired on ABC, Season 20 of the venerable medical drama created by Shonda Rhimes premieres on the network this Thursday, March 14. The new season has veteran Grey’s Anatomy writer-producer Meg Marinis at the helm as new showrunner, succeeding Krista Vernoff. It will bring back Jessica Capshaw, reprising her role as Dr. Arizona Robbins, and Alex Landi, returning as Dr. Nico Kim, with Natalie Morales and Freddy Miyares joining in recurring roles as pediatric surgeon Monica Beltran and patient Dorian, respectively.
“It’s the Grey’s Anatomy that fans have been missing for a year,” said Marinis. I’m sad it’s been so long, but we’ll come back, and we’ll come back as strong as ever.”
As revealed in the trailer released by ABC, Season 20 will pick up in the immediate aftermath of the Season 19 finale,...

Grey’s Anatomy fans everywhere are getting their wish:
Jessica Capshaw is returning as Arizona Robbins during Season 20 of the veteran medical drama.
The news came out of nowhere earlier this month, almost six years after the actress was written out of the show alongside Sarah Drew.
Neither actress had approached showrunners to depart, with the reason for their exits being put down to creative reasons.
And now, all these years later, Capshaw is scrubbing back in as Arizona, and we have the first photo to prove it.
Capshaw took to Instagram to show her back in scrubs and in character as Arizona, alongside some exciting information.
When will Jessica Capshaw’s first episode back air?
Capshaw captioned the photo with a date, which happens to be a Thursday, so it has to be her big comeback.
The highly-anticipated hour is set to air Thursday, April 4 at 9/8c.

It's a milestone 20th season of Grey's Anatomy knocking on our doors, and they're not holding back.
We saw that Grey's Anatomy Season 19 felt like a soft reboot of the series, simultaneously tapping into the nostalgia with throwback formats with new faces and the return of series fan favorites.
And Grey's Anatomy Season 20 promises to keep up that same energy.
To the relief of many, Ellen Pompeo didn't hang up her stethoscope permanently despite her minimal role last season, and we know for a fact that she'll make some appearances this season.
It's even been teased that she'll appear in the season premiere.
And Grey's Anatomy Season 19 also excited long-time fans with the epic return of Kate Walsh as Addison Montgomery.
Throughout the season, she helmed a critical and timely arc about women's health issues, taking on the abolishment of Roe v. Wade and showcasing the long-reaching ramifications of that decision on the healthcare industry.

When Grey’s Anatomy burst onto the scene and washed over the competition in 2005, Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey was front and center.
That all changed in 2023 when the original star departed as a series regular, dropping down to a recurring status.
As promotional material for Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 has trickled out, Meredith has been heavily featured in scenes that highlight her return to Seattle.
Beyond that, there was no confirmation of how long Pompeo would be on-screen.
Until now.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the beloved actress will appear in at least four episodes of the strike-shortened season.
Could Ellen Pompeo return for more episodes of Grey’s Anatomy Season 20?
Four episodes of a 10-episode season isn’t bad, but the outlet notes that Pompeo may appear in more than that.
At the time of her departure, Pompeo was set to produce and star in a limited series for Hulu.

Actress Jessica Capshaw, who spent 10 seasons playing Dr Arizona Robbins on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, is returning to reprise her role in the upcoming 20th season of the show. Look who’s roller-skating back into Grey Sloan Memorial: Jessica Capshaw will return to play Dr. Arizona Robbins in the upcoming 20th season of Grey’s Anatomy. Meanwhile, Alex Landi is coming back to play Dr. Nico Kim in Season 20 while Natalie Morales and Freddy Miyares guest-star, according to Deadline. Capshaw was last seen on Grey’s Anatomy in 2018, when Arizona, a pediatric surgeon, headed to New York City for a possible reunion with ex-wife Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) in the Season 14 finale. Both Capshaw and costar Sarah Drew were let go from the ABC medical drama at the end of Season 14 — much to fans’ outrage — though Drew has guest-starred in two more episodes since. Capshaw will be joined by Alex Landi, who returns as Dr. Nico Kim, and franchise newcomers Natalie Morales and Freddy Miyares as guest stars in the milestone season of the Shonda Rhimes-produced medical drama. Additional guest stars are expected to be announced as the show inches closer toward its strikes-delayed return on March 14 at 9 p.m.
Capshaw exited Grey’s in 2018, at the end of its 14th season when Arizona moved from Seattle to New York so her daughter, Sofia, could be in the same city with her other mother, Callie (former series regular Sara Ramirez), as the fan-favorite former couple “Calzona” appeared poised for a reunion.

