Stranger Things’ rabid internet fandom leads to some fascinating places. People connect different parts of the series in novel ways, often leading to intense discourse about storylines and characters that some choose to forget. But one Stranger Things character from season 1 has had an uncommon staying power in the fandom. A quick look at the show’s Reddit board or trending hashtags on social media will lead to the more-than-periodic mention of Nancy Wheeler’s (Natalia Dyer) first-season best friend, Barbara “Barb” Holland (Shannon Purser).
The reserved teenage girl who became one of the Upside Down’s first victims in Hawkins symbolized the Netflix series’ habit of crafting interesting, likable guest characters only for them to be erased within a few episodes – Bob Newby (Sean Astin) from season 2 and Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) from season 4 being the other prominent examples. Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions today released the first look trailer for the world premiere West End production of Stranger Things: The First Shadow, taking the moment to also announce an extension into 2025 of the production’s London run.
This past March, casting notices for a Broadway production suggested a New York run for Stranger Things: The First Shadow is in the works.
In the new trailer, the telekinetic Creel (played on the West End by Louis McCartney) is depicted in a sort of prequel to the events of the Netflix TV series. Specifically, a terrified Creel is just beginning to suspect his gifts, and seems none too thrilled. “I’m Henry Creel. I’m normal. It’s not real. I’m normal. It’s not real. I’m normal. It’s not real. I’m normal. It’s not real. I’m Henry Creel.”

Stranger Things: The First Shadow, the U.K. stage play based on the hit Netflix series, has dropped another trailer looking at the drama’s biggest villain, Henry Creel.
“It’s not real. I’m normal,” an anguished Creel, the telekinetic boy played by Louis McCartney, repeatedly declares in the latest teaser for the stage play. Directed by Stephen Daldry and co-director Justin Martin, the play has been extended to 2025 in London’s West End, as reports point to a possible transfer and premiere on Broadway next year.
The 1959-set prequel centers around younger versions of characters in the Netflix Stranger Things series characters, including Patty Newby (Ella Karuna Williams), Joyce Maldonado ( Isabella Pappas), Jim Hopper Jr. (Oscar Lloyd) and Bob Newby (Christopher Buckley).

Joe Keery got a key, early endorsement from Taylor Swift for his hit song, “End of Beginning.”
During an appearance on The Spout Podcast, the actor-musician shared an anecdote from the day he and Swift were both spotted at the Electric Lady recording studio in New York City. The Tortured Poets Department singer-songwriter told the Stranger Things star she “really liked the track.”
“I just happened to be there the day that she was there. And she’s really nice. I mean, I’ve met her a couple of times. Before anything happened with this track, she said, ‘Hey, I really love that track of yours, ‘End Of Beginning,’” Keery said on the podcast. “She just said that she had heard the song and, you know, obviously I’m like, ‘What? The last Stranger Things season dropped almost two years ago with many things changing for the Hawkins crew. The show’s fourth season had multiple storylines, including the demon Vecna which became a pop cultural phenomenon. With shooting delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, filming for season 5 began in January.
Ross Duffer, who is one-half of the creators The Duffer Brothers, shared more behind-the-scenes images of the production. The current batch of images has many allusions to Jonathan and Nancy. One image, in particular, seems to be haunting as Jonathan and Nancy look back at something sinister from Steve Harrington’s car.

From Apm Studios and award-winning journalist Lee Hawkins, What Happened in Alabama? is a new limited series podcast about the intergenerational ripple effect of Jim Crow segregation on Lee’s family, dating back to the 1600s.
The 10-part series premieres on Wednesday, May 15. Listeners can subscribe now and listen to the trailer on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and all podcast platforms.
Remarked Hawkins: “I was a small kid when I started hearing my father’s frequent nightmares in the middle of the night. When I mustered the courage to ask him what he was dreaming about, ‘Alabama, son. Alabama,’ was his only answer. This podcast and my forthcoming book are the result of several years of my work – with my dad’s help – to investigate 400 years of family history, to finally uncover the answer. Sarah Paulson is recalling an “outrageous” interaction she had with a fellow actor who watched her performance in a play.
During a Monday appearance on the Smartless podcast, with hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, the American Horror Story star was asked if she would accept feedback from celebrities who come backstage to meet the cast after a theater show.
“I did do a play once. The last time I was on stage, I did a play called Talley’s Folly at the Roundabout, and the actress — and I’m going to say this, and I’m not going to ask you to cut this out, because I don’t fucking care — this actress came to the play. Her name is Trish Hawkins. ‘Hi, Trish! Hi, Trisha!’” Paulson said. “Trish Hawkins came to the play … am I going to get sued? I don’t care, because I think this is outrageous.

This article contains spoilers through Stranger Things season 4 and The Walking Dead.
To kill or not to kill? This is the question so many shows with large ensemble casts wrestle with as the tensions rise and the stakes become fatal deeper into the series. The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones took great pleasure in cutting down leading players like blades of grass in the springtime sun. It kept viewers on their toes, but it also hindered the strength of the respective casts. When too many fan favorites are whacked, it tests the loyalty of the people watching at home and the skills of the writers and directors to form a coherent story with the crumbs that remain.
Stranger Things weighs in on the other end of the spectrum. The Duffer Brothers have kept essentially every cherished character locked into the show from the debut season to the most recent one.

