For many entertainers, adding an Oscar to their belt of achievements is a pretty cool thing. But to Jamie Lee Curtis, it just gives her more reason to expand her creative endeavors.
For one, she returned to TV in “The Bear” and the entire thing played out on a haunch. Imagine watching TV and immediately vibing with this character, who has been mentioned but hasn’t been introduced yet.
In Curtis’ case, she didn’t only vibe with the character, she ended up playing her. And oh, for the “Freaky Friday” fans, the movie is returning, with Curtis and Lindsay Lohan set to return. Talk about major career moves.

The cast of FX/Hulu's hit restaurant drama/stress simulator "The Bear" won't just be saying "Yes, chef!" to Ayo Edebiri in season 3 — they'll be saying "Yes, director!" Amid news (via Deadline and Variety) that "The Bear" has been quietly renewed for season 4, which will film back-to-back with the previously-announced season 3, we've also learned (via Vogue) that Edebiri will be making her directorial debut with a season 3 episode set to shoot this spring.
"The first time I met ['The Bear' creator Chris Storer], I was 21, and he was like, 'You're a director.' I was like, 'Mind your business, bro,'" recalled Edebiri, who plays head chef Sydney Adamu in the series. After Storer invited her to come to set every day during the filming of "The Bear" season 2 and she saw whole episodes being put together, she realized, "Oh, okay. Yeah. I think I want to do this.

Rachel Zegler and the cast of A24’s Y2K had a blast describing a favorite scene where a group of fleeing high school students slide, tumble and bump down a hill inside an overflowing porta potty
“So, like, the big sh*t — let’s just nip it in the bud — the big sh*t was hot chocolate mix with glycerin, so it smelled amazing. And it was really confusing to shoot that,” said the star of the Kyle Mooney disaster comedy that premiered at SXSW tonight.
The Porta Potty “was on its side, on shocks. Yeah, it was actually bouncing up and down,” Zegler said. “And you can see lovely [co-star] Jaeden Martell here was covering my ear because I kept talking about how I didn’t want water in my ears. The Bear‘s third season seems to be underway as series star Ayo Edebiri took to social media to tease her arrival in Chicago, where the series is shot. “Lord…. Back in Chicago,” she wrote over the photo of a mural depicting Jesus shooting basketball hoops, posted to her Instagram story. The Emmy-winning actress, writer, and comedian who features as Sydney in Chris Storer‘s acclaimed FX series for Hulu is returning alongside lead Jeremy Allen White and the ensemble for the latest chapter. (Credit: Ayo Edebiri via Instagram) While Edebiri’s social media tease isn’t exactly a confirmation about filming, it aligns with a casting call from 4 Star Casting, which is searching for extras to feature in Season 3 with filming dates set between February 26 and March 1. The extras in question are for newborns between zero and six months old. Could they play Natalie’s (Abby Elliott) baby? Carmy...

Steve “Major” Giammaria has enjoyed a long and busy career as a sound re-recording mixer and editor on film and TV projects. But the man who was randomly given the nickname “Major” to distinguish him from the manager at his company (also named Steve) has never worked on a project like “The Bear,” the FX on Hulu hit that broke from the gate as a buzzworthy surprise in June 2022 and only enhanced its considerable artistic credentials with the arrival of its 10-episode second season last month to even greater acclaim. Molly Gordon on Making Directorial Debut ‘Theater Camp’ and Reuniting With Ayo Edebiri on ‘The Bear’
This interview was conducted before SAG-AFTRA authorized a strike on July 13.
In 2019, Molly Gordon worked for three days on Ramy, the Hulu show about a man exploring his faith in New York City, and it changed her life. She was 23, in the nascent stages of a career she had been dreaming about since childhood. That year, she had roles in Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart and Gene Stupnitsky’s Good Boys, but her time on set with creator Ramy Youssef and executive producer Chris Storer served as what she describes as a “turning point” creatively.
This summer, she marked another professional milestone with the July 14 release of Theater Camp, her screenwriting and directorial debut, which she had been working on for years with longtime friends Ben Platt, Noah Galvin and Nick Lieberman. Gordon also stars in the mockumentary-style comedy about an eccentric group of artists working to save their summer camp for kids from financial ruin.

Jeremy Allen White just scored his first Emmy nomination for playing chef Carmy Berzatto on FX’s The Bear, but most Chicagoans still recognize him as heartbreaker Lip Gallagher from Shameless.

It’s pretty wild,” he said, reflecting on his breakout role. “I’ve been on TV for a really long time, which is a crazy thing to say. Sometimes it doesn’t feel that way…I feel like there were a lot of really wonderful performances on Shameless that weren’t recognized, and I feel so lucky to be on a show now that connects with people in this way.”
He isn’t sure what, exactly, clicked with The Bear to prompt its meteoric rise to critical and audience acclaim, but...