Expect to see some familiar faces returning to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital soon.
Jessica Capshaw is set to guest star in Season 20 of Grey’s Anatomy, reprising her beloved role as Dr. Arizona Robbins. Also Alex Landi will return as Dr. Nico Kim.
No word yet on how, exactly, these two will make their way back to Grey Sloan. Capshaw joined the cast in Season 5 and remained until Season 14, when Arizona left Seattle during the finale to move to New York so that her daughter Sophia could be closer to her other mom, Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez).
Landi recurred on the show from Seasons 15 to 18, before exiting in May 2022. While he was on the show, he was in an on-again off-again relationship with his co-worker Dr. Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli), who is still on the show.
Additionally, Grey’s Anatomy is also adding two new faces, Natalie Morales and Freddy Miyares.

It’s hard to believe Grey’s Anatomy has been on the air for almost 20 years.
As a midseason replacement back in 2005, the show wasn’t expected to break out in the way it has done.
Despite big casting shake-ups, it remains one of ABC’s most popular dramas and will likely be on the air for countless more years.
With Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 just around the corner, it’s time to take a look at everything we know about the milestone season.
We even have an update on Ellen Pompeo’s return as Meredith Grey.
Get all the details below.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 20: when will it premiere?
The medical drama will return from an extended hiatus on Thursday, March 14, at 9/8c.
Unlike previous years, it will air out of 9-1-1, which is moving from Fox.

Sam Spade is back on the case.
The iconic private detective famously played by Humphrey Bogart in The Maltese Falcon is coming to AMC in Monsieur Spade (premiering this Sunday at 9/8c), with Clive Owen taking on the role. It’s a responsibility that Owen doesn’t take lightly, he tells TVLine: “I’m actually a huge fan of the genre. Dr. Levi Schmitt stepped out of the hospital, went to a party and found himself a new love interest on “Grey’s Anatomy.” And that’s just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the character played by Jake Borelli.
Levi has been single for more than a year after stepping away from the first relationship between two gay men to be featured regularly on the long-running ABC medical drama. Fans were passionate about the pairing of Levi (Jake Borelli) and Dr. Nico Kim (Alex Landi) for many seasons but welcomed the arrival of traveling nurse Carlos (Calvin Seabrooks) with messages of support on social media when the character was introduced in the March 9 episode of “Grey’s.”

Dr. Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli) is really going through it right now on Grey’s Anatomy, and there doesn’t seem to be a bright light in sight for him. After a patient died on his table, Levi couldn’t make it through the M&m (morbidity and mortality conference) and hasn’t been back to the hospital since. When his boyfriend, Dr. Nico Kim (Alex Landi) tried to talk to him, Levi say they were “done.” Then, when Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) stopped by, Levi told him, “I appreciate you coming here … trying to salvage my career, rescue me. But you’re too late. I’ve already bled out. There’s nothing left to save.” Borelli takes us inside this arc, teases what’s ahead, and shares who might have the best shot at getting through to Levi. Exclusive: Alex Landi (Grey’s Anatomy) is set for a recurring role opposite Keegan Allen and Jared Padalecki in the CW’s Walker, a reimagining of CBS’ long-running 1990s action/crime series Walker, Texas Ranger, from Rideback and CBS Studios.
Like the original series, created by Albert S. Ruddy & Leslie Greif, the reboot, in which Walker is getting a female partner, will explore morality, family and rediscovering our lost common ground. It centers on Cordell Walker (Padalecki), a widower and father of two with his own moral code who returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years, only to discover there’s harder work to be done at home.
Landi will play Bret, Liam’s (Allen) fiancé. Bret is genuinely in love with Liam – but he thinks Manhattan is the place to be, and that he and Liam should lead a swellegant life where the only horses are in Central Park.

The Asian Pacific American Media Coalition (Apamc) released their annual TV report card, grading the top four television networks for the 2018-2019 season assessing their progress toward diversity and inclusion of Asian Pacific Americans (APAs) onscreen and behind the camera and although there was some progress, it wasn’t enough to make the needle move dramatically. In fact, it barely moved at all.
The report card evaluated the networks on the following categories: acting (regular and recurring), unscripted (hosts and contestants), writer/producers, directors, development, commitment to diversity and diversity department relationship. ABC had an overall grade of B while CBS came in at a B- and NBC scored a C, all on par with their 2017-2018 marks. Fox scored the lowest with a C-, but it is a remarkable increase from the F it received last season.

Patty’s at it again! Netflix on Monday released the trailer for Insatiable‘s upcoming second season (Oct. 11), teasing more insane shenanigans courtesy of Debby Ryan‘s bloodthirsty beauty queen character.
