For its landmark 20th season, “Hell’s Kitchen” is traveling back to Las Vegas, but this time around there’s an even bigger twist. All of the contestants are aspiring, up-and-coming chefs who are younger than age 24, which explains why host Gordon Ramsay affectionately calls them “Young Guns.” These 18 all-new chef-testants competed in Sin City prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, with Christina Wilson and Jason “Jay” Santos returning as sous-chefs for the Red Team and Blue Team, respectively. At stake for the winner? A head chef position at Ramsay’s steakhouse at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas. So how’d it all play out in Monday’s season 20 premiere?

For its landmark 20th season, “Hell’s Kitchen” produced a special installment centered around young, up-and-coming chefs. Titled “Hell’s Kitchen: Young Guns,” this season filmed in 2019 prior to the Covid-19 pandemic and features 18 aspiring chefs who are all 24 years old or younger. Just like the recent 19th season, this cycle filmed in Las Vegas, Nevada instead of the normal Hollywood location.
Ahead of its May 31, 2021 premiere date, Fox has revealed the 18 all-new cast members for this Sin City season. As usual, they’ll be divided into two groups: Red Team (girls) and Blue Team (boys). All of the power belongs to host Gordon Ramsay, who will eliminate one chef-testant each week until only one remains as the winner. The final four contestants of “Hell’s Kitchen” Season 19 had little time to celebrate their standings as they were woken up in the wee hours of the morning by Gordon Ramsay for their next challenge. On this week’s episode of “Hell’s Kitchen,” Gordon Ramsay gave out the coveted black jackets to the aspiring chefs he thought deserved to be in the Final 5 of Season 19. Mary Lou Davis and Declan Horgan received the first two thanks to their success in the “taste it now make it” challenge. Cody Candelario and Kori Sutton then earned their tickets to the black jacket lounge when they prevailed in the “briefcase ingredients” challenge. That left only Amber Lancaster and Nicole “Nikki” Hanna still in the kitchen to cook a dish resembling their childhood, with Chef Ramsay ultimately giving the final jacket to Amber. Did the host make the right decision, or did he eliminate the wrong person? Vote in our poll below.

“Leaving here like this sucks,” declared Jordan Savell after being eliminated on the 11th episode of “Hell’s Kitchen” Season 19. Not believing Jordan was the true leader he was looking for, Gordon Ramsay took her jacket after a charity dinner service in which she almost served raw steak. “I just wasn’t ready to go,” said the 29-year-old executive chef from Texas during her tearful exit interview. “I gave it everything I have and I gotta make peace with that. Like Chef said, I’m a soldier. Maybe one day I’ll be a general.”

One of the most popular “Hell’s Kitchen” challenges ever, the blind taste test, has finally arrived in Season 19. In this week’s episode, the nine remaining chef-testants wore blindfolds and tried to identify mystery ingredients presented to them by Chef Gordon Ramsay. The twist: if a person missed two ingredients, ice cream would be dumped onto one of their teammates. The winning team was rewarded with a helicopter ride around the Grand Canyon and a hotel stay at Caesar Palace’s private villa. The losers were punished and had to prepare countless steaks for dinner service. At the end of the night, which contestant ended up having to turn in their jacket?

In the eighth episode of “Hell’s Kitchen” Season 19, the 10 remaining chef-testants faced off in a craps-inspired challenge in which they had to create dishes based on ingredients that started with the letters they rolled on the die. The winning team got to experience a high-wire act at Caesars Palace and a fancy lunch at Nobu. The losers were punished and had to prepare beef wellingtons and mushrooms. Later, in a shocking twist, Chef Gordon Ramsay canceled the night’s dinner service before it began and instead initiated a cook-for-your-life challenge. So how’d it all pay out?

“Sy’s winning personality and determination were enough to take her far, but a lack of experience made me say sayonara,” host Gordon Ramsay proclaimed at the end of the seventh episode of “Hell’s Kitchen.” He was referring to Syann Williams, the 26-year-old line cook from Atlanta who stole America’s heart during this Las Vegas-themed installment. Sy started out the season strong, winning the Punishment Pass reward in the second episode for her shrimp and grits dish. However, she wasn’t able to keep up that momentum and ended up being the eighth person eliminated.

Birthday boy Josh Oakley had nothing to celebrate during the sixth episode of “Hell’s Kitchen,” as he was eliminated in 12th place by host Gordon Ramsay. “I’ve never failed before in my life, so today does hurt,” said the Denver, Colorado native in his exit interview. “I’m disappointed in myself because Chef Ramsay tried to pull something out of me and I just didn’t have it. This sucks ’cause out of all days it is my 29th birthday and I’ll be spending it alone.” Will you miss Josh on “Hell’s Kitchen”? Sound off down in the comments section.
Josh had a rough final dinner service, as he repeatedly failed at the garnish station and didn’t communicate with his teammates. At one point he even served bland mashed potatoes, which he readily admitted he failed to taste beforehand.

Usually on “Hell’s Kitchen,” host Gordon Ramsay decides who goes and who stays. But during the fifth episode of Season 19, one aspiring chef made the decision easy for him. Citing “mental pain and negativity,” Peter Martinez threw in the towel during dinner service and voluntarily quit Fox’s long-running reality TV show. That makes him the sixth person to leave this Las Vegas edition, following Kenneth McDuffie, Eliott Sanchez, Fabiola Fuentes, Drew Tingley and Brittani Ratcliff.
“If this is what it takes to be an executive chef, then the facts are there: I am not ready,” Peter explained after he exited the restaurant. “I don’t believe that every executive chef that’s established in the world has gone through all this mental pain and negativity. No amount of money is worth that stress.” Fighting back tears, the New Jersey sous chef concluded, “I just need to get back home.

The fifth episode of “Hell’s Kitchen” Season 19 tasked the 13 remaining chef-testants with creating elevated spins on Mexican classics: tacos, tostadas, enchiladas and chile relleno. Chef Gordon Ramsay‘s old friend Aaron Sanchez (“MasterChef”) served as the week’s special guest judge. Later on during dinner service, one contestant became so overwhelmed with the competition that they voluntarily quit the show, claiming they didn’t have what it took to be Ramsay’s executive chef in Lake Tahoe. So how did it all play out on Thursday night?

“I was hoping to bring a little bit more to the table and I fell short — it’s heartbreaking,” revealed Brittani Ratcliff after being eliminated by Chef Gordon Ramsay on “Hell’s Kitchen.” During her exit interview at the end of the fourth episode, the 30-year-old executive sous chef added, “The whole experience I’m gonna take back with me. You learn more from failing than you do from winning. If I can get some fresh fish in Kentucky then I’m gonna practice it every day. My family’s gonna be tired of eating fish.”

Thursday night on “Hell’s Kitchen,” the show featured its first medical situation of the season in only the third episode — is that a new record? One contestant couldn’t survive the drama of the competition and required a paramedic’s assistance, while their teammates waited to see if they’d make it to dinner service. Once again all the power belongs to host Gordon Ramsay, who will eliminate one person every week until only one remains as the winner of the head chef position at his new restaurant in Lake Tahoe. So who was the first person eliminated from “Hell’s Kitchen: Las Vegas”?
