Alien and Aliens are two of the most highly respected and beloved sci-fi horror films ever made… and all of the films that have followed have either been divisive in one way or another, or just flat-out poorly received. One of the least popular entries in the franchise is the 1997 installment Alien: Resurrection (watch it Here), which put some fans off with its wild and weird tone and its crazy ideas. Decades down the line, Alien: Resurrection director Jean-Pierre Jeunet is currently doing the press rounds to promote a theatrical re-release of his very popular 2001 romantic comedy Amélie, and JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols took the opportunity to ask him about the making of his Alien sequel. Here’s how it went:
Tyler Nichols: I’m also a big horror fan, so I have to ask you about your work on Alien: Resurrection. Because I still think of the underwater...

Talk about a bad first date!
On Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 3, Hannah's date was interrupted when a man and his girlfriend passed out and almost died thanks to fentanyl-laced cocaine -- was that a sign from the universe that this wasn't the man for her?
Probably, especially considering who else was there... and what happened afterward. But maybe it all happened for a reason, and she'll wake up to see who her Mr. Right is soon.
Chicago Med's strength has always been in combining personal and medical stories. This was the first time that a doctor ended up operating on a woman who considered them her worst enemy, though.
Tessa's labor was predictable. As soon as the camera focused on her sizable baby bump, I knew a tired TV trope about pregnant women was coming.
Trying to refuse Hannah's help while she was in labor was silly. That was...

Marvel Comics has been publishing issues of their anthology series What If…? – which takes familiar scenarios from their comics and explores what might have happened if things had played out differently or if characters had taken different paths in life – since 1977. Now the series, which has included such titles as “What If Spider-Man Had Joined the Fantastic Four?”, “What If Thor of Asgard Had Met Conan the Barbarian?”, and “What If The Punisher’s Family Had Not Been Killed?”, is being infiltrated by the Alien franchise. Marvel gained the comic book rights to the Alien franchise when Disney acquired 20th Century Fox a few years back, and now they’re set to publish the five-issue limited series Aliens: What If…? that asks the question, “What if Carter Burke had lived?”
Paul Reiser played the slimy Carter Burke in writer/director James Cameron’s 1986 classic Aliens. Burke was a junior executive for the Weyland-Yutani Corporation,...

Hyped as an interactive sequel to James Cameron’s 1986 classic, Aliens: Colonial Marines was a disappointment in 2013. We look back at how its plot could have changed the Alien franchise…
In 2011, it all looked so promising. As narrated by Gearbox Software studio boss Randy Pitchford, a demo of Aliens: Colonial Marines, unveiled at that year’s E3, hinted at the kind of game fans of the Alien franchise had been eagerly awaiting for years. It was a first-person shooter made by a respected studio – Gearbox had just had a hit with Borderlands – and was billed as a direct sequel to James Cameron’s 1986 film, Aliens. It even had a couple of familiar actors returning to provide their voices.
The demo gave a tantalising glimpse of what looked like a thoroughly engrossing narrative blaster. It took the player back to Lv-426, the setting of Alien and Aliens, and as one of several Colonial Marines,...

Is Marcel right that Zola is the new Will?
She came to Gaffney on Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 2 with a questionable past, got placed on probation, and kept annoying Marcel -- but in the end was two-for-two on her diagnoses.
She checks all the boxes for a Will replacement, but no one can be a carbon copy of the erstwhile rogue doctor, so let's hope there's more to her than that.
Zola has advanced medical knowledge. I don't know how far she got in her previous residency before she was fired, but it probably feels to her like a step backward to start all over again.
Sharon: Dr. Melvoin spoke very highly of the time you worked together at the Mayo Clinic.
Zola: That's very generous of him.
Sharon: Except Mayo itself was less enthusiastic. Evidently your residency was terminated for what they deemed 'vigilante medicine?'

