This Star Wars: The Mandalorian article contains spoilers.
Technically, Disney+’s The Mandalorian is part of the biggest franchise on earth. But it doesn’t always feel that way.
True, it’s a Star Wars property, and it rarely lets you forget that fact. The show is rife with references to the films and animated series that have come before it and it enjoys padding out existing lore in ways that only the most hardcore of fans will care about—or possibly even notice. (Did you remember there was a krayt dragon skeleton in A New Hope? Be honest.)
The Mandalorian isn’t a story that requires a tremendous amount of Star Wars knowledge to follow or enjoy. And that’s because its central tale is one that follows rules and patterns we’ve all seen before. A mix of tropes from classic spaghetti westerns and samurai adventures, the show...

After Episode IX redefined what it means to be a Skywalker, Star Wars has now seemingly confirmed that Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn was an agent of balance in his own generation.
The Rise of Skywalker didn’t simply backtrack from Rian Johnson’s dismissive philosophy about lineage and legacy but rather expanded the definition through Rey. A Palpatine by blood and a Skywalker by choice, the last movie in the saga proved that Rey is the Chosen One, much like Anakin was, but not because of their prowess in utilizing the living Force. The Chosen One is an agent of balance.
Now, a recent tie-in novel titled Secrets of the Jedi, written by Luke Skywalker when he studied the Force after the fall of the Galactic Empire, not only details the truths of the light and the dark sides, but also explains why some Jedi Knights were more significant than others.

Lucasfilm has finally given us a glimpse of Star Wars: The High Republic by releasing a chapter of the first book, Charles Soule’s Light of the Jedi.
Set 200 years before the Skywalker Saga, the team behind the new publishing initiative has described this era as the galaxy’s golden age, with the Jedi Order at the height of their power and the Galactic Senate maintaining peace and justice across the Core Worlds and beyond. The newly released chapter, meanwhile, teases that it’s not all going to be fun and games and the next big disaster is coming for the heroes of the High Republic. It doesn’t give away too much of the plot, mind you, but there are still some interesting details that give us an idea about what this period will roughly look like.

The Prequel era of Star Wars concluded with the battle between two brothers when Anakin and Obi-Wan confronted each other on Mustafar, with the latter dismembering his padawan and leaving him for dead on a slope of the lava planet.
It’s true that the Original Trilogy ended on a sweet note and gave the heroes the happy endings they’d fought and sacrificed for, but George Lucas always intended the Prequels to mirror the tragedy of his tale. If Star Wars is the story of the Chosen One, then these movies, and Revenge of the Sith, in particular, depict how even the greatest heroes can fall from grace. At long last, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine’s evil plan came to fruition with the execution of Order 66, prompting the Grand Army of the Republic to hunt down and kill the Jedi Knights. With more than ten movies, dozens of video games, hundreds of books and comics, and other stories in every medium imaginable, you’d think that there aren’t any mysteries left in the world of Star Wars, but we still don’t have the answer to one of our oldest questions about the Force and its embodiments.
That’s hardly surprising, though. That galaxy far, far away has always been a science-fantasy and the enigma surrounding the mysterious Force is an intentional plot tool. That is, if we disregard the whole controversial shebang involving the introduction of midi-chlorians in the Prequels. But one of the more interesting aspects of the Cosmic Force, which has been present since the Original Trilogy, is the matter of Force Ghosts and their existence. Can all Jedi Knights turn into Force Ghosts? Can these beings interact with the real world?
Yoda and Obi-Wan seemingly mastered this area before their demise,...

Star Wars fans tend to think that the reason we don’t see Jedi Knights fighting side by side the Rebellion in the Original Trilogy era is because of Order 66, but creator George Lucas has a different explanation.
By the end of the Clone Wars, Palpatine’s evil plan came to fruition. Darth Sidious issued Order 66, compelling the entire Grand Army of the Republic to hunt down and kill the Jedi. Shortly afterward, Anakin took the 501st to storm the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, killing dozens of Jedi Masters, Knights, Padawans and younglings. At the end of Revenge of the Sith, only a handful of Jedi Knights were left alive, including Grand Master Yoda and Obi-Wan.
As such, we’ve seen that in the war against the Galactic Empire, there aren’t a lot of Force-wielding light side warriors to help the Rebellion out. Of course, we’d always assumed...