The Emmys served up 13 nominations on a silver platter for FX’s The Bear Wednesday morning. Among them was a nod for Ebon Moss-Bachrach in the Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category for his turn as Carmy’s (Jeremy Allen White) cousin Richie Jeremovich.
Like many nominees, Moss-Bachrach was alerted to his nomination when he was inundated with messages of congratulations from friends, co-stars, and others. In fact, the actor told Deadline he was “going for a nice evening swim with my beautiful wife” on vacation when he heard the news.
This marks Moss-Bachrach’s first Emmy nomination, though he says that the accolade feels more like a group effort, shouting out creator Chris Storer, fellow acting nominees Ayo Edebiri and Jeremy Allen White, as well as casting director Jeanie Bacharach and sound mixing team Steve Giammaria and Scott D. Smith.
“I’m so excited that it’s a group recognition.

Better Call Saul‘s Bob Odenkirk found himself “giddy” and “very proud” on Wednesday morning, as his lauded Breaking Bad prequel landed its final set of seven Emmy nominations, including one for his lead turn, speaking with Deadline about what his character Slippin’ Jimmy McGill might be up to post-finale, his memorable recent guest appearance on FX’s The Bear, his new AMC show Lucky Hank and more.
Noting that it was co-star Rhea Seehorn’s nom alongside him that made the morning “complete,” not to mention recognition for the show’s writers, Odenkirk shared that as the time since Saul‘s finale stretches out, he sees the opportunity he had with the series as even “bigger” than he did at the beginning, “which is to say it seems like the role of a lifetime, for real.

Being a television personality is a lot different than playing a television character. For someone like cooking TV personality Matty Matheson, the latter can be terrifying.
“Acting scares the shit out of me,” said Matheson, actor and executive producer on FX’s acclaimed restaurant dramedy series “The Bear.” On the show, Matheson plays Neil Fak, better known simply as Fak, the childhood friend of Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) and Carmy’s cousin Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). Fak is sensitive and sweet and sometimes spacey, but does his best in both seasons to keep first the Beef and then the Bear running as a handyman and server.
But even before joining “The Bear” in 2021, Matheson always had several irons in the culinary fire, running restaurants like Cà Phê Rang, Prime Seafood Palace, Rizzo’s House of Parm and Fonda Balam, all under the umbrella of his hospitality company Our House. He’s...

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from Season 2 of FX’s The Bear.
In the Season 2 finale of FX’s The Bear, Jeremy Allen White’s Carmy gets locked in the walk-in fridge during friends and family night at his new restaurant.
He’d just issued a loaded apology to Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) for losing his temper, promising that he has things under control. But as the fridge door swooshes closed, they all realize that isn’t true.
It’s the last straw in a tumultuous evening, but somehow, the kitchen staff still makes magic. Maybe that’s because they were already learning how to survive without their executive chef, who had been a little absent as they tried to transform The Original Beef of Chicagoland into an upscale eatery in just 12 weeks. Whatever the reason, it doesn’t ease Carmy’s nerves. In fact, he promptly breaks down.

“The Bear” became an overnight sensation when its first season debuted in 2022 because of its visceral honesty about how it looks and feels to work in a restaurant. Much of the credit for that belongs to Courtney Storer.
Storer, sister of series creator Chris Storer, has worked in high-profile kitchens from Verjus in Paris to Jon & Vinny’s in L.A., but her most recent job has been to serve as “The Bear’s” culinary producer, getting the writers, cast and crew acclimated to the world the series takes place in.
“In Season 1, it was it was a lot of storytelling with the writers, but also providing my journals and different training guides to give insight into the ethos of restaurants,” Storer says. “It’s bigger than the conflicts: It’s the decision-making, the structure, the procedures, the recipes.”

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Season 2 of “The Bear,” now streaming on Hulu.
In Season 2 of “The Bear,” Jeremy Allen White’s Carmen Berzatto finally let his walls down and explored interests outside the kitchen. It didn’t work out well for him — but he did try. Carmy also had to balance his friendship and working relationship with partner Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), who kept her eye on the prize when he seemingly became distracted.
Throughout the second season, viewers also learned more about Carmy’s upbringing, specifically in the star-studded sixth episode, “Fishes.” That episode was a flashback to the family’s last Christmas together, with Jamie Lee Curtis appearing as his troubled mother, and Jon Bernthal returning as his brother, Michael, on the verge of a breakdown.
Here, White opens up to Variety about Season 2’s arcs, Carmy and his mother’s relationship and his hopes for the chef down the line,...