Andrew Scott stars in a new adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s Ripley for Netflix – here’s the trailer to prove it.
Patricia Highsmith’s Ripley series has enjoyed a storied history on screens big and small, with adaptations including 1960 French film Purple Noon starring Alain Delain and Anthony Minghella’s big budget 1999 version of The Talented Mr Ripley starring Matt Damon.
Perhaps the most intriguing take on the material was when Wim Wenders cast Dennis Hopper as Ripley for his 1974 film The American Friend.
The latest adaptation, which was originally produced for Showtime but is now premiering on Netflix, is called, appropriately enough, Ripley, and it is filmed in black and white.
It appears to be a passion project for Schindler’s List scribe Steven Zaillian, who serves as writer, showrunner, director and executive producer.

Fanatic Feed: Razzie Nominations Revealed, Constellation, Ripley, Apples Never Fall All Get Trailers
It's a big day for highly anticipated new streaming series, two of which just released their first trailers.
First, we have Constellation, the AppleTV sci-fi thriller starring Noomi Rapace and Jonathan Banks.
Rapace plays an astronaut who returns to Earth after a stint on a space station and finds that her life has changed in a number of small, subtle ways.
In his best world-weary "go home, Walter" voice, Banks explains that astronauts have a tendency to become "unstuck" after spending too much time in space.
What does that mean, exactly?
Well, we guess we'll have to watch the spacy drama unfold to find out!
It's tough to discern much about the plot from the trailer, but it looks like the series will enter supernatural horror territory as it progresses.
There's some weirdness involving Rapace's daughter, and the trailer delivers some genuinely spine-tingling creepy kid moments.
It also has lots...

We've come a long way since Andrew Scott chewed up the scenery and forever altered our brain chemistry during those early "Sherlock" days, haven't we? The ultra-charismatic actor once best-known for his role as Moriarty has since played another bad guy (to somewhat diminishing returns) in 2015's "Spectre," stole all our collective hearts and minds in Prime's "Fleabag" series opposite Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and further doubled down on his romantic leading man status most recently in "All of Us Strangers." Now, apparently, the time has come to go full brooding antihero.

We've been eagerly anticipating the Alien prequel series from Noah Hawley for a long time.
The long-gestating project has had several bumps in the road, but thankfully, it's finally beginning to take shape.
As a result, we've rounded up everything there is to know about the series that will take us into the universe before Sigourney Weaver made her mark as Ripley.
Alien: Will the FX Series Feature Sigourney Weaver as Ripley?
Sigourney Weaver's Ripley was the main attraction of the countless movies, but don't expect Ripley to be a part of this story.
According to FX, the new series takes place long before Ripley is in space.
"Alien takes place before Ripley. It's the first story that takes place in the Alien franchise on Earth," said FX exec John Landgraf to Deadline in 2022.

The future of the "Alien" franchise is beginning to come into focus. Fede Alvarez is directing a new movie in the long-running sci-fi series that is due to hit theaters next year. It's going to be the first one under Disney's reign following the studio's acquisition of Fox back in 2019. Now, we know when the movie will take place in the overall timeline and it's going to be both a prequel and a sequel. Kind of.
Cailee Spaeny is set to lead the cast of the latest "Alien" film, which is rumored to be titled "Alien: Romulus," and recently spoke with Variety about it. Naturally, she couldn't reveal much by way of specifics, although the actor did explain that the film will take place between Ridley Scott's original "Alien" and James Cameron's follow-up "Aliens." Here's what she had to say about it:

Cailee Spaeny plays the title character in director Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla Presley biopic Priscilla, and she also happens to have a lead role in director Fede Alvarez’s upcoming addition to the Alien franchise, a film that may or may not be titled Alien: Romulus. That movie is on track for an August 16, 2024 theatrical release – and while talking with Variety‘s Michaela Zee, Spaeny revealed that the story is set between the events of the original Alien and its sequel Aliens.
Spaeny said, “It’s supposed to slot in between the first movie and the second movie. They brought the same team from Aliens, the James Cameron film. The same people who built those xenomorphs actually came on and built ours. So getting to see the original design with the original people who have been working on these films for 45-plus years and has been so much of their life has been really incredible.