Last week’s episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars delved deeper into the hypocrisy of the Jedi; something that would ultimately lead to their undoing.
While George Lucas wanted to show the wisdom and grandeur of the Jedi in the Prequel era, he also decided to depict their folly in failing to recognize the Sith and drowning in the politics of the Clone Wars in a race for more power and influence over the Galactic Republic. Dave Filoni’s hit animated series has always done a great job of portraying these darker sides of the old Jedi, but since the seventh and final season must tie into the events of Revenge of the Sith, this plot thread is bolder than ever, especially now that the story is focusing on Ahsoka Tano after she left the Jedi Order due to realizing the same hypocrisy.

The new publishing initiative at the Skywalker Ranch, under the supervision of Lucasfilm, promises to introduce us to a different side of that galaxy far, far away. Project Luminous will be a series of novels and comic books that expand on a fresh narrative taking place 200 years before the events of Episode I – The Phantom Menace, in an era known as the High Republic.

In eight short years, Bob Iger’s acquisition of Lucasfilm for a hefty $4.05 billion price tag has already paid enormous dividends, from Disney’s five Star Wars films that earned an average of $1.18 billion each (even accounting for Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s underwhelming performance) to the opening of the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge sections of Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios to next year’s debut of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser wholly-immersive resort experience.
The company’s streaming service Disney+ has also opened up a whole new world of storytelling possibilities in that galaxy far, far away. The Mandolorian became one of the most popular streaming series in the history of the medium, rocking the Internet with the unspoiled introduction of The Child, and the series is set to be followed by shows focusing on Rogue One‘s captain Cassian Andor and exiled Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi.

When someone mentions the word "Jedi," images of Star Wars characters in monk-like robes who wield lightsabers probably come to mind. Most people know that they're the good guys who use the Force and might even know who some important Jedi are. But given that the latest Star Wars movie will feature one of the biggest villains in Star Wars history, it may be helpful to know even more about what exactly the good guys can do. Read on for a breakdown!
The Force
A Jedi is someone who is Force-sensitive, but what is the Force? According to Obi-Wan Kenobi, it's "an energy field created by all living things . . . It binds the galaxy together." Force-users have access to several extraordinary abilities, such as telekinesis, precognition, and persuasion (more famously known as a Jedi mind trick). In order to master their powers, Force-users undergo training. One organization that provides such training is the Jedi Order.

Ahead of The Rise of Skywalker, we look back at The Phantom Menace, the movie that reignired Star Wars fever in the late '90s.
This Star Wars article contains spoilers.
Every saga has a beginning. Episode I of the Star Wars "Skywalker Saga" was faced with a unique challenge when it was released in cinemas in the summer of 1999. As the first part of a Prequel Trilogy charged with "setting up" one of the most successful and beloved movie series of all time, the sheer weight of fan expectation placed upon The Phantom Menace's shoulders was pretty much unprecedented.
Star Wars creator George Lucas had been toying with the idea of expanding his original trilogy into a wider cinematic saga right from the very beginning but, as the filmmaker admitted to Time magazine in 1983, he had been “burned out” by the release of the final chapter,...

Much of the Star Wars franchise revolves around the heroic and noble Jedi Knights, who live by a code that preaches peace and serenity while warning against passion and emotional outbursts. Sometimes it feels like the Star Wars fanbase might have missed the memo on this, as many of them appear perpetually incandescent with white-hot fury. The most notable recent example was the pummeling that director Rian Johnson received in the wake of The Last Jedi, which continues in some form nearly two years after the film’s release.
So, perhaps when David Benioff and D.B. Weiss claim that one reason their Star Wars trilogy was cancelled was that they didn’t want to have to deal with what’s being described as a “toxic fandom,” they have a point. After all, they’re already on the receiving end of abuse resulting from the final season of Game of Thrones,...

