We lost a good many Avengers in the great battle against Thanos – Captain America, Black Widow, Vision – but perhaps the one that still gets fans really emotional is the death of Robert Downey Jr.’s ‘Iron Man.’ Happily, after 15 years of playing Tony Stark / Iron Man in three movies and across the Marvel
Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr. is still interested in reprising his role. He also doesn’t want you to bet against Kevin Feige when it comes to his character’s grand return to the world of the living. If they can bring Gomora back, sure they can do the same for our Iron Man.
Robert Downey Jr. – Is “Surprisingly Open-minded” To Reprising His Iron Man Role
I don’t think fans will ever forget that Iron Man died just days before his wedding to Pepper Potts – his assistant, who later became love of his life.

Well, for fellow Marvel aficionados and movie buffs, let’s delve into a little-known snippet of Iron Man lore—the curious case of Robert Downey Jr. mimicking Tom Cruise in a scrapped romantic scene from Iron Man 2 that we, the fans, will never forgive Marvel for omitting.
Yes, there was a sequence loaded with Tony Stark’s (Downey Jr.) trademark sarcasm, the ever-tenacious Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), & a heartfelt homage to an iconic moment from Cruise’s Jerry Maguire that didn’t see the light of the final cut. Did you know this deleted opener for Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2 could’ve shown an uncharacteristically vulnerable side of Tony Stark?

It’s not news that Robert Downey Jr.’s iconic character Tony Stark is widely considered one of the most powerful and, well, egoistic characters in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While his extraordinary smarts are what set him apart from every other superhero, the lifestyle he leads and the personality he sports — especially at the beginning of his tenure — further contributed to it.

However, while he manages to turn into a softie in the later events of his story arc in the Cinematic Universe, especially around Peter Parker aka Spider-Man, he does set his ego aside for one other Marvel character as well.
In fact, not only this but on closer observation, one would realize that he actually even breaks his rule for this very character too: Howard Stark, i.e. Tony’s dad.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man has been one of the most important characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor witnessed the birth of the MCU with the first movie in his solo franchise Iron Man in 2008. However, the character almost died in the first Avengers movie for his heroic bravery.

Iron Man is also one of the most vibrant characters in the MCU, and Downey’s portrayal of the character is irreplaceable. Still, the journey of the character would have ended much before Avengers: Endgame where Tony Stark ultimately sacrificed himself to save the universe from Thanos.

You probably know that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) was the big bad of 2012's "The Avengers" and his role there is why he's still the defining villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not even Thanos can say he got his own TV series like Loki did! It's not just the God of Mischief being in the right place at the right time, though.
"Avengers" writer/director Joss Whedon overhauled Loki, turning the meek sad boy from 2011's "Thor" into a wickedly charismatic megalomaniac. Hiddleston took that change and ran with it, proving he can wield an evil grin as effectively as he can puppy dog eyes along the way. Every subsequent Loki appearance has been trying to meld the two characterizations; Loki's an evil bastard, but he does love his mum and big brother Thor (even if he loves himself a bit more).
Loki (really Hiddleston) holds the screen all on his own in "The Avengers.

2012’s The Avengers is widely regarded as one of the best movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, perfect just the way it is. But little do fans know that the film wasn’t always supposed to unfold the way it did. In fact, this version only reached fans because of Robert Downey Jr., their favorite Oscar winner and former Tony Stark portrayer.
The Avengers (2012).
As it turns out, the original version that filmmaker Joss Whedon had planned for the movie wasn’t meant to include any of the supporting characters from the previous movies in this film at all, which included Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts as well. But then Downey Jr. stepped into the picture and went against Whedon’s decision, just to include his character’s love interest in it, too.

The scars given by Avengers: Endgame will not heal for a long time to come. Not only did we lose Black Widow and Iron Man to the ultimate sacrifice, but things went downhill for the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon after. Regardless, the film is one of the finest to exist in the superhero universe and its ending is going to stay with the fans forever.
Black Widow’s sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame
However, there was a slight chance that Avengers: Endgame would have been even more devastating than it was. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige had initially pitched to kill off all the original Avengers and not just Black Widow and Iron Man. Luckily, the Russo Brothers were right there to intervene and were able to put a stop to this just in time.

Robert Downey Jr. would "happily" play Iron Man again. The 58-year-old actor portrayed Tony Stark and his superhero alter ego in 11 movies from 2008's 'Iron Man' to 2019's 'Avengers: Endgame' and although his beloved character was killed off in the later movie, the Oscar-winning star insisted that doesn't have to mean fans have seen the last of him.He explained to Esquire magazine in a new interview: “It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”Elsewhere in the interview, his co-star Gwyneth Paltrow - who played Tony's assistant and wife Pepper Potts - revealed she gave up learning her lines for the films because of Downey's insistence on "throwing out" his scripts and improvising new dialogue at the last minute.

