Luke Combs came into these awards with the most nominations (eight), including Entertainer of the Year. Move over, Chris Pratt. The Lincoln Lawyer actor Manuel Garcia-Rulfo is a new leading man for Universal and Amblin’s latest Jurassic World movie. The next chapter in Universal’s dinosaur-run amock franchise already stars Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey, and Gareth Edwards is directing. Dinosaurs will rule the world again on July 2, 2025, when the film stomps into cinemas.
Edwards’s Jurassic World movie is a fresh start for the beloved franchise, with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard not expected to return. The next installment also leaves the original trilogy’s stars, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum, in the rearview. David Koepp, who wrote Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park, is penning the screenplay. Other stars rumored to be up for roles are Dev Patel (Monkey Man) and Colman Domingo (Fear the Walking Dead), though nothing is confirmed.

Mutants in the Marvel Universe have always had a very dodgy history with artificial intelligence. The first problem that they faced was mutant-hunting robots called Sentinels, which seemed to go through an upgrade every few years. Now, a cosmic entity called Dominion threatens the mutant population, one who is destined to wipe them out. However, introducing this new cosmic entity inadvertently set up the next big villain who could make their way to the MCU in the wake of Avengers: Secret Wars.
Deadpool and Wolverine
Given that the X-Men will be making their way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is safe to say that after Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel Studios will be making a lot more mutant-focused content, and while earth-bound villains like Bolivar Trask, Magneto, and William Stryker could be great villains, eventually scaling to cosmic threats like the Shi’ar Empire and Dominion could chart out a well planned cinematic universe,...

One of the major changes utilized in AppleTV+’s Foundation, as compared to Isaac Asimov’s novel series of the same name, was the introduction of the genetic Cleon dynasty. In the far future, human beings have spread throughout the cosmos and have managed to establish a galactic empire. To avoid confusion and the possibilities of family feuds and infighting resulting from a claim to the throne, the last emperor, Cleon I, decided to initiate the ultimate form of autocracy by cloning himself through generations and forever being the only one to rule over trillions in succession.
To employ the concept of cloning even more brilliantly, at any given era, three clones of Cleon I at different stages of their lives were assigned as Emperors. Brother Dawn, the youngest, who learns about the intricacies of being a ruler and prepares himself for taking the reins in the future; Brother Day,...

A space opera is a delicate balancing act. In its later seasons, “The Expanse” found a way to keep each individual storyline rich and memorable while maintaining a solid overall arc in masterful fashion. With “The Expanse” concluded, “Raised by Wolves” canceled and the “Battlestar Galactica” re-reboot on ice, there are few shows left that dare to tackle science fiction on an intergalactic scale.
The Apple TV+ drama “Foundation” is well on its way to carving its own space in this niche, but still lacks the writing finesse that brought “Andor” so much critical praise last year.
Based on the iconic science fiction book series written by Isaac Asimov, “Foundation” took major creative liberties from its source material to adapt a famously unadaptable series with a massive, time-bending scale to television. Its first season received mixed reviews, and the second season more or less continues on that same trajectory.

The mystery surrounding Tucker Carlson’s ouster from the airwaves at Fox News — and his future plans in media — are coming into sharper focus.
On April 26, Carlson spoke by phone with one of Fox Corp.’s eight board members, who told the host that his recent benching was a condition of Fox News’ settlement with Dominion Voting Systems, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the conversation.
The unnamed board member told Carlson that the condition does not appear in any of the settlement’s documents, and instead was a verbal agreement. If Fox didn’t comply, the settlement was off, Carlson was told. Like a lot of people on Tuesday, Jimmy Kimmel was very disappointed that the defamation lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox News ended in a settlement. But Kimmel didn’t just call out Fox News which, all things considered got a pretty good deal. He also dinged Dominion for abandoning the high-minded justifications it insisted were behind the lawsuit.
“They took the money instead,” Kimmel declared, adding later that “[Fox] can go right back to sodomizing the country, while Dominion and their lawyers go shopping for yachts, I guess.”
For those catching up, Dominion sued Fox News for defamation because the network, as part of its larger efforts to platform Donald Trump’s lies about the 2020 election, allowed its on-air talent and many guests to spread lies that Dominion somehow helped rig the election for Joe Biden, doing tremendous damage to Dominion’s business.
And they had a very strong case.