One of the big announcements at Disney’s D23 Expo in August was that Ewan McGregor would be returning to the “Star Wars” universe to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi for a new television series set to air on Disney+. Here are the three reasons why a planet from the prequels may return in The Rise of Skywalker.
"For a thousand generations, the Republic and the Jedi Knights kept the peace in the galaxy, governing from the planet Coruscant. Since 1991, Star Wars fans have thought of Coruscant as a pivotal planet, a place filled with tons of history — and also a great cityscape for a good chase sequence. The prequel trilogy’s most pivotal scenes happened on Coruscant, and now, as the Skywalker saga is set to end in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, there’s a strong argument that this film needs to check in on the famous planet. According to Disney CEO Bob Iger, there are six new Star Wars movies currently in development at Disney and Lucasfilm.
There are "half a dozen Star Wars films in various stages of development," according to Disney CEO Bob Iger (via Deadline). We know at least one of these movies will be directed, written, and produced by Game of Thrones creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, and it's likely that the duo will have its hand in some of the other films.
Iger did not confirm any titles or additional directors or writers for the other five movies. The first of these new movies, the one to be directed by the Thrones duo, is set to arrive in Dec. 2022.
The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is also working on his own trilogy of movies, separate from the films being developed by Weiss and Benioff, but Iger didn't offer any updates on that front.

Today, Director/Writer J.J. Abrams and Producer Kathleen Kennedy were joined by stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Kelly Marie Tran, Oscar Isaac, Billy Dee Williams, Naomi Ackie, Joonas Suotamo and Anthony Daniels, and droids Bb-8 and D-0, for a panel discussion at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, moderated by Stephen Colbert.
It was a day of surprises at Star Wars Celebration for the enthusiastic fans in attendance as the title of the final installment of the Skywalker saga was also revealed, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and along with the first trailer for the film a brand-new teaser poster.
Where do we start!?!? The trailer is brilliantly cut and is very cool!
The nostalgic sound of “Luke and Leia” theme by John Williams from Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi puts this first look at the final film over the edge!

Though it’s generally agreed that the Star Wars films took a significant downturn in quality with the Prequel Trilogy, many elements from these oft-ridiculed movies sprung from the mind of a younger George Lucas who’d only just kicked off the Original Trilogy.
These early ideas are heavily explored in J.W. Rinzler’s book The Making of Star Wars, which observes how much of Sheev Palpatine’s journey across the prequels was mapped out decades in advance. Just take this excerpt from the notes written by Lucas back in 1977, in which the filmmaker describes how the Emperor came to power through crafty political maneuvering:
“One of the Chancellor’s began subverting the Senate and buying off the Senators with the help of the large intergalactic power companies… By the time the third term came along, he had corrupted so much of the Senate that they made him Emperor...

Animated short series Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures will reinvent classic movie moments for a new generation.
The classic Star Wars movie mythos is getting a facelift of sorts. – Don’t worry, purists, this isn’t an article about George Lucas editing breakdancing CGI Jawas into the Mos Eisley cantina. Rather, an intriguing new animated project has been announced, called Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures, which will take iconic moments from the Star Wars Original and Prequel trilogies and stylize them in a series of shorts, designed to introduce the franchise to a younger generation.
Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures is making an imminent arrival on November 30 on the new official YouTube channel for the Star Wars Kids branding. Rian Johnson’s sci-fi sequel will inspire kids 30 years from now to reintroduce it to awestruck audiences
Spoiler Warning: There is discussion of the film’s content in the following review, so proceed with caution
When I was a young nerdlinger playing with Star Wars toys in the backyard I had a very specific fantasy. Not just having Chewbacca as a best friend ... in the movie in my mind, Jedi Knights would defeat their foes by taking their at-rest lightsabers, pressing the hilt against someone’s head and then activating its emitter. Man, wouldn’t that be a savage way to take out some Mos Eisley scum and villainy? But surely I’d never get a chance to see something that awesome in a Star Wars movie, right?
