The Walking Dead‘s Michael Cudlitz is going from the wastelands of a zombie apocalypse to the highrises of Metropolis when he joins the cast of Superman & Lois for the show’s third season. According to Entertainment Weekly, Cudlitz is playing a new version of the supervillain genius known to hold the DC Universe in a vice-like grip tighter than Superman’s most aggressive handshake.
Per the EW’s official description, “Cudlitz’s Lex Luthor is known to the world as the visionary billionaire behind LexCorp, but secretly, the criminal underworld knows who Lex truly is: a brutal psychopath who terrorizes anyone he crosses paths with. When Lex debuts this season, it’s been years since he dropped out of the public eye, and he’s re-emerging hellbent on correcting a personal injustice by enacting revenge on the two people he feels have wronged him — Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane...

Subtle storytelling isn't effortless.
Too often, the urge is to use overly dramatic plotlines to make points with the belief a lesser approach will find a filmmaker's point overlooked.
Nani Li Yan directs Beneath the Banyan Tree with a deftly subtle hand that underscores a Chinese family's struggle to continue tradition while accepting that they can live outside traditional beliefs.
If the way Yang delivers the story is relatively simple, what the story conveys is not.
But the approach allows non-Chinese speakers to grasp fully what a family is experiencing by allowing the actors to perform, often in silence.
The lens captures the beauty of every moment, joyful or troubled, as this tale of a family finding renewed connection while entirely out of their element unfolds.
Ai-Jai (Kathy Wu) left China for California to escape her mother's control.
But when her mother, Mrs. Jia-Rong Woo, is abandoned by her husband...

Chicago – Chicago’s Asian Pop-Up Cinema (Apuc) continues their “Funniest Stay-At-Home Short Film Competition, and the deadline is extended through May 15th, 2020. The idea is – while many of us are staying at home during the pandemic quarantine – to create a one-minute film while you’re “inside.”
Put your phone to “video” setting or get your most expensive Panavision camera out and shoot a one minute short film (editing is accepted) that expresses the funny side of our current inside-the-home life. A panel of judges from around the world, combining local experts (Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com is chair of the Selection Committee) and international Asian Pop-Up contributors – including actors Christian Bables of the Philippines and Kathy Wu in Los Angeles – will take part in determining the Top Five best of the submissions. Those five will be shown on the big screen during Apuc’s Season 11.

Chicago – How do you communicate Hong Kong’s homeless situation in a fresh and relatable way? Wong Hing Fan’s new film “I’m Livin’ It” takes on not only poverty, but the shortage of housing for professional and working class people. The main setting is a 24 hour burger restaurant – with the sly marketing slogan of “I’m Livin’ It!”
Once a star in his finance firm, Bowen (Aaron Kwok) now spends his nights in that fast food joint, which allows the homeless an overnight respite area, and he encounters other “roommates” who are in a similar predicament. There is a child and her mother (Cya Liu) – who has taken out high interest loans to cover her mother-in-law’s debt, an old man (Alex Man) who is too afraid to go home, a young runaway (Zeno Koo), and a singer (Miriam Yeung) who was part of the financier’s past.

You are? Then stop reading any firther and go out and buy Lady Bloodfight. Right now. Go on. You can come back here later to read what I think…. Shop’s are shut? Go buy it digitally. Now.
Why? Because Lady Bloodfight is The female equivalent of Bloodsport. It may have taken 28 years but we’ve finally got one. It’s just as badass, just as packed with top-notch martial arts and...

Bullets fly in a when the crime boss’s gang turn up to try and rescue him, and the cop must prevent innocent lives from being caught in the crossfire.
Johnny To’s hospital-set thriller is a Die Hard-esque tale that instantly recalls the John Woo classic Hard Boiled and yet is in no way similar in story and action. "Where did you learn to fight like that?" Vertical Entertainment has released the first trailer for an indie called Lady Bloodfight, about a woman who trains to fight in an underground martial arts tournament in Asia. This kinda, sorta seems like an all-women version of Jcvd's Bloodsport, but with its own modern cinematic quirks. Amy Johnston plays a woman named Jane who is recruited by Shu, a Wudang champion played by Muriel Hofmann, to participate in the tournament. The full cast includes Jenny Wu, Kathy Wu, Mayling Ng, Jet Tranter, Sunny Coelst, Rosemary Vandebrouck, Lisa Cheng, Chalinene Bassinah, and Lauren Rhoden. This looks both extremely cheesy and extremely badass, I'm definitely intrigued, but also worried it's going to be straight-to-dvd quality. We'll have to see ourselves. Take a look. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Chris Nahon's Lady Bloodfight, direct from YouTube: A blonde woman named Jane (Amy Johnston) arrives in Asia,...