Fox News’ $787.5 million settlement with Dominion Voting Systems does not require that the network do an on-air a retraction or apology, sources confirmed.
In talking to reporters afterward, attorneys for Dominion suggested that the whopping settlement sum and the proceedings up to this point held the network accountable for amplifying false allegations that the election software company was involved in rigging the 2020 election in Joe Biden’s favor.
“We achieved our goals. Our goals were accountability, and our goals were to make right by our client,” Justin Nelson, the lead attorney for Dominion, told Deadline. “And I think we hit a home run on both of those. The media defamation case of the century has settled before the opening arguments.
Fox Corp. has settled the high-profile defamation case brought against it by Dominion Voting Systems, effectively putting an end to the suit.
Judge Eric Davis announced the resolution in court Tuesday, after the start of the trial was delayed by two hours. “The parties have resolved their case,” Davis said.
Terms of the settlement were not immediately disclosed, though Dominion had been seeking $1.6 billion from Fox in its suit. In a press conference after court was adjourned, Dominion’s lawyer said the settlement was for $787 million and that it represented “accountability.” A source familiar with the terms said they did not dictate an on-air apology.
“We are pleased to have reached a settlement of our dispute with Dominion Voting Systems,” a Fox spokesperson said Tuesday. “We acknowledge the court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false.

Newly revealed recordings of Maria Bartiromo’s conversations with Sidney Powell, Rudy Giuliani and others have left a Delaware judge again upset with Fox’s legal team.
Judge Eric M. Davis indicated Wednesday that he would appoint a special master to investigate Fox’s representations to the court, including declarations made in December over the extent of discovery materials that have been produced to Dominion Voting Systems in their $1.6 billion defamation case.
Davis said that he was “very concerned” that Fox made it seem as if it had met its discovery obligations.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament took a hiatus during the pandemic as movie theaters closed for the majority of 2020-2021 and theatrical day-and-date titles on both the big screen and studios’ respective streaming platforms became more prevalent. Coming back from that brink, the studios have largely returned to their theatrical release models and the downstream monies they can bring. Not to mention their power in launching IPs around the world with big global marketing campaigns. When it comes to evaluating the financial performance of top movies, it isn’t about what a film grosses at the box office. The true tale is told when production budgets, P&a, talent participations and other costs collide with box office grosses, and ancillary revenues from VOD to DVD and TV. To get close to that mysterious end of the equation, Deadline is repeating our Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament for 2022, using data culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Dominion’s attorneys requested in a letter to the court Wednesday that live testimony be required from Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch, as well as Fox board member and former House Speaker Paul Ryan and Fox exec Viet Dinh. Davis approved the request to compel each of them to testify, according to NBC News.

The third season of Star Trek: Picard continues to be a reunion tour for ’90s Star Trek characters. We’ve already had most of the cast from The Next Generation, and even secondary character Ro Laren shockingly appeared in episode 5, “Imposters.” We also have Worf, who technically can also represent Deep Space Nine, as well as the Changelings.
But what about Voyager? In addition to bringing Seven of Nine into the main cast, Picard finally gives Voyager its due with a cameo from Tim Russ as the Vulcan Tuvok. Remember Mr. Vulcan? He’s back! In Changeling form!
Tim Russ Returns as Captain Tuvok
While Voyager remains a divisive show among fans, most agree that Russ’ performance as Tuvok is one of the highlights. Over the seven seasons of Voyager, Tuvok established himself as the ultimate Vulcan, a devotee of his people’s emphasis on logic,...