An uncanny understanding of character dynamics and superior cast chemistry have made Stranger Things the defining science fiction drama of the last decade. Although fans love the special effects and evil enemies omnipresent in the series, showrunners the Duffer brothers have always grounded the story in character development. Mike’s (Finn Wolfhard) and Will’s (Noah Schnapp) potential romance, Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) backstory as a lab rat, and Hopper’s quest for fatherhood have all amalgamated into an irresistible mix of plotting that feels novelistic and addicting for viewers.

Animal Planet’s classic hit Meerkat Manor is getting the animated treatment from Warner Bros. Pictures Animation.
In early development, the feature will be produced by Seth Green and Tracy Falco via the duo’s The Green Room production banner, the studio announced Tuesday.
The original producer of the show, Caroline Hawkins and Clare Birks of Oxford Scientific, will executive produce.
Airing on Warners-owned Animal Planet from 2005 to 2008, the show centered on the exploits of a family of meerkats dubbed The Whiskers living in South Africa’s Kalahari Desert. The show became a worldwide hit, garnering Emmy nominations and at one point was Animal Planet’s most watched show.
Warners plans to produce the feature using photoreal animation, in what it dubbed “in the spirit of Happy Feet,” the 2006 animated feature co-directed by George Miller that centered on penguins.

The Phantom of the Opera is sometimes considered one of the Universal Monsters. I get it. From the 1925 version that gave us one of the most infamous unmasking sequences ever courtesy of the great Lon Chaney Sr., through the Hammer iteration with Herbert Lom, all the way up to the 2004 film that gave a lot of us our intro to Gerard Butler. Speaking of that movie, its inspiration and reason for its existence was the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical that premiered in October of 1986 and has had runs all the way through as recently as 2021. 1989 was the beginning of its U.S. tour and we got not one but Two Phantom movies that year. He also rocked out on his electric guitar in his band, Corroded Coffin, and was pals with Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair, and Mike Wheeler. Sadly, Eddie sacrificed himself, but there’s a chance he might come back somehow.
Fans are eagerly speculating about Quinn’s potential return in the final season of Stranger Things, as the actor himself remains tight-lipped about it. But looks like there’s a deeper meaning behind why he is keeping mum.

Netflix hit a jackpot with Stranger Things. Since the first season dropped on the streaming platform in 2016, the craze for the show has only increased in the subsequent years. Due to its popularity, fans are always on the lookout for little clues that might give any hint about the future of the show.
The fourth season of the show was a massive success. It was also one of the most satisfying since it provided a lot of answers to questions that had been stacked up in the previous seasons. Several theories have been floating around with the show racing towards its finish. However, there is one time travel theory, that will make history if it ends up being true.
Why does time travel seem probable on Stranger Things?

“I assisted Avigail and Damian Collins — they were styling all the coolest music acts, including Rihanna, as part of Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn’s team,” says the U.K. stylist, who crossed over from the pop world to Hollywood. Croysdill is gearing up for Bridgerton season three with Nicola Coughlan, whose character, Penelope Featherington, will be the focus. The stylist will simultaneously be working on premieres for the Back to Black Amy Winehouse biopic with lead star Marisa Abela. “Of course, we’ll have some subtle nods to Amy. “So You Think You Can Dance” season 18 ended the first stage of the competition on Monday night, March 18, with the last dance hopefuls looking for a spot in the choreography round. So far the bar has been set pretty high by standout performances from dancers representing a variety of dance styles, shapes, sizes and ability levels. So who stood out among the last crop of contestants? Did the show save the best for last?
“We’ve put 25 people through,” said judge Allison Holker at the start of the show. She singled out contemporary dancer Braylon Browner and gymnast Dakayla Wilson as standouts from the first two days of auditions. Comfort Fedoke agreed that Wilson is capable of anything a professional choreographer could throw at her. Maksim Chmerkovskiy was especially impressed by contemporary dancer Easton Magliarditi. But “there’s so many other things outside of dance that we’re also looking at.

After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things finally went into production at the start of the year and is now three months into its twelve month shooting schedule… but in the midst of filming, Finn Wolfhard is also doing the press rounds to promote the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, which is set to reach theatres on March 22nd. An interview with The Hollywood Reporter was part of his press tour, and during that conversation, Wolfhard was asked about the ongoing production of Stranger Things season 5, which will also be the final season of the show. Since this is how it wraps up, it seems fitting that Wolfhard said it will be a return of the dynamics of the first season.