Robert Downey Jr. may have recently won his first Oscar for Oppenheimer, but he’s not looking to run from his Marvel past.
In fact, the actor says he’d “happily” return as Tony Stark/Iron Man.
“It’s too integral a part of my DNA,” Downey told Esquire in a new interview. “That role chose me. And look, I always say, never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”
Downey’s Iron Man met his fate in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame in what was arguably the most emotionally devastating moment in the 33-film Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marvel Comics also always played fast and loose with character deaths, regularly killing off heroes and villains for effect, only to quickly bring them back, Marvel Studios boss Feige has previously said he’s rather protective of the moment Iron Man sacrificed himself to defeat Thanos.

Robert Downey Jr. is not closing the door on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which he kicked off in 2008 with “Iron Man” and headlined for 11 years through 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.” Iron Man met his demise in that tentpole, but that has never stopped rumors from circulating that Marvel is trying to bring Downey back into the fold, especially now that the MCU has hit a box office rough patch with 2023 flops such as “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “The Marvels.” Certainly, Downey’s return as Iron Man could restore Marvel to its blockbuster glory days.
Speaking to Esquire magazine after his Oscar win for “Oppenheimer” last month, Downey was asked if he would ever return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that he is officially an Academy Award winner. The actor didn’t hesitate to answer yes.
“Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA,” Downey said. “That role chose me.

Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow shared a fantastic bond both on and off the screen. They will always remain Iron Man and Pepper Potts for the fans. But Paltrow had an interesting reaction to Rdj’s misery. Keep scrolling for more.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe, aka MCU, started with Gwyneth and Rdj starring Iron Man in 2008. In The Avengers, Rdj persuaded the makers to add Paltro’s character Pepper in the movie to show a different side of Tony Stark, as Potts played a significant role in his character development in the film. For a few years now, there’s been a noticeable decline in the quality of superhero movies, evident in both critical reception and box office performance. By 2023, superhero fatigue had reached its peak. Two out of three Marvel Studios releases had failed to impress, with ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ barely breaking even and ‘The Marvels’ becoming the lowest-grossing MCU movie to date.
The Dceu didn’t fare any better. The year kicked off with ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods,’ which flopped critically and financially, followed by ‘The Flash.’ However, expectations for ‘The Flash’ weren’t high, especially considering controversies surrounding its lead actor. ‘Blue Beetle’ also failed to make an impact despite its wholesome family story. Surprisingly, the year ended on a somewhat positive note with ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom,’ which managed to be a relative success, earning $434.38 million at the box office.

Superhero movie backlash seems to be at a new height, the pendulum having swung after the likes of Marvel hit their peak with films like Avengers: Endgame (we’re still waiting on that DC masterpiece…). But it’s more than just the so-called “superhero fatigue”; it’s that audiences fully notice that quality certainly doesn’t equate to quantity. Now, Gwyneth Paltrow – who played Pepper Potts in 2008’s Iron Man, which jump started the whole superhero craze – has some thoughts on the matter.
Appearing on Hot Ones (via Deadline), Paltrow stated, “If I look at the industry as a whole, this big push into superhero movies…you can only make so many good ones that feel truly original, and yet they’re still always trying to reach as many people as possible, which sometimes hinders quality or specificity or real point of view.” Paul Dano, who dabbled in the superhero game for DC,...

Appearing on First We Feast’s Hot Ones, hosted by Sean Evans, she was asked about director Cord Jefferson’s recent Oscar speech.
Jefferson won the Best Adapted Screenplay award for American Fiction, and used the platform to beg Hollywood for budget sanity. “Instead of making one $200 million movie, try making 20 $10 million movies,” he said in his acceptance speech.
Paltrow starred as Pepper Potts in the Iron Man films, as well as in other MCU films including Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Endgame.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Jane Austen adaptation “Emma” wasn’t a snooze at the box office, but a certain politician couldn’t help but nod off during its screening.
According to Paltrow, President Bill Clinton was sound asleep at the premiere — emphasis on the sound part.
“He was snoring right in front of me,” Paltrow said during an appearance on First We Feast’s “Hot Ones” series. “I was like, ‘Wow, I guess this is going to be a real hit movie.’ But it was, so fuck you Bill Clinton.”
This was 1996, when Clinton was still the president of the United States. (Our 42nd Potus held the post from 1993-2001.)

Robert Downey Jr Once Opened Up About The Dangers Of Filming Iron Man (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Like any other superhero film or action movie, Robert Downey Jr had several stunts while doing the Marvel movies as Iron Man. There is a lot of CGI in such movies, but sometimes filmmakers like to use real explosions. For example, Christopher Nolan did not use any VFX to create the atomic bomb explosion in Oppenheimer. Similarly, some of the explosions in Rdj’s first MCU movie, Iron Man, were not all fake, and they scared the hell out of Downey.
The actor once recalled his experience filming the 2008 movie and compared it to walking on a minefield. Jon Favreau directed it. Actor Jeff Bridges was the main villain, Iron Monger in it. It has one of the iconic scenes of the MCU, the cave explosion scene where Tony walks out of his kidnapper...

