Robert grew up and attended high school at Subic Bay Naval Base in the Philippine Islands which, at the time, was the largest U.S. military base in the world. During his time at Subic Bay, he was fortunate to regularly watch the Navy Special Warfare Command's SEAL Team One and Marine Force Recon teams train and refine their combat tactics. Following high school, Robert graduated from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. with a focus on foreign affairs and a strong interest in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency and later completed his graduate degree at New York University with a concentration in corporate finance and competitive strategy.
His experience in the Philippines as well as his education helped fuel Robert's interests in creating intense action films that cast a light on the inherent complexities (political, cultural, military, and personal) within some of the world's lesser-known conflicts. In addition to choreographing incredible action scenes, Robert 's films are characterized by fast pacing and strong story elements.