Welcome to this review of 2023’s Survivor Series, which delivers yet another WarGames pay-per-view following last year’s debut. Hopefully this year’s PPV lives up to the standard set by last year’s show! Let’s see shall we…
Match #1: Women’s WarGames Match – Bianca Belair, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch & Shotzi def. Damage Ctrl The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Despite the palpable tension between teammates Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair heading into this fierce contest, their undeniable chemistry proved to be too much for the new and improved Damage Ctrl. Presenting themselves a unified front, Damage Ctrl entered the arena, adorn in masks, leaving Bayley remove her mask and face The Man as the first two competitors. After Lynch’s team won the Ruffles WarGames Advantage poll, Shotzi entered third and brought her unhinged energy — as well as some chairs and trash cans to take out The Role Model.

Actor Cailee Spaeny has confirmed that the events of Alien: Romulus will unfold between those of 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens.
When it was announced last year that Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez would be heading up a new movie in the Alien franchise, the line was that its story (co-written by Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues) would be unconnected to the previous films.
That’s likely still true, but we now at least know when the plot of Alien: Romulus will take place – between the events of 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens. Rumours of this timeline placement have been floating around for a few months now, but actor Cailee Spaeny, who has a currently undisclosed role in Romulus, recently confirmed this to Variety's Michaela Zee.
“It’s supposed to slot in between the first movie and the second movie,” Spaeny said. “They brought the same team from Aliens, the James Cameron film.

The Gotham Awards are a night to celebrate independent film, but Cailee Spaeny snuck in a tease for 20th Century Studios’ upcoming “Alien: Romulus” when asked about the project on the red carpet Monday evening. The “Priscilla” star is leading the Fede Alvarez-directed revival, which has been described as a standalone story in the “Alien” universe. Now, Spaeny has confirmed a rumor regarding its place within the continuity of the franchise.

Director Fede Alvarez should now be in production on the new movie in the Alien franchise, a project which may or may not be called Alien Romulus. Originally designed to debut on Hulu, Disney recently announced an August 16, 2024 theatrical release date for the movie, which bodes well for its quality. So as a filmmaker who’s known for moments of brutal, cringe-inducing violence works to bring the Xenomorphs back to our screens, we decided it was time to put together an article that keeps track of Everything We Know About Fede Alvarez’s New Alien Movie.

First, we have to address whether or not Alien: Romulus is really the movie’s title. The fact is, we don’t know. It could very well be a working title or a codename title that will end up being changed down the line. The first time we ever saw the Alien: Romulus...

Oscar-winning writer/director Emerald Fennell bowled audiences over with A Proming Young Woman, her intelligent, taut thriller directorial debut. This year, Emerald Fennell brings us Saltburn, a star-studded dark comedy dealing with the British class divide and privilege, with an unsettling, horror film slant. Even the film’s Gothic script title treatment sets the mood for this contemporary twisty thriller.
Set in the mid-2000s, Saltburn stars Barry Keoghan as Oliver Quick, a bright scholarship student at Oxford who is eager to fit in socially with the upper crust as succeed academically. The academics are easy for Oliver, but social class aspirations are another matter. Finding himself on the outside, persistent Oliver eventually is befriended by handsome, charming, aristocratic Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), one of the most popular students at his college. When Felix learns the working-class lad has nowhere to go for the summer break,...

Director Mohamed Diab got started working on dramas, making his feature debut with the 2010 film Cairo 678, about “three women and their search for justice from the daily plight of sexual harassment in Egypt.” That was followed by the 2016 film Clash, which takes place entirely inside a police van and shows what happens when “a number of detainees from different political and social backgrounds are brought together by fate”. In 2021, he made Amira, which showed that a “girl’s world is turned upside down when she learns the man she grew up idolizing is not her real father.” Then he shifted gears, directing four of the six episodes that made up the Marvel / Disney+ series Moon Knight. And now Deadline reports that Diab has signed on to direct a sci-fi thriller called Leap.