After the easter egg bonanza of “The Bounty,” it’s time for Picard to dial it back in the callback department. But while the latest episode, “Dominion,” doesn’t have nearly as many references to the past as last week’s episode, almost all of these nods push the plot forward. Picard season 3 is entering the final phase of its massive story and “Dominion” raises the stakes in huge ways.
Here are all the best easter eggs, shout-outs, and references we found in the episode…
Chin’toka Scrapyard
The episode opens with the Titan hiding in the Chin’toka Scrapyard. This means we’re back in the Chin’toka system, which first appeared in Deep Space Nine. This system was featured in several DS9 episodes, such as “Tears of the Prophets” and “The Siege of Ar-558.” The Breen and the Dominion blew away...

Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Episode 7
Given that “The Bounty” was the easily best episode of Star Trek: Picard to date, it was probably always inevitable that whatever came after would feel like a letdown. Such is the case with “Dominion,” an hour that purports to finally offer viewers some answers about Vadic, the Changelings, and their larger plans, but where very little actually happens. This is not to say the episode is bad, per se. (And it’s certainly far from the worse episode of Picard we’ve ever seen!) There are a handful of solid subplots at work throughout—the stuff with Geordi, Data, and Lore is especially emotionally compelling—and while they don’t all come together in an entirely satisfying way, they certainly set the table for an explosive follow-up next week.

In the last episode of "Star Trek: Picard," called "The Bounty," it was finally revealed what object the malevolent Changelings had stolen from Daystrom Station, a mystery that was being investigated by Raffi (Michelle Hurd) and Worf (Michael Dorn). It seems that when Admiral Picard (Patrick Stewart) had his consciousness shunted into an android golem at the end of the show's first season, someone thought to gather up his old corpse and store it in a Federation archive. The Changelings stole Picard's dead body and plan to use it for as yet unrevealed nefarious purposes.
It was implied, however, that there was something in Picard's brain that had been assumed to be a disease. Trekkies will recall from "All Good Things...," the final episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," that Picard had been diagnosed with a rare brain ailment called Irumodic syndrome. Fox News cut ties with Abby Grossberg Friday, Variety has learned, citing disclosure of privileged corporate information, after the booker and producer for such hosts as Tucker Carlson and Maria Bartiromo alleged in court filings earlier this week that she was coerced by executives into providing misleading testimony in the $1.6 billion defamation suit that Dominion Voting Systems has levied against the Fox Corp.-backed outlet.
Grossberg, who had worked as a senior booking producer for Bartiromo and head of booking for Carlson, alleged in filings in Delaware Superior Court and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York that Fox attorneys worked to “coach, manipulate, and coerce Ms. Grossberg to deliver shaded and/or incomplete answers during her sworn deposition testimony, which answers were clearly to her reputational detriment but greatly benefitted Fox News,” according to her Delaware lawsuit.

Next month, Fox News will go to court in a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems over the cable news channel’s coverage of the 2020 election. But according to Lachlan Murdoch, co-chairman of Fox News’ parent NewsCorp, the coverage surrounding the case is political.
Murdoch briefly addressed the lawsuit during Fox’s presentation at Morgan Stanley’s 2023 Technology Media and Telecom Conference Thursday. Asked about updates to the case or what the public should know about the situation, Murdoch hedged to share details but defended the right-leaning cable giant by implying that the interest in the case has more to do with politics than concerns over the law or proper journalism.
“A news organization has an obligation, and it has an obligation to report news fulsomely, wholesomely, and without fear or favor, and that’s what Fox News has always done,” he said during his presentation. “And that...

Dominion Voting Systems and Fox offered dueling views of defamation law in their latest filings, as each side seeks a summary judgment ruling that could forestall a planned trial in April.
The case has generated huge attention in recent weeks, as Dominion’s filings have revealed a trove of text messages, emails and deposition transcripts showing that Fox figures disbelieved Donald Trump’s election fraud claims, yet did not stop network personalities and guests from amplifying allegations that votes were rigged to ensure that Joe Biden would win the election.