Finn Wolfhard’s second collaboration with Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, hits theaters in less than ten days, but the young actor has already reunited with the writing duo for a third time on the set of their highly anticipated drama, SNL 1975. If that wasn’t enough, the Canadian performer is also hard at work on Stranger Things 5, the final season of Netflix’s most beloved series to date.
After the tragic death of Ghostbusters co-creator Ivan Reitman in February 2022, Jason Reitman eventually relinquished Frozen Empire’s directorial duties to his writing partner on these two most recent Ghostbusters films, Kenan. After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things finally went into production at the start of the year – and it’s going to continue making its way through production for quite a while longer, as new cast member Linda Hamilton has said that filming is going to take an entire year. So we’re not going to see this season, which is the final season of the show, until sometime in 2025… and star Millie Bobby Brown is looking forward to the premiere date with excitement, because she says the final episodes are going to be “unbelievable.”
Speaking with Screen Rant, Brown said, “There’s not much I can tease, but I know everybody’s super excited. I just think if you’ve loved the seasons before, you trust the Duffers. They’re geniuses, and they’ll bring it like no other.

A Broadway transfer may be in store for the stage production of Stranger Things: The First Shadow.
A casting notice calling for video submissions from Equity actors has been posted for the production, with a listed Broadway start in 2025. A theater has not yet been named. Stephen Daldry, who helmed the West End production of the show, is listed as director for the possible Broadway transfer, with Justin Martin as a co-director.
Neither Netflix nor Sonia Friedman Productions, the two producers on the show, immediately responded to a request for comment on plans for Broadway. A spokesperson for the production in London said more information about the “future life of the production” will be shared at a later time. The audition notice alone does not automatically mean it’s coming to Broadway, but the play is already proving popular in the West End.

Royal author Rachel Hawkins, a fiction writer who penned several royal-themed books, spoke out on social media about Kate Middleton’s disappearance on March 5. Those tweets share her point of view regarding the subject.
The author was concerned for Kate’s health. Hawkins claimed she did “not want to speculate about a woman’s health online.”
But she claims that after spending “years eyeball deep in weird royal research for the Royals books, everything that is happening with Kate M is very, very weird. Unprecedented, even.”

Danielle Brooks knows The Color Purple’s Sofia inside out. She spent a year as the boisterous wife in the Broadway revival in 2015, and boasts that she knows everything from the character’s Zodiac sign to the color socks she wore. A decade before her fiery onstage performance, a 15-year-old Brooks admired Felicia P. Fields as Sofia in its initial run on Broadway, whose defiant demeanor made her vulnerable to racial violence. Despite her lifelong ties to the role, she still had to prove herself for the big budget movie musical.

Corey Hawkins is following his acclaimed performance in “The Color Purple” with another prominent role that should further elevate his rapidly rising profile. He’s set to star alongside Willem Dafoe in “The Man in My Basement,” taking over a role vacated by Jonathan Majors.
The film, which hails from first time director Nadia Latif, is an adaptation of Walter Mosley’s 2004 novel of the same name. Speaking to IndieWire on the SAG Awards red carpet, Hawkins talked replacing Majors at the last minute and the rich artistic experience that the film provided.

Linda Hamilton may be joining the Hawkins, Indiana, crew for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, but she won’t be watching it along with the rest of the show’s fans.
In an interview with Us Weekly! while promoting Resident Alien, the actress shared that she has always been a massive fan of the show, but now that she’s in it, it won’t be the same for her.
“I’ve watched every season with relish. I just love it,” she told the publication. “So it’s kind of, like, imposter syndrome where I don’t [feel that I] fit in there. That’s a whole world set in the ’80s.”

When it was announced that Linda Hamilton would be joining Stranger Things for its fifth and final season, it felt like a perfect addition to the cast, as she was a favorite presence in the 1980s, when the series is set. She, too, is a fan of the Netflix show…and that’s precisely why she won’t watch the season she’ll be featured in.
Speaking with Us Weekly, Linda Hamilton said that being cast in Stranger Things will interfere with her appreciation of the show, adding that she won’t be able to finish it like the rest of its fans. “When you really buy into something, you don’t see yourself in it. So I think in a way, it kind of ruined the show for me. I never watch [a project], once I’m in something…It would just completely take me out of the reality of it to see myself in there.

The biggest challenge for Officer Kevin Atwater (Laroyce Hawkins) in the next Chicago P.D. episode highlighting his character is himself. In the February 21 “Split Second,” a string of jewelry store robberies shakes his confidence. “I think he’s most challenged just by really trying to get out of his own way. Atwater has a tendency to want to take full accountability for everything. Whether it’s his private endeavors with his building, his family, his team, he has a knack for just wanting to take it all,” Hawkins tells TV Insider. “And I think this episode, he struggles with that. So the challenge would be Atwater getting out of his own way and allowing himself the grace to be able to grow and let go.” The good news: He has Intelligence to back him up. “He is going to be leaning on everybody, and you’ll see pops where...

If you even glanced at social media in the days leading up to the release of Volume 2 of Stranger Things Season 4, one thing was blatantly clear: Fans were terrified that one or more of their beloved characters were going to bite the dust — particularly, Eddie Munson.
Devastatingly, that fear was realized. In the Season 4 finale, Eddie (Joe Quinn) goes out in a moment of metal glory, battling a horde of Demobats to protect a town that vilified him for a crime he didn’t commit.