Tom Cruise has made a career out of playing action heroes. Jessica Chastain, however, was very new to the role when she was cast in The Debt. Fortunately, she was able to find inspiration from Cruise to feel believable in a very unfamiliar role.

Chastain once starred alongside Sam Worthington in the 2010 thriller The Debt. The feature saw the actor portraying the younger version of Helen Mirren’s character in the film, who was a Mossad agent. Back then, Chastain considered the feature her first official introduction to the action genre.
“I think every role is so different that I’m playing, that every role is kind of the first to introduce me. Like this is my introduction to the action-thriller genre,” she once told Vulture.

Parenthood is terrifying, and not just because of all the financial costs. The last time (and only time) Aardman Animations made a sequel to one of its beloved stop-motion animated features, the result was "A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon," a pretty charming love letter to classic sci-fi cinema. So the bar is set even higher for "Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget," the long-awaited follow-up to "Chicken Run." The studio's 2000 riff on "The Great Escape" is still the highest-grossing stop-motion animated movie of all time and, for some animation enthusiasts, remains Aardman's crowning achievement, which is no minor feat. I mean, we're talking about the same studio that "28 Days Later" director Danny Boyle praised for creating "the best action sequence I've ever seen in a film" in "Wallace and Gromit -- The Wrong Trousers."
"Dawn of the Nugget" sees the feathered freedom fighter fowl formerly found flocking on Tweedy's Farm living out their dreams of paradise on a lovely island bird sanctuary.

Fargo TV series creator Noah Hawley has been developing an Alien TV series for “FX on Hulu” for the last couple years (here’s everything we know about it), and with all of the scripts written the show was able to go into production in Thailand earlier this year. Then it ran into some trouble due to the Screen Actors Guild strike, having to shoot around cast members who happen to be SAG members. But it’s still moving forward – and during a recent panel at the Austin Film Festival (as reported by Slash Film), Hawley hinted that he’s going to be shaking up some of the familiar elements of the Alien franchise, including finding a way to play with the xenomorph life cycle.
FX head John Landgraf has previously revealed the timeframe the Alien TV show is set in. He told Deadline, “There are some big surprises in store for the audience.

The "Halloween" franchise has been through it. John Carpenter's masterful 1978 original essentially launched the slasher craze, but the filmmaker had little creative interest in mapping out a horror franchise. He wanted to use his 1980s box office clout to make increasingly ambitious movies in all manner of fantastic genres. Still, there was simply too much money to be made off his low-budget triumph, so he reluctantly participated in its exploitation as a producer and, for a couple of films at least, story generator.
And when audiences rejected his (brilliant) non-Michael Myers installment, "Halloween III: Season of the Witch," he checked out entirely, allowing the producers to mine the white-masked fiend for a series of quick-and-progressively-silly cash-ins.

David Fincher is one of the most important filmmakers of his generation – endlessly praised, shamelessly ripped off and somehow still undervalued (He still hasn’t won a Best Director Oscar).
His work conjures up darkened hallways, dogged detectives and crazed killers. The word “Fincherian” has come to describe something twisted and somehow beautiful. As an artist he frequently pushes the boundaries of what is possible technologically, while also playing with the comfort level of his audience. If it doesn’t feel a little bit dangerous, is it even a David Fincher movie?
With “The Killer,” in theaters now and on Netflix on November 10, Fincher takes us on another wild journey, this time alongside a sardonic hit man (Michael Fassbender). In celebration of “The Killer,” we thought we’d look back at his entire filmography. It’s a journey as dark and labyrinthine as anything the filmmaker could cook up.

Seeing as Weaver was an action star in her own right, she might’ve fit right in with The Expendables crew. Her role as Ripley in the iconic Alien franchise helped cement her status, which was a rarity back in those early days. In a 2014 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stallone pitched a story where he and Weaver would actually be a married couple. He quipped that she would be the leader of The Expendabelles.
“With The Expendabelles we’ve got a situation where we’re in unchartered waters. Do we put all women actresses together, would that really work?...