Although she may not remember, Gwyneth Paltrow appeared as Pepper Potts in Joss Whedon's 2012 film "The Avengers," a massive blockbuster that teamed up characters from five previous superhero movies into an ultra-powerful freelance military force. It was the third time Paltrow was in the film series, having appeared in "Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2" previously. In Jon Favreau's first "Iron Man," Pepper Potts and the title hero, played by Robert Downey, Jr., had a tempestuous professional relationship. Pepper capably and resentfully served as Tony Stark's personal assistant and as the chief wrangler of all his businesses. He, meanwhile, felt free to be an a-hole "genius maverick" who loved giving interviews in between bouts of drinking and hooking up.
Over the course of the "Iron Man" movies, Pepper and Iron Man grew closer and closer, revealing personal details about themselves and admitting a long-held attraction. It also...

In Jon Favreau's 2008 film "Iron Man," the playboy weapons industrialist Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) has an ethical crisis about his line of work following a traumatic kidnapping incident. Tony was held hostage in a cave by a rogue terrorist (Faran Tahir) who was using the weapons his company produced to spread chaos and death in the Middle East. With the help of a fellow kidnapping victim, a doctor named Ho Yinsen (Shaun Toub), Tony builds a high-tech, weaponized suit of armor to escape his cave. Sadly, Yinsen is killed in the process. Tony returns to the United States broken and sad, and soon announces that his company will no longer be making weapons.
No one is more startled by Tony's change of heart than his long-suffering personal assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). For years, Pepper took care of Tony's business, but also his messy personal life; early in the film,...

Jon Favreau‘s 2008 film “Iron Man” is usually referred to as the blockbuster that first kicked off Hollywood’s superhero movie craze. But according to Pepper Potts herself, Gwyneth Paltrow, “Iron Man” wasn’t pitched to her as a sure-fire success. In fact, she says Marvel Studios pitched “Iron Man” to her as an “indie film,” which sounds ridiculous, considering the movie made over half a billion dollars at the box office.

“A lot of Goop,” one of the attendees remarked on leaving Gwyneth Paltrow’s In Conversation talk taking place at the Red Sea Film Festival. “A bit lopsided,” another agreed. Many of the gathered gripped Marvel posters and wore Marvel T-shirts, but everyone was happy to welcome an actor whose career has spanned films as diverse as “Se7en,” “The Royal Tenenbaums” and “Shakespeare in Love,” and the biggest applause came when she said that this was her first time in Saudi Arabia.
The first female CEO of the Saudi Research and Media Group Jomana al-Rashid acted as moderator and began the talk with a survey of Paltrow’s acting career and her first inspiration: “My mother is an actress. She did mostly theater. And so I grew up as a little girl watching her rehearse plays and running around the theater. My mother would even say she always felt a bit insecure.

5 Times Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark Was Not A Self-Centered Snob Like Others Perceive Him (Picture Credit: Facebook & IMDb)
Robert Downey Jr has ruled our hearts with his fantastic portrayal of Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tony’s character was described beautifully by the man himself in The Avengers in 2012. He is a genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist, but Captain America Steve Rogers’s response to this called him selfish. Not just in this movie time and again, Tony has been perceived as a self-centered and narcissistic human being. But is that all?
Tony turned out to be one of the most loved MCU characters, mainly because of Rdj. The MCU started its journey with Iron Man in 2008, and since the first film, he has proved that Tony is not just an egomaniacal; he has a heart, too. While we ran a story earlier about Jack Nicholson bowing out of acting after the last thirteen years, Gwyneth Paltrow has recently taken her desired break from the profession. Previously, Paltrow was seen reprising her Pepper Potts character from the Iron Man movies in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. She, then, could be seen in the Netflix series The Politician, which had its second season premiere in 2020. However, the actress has since turned her focus towards her company, Goop, and has not considered looking for or taking any new roles.
According to Variety, Paltrow is fully committed to her time at her business, but if one person called her up to take part in a movie, she would possibly step back in the game. And that person is Robert Downey Jr. Paltrow recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight in a new interview where she stated, “Well, it would be very hard for me...

Outside of recent voice roles on “American Horror Stories” and “She Said,” Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow has not acted on camera in a few years. Her last film was in 2019 courtesy of “Avengers: Endgame,” in which she reprised her fan favorite Marvel role of Pepper Potts, while she also appeared in the Netflix series “The Politician,” which dropped its second season in June 2020.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Paltrow suggested that she currently has no plans to get back in front of the camera as an actor given all of her business responsibilities with Goop. However, there is one A-list actor she thinks could end her current acting hiatus. That would be Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr.
“Well, it would be very hard for me to do any acting right at the moment, just because of my job,” Paltrow said. “But, I guess Robert Downey Jr. could probably always get me back.