Someone has to handle the truth.
In the 1992 legal drama “A Few Good Men,” a senior military commander played by Jack Nicholson is asked over and over if he ordered a “code red,” or an off-the-books dictate that sent underlings scurrying to do something they probably should not have done. Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch and many of the top executives and anchors at Fox News Channel may feel like they are stuck in a reboot of that film.
In a remarkable series of depositions that have been made available from much-scrutinized litigation between voting-technology company Dominion Voting Systems and Fox Corporation, top officers at Fox and its most lucrative subsidiary, Fox News Media, are grilled over whether they have direct responsibility for stories, talent and reporting that airs on Fox News Channel or Fox Business Network. In many instances, the executives say they do not.

Fox News is citing newly found emails from Maria Bartiromo’s personal account that they intend to use in their defense of Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation lawsuit.
In one email exchange, Tony Fratto, who in November, 2020 was acting as a spokesman for Dominion, wrote to Bartiromo after watching an interview with Sidney Powell, the attorney and Fox News guest who had been one of the most visible figures pushing the conspiracy theory that the voting systems company rigged the election.
“I just watched the whole interview with Sidney Powell. It’s sad,” Fratto wrote to Bartiromo on Nov. 21.
Bartiromo responded, “Tony. She is pushing on this. Do you want to have dominion ceo on?”
Fratto did not respond to the offer, but wrote, “She is pushing a lot of things and trime [sic] after time they’re proving to be untrue. WSJ editorial board has it right — again today on Georgia handcount.

Saturday Night Live this weekend began with a parody of the morning news show Fox & Friends as a cold open. The sketch featured Heidi Gardner as Ainsley Earhardt, Mikey Day as Steve Doocy and Bowen Yang as Brian Kilmeade.
The hosts had a laugh about the $1.6 billion lawsuit against Fox News by Dominion Voting Systems over the television network’s unsubstantiated claims of election fraud.
Dominion has submitted numerous texts and emails between Fox News hosts that criticize their own reporting as evidence. The channel has claimed that these conversations were taken out of context.
They also addressed media mogul and Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch, who admitted that the channel promoted election fraud conspiracies that they were aware were false for higher ratings.
They then talked with MyPillow guy Mike Lindell (James Austin Johnson), who is one of the network’s major sponsors and a known conspiracy theorist about the 2020 election.

News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch’s deposition in the Dominion Voting Systems case may have been a “fatal blow” to Fox’s legal position as the $1.6 billion defamation case nears trial, but Fox News’ viewership should stay intact as long as its popular hosts just find other things to talk about, lawyers and crisis PR experts told TheWrap.
Fox News’ alleged journalistic misdeeds in covering the 2020 election might seem like a broken record at this point, but its loyal fans are the ones skipping the drama. The channel topped cable news ratings again in February, growing viewership by 7% over January. So how does the channel keep its position after Murdoch’s astounding revelation that business considerations motivated putting election misinformation on the air? The formula is simple: back to the newsroom, but with caution and a lot of damage control.

“Saturday Night Live” focused on Dominion Voting Systems’ ongoing defamation lawsuit against Fox News for the cold open this week, and unfortunately, the fake “Fox & Friends” hosts couldn’t keep their lawsuit details straight. As a result, Heidi Gardner’s Ainsley Earhardt mistook Fox CEO Rupert Murdoch for convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh.
To kick off the episode, Mikey Day, Gardner and Bowen Yang returned as Fox News hosts Steve Doocy, Ainsley Earhardt and Brian Kilmeade, respectively, first complaining about being in New York, a Democrat-run city. But things quickly turned to the ongoing suit against the network, with the hosts acknowledging recent testimony from Fox CEO Rupert Murdoch, admitting that some Fox News hosts knowingly touted election lies on-air.

Donald Trump went on the attack against Fox Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch following the latest revelations from Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation lawsuit against the media company.
“Why is Rupert Murdoch throwing his anchors under the table, which also happens to be killing his case and infuriating his viewers, who will again be leaving in droves – they already are,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, before making further unfounded and false claims that the 2020 presidential election was rigged.
In their latest filing made public on Monday, Dominion attorneys focused on Murdoch’s role in the aftermath of the election. According to the filing, Murdoch said in a recent deposition that some Fox News hosts “endorsed” Trump’s election claims. Murdoch found those claims to be “bulls— and damaging,” and in his deposition, he acknowledged that he “would have liked us to be stronger in denouncing” the election fraud allegations.