Science fiction allows storytellers to push past the expected limitations of the real world to create a more fantastical vision of the human condition. Of course, these leaps in logic and reason sometimes prove too much and need to be reeled back in, so as to not lose an audience. For movie projects, these creative compromises come with the addition of making a story not only work for an audience but the studio producing and distributing the films. In short, not every planned scene makes it into a final film, even for something as otherworldly as sci-fi movies.
Deleted scenes always hit the cutting room floor for a reason, whether they slow down a movie's pacing too much or give away details about the story too early. In some cases, more graphic content gets trimmed to secure a rating desired by the studio ahead of a wide release. With that in mind,...

One of the more interesting hidden-in-plain-sight details from the "Alien" franchise is how James Cameron's "Aliens" established that Veronica Cartwright's character in "Alien" was trans. We get a glimpse of Lambert's personnel file during a heated meeting between Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and the Weyland-Yutani head honchos, and while it's only a flash on the screen, her file clearly states that she transitioned from male to female at birth and suffered no "trauma related to gender alteration."
Who is responsible for that bit of information? Is it James Cameron himself, the writer and director of the film, who is known for his stringent attention to detail? Maybe. It could also have been the art director or anybody in that department who was tasked with making the graphic displayed in this scene.

It's all too easy to miss your big chance in Hollywood, whether it's by ending up in a flop through no fault of your own or missing the wrong phone call. It's a career tragedy that can happen to anyone, and it creates agonizing memories for stars still at the top of their careers. Just ask Bill Murphy about the time he did pick up his phone and wound up with a gig in "Garfield." That involved a mix-up over last names but it goes to show that anything can happen. To anyone.
The good news? Not every movie madness mixup ends in disaster. One star's missed call might be another's golden hour. A tragedy behind the scenes can create an opportunity for a fresh and far better take on a character. A daft but undeniably amusing stick in the eye that dares to imagine what Pier Paolo Pasolini’s “Teorema” might have been like as a piece of Abercrombie & Fitch spon-con from 2003 (a magical time when shirtless hunks stood outside of history’s most pungent mall stores like bouncers to a world of elite white belonging), Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn” is a movie sustained by the friction between identity and reinvention, and therefore a fitting second feature by a filmmaker whose Oscar-winning debut made it hard to tell if she was an underachieving dramatist or an overachieving provocateur.
If nothing else, the even more self-assured “Saltburn” puts that question to bed for the time being. Another smirking and vaguely satirical psycho-thriller that wants to have its cake,...

Video games can break your heart. It is a business built on creativity, scheduling, manpower, collaboration, and customer demand. Not everything works out. A company can have a brilliant concept and all the talent, but due to a few bad decisions or lack of funds, it could come out as a husk of what it was meant to be.
At least those failed games get to hit the shelf, though. Some dreams lead to dead ends. Amazing game designs never see the light of day for one reason or another. Maybe you have an interesting idea for a Mario spinoff that Nintendo shoots down. Maybe you put work into a game based on a popular movie that the higher-ups decide is not economically viable. Maybe your violent fighting game is nixed because the people you work for are bought out by another company who do not agree with your vision.

Welcome to this week’s review of Nxt, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down in this episode…
Match #1: Mustafa Ali def. Axiom The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Mustafa Ali sent a message to the Nxt locker room with a decisive victory over the high-flying Axiom to kick-off Nxt. Scrypts appeared at ringside during the match alongside Bronco Nima and Lucien Price, but swiftly left after attempting to intimidate Scrypts former partner. Both Superstars were perched on the top rope and seemingly instinctively, Ali grabbed Axiom’s mask and nearly ripped it off, allowing him time to shove Axiom off the top rope and hit the 450 Splash for the win
My Score: 3 out of 5 Match #2: Blair Davenport def. Kelani Jordan The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Despite the fight shown by Kelani Jordan, Blair Davenport got back...