Ray Richmond: ‘The Bear’ is suddenly everyone’s Emmy darling – but is that for Season 1 or Season 2?
This Overview Contains Plot Point Spoilers For Season 2 Of “The Bear”
Wherever I roamed on social media over the past week, I saw it.
“‘The Bear’ – Omg! I just can’t…”
“Did you see ‘The Bear’ Episode 6? I’m destroyed. So devastating and So good. I’m in pieces.”
“I’m not sure this isn’t the best show Ever.”
What they were talking about, of course, was Season 2 of “The Bear,” the FX on Hulu series that dropped on June 22, 2023 rather than Season 1 that launched on June 23, 2022. But it is of course the first season that no one is talking about any longer that qualified for this year’s Emmys. The question is: is that a problem or a benefit? And the answer is: almost assuredly a boon.
If “The Bear” had been canceled after its first season – something that is simply unthinkable now – the fact the show premiered...

Though production on Season 2 of “The Bear” was well underway before Ramy Youssef traveled to Copenhagen to direct the fourth episode, series creator Chris Storer was slow to bring him fully behind the curtain.
“He didn’t let me watch anything they had shot [in the first three episodes]. He was like, ‘No, no. You can see it when you come back, but just make this what you think it should be,'” Youssef remembers.
Youssef is the first and only person to serve as a director on “The Bear” besides Storer and his co-showrunner Joanna Calo. When a tight production timeline made it impossible for Storer or Calo to direct in Copenhagen on top of nine Chicago-set episodes, Youssef was Storer’s first choice. Season 2 of “The Bear” included a plethora of incredible guest stars. That began in episode 4, “Honeydew,” with Will Poulter starring as Luca, a top Copenhagen chef who trains Marcus (Lionel Boyce) in the kitchen as the pair create a trusting friendship.
Poulter felt a connection to the FX series early on, as he’d been dreaming about making a show about chefs.
“I called them. I literally begged to be in the show. I asked if I could meet with Chris Storer and basically communicated that I was such a fan of so much of his work, but especially ‘The Bear,'” Poulter tells Variety. “He was kind enough to gift me with the offer to play Luca and it really changed my life, to be honest. Chris Zucchero, owner of Chicago’s beloved Italian sandwich shop Mr. Beef, is on the “L” trying to get a word in on the phone. He just wrapped up a long two days of catering parties for FX’s “The Bear” Season 2, providing hot Italian beef sandwiches with sweet peppers and spicy giardiniera for Hollywood’s finest.
“The Bear” creator Christopher Storer — who Zucchero has been friends with since kindergarten — based “The Bear” on the classic establishment and shot about 90% of the pilot in Mr. Beef. Storer even cast Zucchero in the pilot as the guy in the parking lot who deals meat to Jeremy Allen White’s character Carmy.
Still, Zucchero hasn’t watched a single episode of “The Bear,” and probably won’t ever. It’s not for lack of interest or support — he just can’t afford to lose sight of the restaurant that’s been feeding Chicago for six decades,...

[This story contains spoilers from season two, episode four of The Bear, “Honeydew.”]
In season two of The Bear, Lionel Boyce’s Marcus goes on a journey.
It’s both external and internal, as bottle episode “Honeydew” sees Marcus reluctantly leave his ailing, nonverbal mother and travel beyond the borders of Chicago for the first time to stage in Copenhagen under a chef named Luca (Will Poulter). He’s there to create three dishes for The Bear’s dessert menu. But the experience — like those of his fellow staff at The Beef — delivers on more than just a meal.
Marcus’ intense experiences in and out of the kitchen “ignite” the rest of his season two journey, Boyce tells The Hollywood Reporter, and help him to understand arguably his biggest lesson so far: That “you make with heart, not with skill.” It’s an emotional episode, directed by Ramy Youssef, that underscores The Bear’s return not as the fast-paced, anxiety-inducing...

“My God, we are a breath of fresh, fabulous air,” declared Abbott Elementary’s Sheryl Lee Ralph as she looked around the table at Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), Elle Fanning (The Great), Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face) and Devery Jacobs (Reservation Dogs) — all gathered on a late April morning for THR’s annual Comedy Actress Emmy Roundtable. Over the course of an hour, their conversation ranged from fighting stereotypes and finding agency to dismissing gross notes and having a little fun.
When fans approach you, what do they typically recognize you from and what do they say?

Before patrons of The Original Beef of Chicagoland ever get their delicious sandwiches from chef Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) on FX’s The Bear, they have to go through manager Richie Jerimovich—an irritable clodhopper who’s both aggravating and engaging all at the same time. He’s played with affection and reverence by Ebon Moss-Bachrach, the blue-eyed breakout best known for his stints on Girls (as Marnie’s husband Desi) and The Punisher. Here, Moss-Bachrach talks about making it big on the comedy series from executive producer Christopher Storer (Ramy).

Yes, chef! After debuting to rave reviews — and even thirstier fans — in June, The Bear is poised to return this year for another season of culinary chaos. The Bear Season 1 finale saw Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) receive a sudden windfall, alleviating some of the stress of running The Original Beef of Chicagoland in the wake of his brother’s death. With this influx of cash, Carmy and sous chef Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) set out to transform the restaurant into something new, a storyline that promises to test the limits of their partnership in exciting ways.