After Dominion Voting revealed on Thursday that some top Fox News network executives and hosts were privately appalled by the network booking guests touting baseless election-fraud theories after the 2020 election, “The View” host Sunny Hostin thinks Dominion has a good chance of winning their defamation case.
In a court filing, Dominion Voting provided texts, emails and other forms of communication between Fox News hosts, in which they called out some of the network’s recent guests for perpetuating unsupported claims that the 2020 election was electronically rigged against twice-impeached former President Donald Trump.
During “The View” on Friday, Hostin noted that cases like these –specifically, against major media corporations — are often lost, because the right to free speech is so wide sweeping. But, she said, the words of these hosts might be the nail in the coffin.

Nominations for the 43rd Annual Razzie Awards are in, and they have singled out “Blonde,” Disney’s “Pinocchio,” Machine Gun Kelly’s “Good Mourning” and “Morbius” among 2022’s worst movies.
“Just when you thought it would be safe to return to the movies,” the video announcement warns, before unveiling the nominees for the Golden Raspberry Awards (aka the Razzies) — the winners of which will be revealed on Oscar eve, Saturday, March 11.
Ana de Armas’ “Blonde,” which the Razzies say explores “the exploitation of Marilyn Monroe…by continuing to exploit her posthumously,” led with a whopping eight nominations, including Worst Picture, Andrew Dominik as Worst Director and for Worst Screenplay, and Worse Remake/Rip-Off/Sequel, among others. The film was also recognized for Worst Screen Couple with two nominations, which the Razzies graciously identify as “Andrew Dominik and His Issues with Women” and “Both Real Life Characters in the Fallacious White House Bedroom Scene.

Murdoch is the latest high profile Fox figure to face questioning under oath in the discovery phase of the case, with CEO Lachlan Murdoch and Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott also having been deposed along with on-air figures including Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Maria Bartiromo.
Murdoch is being questioned in Los Angeles on the Fox lot, according to NPR. A deposition scheduled for last month was delayed.
This week, Dominion and Fox News each filed for motions for summary judgment in the case, asking a Delaware judge to issue a ruling in their favor in advance of the trial, scheduled to begin in April. Those motions are still under seal.

Fox Corp. CEO Lachlan Murdoch filed suit against Australian news site Crikey on Tuesday over an opinion column that connected the Murdochs to the siege of the U.S. Capitol on January 6th.
The statement of claim was filed in Federal Court of Australia.
After receiving legal threats from Murdoch’s attorney, Crikey challenged him to file the suit and test of Australia’s “too restrictive” defamation laws. Crikey ran a full-page ad in The New York Times on Monday, as Eric Beercher, the chairman of its parent company, Private Media, said that it was “looking forward to meeting Lachlan Murdoch in court, as he has foreshadowed, to test the defamation laws he and his editors constantly complain about.”
At issue is a June 29 analysis piece on the January 6th Committee hearings with the headline, “Trump is a confirmed unhinged traitor. And Murdoch is his unidentified co-conspirator.”

I remember how perfectly John Williams’ lush score for 1993’s Jurassic Park set the stage for what was to follow. That film was imaginative, funny, scary, and filled with interesting doings. Since then, every sequel has paled in comparison, lifting bits and pieces of the memorable theme and elements from the first film. What filled in the large gaps were just…more. More dinosaurs. More chases. More corporate stupidity. What was a noble, yet misguided plan was undermined by corporate greed, a theme that was exhausted by the time Wayne Knight was devoured.
The Jurassic World reboot with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard was entertaining enough and the CGI improved so we could see more nuance among the species that were now becoming a global ecological threat. Add in some genetic shenanigans with the arrival of Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon), you have some new tones to play with.
